Those who have followed Fulton County politics for a long time will recognize the name Hans von Spakovsky. Back in the ’90s, as a local lawyer active in Republican circles, he started raising allegations of serious voting fraud that somehow never quite seemed to pan out.

Hans von Spakovsky
Apparently, however, somebody somewhere recognized that the fraud allegation itself, even if merely a myth never bolstered by evidence, would be useful in justifying a push for more restrictive ballot laws that might tamp down Democratic turnout. It allowed von Spakovsky to take his schtick national, in time nailing a job in the voting rights section of the Bush Justice Department in which he tried — vainly, despite all the resources of the federal government — to establish that in-person vote fraud posed a clear and present danger to American democracy.
It might be too much to say that von Spakovsky singlehandedly created the mythology of voter fraud, but it clearly created him, serving as a hobbyhorse that he rode to prominence in conservative circles.
Jane Mayer, writing in the current New Yorker, tells his story well, along the way documenting multiple examples in which cases of in-person voting fraud cited by von Spakovsky seem to melt away like desert mirages upon closer inspection. His career is a great example of the power, and the danger, of a useful lie.
ADDENDUM: While we’re on the general topic, it might be useful to try to squelch early, fringe stirrings on the left alleging a conservative conspiracy to fix voting machines in Ohio. As the theory is spun at Truthout.org:
“Through a closely held equity fund called Solamere, Mitt Romney and his wife, son and brother are major investors in an investment firm called H.I.G. Capital. H.I.G. in turn holds a majority share and three out of five board members in Hart Intercivic, a company that owns the notoriously faulty electronic voting machines that will count the ballots in swing state Ohio November 7. Hart machines will also be used elsewhere in the United States.
In other words, a candidate for the presidency of the United States, and his brother, wife and son, have a straight-line financial interest in the voting machines that could decide this fall’s election. These machines cannot be monitored by the public. But they will help decide who “owns” the White House.
The claim is nonsense and without backing in fact. If you’re going to make charges or even raise suspicions of that grave nature, you need much more than a knee-bone-connected-to-the-thigh-bone argument of the sort offered here.
Otherwise, you’re no better than the von Spakovskys of the world.

Not me. First I heard of it. I’m in tech, so the individual machines bother me less than the software used to collect the data from the machines. If you’re going to do massive vote fraud, that’s where you’d want to do it, not at the individual machine level. On the other hand, the government-led purging of voter rolls, like they tried in Florida with nearly a million people is a bigger problem.

Evidence of voter fraud, in Washington state, in Minnesota, and in St. Louis is much better than evidence of “hunger” anywhere in America. (Although I admit that is funny language used by leftists – everyone gets hungry from time to time, and hunger is probably the greatest economic motivator ever discovered.)
The proposed cure for vote fraud – for everyone to present evidence they likely already have, proving they are who they claim to be – is nearly cost free, and undoubtedly enhances the integrity of the process. The only people injured in the process are those who would corrupt the process. Perversely it is only the left that opposes integrity in the vote.

Well, when you work in Wetumpka, AL for the same family run business for 30 years, you didn’t need 2 forms of ID when you started working. When you have kids/grandkids who drive you around to run errands, you don’t need a photo ID to drive. When you own rifles/shotguns, you don’t need an ID to register for a concealment permit.

You’ve touched on something I wanted to expand a bit. Yes, the GOP voter suppression efforts are effective inasmuch as they probably succeed in shaving a point or two (at least I hope that’s probably about all) off the opposition’s vote, whether through outright removal of legal voters from the rolls or via more generalized discouragement.
But this also provides a rallying cry for otherwise unmotivated GOP voters. Voting becomes just a little more critical if you think that the other side has armies of “illegal” voters stuffing the ballot boxes, after all. That’s probably good for half a point or so at least.
Put it together, and you have enough of an advantage to take the close ones, anyway. That’s why the GOP does this.
(Oh, and because they don’t mind acting like un-American swine, I guess.)

BTW, a software application that generates reports can be programmed to generate any output the programmer wants it to. All that’s required is an embedded script that circumvents a portion of the input criteria. Unless the source code is available for independent analysis, we have no way of knowing whether, when, or where that is happening.
(FYI: This scenario — as unlikely as it might seem to non-IT personnel — is far more plausible than someone having a baby in Africa and placing a birth announcement in a Hawaiian newspaper the next day, in preparation for duping the America people into electing a foreigner 40+ years later. Just sayin’.)

To believe the conservative theorists, you have to be willing to believe that it is possible to recruit a large number of people — large enough to alter the outcome of an important election, so were talking hundreds in not thousands — and then convince them that it is worth risking a felony conviction for them to attempt to go to the polls to impersonate somebody else and maybe just maybe alter an election outcome.
Furthermore — and this is where it gets good — you then have to believe that these many people — the theory often describes them as homeless or otherwise down on their luck — never ever squeal on the plot. They never ever tell someone else, they never ever trade the story of how they helped rigged an election in return for, say, a better deal from the DA.
No. In the conservative mind, this is a perfect conspiracy with perfect internal security carried out simultaneously by large numbers of people in cities all over the country who in every other aspect of their lives are utterly irresponsible.
In other words, it is ridiculous and laughable on its face.

Just for you, not that I think you’ll read this because there are no pretty pictures drawn with crayons….
A News21 analysis of 2,068 alleged election-fraud cases since 2000 shows that while fraud has occurred, the rate is infinitesimal, and in-person voter impersonation on Election Day, which prompted 37 state legislatures to enact or consider tough voter ID laws, is virtually non-existent.
In an exhaustive public records search, News21 reporters sent thousands of requests to elections officers in all 50 states, asking for every case of fraudulent activity including registration fraud, absentee ballot fraud, vote buying, false election counts, campaign fraud, casting an ineligible vote, voting twice, voter impersonation fraud and intimidation.
Analysis of the resulting comprehensive News21 election fraud database turned up 10 cases of voter impersonation. With 146 million registered voters in the United States during that time, those 10 cases represent one out of about every 15 million prospective voters.
“Voter fraud at the polls is an insignificant aspect of American elections,” said elections expert David Schultz, professor of public policy at Hamline University School of Business in St. Paul, Minn.
“There is absolutely no evidence that (voter impersonation fraud) has affected the outcome of any election in the United States, at least any recent election in the United States,” Schultz said.
The News21 analysis of its election fraud database shows:
• In-person voter-impersonation fraud is rare. The database shows 207 cases of other types of fraud for every case of voter impersonation.
“The fraud that matters is the fraud that is organized. That’s why voter impersonation is practically non-existent because it is difficult to do and it is difficult to pull people into conspiracies to do it,” said Lorraine Minnite, professor of public policy and administration at Rutgers University.
• There is more fraud in absentee ballots and voter registration than any other categories. The analysis shows 491 cases of absentee ballot fraud and 400 cases of registration fraud. A required photo ID at the polls would not have prevented these cases.
Voter ID laws, as written, try to deal with IN PERSON fraud at the polls. The ID laws do nothing about registration or absentee balloting where there is exponentially more fraud. If you’re capable of following a link, here’s the link to the database of all the voting fraud cases they researched nationwide since 2000.

