Apparently, the ad below has caused Republicans to triple their usual order for fainting couches. Kelly Fenton, deputy chair of the Minnesota Republican Party, tweeted yesterday that Satan must now be serving as Obama’s campaign adviser. The always reliable Erick Erickson of RedState.com preached that it’s evidence “we live in a fallen world destined for hellfire.”
That noted defender of American womanhood and feminine virtue, Rush Limbaugh, even denounced the ad as “an insult to women everywhere.” There is no truth to the rumor that he and his pals then boarded a plane bound for the Dominican Republic, copious supplies of Viagra in their baggage. Or maybe there is, I wouldn’t want to speculate.
Anyway, here’s the ad:
The ad won’t appear on mainstream TV, and probably not on TV anywhere at all. It is designed to be shared, on Facebook and elsewhere, by those for whom it is a target audience and who, given the comments of leading Republicans such as Richard Mourdock of Indiana and Todd Akin of Missouri, might have a lot at stake in this election. It was posted on Youtube yesterday, and already has more than a million views.
As for those outraged by the decline of today’s young people well, we’ve been down this road many many times before, now haven’t we?
————–
“Edgar! Edgar! Get in here and see what’s happening on the Sullivan show! It’s that Presley boy and he’s … ohmygoodness! … Did you see what he did with his … his hips? They let them do that on the television? My gracious! Did you see that Edgar!”
“It’s shocking, Maude, I do declare this country is destined for ….”
“Hush Edgar!! Hush! Get away from the TV, you old man, I think he’s gonna do it again!!

“Dear Danny, would it not be more honest to acknowledge that leftists prevented conservatism from being implemented from Jan 3. 2007 until today?”
That depends on what you mean by “conservatism”.
Conservatism? Like the socialist Medicare drug program? Maybe its two wars that cost a trillion dollars being put on a credit card? Is it the massive tax cuts coupled with massive new spending? Is it NCLB?
Please explain.

Dear getalife @ 12:55, the “collapse” arose from leftist policies (blocking the Bush effort to rein in FNMA and FHLMC, passing the bankrtuptcy reform act that gave judges the power to devalue a mortgage, raising the minimum wage.)
Rather than learning from the causes of the collapse, the current occupant of the oval office added new costs for employers (ObamaCare) to make it less economic to hire; he added new waves of roving bureaucrats to prevent people from making their own choices (Dodd-Frank); and he coverted a massive amount taxpayer funds into booty transferred to his donors (”the stimulus.”) Whether he is a kleptocrat or merely incompetent, your choice is not my choice.

Ragnar, I did not give a value judgment regarding Thomas Jefferson’s unwavering support of the French Revolution, to the displeasure of some of his fellow patriots. I simply stated his view as a fact of history. Jefferson had his own reasons for thinking as he did, which were not shallowly drawn, I am certain. One would have to study Jefferson’s mind and thought processes without undue judgment to understand from where he came. His fellow patriots, inclulding John Adams I believe, were aghast at Jefferson’s unwavering support of the French Revolution, especially when the reports of its atrocies travelled across the Atlantic to America.
I believe Jefferson said something about the fact that he would support the death of all human life but for two people if those remaining two people were the only two on Earth who proclaimed, and contained, true liberty. Jefferson wasn’t playing around!
And, his intensity of passion for individual liberty for egalitarianism of all humankind is the North Star of American thought to this day – which the world, itself, will one day embrace because people throughout the world admire and identify with those two American values, above all others – individual liberty and the proclamation that all are inherently equal.
Engraved high upon his Memorial in Washington, D.C. are these words of Jefferson’s:
———————————————————-
“I have sworn upon the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.”
———————————————————–
Which, in a way, brings us back to the Lena Dunham video, does it not?

“he added new waves of roving bureaucrats to prevent people from making their own choices (Dodd-Frank); ”
Actually, those “people” included the bond raters who falsely graded those bundled junk mortgages which encouraged investment in them and ultimately brought Wall St. to its knees. I’d say those “people” need a little more scrutiny to keep them from doing it again. It was the repeal of regulations taking place in Republican controlled congresses from the late 90’s until ‘06 that encouraged so much wild investment without anyone considering the risk.
As to the stimulus for friends, Bush started that with his own bailout. You surely remember that one, right?

Now that I can definitely agree with! Too many times Greenspan knew the warning signs and chose to ignore them. I read once that a lot of what motivated him was the fear of major recession post 9/11 and the desire to keep those behind the attacks from getting what they ultimately wanted-the collapse of western economies. They got it, just not as soon as they hoped.

His motives were not that noble.
Greenspan and all his little Randriod asshats believed they could produce mathematical models that could predict and game the market.
The near collapse and bailout of hedge fund LTCM in 98 (it was classified, “too big to fail”) vindicated Born’s assessment as it was a leader in mathematical model trading.

