Armstrong Cable, the nation’s 15th largest cable company, operates in six states, including Ohio and Pennsylvania. Earlier this month, for the first time in company history, it decided to offer all of its subscribers free access to a recently released movie. In the past, it has always charged subscribers to see such movies.

The film in question? “Obama’s America: 2016.”

“There is no agenda here,” Dave Wittmann, Armstrong’s vice-president of marketing, told the Pittsburgh CityPaper.

Maybe not. However, it’s interesting to note that last month, Jay Sedwick, Armstrong’s chairman, maxed out his donations to Mitt Romney’s campaign at $5,000, and gave another $25,000 to the Republican National Committee. The company also is listed as providing American Crossroads — the Karl Rove SuperPAC — $1.32 million in in-kind cable access last month.

The movie itself is such an obvious hackjob, designed largely to inflame those already nurturing resentment of Obama’s success, that I’m dubious it will have much impact. But it’s interesting as yet another example of the lengths that some in the 1 percent are willing to go in this campaign.

There are multiple examples of companies pressuring their employees to vote for Romney, warning them they might lose their jobs if Obama is re-elected. Earlier I highlighted the example of David Siegel, owner of Westgate Resorts, who sent such a letter to his workforce. Atlanta-based Georgia Pacific, owned by the Koch brothers, sent a similar letter to its 45,000 employees, warning that “many of our more than 50,000 U.S. employees and contractors may suffer the consequences” if the wrong man is elected president. Just to make clear who that wrong man might be, the packet included columns written by the Koch brothers endorsing Romney and condemning Obama.

None of this is illegal, at least not in the wake of the Citizens United ruling by the Supreme Court. But it does provide interesting insight — especially in light of Mitt Romney’s infamous little speech about the despised 47 percent — into the largely unexplored undercurrents of this campaign.

Adam, while I would agree that any voter registration fraud, any voter fraud and voter suppression should be condemned, I am not in a rush to condemn Moran as actually having intended to commit voter fraud nor was the any actual fraud committed. Patrick Moran said late yesterday that he thought the man was joking “and only for that reason did I humor him.”

At best, he was guilty of bad judgment but given the history of O’Keefe, the limited edited evidence may be questionable. And the “moral outrage” of the type of poster who claims this is “voter fraud” is just clownish given their failure to be outraged at the substantial evidences of RNC voter registration fraud and other efforts at the highest level.

Jay, I agree with all except your statement that “none of this is illegal.” An employer voicing his opinion on who he will vote for is legal but it is an open question about tieing that to threats re employment. That will require a fact intensive individual evaluation of each document discerning how general the employment prediction is versus how specific to the employer’s own business. If I were an employer, I would be thinking hard about whether pushing so aggressively for Romney is worth the risk of some time in the slammer.

Romney’s comment about 47% of voters wasn’t a speech and I don’t recall the term “despised” being used. You have added an inflammatory spin, and both sides do it, that divides the country when we need to be doing just the opposite. Can anyone explain to me why this is relevant…this is like saying you have to look up to see the sky…Of course they all will do anything to win…Obama included..

Obama’s record sucks and Romney is…well Romney…Obama is guilty of the same crap in his career and has spent his entire campaign attacking his opponent hoping we won’t notice his failings (and same old promises) in deficit, working with congress, taking criminal actions v wall steet and the like, immigration reform…blah blah blah..

Well, all I can figure is, somebody’s lying like a cheap rug. Either Obama’s going to win this colledge thing or Romney’s going to wipe the floor with him. I reckon we’ll know the truth in about 12 days. Either us Conservative Republicans will be sucking the big one like #1 Foxy Lady tells us to do or we’ll be plumb drunk with joy and getting ready to get rid of Obamacare, welfare cheats, and big taxes.

I don’t know anybody dumb enough not to of made up their mind by now. Let’s just hold the dang election now and get it over with. All I do know is there’s going to be alot of scratched car and trunk bumpers from getting rid of the stickers of the losing canadate.

Jay, the Obama Campaign strategy from the very beginning was to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in an unprecedented negative advertising campaign aimed at character assasinating Romney so as to have Romney defined this way among the population-at-large. I believe that months ago, you described such strategy as “shrewd”. I thought it was a despicable strategy, and that it was far more despicable in my opinion than the race that George H.W. Bush ran against Dukakis in 1988, which up until the campaign Obama has run in 2012 was the most despicable I had seen. I was so turned off by what the first Bush did in 1988 that I ended up voting for Dukakis, even though I thought Reagan was one of the great presidents. Please don’t complain that outside groups supporting Romney are going all out to defeat Obama. Both sides are going all out to defeat the other. But with specific regard to the Obama and Romney Campaigns — Romney has engaged in a much cleaner race than Obama. Anyone who can’t see that has their partisan head in the sand.

yuzeyurbrane: An employer voicing his opinion on who he will vote for is legal but it is an open question about tieing that to threats re employment. That will require a fact intensive individual evaluation of each document discerning how general the employment prediction is versus how specific to the employer’s own business. If I were an employer, I would be thinking hard about whether pushing so aggressively for Romney is worth the risk of some time in the slammer.

