The Lena Dunham ad that filled countless fainting couches

fainting_couch-300x204

Apparently, the ad below has caused Republicans to triple their usual order for fainting couches. Kelly Fenton, deputy chair of the Minnesota Republican Party, tweeted yesterday that Satan must now be serving as Obama’s campaign adviser. The always reliable Erick Erickson of RedState.com preached that it’s evidence “we live in a fallen world destined for hellfire.”

That noted defender of American womanhood and feminine virtue, Rush Limbaugh, even denounced the ad as “an insult to women everywhere.” There is no truth to the rumor that he and his pals then boarded a plane bound for the Dominican Republic, copious supplies of Viagra in their baggage. Or maybe there is, I wouldn’t want to speculate.

Anyway, here’s the ad:

The ad won’t appear on mainstream TV, and probably not on TV anywhere at all. It is designed to be shared, on Facebook and elsewhere, by those for whom it is a target audience and who, given the comments of leading Republicans such as Richard Mourdock of Indiana and Todd Akin of Missouri, might have a lot at stake in this election. It was posted on Youtube yesterday, and already has more than a million views.

As for those outraged by the decline of today’s young people well, we’ve been down this road many many times before, now haven’t we?

————–

“Edgar! Edgar! Get in here and see what’s happening on the Sullivan show! It’s that Presley boy and he’s … ohmygoodness! … Did you see what he did with his … his hips? They let them do that on the television? My gracious! Did you see that Edgar!”

“It’s shocking, Maude, I do declare this country is destined for ….”

“Hush Edgar!! Hush! Get away from the TV, you old man, I think he’s gonna do it again!!

Yes, there is a contradiction. Conservatives will go all out to protect Reagan just as they are trying to go all out and blame Obama. Yet, in both situations, there is no concrete evidence that either one had anything to do with the incidents at all. The cover up for the Contra incident was completely comical while the cover up for Benghazi is still underway.

You don’t see a contradiction because of your view point, whereas I see a distinct contradiction because of your view point. If both situations are as you say they are, there would be no need for Conservatives to be out for blood because they should already know how these things end up. Right?

Fred,

I don’t remember where the ship ramming occurred although I think as u said it was in Intl waters which is worse. At least the Chinese can say it was in disputed territory and that one of their pilots died. In any event whether it be a r or d president they listen to their advisers and have the basic common sense to not start a war over a shadowing incident.

Bro,

You’re missing my point. Libs constantly argue that Reagan knew what was going on when the evidence showed he did not. He still deserves criticism because it’s his administration and he should have had a better handle on things.

i’m not saying Obama did anything illegal. My belief is that he did not. Our problem is that his administration misled and even lied to the public for 2 Weeks about the consulate incident. I don’t fault him for not being able to stop it. That would just be as lot of Monday morning quarter backing. I just fault him for trying to give us some BS story for 2 Weeks about what really happened. Blaming it all on a video? Puh leeze!

Problem with the whole Benghazi thing is this: the information didn’t flow very well, wasn’t evidently handled well as it went up the chain, and seems to me a case of everyone involved trying to play CYA and figure out how to spin this before they ever let the information get to the WH. I read the timeline, at this link: http://news.yahoo.com/benghazi-timeline-211650095–politics.html

What strikes me is as Panetta is telling the committees about it being an organized attack, he’s not telling those above him in the food chain. I think the CIA got caught with their pants down on this and didn’t want any more information getting out until they could analyze and make sure they could squeak out of the blame game. Panetta seems culpable too for not sharing intel with the WH first, but time will tell. Read the timeline and try to objectively tell me what you think. Seems to me Obama and Clinton were trying to be consistent on message until somebody got them some facts they could share, and that seems to have taken longer than it could have if Panetta and the CIA had been more forthright about the intel they had coming in.

The democrats are panicking. They now have nothing left but spewing infantile lies and they are hoping that Americans aren’t intelligent enough to see through them. If the left had a candidate that had actually done something that would have improved our situation as a nation instead of accelerating our demise and putting us in a fiscal hole we can never recover from they wouldn’t have to stoop to such low levels. And the race wouldn’t even be close. But alas, they don’t. And thus, you have them putting out ad’s by some young actress equivocating her first vote for Obama with her losing her virginity. That is really sad. And oh, Ohio is now in play for Romney. His numbers continue to rise and Obama numbers sink, and sink and sink.

Three new polls of likely voters in Ohio released on Friday, for example, all give Obama edges ranging from 2 to 4 percentage points, bringing the total of new polls over the past week to give Obama a slight numerical edge in the state to six of seven. Again, considered in isolation, any one of these surveys would not indicate a statistically significant lead. But when combined by the Pollster tracking model, they give Obama a lead of roughly 2.5 percentage points in Ohio that the model considers statistically meaningful.

If your boss tells you that the company you work for is not stable enough to survive an election, then the company you work for is not stable enough to survive stress of any kind. Successful CEOs say, “Come what may, this organization is prepared to adapt and pursue growth and profit.” The CEOs that tell you otherwise are not particularly good at their jobs. And the more pressing problem is that the letter you got, urging you to vote in a certain way or you will lose your job, is your canary in a coal mine, telling you that there is some other fatal dysfunction happening at your workplace that’s liable to put you out of work anyway.

No, Ragnar, you err. On both counts.

The Senate’s inability to pass a budget has no bearing on this issue, because a budget does not appropriate a penny. Both chambers have to approve appropriations bills — the same appropriations bill — before money can be spent.

And, the money used for the Volt comes from a totally separate fund from diplomatic security.

The White House did not CHOOSE to use diplomatic security money to buy Volts, because it could not legally do so. Congress appropriates one pot of money for security, and another for transportation. The White House has no authority to move money from one pot to another.

White House refuses to answer a simple question, was there a request for help during the attack and did it CHOOSE to say no?

Well certainly the enemies of the US would love to have this questioned asked and answered with the details of how long does it take to move up the chain, who has the authority to make decisions like this and what factors come into play. Could you be sure to get them all the details so they can use that information in planning.

“,,,was there a request for help during the attack….?”

Fair enough simple question. Okay, you’re sitting in the Oval Office and the call comes in. What are YOU going to do?

“The supreme leader should probably be charged with moral turpitude for this one”

If it isn’t around, maybe we should reenact it. Talk about shrinking the size of government. Half of DC (and I’m being VERY generous) would be thrown out on their arses. Wasn’t Larry Craig in the Senate and the House before that? Interesting that he took part in going after Clinton for his dalliances. Maybe he was just mad because the WH has nicer bathrooms than the airport? Boy if we bring that one back, we got a LOT of hearings to get ready for, if you ask me.

josef and TM: any president that sends in the big guns at a time like that risks a big ol’ international incident that would make the riots in Cairo look like a church social. What the president is best to do is get the State Dept. and the commanders on the ground and figure out what to do. In 4-6 hours, could they have done something? That’s the debate here, but if the ground commanders can’t determine what to send in, do we really want the civilian commander-in-chief barking military orders?

So, bomb the consulate? Sounds like a good idea to me…don’t know what the folks inside might have to say, but what the hell…picky, picky, picky…remember you stipulated WHILE the attack was going on…