Jm, well unlike you, I do admit when I post something and I do read the links before commenting. I did not post any such thing but that wont stop you from lying anyway. We’ve seen that. I have said in the past that voter fraud is more likely to take place in other situations other than “in person” voting fraud where a single person votes 2-3 times. Electronic balloting and tampering are ripe for that situation, which is NOT the same as claiming that it has occurred or that a certain candidate has done that.
But of course you can’t put on your big boy pants and even admit an article that talks about Delphi was not saying that it was currently a GM subsidiary, so I can’t imagine that you would be able to comprehend the nuances of my prior paragraph.

Well, I got to admit I use to vote twice in a election—once here and once up in Rome GA where they kept me on the rolls. But then four years ago the state started making a big push to find and punish people like that and I gave it up. Besides, I ain’t getting any younger and that 80 minute drive each way was wearing me down.
So I tell everybody now, if you’re going to cheat do it by absentee ballot. My Mommy’s been dead 25 years and she’s still voting. You don’t need to show voter ID or nothing. Just be careful you don’t put a death notice in the paper if you plan on trying to figure out how a dead person would of voted if still alive. Even the most Conservative Republicans in this state won’t touch absentee voting and they won’t take you off of the rolls unless they suspect you’re dead.
Have a good night everybody.

In my entire life I’ve had many jobs, including working for a friend of the family. I still had to provide 2 requisite forms of ID for his company and for every single job I’ve ever worked. What you are talking about is the exception and not the norm. And I seriously doubt that 25% of poor people work for a family business that they’ve known for 30 years and therefore they just don’t need id.
What about banking, driving, buying one freaking beer, etc? And are 25% of all poor people old people that are so old they never had a driver’s license and no longer drive? Not a single one of of my 65+ customers no longer drive and don’t have id that I am aware of. Not one. On a personal ad family basis I know a few seniors that no longer drive. But they still have driver’s licenses just so that they will have a photo id. Every one of them.

To date there has been 1, that is ONE, documented case in GA of voter fraud. That was in 1948. Yet the Gpublicans felt it necessary to pass the voter ID. Exempting notably: the absentee ballot.
The only voters affected are the poor white and black “share croppers” of rural GA who have NEVER needed a photo ID. EVERYBODY knows them. The whites have been voting since reconstruction. The blacks since 1965 and always in the same place where EVERYBODY knows them.
They don’t drive, rent video’s, cash checks, have credit or need a photo ID. Now they do, by decree of Teapublican legislators everywhere. PA’s tried it. FLA’s tried it. Indians has the best story.
A precinct in Indiana held it’s vote in a Convent for years. The Sisters were the poll workers. In 2008 the Sisters were forbidden from voting because they had no photo ID’s. Never had or never will need them. Their right to vote was stolen from them by Republicans trying to “cleanse” the voter roll’s of illegal voters. Wonder what God thinks of this one.
At home for me, FLA, the Fpublican Gov tried to “cleanse” the rolls of “suspect” voters, about 200,000. They were mostly, but not exclusively, black and hispanic. To date there are a total of 50 questionable voters. Still waiting on the results of if they are legal or not. But let’s say they aren’t. That makes a total of 51 bad’s in GA and FLA. So that justifies removing the right to vote of several million? I thought everybody has had the right to vote since 1965. Guess the clock is being turned back.
Vote early, vote often. Ignore repub voter ID, vote absentee.

I didn’t state it was wide reaching. My point is, you’re looking at the problem from YOUR personal perspective. You signal that by adding your personal testimony. That said, you don’t know the situation of most or even a significant part of the people with no ID. Do you think someone with Downs Syndrome will have a photo ID if they’ve never worked, never driven, and mom/dad takes care of them? If they’re over the age of 18, they are still entitled to vote.
I understand your point about the ID, and most people should possess at least one photo ID. My major problems with the ID laws is that:
#1 They don’t address absentee ballot identification.
#2 They vary, from state to state, in what constitutes a valid ID.
If the laws were consistent and covered ALL forms of voting, including the registration process, I would back the laws 100%.

Mr. Bookman,
I appreciate that you’re not willing to give in to conspiracy theories. Doing so would sort of negate everything about what you do that matters.
However, I have worked in the information technology field fore more than two decades, and have befriended quite a few supergeeks along the way.
Q: Are they jacking up voting machines in a few key precincts in Ohio?
A: I have no way of knowing, and therefore cannot claim to know.
Q: IS IT POSSIBLE for programmers to create and install nearly identical programs rigged with an alternate output?
A: Yes, it is, but I do not ask you to take my word for it. (WTF does MATTI know anyway?) Any competent software developer could tell you how that can be done, though the ability to follow along varies with the listener.
Hint to the journalist: Dell has a local office here, with a division of highly-skilled “security” specialists. Maybe one of them will tell you something on (or mostly likely off) the record.
Another tip:
Comparing something to “birthers” does not automatically make it untrue, any more than comparing the rat in your basement to Micky Mouse renders it magically non-existent.

To the snaky aircraft carrier person. That wasn’t snaky, it’s the truth. One modern ship has the capabilities of a fleet of WW1 or WW2 ships. And even Saint Ron “wanted” a 300 ship Navy but never got it. As retired Navy I think we need to cut 2 AF fighter wings and build 2 more carrier battle groups. But I’m not in congress. Willard looked completely outclassed when he tried to compare modern weapons and weapon systems to the past. But he got “Obamanized”. Waxed by Obama. Experience counts and Willard is laking.

OK, Ben, let’s walk through your scenario slowly, shall we?
1.) You allege that illegal immigrants can get drivers’ licenses.
2.) Using said driver’s license, they register to vote.
3.) They then show up at the precinct, show their driver’s license, and vote. Since the drivers license does not indicate citizenship, how exactly does a voter ID requirement solve this supposedly serious problem that you’ve outlined?
Is that simple enough for the dim-bulb persona you project here?

You keep bringing up the exception and not the norm. It does not apply and as has been pointed out that if someone is truly elderly in most of these bills there is a requirement that the state issue that person an id free of charge. Nevertheless I think that since the Dems seem to oppose reasonable measures of making elections as clean as possible we should just go to the low tech purple ink finger plan. Perhaps as you say its a difference in opinion of what the norm is regarding having ID. I can understand very elderly and in particular minority elderly people not having photo id. And I’m talking very elderly as in 80s or 90s. But for people between 18 and retirement age of 65-70 to be walking around not needing or wanting photo id is simply ridiculous. What manner of an idiot goes through life without a photo id for banking, employment, driving, etc.? Are they all planning on working for a family friend who won’t require a photo id? Perhaps I’m just not as easygoing about that level of ignorance and people putting themselves volutarily at that kind of self disadvantage in terms of employment and future.

Voter fraud is also damn near impossible to prove on the spot.
In person voting fraud may be proven in a number of ways. Proving it “on the spot” is not a requirement for criminal prosecution. It takes a lot of information. If it means voting more than once (and not some claim of a non-citizen voting), knowing a voter name who is registered, who has not voted already, where they vote, having address information to match voter rolls, etc. Not to mention that others may know that “person” and that cameras may capture you in the area.
But again, silly person, you have to have sufficient “in person voting” to impact an election. In most situations that requires hundreds, if not thousands of votes, for local elections.

If we could do it, I’d take you through places like Winston Co in Alabama. That would probably open your eyes a bit and realize it’s not ignorance, as you suggest. People in small towns know each other. They cash checks without ID because they’ve known each other all their lives. It’s one thing in urban and suburban areas, and something entirely different when you get to the rural areas. There is no disadvantages as the people doing the employing are sometimes the very people who changed the diapers and such.
It’s not about being easygoing either. I have lots of family and friends who come from rural areas, and the way they live is completely foreign to people who live in urban or suburban areas.