I would imagine that some HR departments will be very concerned about who may be terminated after the election. There will be some claims that an Obama supporter was terminated wrongfully. Even in Georgia, an “at-will” employment state, an employer cannot terminate for an unlawful purpose.

I would also hope that we see more shareholder actions on these matters as weak as the laws are to protect shareholders from these types of abuses.

Economists agree that the GDP will grow at about the same pace or better over the next 4 years regardless of who is in office. The only things that will change that are the unlikely event of passing the American Jobs Act, or the likely event of a Romney/Ryan ticket signing more tax cuts into law (which would REDUCE GDP growth – FACT).

Well, in the wake of Citizen’s United, you’re going to see all kinds of precedents made in campaigning. I don’t think we’ve even come close to seeing the most brazen of them yet.

They are no different..

When a true moderate Republican comes out and openly states he doesn’t trust this new “moderate” Romney, I would tend to think they are not quite one and the same as you say. That’s just my view though.

Why would anyone vote for 1% GDP growth for the next four years is beyond belief?

In math, 1% > 0%. As weak as 1% GDP growth is, it’s better than the freefall we had before due to the last “conservative” in office. Given that Romney is probably a liberal today because of how hard he’s shifted from the right to get to the middle, we can’t say that Romney will do any better than that 1%.

Regardless to who’s in office, it’s up to the private sector to push that percentage up. It has nothing to do with politics, as it’s all about supply vs demand. Until somebody tunes out the voices in their head and realize that you have to put money into the hands of the people who will spend it, our economy will continue to be f**ked up. Clinging tightly to money like it’s the last Krispy Kreme doughnut in the box doesn’t help our economy.

I have long said I have no problem with the concept of requiring photo ID to vote in the long run. T He problem I have is forcing it on the entire population without ensuring that all legitimate voters have the IDs, or as many of them as possible in all good faith, for free, and without having to travel 120 miles (or even 5) under their own power to get them – BEFORE you start requiring it in elections.

There’s a no holds barred effort across the board to demonize Romney and prop up Obama. Name someone in the major media who is asking tough questions, holding the administration accountable on Benghazi, Fast and Furious, Obamacare costs, sequestration plans, tax plans, etc. These individuals are Obama advocates, not journalists. And let’s not forget the no holds barred efforts of union bosses who try to influence others’ votes. It’s no holds barred any way you look at it. And why is it like this? He doesn’t actually interview anyone who experienced life with Barack, and makes a specious link between his own life and Obama’s, and uses a word no one on the right understands but they all use it anyway (anti-colonial) to describe basically a projection of what Obama must think and feel due to Dinesh’s very limited worldview. In addition, I am convinced he is more in it for the money than anything else.

You can look to Europe and see what the Ryan/Romney plan has done.

Obama 2016 is reportedly the second highest grossing documentary ranked behind one produced and directed by Michael Moore. It was well researched and presented creditable facts about Obama’s upbringing and associations including his fathers views regarding the United States and the Western world. D’Souza left it up to the viewer to formulate their own conclusions. It’s hard to say what effect if any this documentary may have had on the electorate at large but in my own opinion anyone with an open mind who watched it could only come away wondering how Obama could not have been greatly influenced by those known associations and in particular his father along with others during his formative years.

In addition with units in place, less than an hour away, our presidentchose not to use those units to protect our people! While our people died, where was the president?

Williebkind, I do not need the money. Aren’t you the one who’s always asking “are you better off than you were four years ago?” to which my answer continues to be “yes.”

There are legitimate reasons for wanting to see Romney’s tax returns as I’m sure his approach to future tax policy could be influenced by his past behavior in how he approaches his tax liability. It’s customary for presidential contenders to show tax returns going back a dozen years or so, yet Romney has refused to show his for all but the last two years. Considering that’s a time frame during which he knew he better clean up his act, I don’t think they really tell us what we need to know.

So this is a big issue and one which he continues to evade — tax evasion, if you will.

fred, what follows is my original post and I’ll call your attention to my reference that the subject documentary was “reportedly” the third highest grossing documentary but that wasn’t the main point of my post unless you have a severe reading comprehension problem. You probably didn’t see this documentary so debating with me on my main point wasn’t doable. Instead you cherry picked my ranking reference that once again I referred to as being reported, not absolute fact. Do you have social interaction problems that cause you to come on a blog daily looking for immature opportunities for picking fights?

