Playing music for the joy of it? What a radical thought!

Good musicians — good young musicians — are making fine music these days, even if it’s sometimes hard to get noticed in this hyper-fragmented media world. You may have heard a song or two from tonight’s group, the Lumineers, out of Colorado, (this one has become an ad soundtrack) but they’re consistently good, and they play because they just love the music.

Just watch. It’s infectious.

there always is. There always will be.

Long time ago, I debated with myself which single year I’d pick, if I could only pick music from year to take with me on that Desert Island to listen to. And I came to realize, it’d have to be this year. Because you can never catch up to it in real time–it always takes a while to absorb just how great this or that band/artist really was, doesn’t it?

I agree. I have friends that listen to nothing but “classic rock” or “oldies” music because they say the music today sucks. While I’ll agree a lot of it does (to me) it will be classic one day.

My satellite radio bill for next year came in the mail yesterday. While scraping up the $200 is kinda painful right now, that’s the place (along with FNM) that I get exposure to new music and artists.

I see you caught the booger fishing, too! Priceless…

As for the languages being related, not so much that linguistically speaking from structure, syntax and grammar so much as from vocabulary. Madoc, Madog ab Owain Gwynedd (Maddox) according to both Welsh and Muscogee and Cherokee tradition sailed to America in the 1100s with several boat loads of colonists. The tradition holds that they were welcomed and mixed with the locals, peacefully. The genetics (DNA) testing going on tends to buttress this. While the skeptics claim that the Welsh strain is a product of the post Columbian, the interesting thing, to me anyway, is that the gene for red hair, common among the Celts, is recessive. Yet, very shortly after the arrival of the “second” wave of Celts in the 17th and 18th Centures, CE, little papooses started popping out their little red-headed selves in numbers worthy of mention…the “new blood” seems to have triggered the recessive and, surprise! Even today the Cherokee are among one of the few groups of people still producing large numbers of red heads…

I’ve been working on this early mixed blood tradition which, should you care to read, the Imam can put us in touch and I’ll share…

For those poor lost Americans who plan on trading their precious souls for a Partison agenda this November——–
.

“Fast forward to 2012 and the country isn’t “divided” as mainstream media talking heads like to say. The country is pissed off. Genuine and legitimate frustration permeates the land from sea to shining sea and rightly so. Ever since the banker coup of 2008, crony capitalism has been institutionalized as the only real way to make money. If you aren’t connected or “too big to fail,” sorry but America isn’t the place for you. What makes the economic nightmare so much worse is that it is being coupled with a complete and total decimation of civil liberties. One by one the Bill of Rights is being ignored and indeed trampled on systemically by the political and economic oligarchs emboldened by their successful takeover of the executive, legislative and for the most part judicial branches of government. Many Independents disagreed with Obama’s economic philosophy but gave him a pass because he promised to end the wars overseas and restore civil liberties. Instead, what we got was a President who signed the NDAA on New Year’s Eve 2011, which included section 1021, allowing for the indefinite detention of American citizens without trial until the “end of hostilities.” Well, because now know the Orwellian “war on terror” is never-ending, the indefinite detention is forever. The worst part is that Obama claims he didn’t want these powers yet when a group of high profile plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against section 1021 and won a ruling deeming it unconstitutional, what was the President’s response? He appealed it to death until he found a panel of judges to agree with him. Not only did he want this power, he seems to crave it. Another well deserved Noble Peace Prize.
.
It’s never too late….Put those souless politicians Romney and Obama behind thee———-

In a few days, it will be necessary for some of us to find — if not a happy place — a “safe” place to retreat. The cruel reality of a life wasted believing in lies, and of a nation and houses divided, turning on each other, spewing the bile that rises up in the farce of what we always believed was our sacred duty. Friends, it could go either way. It behooves us all to prepare, to stockpile the necessities, and to rehearse the evacuation plan so that our heads may escape the screaming of our own throats.

Sorry to crash the party folks, but this came in early this evening and will not see the light of day until maybe early next week, if at all, but I felt like you would want to be informed.

Petraeus Throws Obama Under the Bus

Breaking news on Benghazi: the CIA spokesman, presumably at the direction of CIA director David Petraeus, has put out this statement: “No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. ”

So who in the government did tell “anybody” not to help those in need? Someone decided not to send in military assets to help those Agency operators. Would the secretary of defense make such a decision on his own? No.

It would have been a presidential decision. There was presumably a rationale for such a decision. What was it? When and why—and based on whose counsel obtained in what meetings or conversations—did President Obama decide against sending in military assets to help the Americans in need?

Now we’re talking, Jay. And with the advent of the Internet and the subsequent total control musicians will have over their music and careers, we may get more of this kind of thing.

And speaking of total control, watch how Nina Simone handles her band in a video dating back to 1965. I never got to see her in concert till the advent of YouTube, but this is the best version of “The Ballad of Hollis Brown” I’ve ever heard and my latest favorite song ever.

What would we do without the Internet these days? Among other things, it is rapidly becoming the musician’s and song connoisseur’s best friend.

Opelika AL (AP) – A seven-year-old boy was at the center of a Lee
County Courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over
who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten
by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his Aunt, in
keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family
unity be maintained to the degree possible. The boy
surprised the court when he proclaimed that his Aunt beat him more than
his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the Judge
then suggested that he live with his Grandparents, the boy cried out
that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the
immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a
way of life among them, the Judge took the unprecedented step of
allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two
recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare
officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Auburn
University, whom the boy firmly believes is not capable of beating
anyone

“In the begging, 1790 the Bill of Rights only applied to rich white males, as did the right to vote.
We have come a long way since then.”
=============================================

This nation can quickly move back to the limitations of the 18th century, if citizens do not, first, recognize the surface realities and downright lies being spun to the populace, currently, by those in today’s Republican leadershp for their personal gain, and, then, speak up against what these politicians are saying, as well as vote against the backward direction into which they are taking America. A nation can regress, in terms of its liberties for all Americans, in only one generation if people close their eyes and their voices to the deeper realities of what is happening. One example, among many others: Equal rights for women.