I’ve made the suggestion of switching to biometric registration. Since most places are using touch screen electronic voting, I don’t think it would be much of a stretch to add a fingerprint capture mechanism on the actual machine to verify the person voting as someone who’s registered to vote.
I would also remove all 3rd party registration and leave it to the secretary of state in each state to officially register people to ensure they are accurately ID’d and registered.

Below is a real origin of Democrat fraud that happened well before the one cited here. In this case there is real evedence of voter fraud although the conclusions may be faulty. Copied from Wikipedia for the enlightenment of those too young to remember when JFK may have stolen his election. ThIs contaons real not myth based examples.
Many Republicans (including Nixon and Eisenhower) believed that Kennedy had benefited from vote fraud, especially in Texas, where Kennedy’s running mate Lyndon B. Johnson was Senator, and Illinois, home of Mayor Richard Daley’s powerful Chicago political machine.[25] These two states are important because if Nixon had carried both, he would have won the election in the Electoral College. Republican Senators such as Everett Dirksen and Barry Goldwater also believed that vote fraud played a role in the election,[24] and they believed that Nixon actually won the national popular vote. Republicans tried and failed to overturn the results in both these states at the time—as well as in nine other states.[30] Some journalists also later claimed that mobster Sam Giancana and his Chicago crime syndicate played a role in Kennedy’s victory in Illinois.[30]
.
Kennedy won Illinois by less than 9,000 votes out of 4.75 million cast, or a margin of 0.2%.[25] However, Nixon carried 92 of the state’s 101 counties, and Kennedy’s victory in Illinois came from the city of Chicago, where Mayor Richard J. Daley held back much of Chicago’s vote until the late morning hours of November 9. The efforts of Daley and the powerful Chicago Democratic organization gave Kennedy an extraordinary Cook County victory margin of 450,000 votes—more than 10% of Chicago’s 1960 population of 3.55 million,[In Texas, Kennedy defeated Nixon by a narrow 51% to 49% margin, or 46,000 votes.[25] Some Republicans argued that Johnson’s formidable political machine had stolen enough votes in counties along the Mexican border to give Kennedy the victory. Kennedy’s defenders, such as his speechwriter and special assistant Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr., have argued that Kennedy’s margin in Texas (46,000 votes) was simply too large for vote fraud to have been a decisive factor, although cases of voter fraud were discovered there. For example, Fannin County had only 4,895 registered voters, yet 6,138 votes were cast in that county, three-quarters for Kennedy.[24] In an Angelina County precinct, Kennedy received a higher number of votes than the total number of registered voters in the precinct.[24] When Republicans demanded a statewide recount, they learned that the state Board of Elections, whose members were all Democrats, had already certified Kennedy as the official winner in Texas.[24]

Especially when one of the earliest proponents of the idea couldn’t, even as an insider, get the Bush Justice Department to take him seriously.
That’s the BUSH Justice Department. You know, BUSH? The guy who carried a state by a couple hundred votes, tops? Whose brother was the Republican governor of the state? From the Washington Post…
Maryland Democrat quits congressional race amid vote fraud allegations
By Ben Pershing
This post has been updated
A Maryland Democratic candidate quit her congressional race Monday after her own party told state officials that she had committed fraud by voting in both Maryland and Florida in recent elections.
Wendy Rosen, a small-business owner running against freshman Rep. Andy Harris (R) in the Eastern Shore-based 1st Congressional District, released a statement saying that “with great regret, and much sorrow” she was resigning from the contest.
“Personal issues have made this the hardest decision that I have had to make,” Rosen said
Rosen’s announcement came the same day the state Democratic party released a letter to state Attorney General Douglas Gansler and state prosecutors reporting the allegations against Rosen.
“The Maryland Democratic Party has discovered that Ms. Rosen has been registered to vote in both Florida and Maryland since at least 2006; that she in fact voted in the 2006 general election both in Florida and Maryland; and that she voted in the presidential preference primaries held in both Florida and Maryland in 2008,” wrote Yvette Lewis, the state party chair. “This information is based on an examination of the voter files from both states. We believe that this is a clear violation of Maryland law and urge the appropriate office to conduct a full investigation.”
A senior Maryland Democrat said the party had been tipped off this weekend by someone within the party about Rosen’s potential issue. After checking the allegation, the party contacted Rosen on Monday morning and urged her to quit.
Local Democratic committees in the 1st district will now meet and vote on a new candidate to replace Rosen on the ballot. The new name must be submitted to the state by Sept. 27.
Regardless of his opponent, Harris is considered a safe bet for reelection. Though the 1st district was previously competitive — Democrat Frank Kratovil won the seat in 2008 before being ousted by Harris in 2010 — it was redrawn to be safer for Republicans after the 2010 Census.
Voter fraud has been a heated political issue, both in Maryland and across the country. Republicans have frequently accused Democrats of turning their backs on the practice, while Democrats say the GOP uses alleged fraud as a way to keep Democrats from the polls.
“If the Maryland Democrat Party is willing to push one of its own candidates out of the race due to voter fraud, I’m sure this means they will join us in an effort to purge the rolls across Maryland of illegal immigrants, the deceased, and those otherwise unqualified to vote,” said David Ferguson, executive director of the Maryland Republican Party. “It is a sad state of affairs that Democrat voters considered Wendy Rosen to be their model citizen for the First District and represent them on November’s ballot.”
As recently as Sunday, Rosen still believed her campaign was going full-speed ahead.
“My trip to Charlotte was incredible!” she wrote on her Facebook page. “I didn’t get a moment on the floor of the arena … I spent all of my time hunting for campaign support! Everyone was so helpful from Jan Schakowsky and Ben Cardin to all of the women’s groups, environmental groups, jewish organizations. I feel re-energized for this last 8 weeks! Forward, not Backward!”

Jay,
As I’ve read it there are plenty of historians that believe that there was rampant voter fraud aided and abetted by the mob in Chicago that swayed the 1960 presidential election. Do you deny that this is taken very seriously and likely happened?

Biometrics do two things. It verifies people who are registered to vote. It can also be used to identify foreign nationals who are not eligible to vote.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US-VISIT
Initially, only visitors who required a visa inserted in their passport were included in the US-VISIT program. However, since September 30, 2004, visitors eligible for the Visa Waiver Program have also been required to use the US-VISIT program. Beginning January 18, 2009, most non-U.S. citizens (including lawful permanent residents) are subject to US-VISIT requirements.[5]
The United States and Canada have special agreements for visa-free travel, and currently most Canadians are not subject to US-VISIT. U.S. citizens are not required to be digitally fingerscanned or photographed when they enter United States territory. The Department of State began issuing biometric passports to its citizens in 2006.

Military hardware is supposed to be bought based upon threat assessments floated up from the lower levels, combined with long-term looks carried out by senior leaders. In other words, as the perceived threat changes, strategies and resources allocated should change with them.
I once took a look at the relative share of the DoD research, development, test and engineering; procurement and the maintenance/sustainment appropriations. Guess what? Over a number of years, even thru the huge Reagan defense buildup, the relative share of funds claimed by each of the services was generally within a few points of where it was previously.
In other words, money rolled in and the same share went to each of the services. So guess what’s gonna happen with a couple trillion rolling down the pike?