Obama 2016 is reportedly the second highest grossing documentary ranked behind one produced and directed by Michael Moore. It was well researched and presented creditable facts about Obama’s upbringing and associations including his fathers views regarding the United States and the Western world. D’Souza left it up to the viewer to formulate their own conclusions. It’s hard to say what effect if any this documentary may have had on the electorate at large but in my own opinion anyone with an open mind who watched it could only come away wondering how Obama could not have been greatly influenced by those known associations and in particular his father along with others during his formative years.

Good morning to you, also, Stevie Ray. Well, I guess we just see President Obama through different eyes. I see Obamacare as a monumental accomplishment for the betterment of America. A universal healthcare plan had been attempted for Americans for a half century but no president before Obama was able to get it done. Had he not accomplished making the ACA into law when he did, it would not have happened for many years, if not for decades, because of the change in the numbers in Congress after 2010.

I urge you to reread what I stated in my 10:59 am post today. I am very concerned about what will happen to our democratic republic if Gov. Romney is elected as President. He is wearing a “soft-edged” facade right now, imo, but he is a man who will do the bidding of those powerful moguls who will have put him into office, and that vision is radical, in my opinion, not only in terms of women’s rights, but for education, and for the betterment of average middle/class Americans. Just a minute ago, I saw Romney on television speaking extremely fervently in Cincinnati, Ohio, about changing our schools to those of “choice” with is a code word for dismantling public education to private enterprise school markets for profit. Frightening in the context of what I wrote at 10:59 am, above.

I wish very much that I could change your mind to vote for President Obama – and also change the minds of all who read this blog who have decided to vote for Gov. Romney – because I truly fear for what America will become under the leadership of present day Republicans. with their fervent, regressive, and out-of-balance ideology, as I see it.

Mighty Righty, please read the full words that Jefferson penned in the Declaration of Independence regarding our “government.” In my opinion – and I mean this as no personal insult to you but as a suggestion to you so that you might more fully understand – I belive that you have been listening to too much propaganda on rightwing media which constantly speaks against our “government,” even ironically as the wealthy elite, who finance these media outlets for their own mercenary and ideological purposes, also use also our “government” – through stealthy means – to serve their self-interested mercenary ends by controlling the minds and the votes of unaware citizens whom they have manipulated through demagoguery.

Lets start with the government refusing to implement laws Obama disagrees with or the illegal sale of thousands of guns to Mexican Drug Cartels resulting in hinded of Mexicans and one of our border agents killed. How about Eric Holder dropping charges of the voter intimidation thugs in Philadelphia caught on video tape. How about the solid month of lies about Benghazi. How about a sitting president suing a state because the stae wants to enforce laws the president is refusing to enforce. How about meeting in the middle of the night under cover of darkness to pass the largest boondoggle costing the most tax dollars in american history. How about refusing to turn over documents to the people we elected to keep and eye on him and his administration. I can’t see Romney doing any of this.

Examples are ignoring the welefare work requirement, ignoring enforcement of immigration law, ignoring prosecution of voter intimidation laws, making verbal agreements with foreign governments that indicate a willingness to ignore the desires of the people, ignoring congressional committee over site responsibilities as mandated by the constitution, and on and on.

Mighty Righty, my thinking does not overlap completely with that of Thomas Jefferson’s, but my thinking does overlap with his thinking regarding “the inherent and unalienable rights of man,” that “all are created equal,” on the need of public education to sustain our democratic republic, and the absolute necessity of freedom of thought, without constraints.

Please read my following entry in my personal blog, entitled “Egalitarianism and Capitalism,” to see how my thoughts overlap with Jefferson’s in the core of his perceptions, and how my thoughts on the role of government in today’s world overlap more with the ideas of FDR’s and FDR’s concept of a 2nd Bill of Rights for all Americans, than with Jefferson’s idea of a more limited government. However, Jefferson’s mind was so visionary and complex that he allowed for a possible changing of the role of government in the future because he believed primarily in freedom of thought, even over the role of government. We are in danger of having our freedom of thought impaired in today’s America not by the government but by the wealthy and powerful moguls of industry, of whom Jefferson always had suspicion because of their mercenary cores. He knew that these moguls would try to manipulate the majority, average citizens to serve their own mercenary interests – and would be able to do so – unless all Americans were educated – through public education – to see into the selfish machinations of the wealthy/powerful elite of our nation.

I have told my employees (98) that if Obama wins, I shut my company down. I don’t need the money, my employees and there families do.
