The Lena Dunham ad that filled countless fainting couches
Apparently, the ad below has caused Republicans to triple their usual order for fainting couches. Kelly Fenton, deputy chair of the Minnesota Republican Party, tweeted yesterday that Satan must now be serving as Obama’s campaign adviser. The always reliable Erick Erickson of RedState.com preached that it’s evidence “we live in a fallen world destined for hellfire.”
That noted defender of American womanhood and feminine virtue, Rush Limbaugh, even denounced the ad as “an insult to women everywhere.” There is no truth to the rumor that he and his pals then boarded a plane bound for the Dominican Republic, copious supplies of Viagra in their baggage. Or maybe there is, I wouldn’t want to speculate.
Anyway, here’s the ad:
The ad won’t appear on mainstream TV, and probably not on TV anywhere at all. It is designed to be shared, on Facebook and elsewhere, by those for whom it is a target audience and who, given the comments of leading Republicans such as Richard Mourdock of Indiana and Todd Akin of Missouri, might have a lot at stake in this election. It was posted on Youtube yesterday, and already has more than a million views.
As for those outraged by the decline of today’s young people well, we’ve been down this road many many times before, now haven’t we?

TM: are you a military expert? If so, tell me how you would handle it when the general in charge of regional forces couldn’t even understand what was going on. Nobody had any idea it was coming or who was involved until after it was over. 4-6 hours seems like a lot of time, but it’s not when you’re trying to figure out a military response. Those things take planning and intel. If we’d known an attack was possible, then maybe we could have responded faster. To me, this is clearly a case of either the intel not existing or the CIA not taking it seriously. Either way, it cost us.

Let’s say you are CIC and you get that call. We’ll even say that it did not take some time to move up the chain and that CIC is sitting at the desk. So now the call comes in… “Attack underway in Benghazi and our ambassador is there, what do we do Mr. President?” Nope. There are likely questions about who is present, how many defending, what kind of attack…. then what assets are in the area and what is there exact ready status…..and no one asks how to we make sure those we send in get out. And all of this assumes precise real time information without the “fog of war” and conflicting reports.
Mitt would of course say “what do my generals say”?

TM: this ain’t a Clint Eastwood or John Wayne movie, and you don’t go in shooting anyone who looks like the enemy. It’s not like they have black hats on so we’ll know ‘em from the good guys. Remember some of the security there was locals, so what happens if we end up killing them too? I’m sure the Libyans would have been really happy with us for that. This was a cluster-f*ck for sure, and the advantage was for the attackers. They managed to keep this secret right up to the moment the attack began if we’re to believe noone in the CIA had any idea.

What is the flight plan, time over the engagement area, escape route, protection from rocket and other attacks? And how much time will you need to get all the answers? It’s been a month now so surely in your rant you have confirmed all this was clearly available in a timely manner before you posted something like “we have military assets…”

Again ………….my reference yesterday to Jay’s having (or not having any daughters) was that if he did ………. I would hope it would cause him to feel differently about the “poor soul” (some father’s daughter) in that ad.