Sticking up the teller is the the lamest way of robbing, the most obvious, and the easiest way to get caught stealing from a bank. Ditto for in-person voter fraud. There are many less-obvious ways to steal money from a financial institution, with better ways to cover your tracks and get away. Ditto for other types of election fraud.
The GOP voter suppression laws basically prevent non-thinkers from voting fraudulently in person. The rights of other citizens are collateral damage they deem worth it. Whatevs. I’m sure the 80-yr old woman who can’t vote in 2014 because she couldn’t renew the Georgia drivers license she’s had for 50 years — because she can’t find certified copies of both her birth certificate and her marriage license that the Ga DDS will accept — will understand why she’s no longer allowed to participate. In March 2011, White was indicted on seven felony counts including voter fraud, perjury and theft. He is charged with intentionally voting in the wrong precinct in the primary, continuing to serve on the Fishers council and drawing his salary after moving out of town, and lying about his address on a home loan.[7][8] He was released from a Hamilton County jail after posting a $10,000 bond.[5][9]
Shortly after the news broke, Governor Mitch Daniels and Indiana’s other statewide elected officials urged White to step aside while the charges are pending. Conviction on even one charge would have automatically ousted White as Secretary of State; Indiana, like most states, does not allow convicted felons to hold office.[9]
….
On February 4, 2012, a jury found White guilty of six of seven felony charges, including false registration, voting in another precinct, submitting a false ballot, theft, and two counts of perjury. He was acquitted on one fraud charge.[18] The felony convictions automatically removed White from office, though he presumably could have regained the post if his convictions had been downgraded to misdemeanors and Rosenberg’s ruling awarding the office to Osili had been overturned on appeal.[19] Daniels immediately appointed White’s deputy, Jerry Bonnet, as interim Secretary of State.
On February 23, Hamilton County Superior Court Judge Steven Nation sentenced White to one year of house arrest, 30 hours of community service and a $1,000 fine. Nation refused to downgrade White’s charges to misdemeanors, saying that his actions in the 2010 election were deliberate and therefore “violated the trust of the people.” The conviction ends any chance of White regaining office even if his appeal of Rosenberg’s ruling is successful.[20]

I believe there’s a difference between recruiting street people to vote and having the local political machines (both parties) lose ballot boxes, forge ballots, etc.
Voter fraud is voter fraud, but how it occurred back in the days of Nixon and Humphrey (and earlier) is not what all these efforts are designed to ‘fix.’

I did a little math. We have 5,248,095 voters in the state. To move the needle one percentage point would require 52,480.95 fraudulent votes. Just ONE point, so imagine the number it would take to majorly affect the outcome of the presidential election. That would be a monumental task that wouldn’t be worth the probable attention that would be drawn by a major shift in the election outcome. To me, that makes “voter fraud” a ruse that sounds good to the fear-mongers and means little in the end.

a) voter fraud does occur sometimes
b) OMG, voter fraud occurs! Pass laws for ID!
c) Except for absentee ballots, no change in law there
It has been shown already that voter fraud occurs on a much larger scale via absentee ballots, yet the laws are NOT being changed for absentee ballots.
If those making the laws were truthfully concerned about voter fraud, they would go after the larger amount of fraud. However, going after the in-person voter ID route shows that they are after one thing: making it harder to vote for a percentage of a population that may trend democratic.

Debates deliver favorability edge to Romney; now above 50% in rating
BOCA RATON, Fla. — Mitt Romney crossed a major threshold early this week, moving above 50 percent in his favorability rating with voters, according to the Real Clear Politics average of polls — and for the first time in the campaign he now leads President Obama on that measure.
The Republican presidential nominee has clearly benefited from the debates. He had a 44.5 percent favorability rating at the end of September, before the debates. But by Monday, when he and Mr. Obama faced off for the final debate of the campaign, Mr. Romney’s favorability average was up to 50.5 percent.
Tom Jensen, director of Public Policy Polling, a Democratic firm, said Mr. Romney’s favorability surge “really has been remarkable.”

Eighteen percent of American citizens age 65 and above do not have current government-issued photo ID. Using 2005 census estimates, this amounts to more than 6 million senior citizens
The above is an amazing statistic. One a photo ID is required to cash their social secirity checks and two an over whelming number of the over 65 crowd are Republican voters.

I’ve made the suggestion of switching to biometric registration. Since most places are using touch screen electronic voting, I don’t think it would be much of a stretch to add a fingerprint capture mechanism on the actual machine to verify the person voting as someone who’s registered to vote.
Uh, no! You’re familiar with those federal Smart Cards, right Brocepheus? To get one, your fingerprints have to be on file. Well, toward the end of my career, I had to get a new Smart Card password. Part of the requirements for getting a new password is to press your right index finger against the glass so that the computer can read your fingerprint. The computer didn’t recognize mine, and that triggered a prolonged nightmare.
I don’t want any voter to be subjected to that kind of screw-up. It might be just one vote, but it’s an important vote to the person who has it.

It’s common knowledge Dems consider ballot box stuffing a sport. O’bozo himself championed election fraud as a viable tool to power by representing ACORN, the bastion of crooked politics.
Throw in SEIU and the usual union thug intimidators and you have the Dem strategy to victory. They simply can’t get there by extolling their socialist principles.
Just look at O’bozo’s home town of Chicago. Cemeteries are precincts.
Walking around money? Dems pay bums a pack of cigs and a pint of vodka to vote for their pinko of their choice. See Florida, 2000.
Pretty much everyone knows that in a close race, a conservative must win by two or more points to avoid being jobbed by leftie election officials. See Coleman, Norm.

The full-page ad, which ran in USA Today and The Wall Street Journal today and will run in other publications prior to Election Day, is signed by Graham and reads:
‘The legacy we leave behind for our children, grandchildren and this great nation is critical. As I approach my 94th birthday, I realize this election could be my last. I believe it is vitally important that we cast our ballots for candidates who base their decisions on biblical principles and support the nation of Israel. I urge you to vote for those who protect the sanctity of life and support the biblical definition of marriage between a man and a woman. Vote for biblical values this November 6, and pray with me that America will remain one nation under God.’ ”

The Graham family has done a lot of good things for a lot of people around the world for many years. For that they should be commended and recognized.
With that said, I find it strange that last week, just one week after meeting with Romney, Billy and Franklin took the Mormons of of their “cult” list.
If their faith leads them to believe that Mormonism is a cult, why would that change now? Because a Mormon won the Republican primary and could possibly be the next President? Is that faith or political maneuvering?
From what I have read and observed, Billy still meets with and prays with all the Presidential candidates and Presidents (if I am not mistaken). Billy seemed to back off on the outward political affiliations and endorsements after being caught talking about the “Jewish owned and run media” during the Nixon days.
Seems Franklin is more into the political arena, at least in an outward sense.
Again they have done some great things. On one hand, it is a good thing they no longer view Mormonism as a cult. On the other, the timing is dubious at best that they just recently “saw the light”.
Maybe they met with leaders of the Mormon Church and it wasn’t advertised. I would hope that is the case and their mind wasn’t just changed because of Romney. That would lead me to think it was more political than faith driven.
To each their own, but I find it a strange.

