Source: The Weather Channel
Looking at the predictions regarding Hurricane Sandy, I’m reminded of the horror and awe I felt looking at the satellite pictures of Hurricane Katrina before it reached shore, knowing the damage and destruction it seemed certain to cause.
Only there’s a chance this might be worse:
“We looking at one of the worst storms on record that we’ve seen in this region.”
– Carl Parker, hurricane specialist for The Weather Channel
Brian Norcross of the National Weather Service writes on his Facebook page:
“Isn’t it strange that a hurricane in the Bahamas would somehow turn into a monster mega-storm and slam into the Northeast at the end of October? Aren’t hurricanes supposed to weaken as they move north over cold water? What the hell is going on?
The answers are… yes, yes, and we’re not completely sure. This is a beyond-strange situation. It’s unprecedented and bizarre. Hurricanes almost always bend out to sea in October, although there have been some exceptions when storms went due north, but rarely. No October tropical systems in the record book have turned left into the northeast coast.
The strong evidence we have that a significant, maybe historic, storm is going to hit the east coast is that EVERY reliable computer forecast model now says it’s going to happen. The only way we can forecast the weather four or five days from now is with the aid of these super-complex computer programs run on supercomputers. The two best, the European and the U.S. GFS (Global Forecast System) run by NOAA, are now in reasonable agreement that there IS going to be an extraordinarily unusual confluence of events that results in a massive storm….
The forecast is for an incredibly widespread and long-duration windstorm, meaning power will likely be out for an extended period of time in a lot of locations.
A transistor radio is your best friend in a situation like this. Get one and enough batteries to keep it going. Your cell phone may or may not be your friend after a big storm…. This storm, as forecast, will create dangerous and potentially life-threatening storm surge along hundreds of miles of coastline north of where the center comes ashore. Big storms move a lot of water, and this one is about as big as they come.
As Norcross notes, there’s a full moon Monday, meaning tides will be running high as well.
Mike Smith, a top executive of Accuweather, posts the following on his blog, along with a plea to people in the mid-Atlantic region to vote now, because “if the stronger models are correct, power could still be out in some places on election day:”
A very prominent and respected National Weather Service meteorologist wrote on Facebook last night:
“I’ve never seen anything like this and I’m at a loss for expletives to describe what this storm could do.”
Yes, I’ve never seen anything like it either nor have our modern meteorological tools. As I wrote yesterday afternoon, we don’t know whether our tools are up to the task because no storm of this nature has occurred in the modern meteorological era….
Power will fail in a large geographic area. There is a fair amount of inconsistent information this morning pertaining to peak gusts, i.e., will they be 60 mph or 80 mph? But, since power often fails with a 60 mph gust, it may not matter.
Because of the geographic extent (winds capable of causing power failures in a swath hundreds of miles in width), there could be massive power failures and, once out, the power may be out for weeks….
The storm surge will be destructive. Because wind speed and direction are so important, I can’t offer a map of predicted storm surges yet. But, there will be areas where the combination of full moon, waves of more than 20 feet, and storm surge cause great destruction in coastal areas.
We are in uncharted territory here. I believe this will be a major storm that will dominate the news for days. Prepare accordingly.”

You ever notice when this herd of fools are wrong it very often has dead bodies involved. And I not talking the one or two package I mean a wholesale disaster. Maybe that is Romney’s secret plan.

My neighborhood association people just emailed me upset about all the new Romney signs and soliciting people to put up lots of Obama signs.
The only reason these people have my email is for neighborhood reasons.
I’m pretty sure this means they’ve violated their tax exempt status. But maybe someone knows something I don’t about this sort of thing.
All I can say is Obama people are obnoxious. Now emailing the whole neighborhood association to push their side.

And here is the truth:
Fox News has learned from sources who were on the ground in Benghazi that an urgent request from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. consulate and subsequent attack several hours later on the annex itself was denied by the CIA chain of command — who also told the CIA operators twice to “stand down” rather than help the ambassador’s team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.
Former Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods was part of a small team who was at the CIA annex about a mile from the U.S. consulate where Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team came under attack. When he and others heard the shots fired, they informed their higher-ups at the annex to tell them what they were hearing and requested permission to go to the consulate and help out. They were told to “stand down,” according to sources familiar with the exchange. Soon after, they were again told to “stand down.”
Woods and at least two others ignored those orders and made their way to the consulate which at that point was on fire. Shots were exchanged. The rescue team from the CIA annex evacuated those who remained at the consulate and Sean Smith, who had been killed in the initial attack. They could not find the ambassador and returned to the CIA annex at about midnight.
At that point, they called again for military support and help because they were taking fire at the CIA safe house, or annex. The request was denied. There were no communications problems at the annex, according those present at the compound. The team was in constant radio contact with their headquarters. In fact, at least one member of the team was on the roof of the annex manning a heavy machine gun when mortars were fired at the CIA compound. The security officer had a laser on the target that was firing and repeatedly requested back-up support from a Spectre gunship, which is commonly used by U.S. Special Operations forces to provide support to Special Operations teams on the ground involved in intense firefights. The fighting at the CIA annex went on for more than four hours — enough time for any planes based in Sigonella Air base, just 480 miles away, to arrive. Fox News has also learned that two separate Tier One Special operations forces were told to wait, among them Delta Force operators.