Diversion from the real issues, which they have no substantive solutions to address. It’s easier to get the far-right fired up with social issues, and they need those votes to win this election. It also means less time focusing on the vague plans and poor mathematics of what’s been expressed so far.

For the most part I am happy with my life, and I think that most people don’t understand that kind of wealth can be a huge Old Man and the Sea kind of burden. I wouldn’t want to live my life constantly looking over my shoulder or worried that me or a family member could be subject to nefarious schemes. What galls me is the subjugation of the middle class to “the market” when it comes to savings and retirement.
Used to be, a savings account at the local bank or s&l was part of a comprehensive long term plan. Now, one has to go to “the marketplace” and pay the parasites their percentage whether they make you money or lose it.

“Still, I contend that the best way to respond to nonsense is to ignore it and focus on things that matter.”
Honestly, Dr. R, I think that was happening until Mr. Akin and Mr. Mourdoch and a few others kept bringing it up. The issue is always there on the periphery and pretty much ignored in mainstream discussions in normal election years. Unfortunately, when you have senate candidates and even a presidential hopeful talking about personhood amendments, it’s hard to ignore and becomes a very substantive issue. Think about Mississippi. They chose in a very partisan, hotly contested election year to play to their far-right base with a personhood amendment ballot. That moved the issue front and center and drew out some of the nuts that have kept it there. It’s hard not to stoop when the issues keep coming up and potentially affecting the outcome of an election when such a large group (women) are at the center of the debate.

Which is yet another reason why I oppose privatizing social security and turning medicare into voucher programs. I ended up taking the penalty and closing out my 403b a few years back. In the long run, it made sense to go ahead and take the money out and pay off debt that the recession and furlough days ran up so I could adjust down my lifestyle. I was paying way more in interest on debt and fees for account management than I would have made in twenty years of leaving the money where it was. Jay why are you deflecting peoples attention away from Obama’s lies and ineptness? Benghazi, Romney’s position on the GM bailout, tax break for shipping jobs over seas? Obama doesn’t even know that his military still use bayonets!

DDR: Right ON Matti!! Power To The Women!
The reason we don’t already run the world is that millennia of religious and societal doctrine have instilled in too many of us a sense of guilt for using our power for our own good, and imparted instead a sense of shame and self-loathing for having the power in the first place. Much like the perpetual hopelessness prevalent in some neighborhoods, women often tear each other down rather than watch a sister succeed. The reality is that a man’s strength IS his weakness. Our failure to exploit it daily is the hallmark of character, but they show little appreciation for our restraint. Go figure.

They were too busy trying not to get eaten by the dinosaurs.

Should Obama get reelected will he do the honorable thing and resign once it’s proven unfortunately post election that he was behind the stand down order and subsequent cover up of the Benghazi tragedy and lying that he was unaware of all the previous requests for additional security.

Bush didn’t do the honorable thing and resign after it was proven the smoking gun wasn’t the mushroom cloud.

Okay, just as the abortion issue isn’t settled, neither is evolution or the age of the earth. The latest theory about what the universe is? A holograph. Well guess what? It takes an observer to see a stinking holograph and that means that the universe can’t exist unless we are there to see it, thus, the universe is as old as man is, and the scary fact is that man was created in the same instant as the universe, otherwise the math doesn’t work at all. So don’t make fun of creationists. It’s just possible the bible is the end game of quantum theory. and, and….Aww, it’s just no use, readers are seeing right through this lame attempt to cover up my fears about the you..know…what……the new F bomb……F.R.A.N.K.E.N.S.T.O.R.M.
You know when I first heard about this new unprecedented hurricane type – the frankenstorm- I thought it was just some creative mad men trying to sell more soap on the weather channel. Boy was I wrong. Just take a look at this big bad boy. I’ve seen perfect storms and I’ve seen mega storms, but nothing like this. It’s so big it blocks out half the sky. It’s churning up the sea and eroding the beaches from CSI Miami to Jersey Shore. and…and……….sorry,….I don’t trust Frankenstorm…..I don’t think atlanta is far enough inland, I’m driving to St Louis……out.

THIS is the ad that people got their panties in a bunch over????
Really????
Seriously??????
This version has to be edited. You would think that the woman from the movie “Deepthroat” came back and made a campaign version of her movie the way people have been chattering about this. There’s far worse crap spoken on prime time network tv nowadays. This is effin’ pathetic…

Used to be, a savings account at the local bank or s&l was part of a comprehensive long term plan. Now, one has to go to “the marketplace” and pay the parasites their percentage whether they make you money or lose it.
And the sheep continue to celebrate their herding towards the slaughterhouse today. Damn shame it is…