HEADLINE (ABC): “How Many Bayonets Does the U.S. Have? Quite A Few”
“The Army said today it has 419,155 bayonets in its inventory. The Marine Corps has another 195,334 bayonets that it bought in 2004 and it plans on buying 175,061 more bayonets this year. A Marine official says it’s not accurate to add the two totals together as the new ones will include replacements for ones already in service as well as additional stocks.”

Of course, we’d need to ensure there’s a secondary system necessary to mitigate issues like that. People, who do manual labor, sometimes wear down the ridges on their fingertips which makes it harder to capture prints. I wouldn’t suggest using that as the single method of registration, but biometrics could be used to combat ID fraud.

A North Georgia county of mostly concerned and paranoid and conspiratorial Republican citizens got wind of the possibility of voter fraud and decided to do some figgering to see what they was up aginst. They found that the county had 10,000 registered voters and that 75% of them had voted Republican in the last election. So, they figgered that they would need to keep real close tabs on those 2500 that were not with them and make sure they didn’t try to cheat them out of their rightful Republican winner. Assuming all 7500 Republicans once again voted for the Republican candidate how may times would the 2500 other voters have to write in the same name of another candidate, given that the Republican candidate runs unchallenged, in order to win?

This 2009 article from the Washington Post Magazine followed a platoon of Marines battling insurgents in Now Zad, Afghanistan. The first words of the article: ”Fix bayonets.”
“Not long after giving that order, 1st Lt. Arthur Karell was hunched in a dirt trench crowded with Marines. The hushed darkness bristled with eight-inch blades fitted beneath the barrels of dozens of M-16 assault rifles.
You fix bayonets when you expect to need the aggressive combat mind-set that’s produced by the primal sight of massed blades. You fix them when you expect to search hidden places. You fix them when you expect the fight could push you within arm’s reach of your enemy — gutting distance. In modern warfare, that’s extraordinarily rare.”

I fully agree with the people pointing out that you are required to have a form of ID for so many things – cashing a check, buying alcohol and tobacco, driving a car, getting on a plane, setting up a bank account, getting a welfare check or foodstamps, enlisting in the military, and on and on.

Last time I checked, whenever you go to vote you already have to prove who you are via identification matching the polling station’s registered voter records or else you had to vote on a provisional ballot. So what if it is or is not via a photo id. You’re only going to get one vote matching one confirmed registered voter in that district. Cons apparently have been cheating for a long time since they are the only ones claiming that many people avoid this rather simple system of checks and balances that has been in place for at least as long as I have been voting.

To summarize, Obama said we have fewer horses and bayonets, not none, which is correct. He further noted that we have aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines, which is also correct. I made no mention of who the Commander in Chief was at the time in my 7:40 post. All I highlighted was the age old game of horseshoes and hand grenades. I know. The rules for both assign points to whomever is closest thus one might ask what’s the advantage of one over the other hence one might then use that logic and apply it to the similar game of bayonets and hand grenades as well. Very few people walk away from said game though with any doubt remaining regarding which choice offers the most advantage, unless of course your position is being attacked by overwhelming numbers by an opposing force that has a numerical advantage and is not afraid to use it. In that case, a game of horse shoes with the enemy may have been the better choice.

Check this out…
How was the News21 public-records effort conducted?
In early May, the News21 team sent public-records requests to each of the 50 departments of elections or secretaries of state across the nation. The team also sent similar requests under the federal Freedom of Information Act to the District of Columbia Board of Elections, the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI. The request was simple: Please send information about any cases since 2000 involving election fraud, including the name of accused, the charges they are accused of and the disposition of the case.
The first hurdle was that every state runs elections in its own fashion, and many states control the election process through different agencies. After extensive follow-up telephone calls and messages, the News21 team began to receive responses. The most common response was a message saying that the election offices don’t track fraud and directing the request to the state attorney general’s office.
In early June, the News21 team sent requests to all 50 state attorneys general. Many of them in turn responded that they don’t track cases of election fraud and that the requests should go to every county district attorney in the state.
There are 3,145 counties in America. News21 emailed, faxed or phoned every county district attorney office in every state that indicated that was necessary, a total of more than 1,000 such contacts. In many cases, offices were contacted more than once in order to get questions answered and details filled in
http://votingrights.news21.com/article/election-fraud-explainer/
Now, this was done in early 2012, and we all know that Republicans run more than half the states in the country. If Republicans were truly concerned about voter fraud, wouldn’t they have some kind of method to track cases?

Bush administration official: 2008 will set record
By ANDREW TAYLOR, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 15 minutes ago
WASHINGTON – A senior Bush administration official says the budget deficit for this year will set a record in dollar terms, approaching $490 billion.
The official said Monday the deficit was being driven to record levels by the sagging economy and the stimulus payments being made to 130 million households in an effort to keep the country from falling into a deep recession. A deficit approaching $490 billion would easily surpass the current record deficit of $413 billion set in 2004.

Consumers’ mood grim in June: survey
Friday June 27, 10:01 am ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) – consumer confidence fell more than expected in June, hitting another 28-year low as surging prices and mounting job losses sapped sentiment, according to a survey released on Friday.
The Reuters/University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers also said five-year inflation expectations remained steady at the peak of 3.4 percent reached in May, which was the highest in 13 years.
Federal Reserve officials have focused on long-term inflation expectations in recent comments and the persistence of strong inflationary pressures heightens the dilemma they face of fighting price growth or supporting a flagging economy.
The Surveys of Consumers said the final June reading for its index of confidence fell to 56.4 from May’s 59.8.
The June reading is the lowest since 51.7 in May 1980, which was also the lowest reading ever. The index dates back to 1952, though the survey has been conducted since 1946.
Economists had expected a reading of 57.0, according to a Reuters poll. Their forecasts ranged from 55.9 to 60.0. The final June result is slightly below the preliminary figure of 56.7 released on June 13.
One-year inflation expectations declined to still-elevated 5.1 percent from May’s 5.2 percent. May’s one-year inflation expectations reading was the highest since 5.2 percent in February 1982.
The index of consumer expectations fell to 49.2 in June — its lowest since May 1980

Stimulus payments result in record May deficit
Wednesday June 11, 2:20 pm ET
By Martin Crutsinger, AP Economics Writer
Economic stimulus payments push May budget deficit to an all-time high of $165.9 billion
WASHINGTON (AP) — A flood of economic stimulus payments pushed the federal budget deficit to an all-time high of $165.9 billion in May.
The Treasury Department reported Wednesday that the May deficit was more than double the imbalance in May 2007, reflecting $48 billion in payments as part of the government’s $168 billion economic stimulus effort to give the economy a jump-start and keep the country from falling into a deep recession.
For the first eight months of the budget year, the deficit totals $319.4 billion, slightly below the all-time record for this period of $346 billion, set in the 2004 budget year.
The Bush administration estimated in February that the deficit for this year would total $410 billion, just below the all-time high in dollar terms of $413 billion in 2004. However, many private economists believe that this year’s deficit will exceed the previous record, reflecting not only the economic stimulus program but also the impact of the weakening economy on government receipts.
Through the first eight months of this budget year, which began on Oct. 1, receipts have totaled $1.67 trillion, a small 0.3 percent increase from the same period a year ago, as both individual tax payments and corporate tax payments have shown the effects of the sluggish economy.
Outlays, however, are up a sizable 9.7 percent to $1.99 trillion, reflecting the stimulus payments and also the ongoing costs of fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The $319.4 billion deficit total for the past eight months is more than double the $148.5 billion deficit for the same period in 2007.