Somewhere Mitt Romney is saying: “If I were President, this hurricane would have never been allowed to get this big. I would have taken aggressive measures to weaken it immediately. President Obama is showing weakness to this hurricane and before long all the other hurricanes are gonna know the US is weak and vulnerable to hurricanes and they will keep coming. People want to know when this administration first became aware of the hurricane and why they did not act sooner and what information is being withheld that shows they acted with callous disregard to the entire east coast of the United States. When I am President I will put a place a comprehensive and permanent solution to stop these hurricanes before they threaten the Unite States.”

Point of order: It’s not a hurricane, it’s a Frankenstorm. Its unprecedented in that it came from the south atlantic and made it’s way through the Carribean, and then threatened the US coast. That means that there’s no defense against it and we’re all sitting ducks. Why doesn’t anybody do something? If that hurricane become a category five, then we’ll have to let the supreme court pick our president again. A category four and maybe Obama gets a couple dozen electoral votes. Category three, it’s only a historic landslide for Romney. A two or a one and Romney wins by a respectable margin. This Frankenstorm is ruining everything!!!!

Ok, here is one possibility. SfD — “there isn’t any early voting in those states, save for MD”
Wow. That might very well change some things in the election if the storm does a lot of damage and there are no provisions for voting. I did not realize that so many states simply didn’t permit early voting at all.

k71 – So, now some young actress on the Bozo web site is pandering for the 18 and over first time female vote by comparing voting for Bozo being the same as losing your virginity.
What a dirty mind you have!!
Would you want them talking to your daughters this way? This is disgusting.
Huh? You’re talking about the same generation that watches “16 & Pregnant”, “Punked” and “Real Housewives”? HAHAHAHAHA!!! Too funny k71!! To dang funny!!!

You like the ad. I’m not surprised. It ain’t for first time female voters as well. Have any daughters, getalife? Think this idiot ought to be addressing your kids this way? I thought we had reached the bottom of the barrel. Guess not.

Doom — “Yeah. You are. The thought of your crap bag stinking up the room is nauseating me as I type.”
Good. I like it when you’re uncomfortable. It makes you more careless and liable to screw up. (laughing)
“But apparently I must be all up inside your head since you are always eager to attain my attentions day in day out.”
Doom, I hardly respond to you any more, if you hadn’t noticed. I prefer to discourse with people with a modicum of intelligence and a certain minimum level of self-control. Face it, son, you simply don’t measure up. (giggling)
“You don’t need my attention. And yet you continue to post for me.”
Silly Doom. YOU posted for ME. Thanks for that gift post about the World Series, son. It’s always fun to jab you when you eff up and post some dumbspit like that. (snicker)
“And you’re too easy of a target. Which is why I usually ignore you.”
You should probably ignore me today, since you’ve already been slapped down about the World Series. Maybe you could go back to provoking Jay and see how that works out for you. (laughing)
“You would rather be….No worries. You’re lame, a blowhard, and always wrong.”
Doom, just hush up before you fall further behind, son. (laughing, pointing)

I’m envisioning all sorts of lawsuits due to Frankenstorm now along the lines that people were denied their right to vote because of downed trees and blown-off-foundation polling places. I bet Gloria Allred is licking her big fake choppers.

Oral Roberts?
Well, some of you young’uns really missed out when you was born too late to see old Oral on TV. Those cries of HEAL JAESUS! would ring in your ears for days after you saw the program. There was always the sight of some old crone getting Oral’s hand on her forehead and then getting up and throwing away the crutches and walking out. And you knew you was getting near the end of the program when Oral talked to you about how important it was for you to mail in a offering to support the healing.

Last time I looked, none of these inane TV shows were running for the presidency of the United States. If this is your idea of the norm in presidential elections, you have a lot to learn. No wonder you are a whining liberal.

Bad news for Republicans, but good news for the rest of us. Maybe the hurricane will cheer them up a little, and give them something else to blame on Obama.
