The right wing is losing its last two marbles over Benghazi
Former Secretary of State Condi Rice went on Fox News Wednesday to discuss the Obama administration’s handling of the Benghazi attacks. Given her background and experience, she actually knows a thing or two about such issues, and it showed in her comments.
“When things are unfolding very very quickly, it’s not always easy to know what’s going on on the ground…,” she told Greta Van Susteren. “There’s a big picture to be examined here but we don’t have all of the pieces and I think it’s easy to try to jump to conclusions about what happened here. It’s probably better to let the relevent (investigative) bodies do their work.”
“The problem is when there is a fog of war like this, there are a lot of competing stories coming in, there’s a lot a competing information coming in, and it takes a little while to know precisely what has happened,” she went on to explain.
Even now, a month later, what Rice refers to as “the fog of war” has yet to lift. It took 10 days after the attack to even get FBI agents on the ground in Benghazi. To this day, there are still indications that the anti-Muslim video and the protests in Egypt played some role in what happened. There are still serious doubts whether the local militia group believed responsible has any ties whatsoever to al Qaida. And there is very good reason to believe that the attack was a crime of opportunity rather than some carefully planned military operation.
All in all, the tumult on the right about this story probably has the lowest content-to-noise ratio of any of the fake outrages fabricated so far by the right-wing media, and yes, I understand that’s saying a lot. Conservatives can’t even articulate what they’re mad about, only that they’re mad and somehow it’s Obama’s fault.
Michael Hirsh, a journalist with extensive overseas and warzone experience, does a good job of putting the fake scandal in context in a piece for National Journal. Take, for example, the newly released e-mails in which the State Department was notified that an Islamist group had claimed credit on Facebook for the Benghazi attacks. (The Facebook posting also called for an attack on the embassy in Tripoli, which never took place).
As Hirsh notes:
“The e-mails in question contained nothing more than “raw” intelligence, uncorroborated and unverified, that often flows in after an event. Intelligence officials typically don’t deliver their assessments until they have “finished” reports based on multiple sources, and corroborated evidence, and Obama officials such as (UN Ambassador Susan) Rice certainly would not have been out in front of the TV cameras citing raw intelligence. And as the government’s most senior officials say, the Benghazi case has taken them a long time to finish. “People forget that a Palestinian group was the first to claim credit for 9/11,” the intelligence official said. “There was no message from the field in those first hectic days that would have eliminated questions or proven who was behind the attack.”

As much as I like Condi Rice she’s never been in combat. There’s no fog of war when your people are under attack. I’ll defer to some better military minds than my own that said there wasn’t time to deploy an effective reaction force to Benghazi timely enough to make a difference. However, given the documented risk why was there not a fast team close by? That question is on the White House.

The WH can’t know more than its intelligence operations can discover and verify.”. Thus, the CIA deemed credible that this was all driven by a poorly-directs movie trailer. Really? That’s new to me – can you show me where we can learn more about this? You obviously have seen reports that only the WH has seen.

To paraphase, Romney said the State Department was wrong to apologize to the riotors in Cairo for agreeing with them about the video tape. The State Department then walked back their comment after consulting with the white house.

The question that needs to be asked is if this tragic event had occurred one year ago, would it have any legs at this point? The politics of it all presented an opportunity for the challenger but it is a double edged sword. The truth will come out, it should not be tied to an election deadline…

Ah, You can always count on Jay to come to the defense of the Dems.. There are two questions here and Jay, like most Obama coolade drinkers, continues to ignore the second (and by far the most important).
1. How can you sit in the situation room and watch, in real time, outnumbered and underarmed American citizens being attacked and killed; while they are begging for aide and assistance, and do nothing? even if it was going to be too late! How do you do that? I can’t remember a single incident in Vietnam or the Gulf war where we sat and did nothing knowing our fellow soldiers were fighting and dieing.
2. But, to me, like the Watergate scandal that Libs are so fond of going back to, the real scandal was not so much the Watergate break-in but rather the massive coverup by the Nixon administration to try to hide the facts. That is what brought Nixon down; the coverup. Once the Obama administration realized that they had left the Bengazi people out on a limb without proper protection, even though the had repeatedly requested it, they scrambled to coverup the real reason 4 Americans were dead…….i.e. political considerations; we couldn’t show that Libya was. at best, fragmenting, and at worst falling apart with radicals gaining an upper hand, as they seem to be in Iraq and perhaps in Afgan also. We have to show that our foreign policy is working, so we pull out protective guards just prior to 9/11? That is a pure political decision, having nothing to do with the situation on the ground. And then continuing to send out the talking heads to parrot the mob and video lie for weeks? That is the real travesty.
If you make a bad call and then have it go wrong, you own up to it, something this Whitehouse seems incapable of doing.

This whole series of incidents is a real time example of why this administration is too stupid to protect us. One of their most recent “flip flops”, myths, lies, stories used to cover up the truth is our “intelligence” people are too incompetent to understand something as complicated as the Benghazi terrorist attack and may require months of further study to figure it all out. It may be months before the”fog of war” clears to the point that it can be explained so that we little people will understand. In fact, it is so complicated a committee had to be formed to gather the informaion andthey will figure it all out.
Now if we assume this to be true, how then are we to trust these incompetent brain dead weasels to know when Iran will obtain a nucleur weapon? I mean really. This administration can’t figure out what happened in a friendly country by a handful of disorganized people that we actually watched perform their dastardly deed on TV but we are supposed to trust that they will know what a highly sophisticated country who is our enemy is doing under ground behind secret doors? Jeff, you could take a look at how the NYT ignored John Edwards’ actual affair during the 2008 primaries & gave front page coverage to a purported affair John McCain supposedly had with a lobbyist which never went anywhere because it never existed. Always wondered why. John Edwards wasn’t exactly taking votes away from Obama. But he was taking them from Hillary. So mainstream media didn’t touch the story. The public had to rely on the National Enquirer to do an investigation that mainstream media would have been all over if John Edwards had been a Republican. So you just keep drinking that kool-aid Jeff. I hope it tastes good.