Buffett sees “long, deep” U.S. recession
Sat May 24, 7:30 AM ET
BERLIN (Reuters) – The United States is already in a recession and it will be longer as well as deeper than many people expect, U.S. investor Warren Buffett said in an interview published in German magazine Der Spiegel on Saturday.
He said the United States was “already in recession” and added: “Perhaps not in the sense that economists would define it” with two consecutive quarters of negative growth.
“But the people are already feeling the effects,” said Buffett, the world’s richest man. “It will be deeper and last longer than many think.”
But he said that won’t stop him from investing in selected companies and said he remained interested in well-managed German family-owned companies.
“If the world were falling apart I’d still invest in companies,” he said.
Buffett also renewed his criticism of derivatives trading.
“It’s not right that hundreds of thousands of jobs are being eliminated, that entire industrial sectors in the real economy are being wiped out by financial bets even though the sectors are actually in good health.”
Buffett complained about the lack of effective controls.
“That’s the problem,” he said. “You can’t steer it, you can’t regulate it anymore. You can’t get the genie back in the bottle.”

USMC……. perhaps you have forgotten ?
WASHINGTON (CNN) — A new poll suggests that George W. Bush is the most unpopular president in modern American history.
A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Thursday indicates that 71 percent of the American public disapprove of how Bush his handling his job as president.
“No president has ever had a higher disapproval rating in any CNN or Gallup poll; in fact, this is the first time that any president’s disapproval rating has cracked the 70 percent mark,” said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.
“Bush’s approval rating, which stands at 28 percent in our new poll, remains better than the all-time lows set by Harry Truman and Richard Nixon (22 percent and 24 percent, respectively) but even those two presidents never got a disapproval rating in the 70s,” Holland added. “The previous all-time record in CNN or Gallup polling was set by Truman, 66 percent disapproval in January 1952.”
CNN Senior Political Analyst Bill Schneider adds, “He is more unpopular than Richard Nixon was just before he resigned from the presidency in August 1974.” President Nixon’s disapproval rating in August 1974 stood at 67 percent.
The poll also indicates that support for the war in Iraq has never been lower. Thirty percent of those questioned favored the war while 68 percent opposed the conflict.
“Americans are growing more pessimistic about the war,” Holland said. “In January, nearly half believed that things were going well for the U.S. in Iraq; now that figure has dropped to 39 percent.”
The numbers on the Iraq war come on the five-year anniversary of President Bush’s “mission accomplished” moment onboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, when Bush proclaimed that “major combat operations in Iraq have ended.”
The record low support for the war in a CNN poll could be one reason behind the president’s unpopularity, but it probably is not the only one.
“Support for the war, the assessment of the economy and approval of Mr. Bush are all about the same — bad,” Schneider said.

Dollar plumbs new low versus euro
Concerns about U.S. banking sector drive greenback to record low against the 15-nation euro.
By Kenneth Musante, CNNMoney.com staff writer
Last Updated: July 15, 2008: 8:44 AM EDT
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — The dollar sank to a new all-time low against the euro Tuesday as concerns about the health of the U.S. banking sector and economy deepened.
The 15-nation euro rose as high as $1.6038 in European trading, breaking through its previous high of $1.6018 set April 22. It later pulled back to $1.5992, but remained stronger against the dollar.
The greenback also fell against the Japanese yen, dropping to ¥105.18.

The U.S. consumer sentiment index declined to 62.6 in April — the lowest level in 26 years — from 69.5 in March, according to a Friday report from University of Michigan/Reuters. An earlier estimate for April was 63.2. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch were looking for a final April result of 63.0. “Doggone, my point is not “voter fraud” but more to do with this mythical “voter suppression”.”
But instituting voter ID laws that are not needed CAN have the effect of suppressing the vote, especially this close to an election. So tell us, how much are YOU willing to donate to ENSURE that ALL voters in your state that do not have a picture ID can get one in a timely fashion? Or, since voter registration has passed…how much DID you donate towards that goal?
If there is no real, substantive, voter fraud…and there isn’t…then it’s neccessary to look behind the reason for the sudden push for voter ID. And the ONLY other reason is to STOP SOME PEOPLE FROM VOTING. AKA: voter suppression.
There’s no other valid reason for it.

So Republican’s want a President who made his money by out sourcing American Jobs, because he knows how to fix the economy ?
NEW YORK (AP) — More than 80 percent of Americans believe the country is headed in the wrong direction, the highest such number since the early 1990s, according to a new survey.
Seventy-eight percent of poll respondents said the country was worse off than five years ago.
The CBS News-New York Times poll released Thursday showed 81 percent of respondents said they believed “things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track.” That was up from 69 percent a year ago, and 35 percent in early 2002.
The survey comes as housing turmoil has rocked Wall Street amid an economic downturn. The economy has surpassed the war in Iraq as the dominating issue of the U.S. presidential race, and there is now nearly a national consensus that the United States faces significant problems, the poll found.
A majority of Democrats and Republicans, men and women, residents of cities and rural areas, college graduates and those who finished only high school say the United States is headed in the wrong direction, according to the survey, which was published on The New York Times’ Web site.
Seventy-eight percent of respondents said the country was worse off than five years ago; just 4 percent said it was doing better.
The newspaper said Americans are more dissatisfied with the country’s direction than at any time since the poll’s inception in the early 1990s. Only 21 percent of respondents said the overall economy was in good condition, the lowest such number since late 1992. Two in three people said they believed the economy was already in recession.
Still, the approval rating of President Bush did not change since last summer, with 28 percent of respondents saying they approved of the job he was doing.

“Battleships, aircraft carriers, minesweepers and submarines from 25 nations are converging on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz in an unprecedented show of force as Israel and Iran move towards the brink of war,” reports the London Telegraph. “Western leaders are convinced that Iran will retaliate to any attack by attempting to mine or blockade the shipping lane through which passes around 18 million barrels of oil every day, approximately 35 per cent of the world’s petroleum traded by sea. A blockade would have a catastrophic effect on the fragile economies of Britain, Europe the United States and Japan, all of which rely heavily on oil and gas supplies from the Gulf….In preparation for any pre-emptive or retaliatory action by Iran, warships from more than 25 countries, including the United States, Britain, France, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, will today begin an annual 12-day exercise….The war games are the largest ever undertaken in the region….The multi-national naval force in the Gulf includes three US Nimitz class carrier groups, each of which has more aircraft than the entire complement of the Iranian air force. The carriers are supported by at least 12 battleships, including ballistic missile cruisers, frigates, destroyers and assault ships carrying thousands of US Marines and special forces.”

US Civil Rights Commission report on voter suppression in Florida in 2000 presidential election:
“”"”"”"”"”"”"During the November 2000 presidential election in Florida, restrictive statutory provisions, wide-ranging errors and inadequate and unequal resources in the election process denied countless Floridians the right to vote. The disenfranchisement of Florida’s voters fell most harshly on the shoulders of African Americans. Statewide, based upon county-level statistical estimates, African American voters were nearly ten times more likely than white voters to have their ballots rejected in Florida. On a statewide basis, while African Americans comprised about 11% of all voters in Florida in the November 2000 presidential election, African Americans cast about 54% of the ballots that were rejected in the election. Before and during the election state and county officials were aware of several key factors that ultimately contributed to the disenfranchisement of qualified voters.”"”"”"”"”"”

