In Australia, a fiery defense of women in politics

Given some of the comments regarding women in politics in the previous thread, as well as handwringing that perhaps Joe Biden had been a little harsh in his handling of his vice presidential rival in last night’s debate, I thought this speech by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, defending a colleague against charges of sexism, might put both subjects into a slightly better context.

Enjoy.

Gillard’s partner since 2006[143] is Tim Mathieson.[144] She has had previous relationships with union officials Michael O’Connor and Bruce Wilson and fellow Federal Labor MP Craig Emerson.[145] She has never married and has no children.[146][147]

…imagine living in a country where such a person is permitted to have any kind of a national leadership role.

Biden is a doufus and there is no defending him. Like Obama, Biden is all smoke and mirrors- attempting to divert the attention away from Obama’s failed economic recovery and towards class warfare and gender warfare. I’ve got news for you JOE – I knew Jack Kennedy and your comrade Obama ain’t no Jack Kennedy – way, way to the left of all JFK stood for.

oh, another bit from the wiki page, filed under “stuff we won’t allow from our American leaders”–

Gillard was brought up in the Baptist tradition, but is not religious. In a 2010 interview when asked if she believed in God, Gillard stated: “No I don’t … I’m not a religious person … [I'm] a great respecter of religious beliefs but they’re not my beliefs.”

Because even though our Constitution expressly forbids them, we continue to have de facto “religious tests” for our Presidents.

No one who hears Prime Minister Julia Gillard speak could possibly conceive of any man being her superior in her role as Prime Minister. The people of Australia have chosen well, with their representatives, who elected Ms, Gillard as their leader.

Thank you, Jay, for the video presentation which confirms that each human being must never be defined by her/his sex, by his/her race, or by her/his social and wealth status. Who each person is, is innate within each’s mind and spirit and not by externals, and what is contained within each person’s mind/spirit must be perceived as equally worthy to any other human beings simply because all are human. That revelation was the foundational premise upon which this great nation was founded.

RB of Gwinnett had referred to me as “sweetie” and my remarks as “cute” in the prior thread to which Jay referred. RB of Gwinnett owes me an apology for using such condescending and superior language toward me, simply because he did not like my opinions and because he felt he had the “right” to address me as the condescending “sweetie” simply because he was born male. However, I doubt that that apology will ever be forthcoming from him because of his obvious male chauvism, and sexism, if not actual misogynism. We shall see. Perhaps, I will be pleasantly surprised if he is able to “reflect,” as Prime Minister Gillard suggested to the male chauvinist in the Australian Parliament, and thereafter able to demonstrate the class and grace that it would take to recognize how offensive his remarks were to me, and apologize to me for them.

This morning, on the fifth anniversary of the Iraq invasion, ABC’s Good Morning America aired an interview with Vice President Cheney on the war. During the segment, Cheney flatly told White House correspondent Martha Raddatz that he doesn’t care about the American public’s views on the war:

CHENEY: On the security front, I think there’s a general consensus that we’ve made major progress, that the surge has worked. That’s been a major success.

RADDATZ: Two-third of Americans say it’s not worth fighting.

CHENEY: So?

“During the course of Gillard’s prime ministership, a number of Labor Party and Greens Party figures as well as some commentators have sought to attribute various criticism of Julia Gillard to sexism.[116] Former Labor Party advisor Anne Summers said in a 2012 speech that “Gillard “is being persecuted both because she is a woman and in ways that would be impossible to apply to a man”.[117] In reply, journalist Peter Hartcher wrote that, “She was a woman when she was popular; she can’t be unpopular now because she’s a woman. The change is a result of her actions in office, not her gender.”[118] On 9 October 2012, in response to a motion by Tony Abbott to have Peter Slipper removed as Speaker over sexist comments, and in the context of the ongoing Alan Jones shame controversy, Gillard refused to back a move to oust her selection as Speaker, and countered with claims that the Opposition Leader was sexist and that she was personally “offended” by things he had done.[119][120] Given the context of Gillard’s support of Peter Slipper, her response was widely criticised by Australian political observers, with Chris Hartcher writing for a front page Herald opinion piece: “Julia Gillard confronted a stark choice yesterday – the political defence of her parliamentary numbers, or the defence of the principle of respect for women. She chose to defend her numbers. She chose power over principle. It was the wrong choice.”[121]”

By the way: “Gillard does not support legalisation for same-sex marriage in Australia, saying that she believes “the Marriage Act is appropriate in its current form, that is recognising that marriage is between a man and a woman” and that marriage being between a man and woman “has a special status”.[133][127][134]“

Wonder if she could come over here and show these good ole’ boys a thing or two.

Romney, Ryan and Akin are the heart and soul of the Republican party. Everybody but them is a moocher, not a lady, should not have access to birth control because they wouldn’t need it if they were legitimately raped. Romney was for abortion, then he was againt it, before he was for it again. 47 % of people are moochers, including those poor folks in the military and are overseas fighting for our country and those folks who don’t earn enough to put food on the table, much less pay federal taxes. That 47% pay lots of other taxes just not federal taxes. Ohe wait, Romney has changed his mind again, now they aren’t moochers. Ryan wants to blame Obama for shutting down a GM plant that closed before Obama took office, thinks the bailout was a mistake, but did not mind asking for bailout money, then wants to go on record saying no exceptions for abortions even in cases of rape, but smirking that Mr. Romney would be in charge. With Romney’s flip flopping on every issue imaginable, Ryan’s draconian attitude toward women, and Akin’s legitimate rape comment, I cannot imagine how the Republican party expects to be taken seriously. This was the party of Lincoln. What happened?

Feminists always trot out the misogyny card whenever a man with fortitude dares to stand up to them and call them on their ideology of hatred. The truth is that Australia is one of the worlds worst in regards to violations of their male citizen’s rights in regards to marriage, divorce and child custody issues and many of their government officials feel no shame nor restrain themselves from expressing their anti-male sentiments in the oppressive laws they enact and the hateful sexist views they express. They cater to the feminine half of their population to gain political power just as Joe Biden did when he authored the violence against women’s act; that seeks to take away a male defendants right to due process whenever he is falsely accused of a sex crime and gave feminists access to the federal treasury by financing their men are always bad and women are always innocent victims propaganda. in Australia, we take misogynist to mean woman hater. Gillard is known here to be a serial marriage wrecker, she can’t stay away from married men. when challenged on this in interview, she said, “that’s between them and their wives”!!! So her serial and utter disregard for destroying thes women’s lives and that of their families (as they all had young children) is a far more convincing testimony to her misogyny than anything she tries to cause Abbott of. Her life story reflects her utter dishonor when it comes to integrity or actual belief system… Of any kind.