Study: False statements preceded war
By DOUGLASS K. DANIEL, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 6 minutes ago
WASHINGTON – A study by two nonprofit journalism organizations found that President Bush and top administration officials issued hundreds of false statements about the national security threat from Iraq in the two years following the 2001 terrorist attacks.
The study concluded that the statements “were part of an orchestrated campaign that effectively galvanized public opinion and, in the process, led the nation to war under decidedly false pretenses.”
The study was posted Tuesday on the Web site of the Center for Public Integrity, which worked with the Fund for Independence in Journalism.
White House spokesman Scott Stanzel did not comment on the merits of the study Tuesday night but reiterated the administration’s position that the world community viewed Iraq’s leader, Saddam Hussein, as a threat.
“The actions taken in 2003 were based on the collective judgment of intelligence agencies around the world,” Stanzel said.
The study counted 935 false statements in the two-year period. It found that in speeches, briefings, interviews and other venues, Bush and administration officials stated unequivocally on at least 532 occasions that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or was trying to produce or obtain them or had links to al-Qaida or both.
“It is now beyond dispute that Iraq did not possess any weapons of mass destruction or have meaningful ties to al-Qaida,” according to Charles Lewis and Mark Reading-Smith of the Fund for Independence in Journalism staff members, writing an overview of the study. “In short, the Bush administration led the nation to war on the basis of erroneous information that it methodically propagated and that culminated in military action against Iraq on March 19, 2003.”
Named in the study along with Bush were top officials of the administration during the period studied: Vice President Dick Cheney, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and White House press secretaries Ari Fleischer and Scott McClellan.
Bush led with 259 false statements, 231 about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and 28 about Iraq’s links to al-Qaida, the study found. That was second only to Powell’s 244 false statements about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and 10 about Iraq and al-Qaida.

Romney Says He’s Winning — It’s a Bluff
In recent days, the vibe emanating from Mitt Romney’s campaign has grown downright giddy. Despite a lack of any evident positive momentum over the last week — indeed, in the face of a slight decline from its post-Denver high — the Romney camp is suddenly bursting with talk that it will not only win but win handily. (“We’re going to win,” said one of the former Massachusetts governor’s closest advisers. “Seriously, 305 electoral votes.”)
This is a bluff. Romney is carefully attempting to project an atmosphere of momentum, in the hopes of winning positive media coverage and, thus, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Over the last week, Romney’s campaign has orchestrated a series of high-profile gambits in order to feed its momentum narrative. Last week, for instance, Romney’s campaign blared out the news that it was pulling resources out of North Carolina. The battleground was shifting! Romney on the offensive! On closer inspection, it turned out that Romney was shifting exactly one staffer. It is true that Romney leads in North Carolina, and it is probably his most favorable battleground state. But the decision to have a staffer move out of state, with a marching band and sound trucks in tow to spread the news far and wide, signals a deliberate strategy to create a narrative.

Think, learn, think, think some more….try using a brain (rent one if needed), then think some more…then maybe post if you can do so without lies. And if you actually go back and look at Ohio Law, they didn’t do anything to change when absentee ballots could be mailed in. The change in law was for IN PERSON voting. Military personnel overseas would not have been affected at all by that law, but people who’s early voting time was cut short would have been adversely affected.
To state what you said without even understanding the law is pure jackassery.

I have been voting in GA since 1975. Due to recent health problems, I applied for & received absentee ballots for the last 2 or 3 elections. In order to get those, I had to complete & sign & mail a form to the Board of Elections. Of course, I can’t know how the board decides I am a “legal” voter, except perhaps based on my 30+ years of voting here – with picture id for the last several years – but I am very glad not to have been disenfranchised for ill health. Bottom line: please back off on the absentee ballot voter bashing! Thank you.

I didn’t state it just because of your anti nuke view. If you’re that adamant about it though, what are YOU going to do about it? Are you willing to be the tip of the spear? It’s not stupid at all. How many of our military personnel and contractors have gotten killed in the ME. How many more do you think will die trying to keep Iran from developing nukes? Even if Iran has nukes, they don’t have a delivery system to do anything with them. Once they get a nuke, all they do is put a huge bullseye in the desert over there, and I’m sure there will be plenty of people willing to turn ancient Persia into a Persian glass plate if it’s necessary.

No. I consider it a serious question based upon a person’s view on a foreign policy issue. Unless you already work for the government, how else can you personally effect foreign policy?

It goes like this: if you believe our country should do something, you should probably go do it yourself
Ever hear the phrase “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps”? I was raised up with the idea that if you wanted something, you go and do it. I signed up for the military years ago, but I got rejected because of a bum knee. Had I waited a few years, I could have probably gotten in despite my knee. Instead, I chose to work for DHS.
I’ve seen people struggling here, so my wife and I adopt families for the holidays to provide meals, clothes, and toys so that kids don’t have to go through the holidays without enjoying them as kids should. I’ve even started looking into becoming a foster parent to help those who need it most since I am able to reach out to help someone.
So, forgive me if it sounds dumb to you, but I don’t believe in standing for something and waiting for others to achieve it for me.

You don’t hear me talking in absolutes such as your expression on Iranian nukes, do you? Most times, I generally offer background information based on whatever the discussion is about. If it’s something that I feel strongly about, then I put action with my words. If I discuss things on national security, I have a bit of experience in that area. I have a bit of experience with immigration. I’ve managed retail businesses, and I’ve also worked in foodservice.
You’re being silly because I asked you a serious question. I don’t understand why, but that’s your choice to do so. Sabre rattling towards Iran isn’t going to do anything other than put more military lives at risk. That country is no different than the attention whores who come here looking for people to pay attention to them.
Israel is sitting on 5,000lb bunker busters (GBU-28) that Obama sold them a few years ago. If you think they were sold as tarmac decorations, then you might wanna rethink that. The one thing that hasn’t been acknowledged is whether they are the laser guided variant or the GPS one. If it’s the latter, then Israel has the ability to put multple rounds into the same area which would reach any installation that Iran has. Add the fact that Israel is upgrading their mid-air refueling capability, and it’s easy to see that what you said earlier is already in the works.

Unable to cope with Romnesia McScissorhands’s dwindling chances to ride his anti-women, anti-gay, anti-Latino, anti-middle class, anti-details, anti-facts, anti-consistency campaign to the White House, the right is now attacking Nate Silver for being one of the few commercial media figures to tell the truth about the stability of Obama’s electoral college firewall: Ohio, Wisconsin, Nevada, New Hampshire, and Iowa.
Mainstream media mavens like David Gergen, Wolf Blitzer, Chuck Todd, Piers Morgan, and the entire editorial staff of CNN Online are busy flogging the Romney camp’s preferred ‘Mitt is closing!’ horserace narrative, both downplaying the polls putting Obama ahead in the places he needs to win and ignoring the deep blue wave of early voting in swing states.

Way upthread, RB from Gwinnett told this fib:
The guy I bought a house from recently moved out of the area, so I’m going to take the mail I’m still getting with his name on it down to the polls and see if I can vote for him. With no ID, how would they ever know?
We all know RB’s full of crap, he’s never going to do this, but just for the record:
back in the olden times, when you simply showed up at the polls and said “I’m John Doe, living at Whatchamadinger avenue”, they’d check the registry and look at the signature on file. If it was a match, you voted.
Which is why even if there were no ID requirement in GA, our lying RB from Gwinnett couldn’t actually do what he’s claiming that he’s going to do. Because he has no idea of how this former resident signed his name.

The myth is that there are sufficient numbers of people committing it that a) it would ever affect the outcome of a statewide or national election, and b) such rarities require that we spend goo-gobs of public resources fighting a non-existent problem.
But you know that, don’t you?

Analysis of the resulting comprehensive News21 election fraud database turned up 10 cases of voter impersonation. With 146 million registered voters in the United States during that time, those 10 cases represent one out of about every 15 million prospective voters.

I can never tell in this day and time if the public drives television or the creative minds drive the minds of the public. What I have noticed is we want to believe wrestling is real, these reality shows that have a crisis every ten minutes instead of boring television is not staged, girls want any stranger in a crowd to pick them to win a contest so they can go to bed with him, and cable news, like in the health care decision by the Supreme Court will report the news wrong trying to get viewers. And then the same news centers that can’t get it right themselves will promote any agenda to moves the meter, with no social conscience what so ever. On this stage science becomes the work of the devil, real facts boring, and fat greedy people our heroes. This is the conditional the right wing thrives in.

Republicans need to remember to send their heads along with their photo ID in by mail when absentee voting.

Sorry Jay but conflicts of interest that could lead to a repeat of the 2004 voting fraud in Ohio giving W the election:t
If this year’s presidential election comes down to the electoral votes in Ohio, the deciding votes could be cast on electronic voting machines manufactured by a company – Hart Intercivic – with deep financial ties to the Romney family.
Hart Intercivic is majority owned by H.I.G. Capital which controls two of the five seats on the Hart Intercivic board. An investment fund with deep ties to the Romney family and the Mitt Romney for president campaign, H.I.G. Capital was founded by Tony Tamer, a major bundler for the Romney campaign, and it is one of the largest partners of Solamere Capital, an investment fund founded by Tagg Romney and Spencer Zwick, Mitt Romney’s chief fundraiser from the 2008 presidential campaign. This makes the Romney family part owner of the voting machine company, through it’s interest in H.I.G. Capital.
A 2007 study conducted by Ohio’s Secretary of State showed that Hart Intercivic’s touch screen voting machines could be easily corrupted.
I just signed a petition telling the Department of Justice to not let Republicans steal the election in Ohio with Romney-owned voting machines. Click on the link below to find out more and sign the petition.

In a report issued by the Conservative think tank, the Heritage Foundation in June 2007, which under those conditions to pass an Immigration Reform package will cost over $2.6 Trillion dollars to taxpayers. As an addition the 50 states must follow the rulings of the court to pay for any illegal aliens medical care treatment, the education for their children to k-12, welfare payments for every child, low income housing if they have 3 or 4 extra babies, cash payments and receive without paying into the system over $2.4 Billion dollars annually for child tax credits, even if the child doesn’t reside in the U.S. This is an abomination for every hard working citizen and legal resident and now Obama has admitted a Comprehensive Immigration Reform that will devastate our ailing economy. A conservative amount paid out by just states is somewhere around $113 billion dollars, but this was the projection some years back. Every year it strains the treasuries of each state, so citizens and legal residents must ask themselves what is being taken from their pocket books for taxes to pay for this indignation. ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION drastically and financially effects all Americans—no matter who you are—Hispanic, Black, Caucasian, Asian if you are legally here, as you are paying for the illegal aliens and all those who broke into this nation.
Be very aware that because this election is of the overriding importance to Americas future, Democrats will pull out all stops either intentional or through incompetence backed by the Liberal heavyweights to ignore non-citizens voting in the elections. Overwhelmingly—all prudent Americans voters should be vigilant of anything that looks suspicious in the voting booth or through absentee ballots. The TEA PARTY and TRUE TO THE VOTE will be out in force, to guard against odd situations. Voting illegally is a felony, which can lead to prison. Our nation must retain FAIR ELECTIONS no matter the consequences to either party. The Democrats have requested foreigners from the corrupt United Nations to monitor large metropolitan regions, when the overall majority of voter fraud is within the Democratic Party. In states as California, a liberal Sacramento stronghold with large populations of illegal aliens, which have no restrictions on who is voting? No official picture ID is needed, so anybody can easily vote even, if they are not a citizen. THIS GENERAL ELECTION WILL NEGATIVELY AFFECT ILLEGAL ALIENS, UNLESS PRESIDENT OBAMA GAINS A SECOND TERM. THE PRESIDENTS ABSOLUTE PROMISE TO PRESS FOR COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM—AMNESTY BY ANY OTHER NAME.
Accentuated enforcement: In 1986, the U.S. approved amnesty to some three million illegal immigrants as a quid pro quo for an exclusion on the future hiring of illegal immigrants. The amnesty was granted, but the prohibition on the future hiring of illegal immigrants was never enforced as it is seemingly today. This would repeat the same mistake; mass amnesty if it should be permitted, however the border and employment enforcement provisions of the act would be as likely hollow and will probably never be enforced. In fact funding was cut off to enforce these laws, so that businesses were not held accountable for hiring unauthorized labor. To avoid repeating the mistakes of 1986, enforcement must come first.
Do not grant amnesty: Amnesty is unjust and would be very expensive. Obama Proponents will dispute that there is no feasible alternative to giving citizenship to all the illegal immigrants in the U.S. But serious, phased enforcement of a ban on hiring illegal immigrants would cause many, if not most, illegal immigrants to voluntarily leave the U.S. and return to their native countries. This would definitely be the “Cause and Effect” of the “LEGAL WORKFORCE ACT” nationally known to the public as mandatory E-Verify to minimize economic interference. It could be possible to give some current illegal immigrants temporary work visas, especially in the field of farming, but carefully regulated and with the unequivocal stipulation that they must return home when these visas run out. Such temporary visas would not grant access to welfare, Social Security, Medicare, or citizenship. The farmers should be wholly responsible and not the U.S. taxpayer? If necessary, the exiting illegal workers could be replaced by legitimate temporary workers or by permanent immigrants who have never violated U.S. laws and have been inspected by agents of the government. For the record an estimate of a million legal immigrants are admitted each year, but we should recognize in this global market we should allow a steady stream of the paramount top list of Scientists, Technology, Engineering and mathematicians (STEM WORKERS) who would be highly beneficial to Americas future. What we don’t need are more people with no qualification, no education and adding to our own poverty.
Close the “BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP ” loophole: Under current law, when U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants turn 21, they can petition the government to grant their illegal immigrant parents legal permanent residence, thereby conferring an automatic path to welfare entitlements and citizenship upon the parents (hence the term “anchor baby”). The popular concept of “birthright citizenship”-that anyone born in the United States is automatically a U.S. citizen-is historically and legally imprecise and ought to be corrected by Congress. Despite the consequences, this backdoor path to citizenship for illegal immigrant parents should be closed as this original law was protect slaves after the Civil War. Pregnant mothers, who smuggle their own children into the United States, are the instigators of what has become President Obama’s “Dream Act.” Then again, it’s not the children’s fault, the blame falls like a ton of bricks on the parents as they have caused the massive monetary problems for decades. Learn everything you want to know about the outrageous costs to Taxpayers, the cycle of illegal immigration that never ends and what you the taxpayer voter can restrain this silent invasion at NumbersUSA, Tea Party.org, American Patrol and Judicial Watch.org.
