An off-beat – but very on beat – way to start the party

OK, bear with me, because things are going to start off a little strange this Friday afternoon and evening, but I think you’re going to like it. The group we’re going to feature to get this weekend started is called Staff Benda Bilili.

Here’s how Wikipedia tells their story:

Staff Benda Bilili are a group of street musicians in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They used to live around the grounds of the zoo in the country’s capital city, Kinshasa, and play music which is rooted in rumba, with elements of old-school rhythm ‘n’ blues and reggae. The core of the band consists of four senior singers/guitarists, who are paraplegic (they had poliomyelitis when they were young) and move around in spectacularly customized tricycles. They are backed by a younger rhythm section consisting of abandoned street children who were taken under the protection of the older members of the band. The soloist is an 18 year-old boy (2009) who plays guitar-like solos on an electrified one-stringed lute he designed and built himself out of a tin can. The group’s name translates roughly from Lingala as “look beyond appearances.”

And this is what they sound like:

Sometimes you look around the world and you think that as a species, we can be pretty screwed up. And at other times, you see something like these guys and you think we might be OK after all.

Right on.

And rock on.

Frenetic reggae dinner music with some Paul Simon thrown in for good measure!

And now, I can’t decide what to do. Leaving in a poutrage is so over done, (no offense Bruno), but I’m pretty disappointed in our host here. How he could let that insult to Keep stand is beyond me. I was told it’s not *my* place to make that decision.

I beg to differ. It is the decision of everyone of us who reads and posts here. What are we willing to accept? Many say I I go over the edge, others say I tell it like it is. Yet not even I would tell a poster that his wife was such a ho that not only did I have sex with her but she allowed a photographer in there to take pictures as Steve put it “on top or below.”

In speaking out against that I was banned for a time. Steve had no repercussions for his remarks. Jay decided this, and quite truthfully, you folks here enabled him to make that decision. Calling an asshat an asshat (or hole) is forbidden, telling a poster you did his wife and have pictures is perfectly fine.

I’m too simple to understand this and I think I’ll take some time off to try to sort this out in my tiny little mind. Regardless of the outcome, whether I come back or don’t or if anyone really cares about my dying swan act (I should at LEAST get a nomination for drama queen of the month award), I have learned from all of you, even the asshats and that is a good thing. That was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen. It didn’t take an uppercut to put down some 5 foot girl; especially when he outweighed her by a couple of pounds. so what she pushed him — his punk azz manhood was hurt because of a push?

She MIGHT of had a weapon, or she MIGHT have been pregnant — lots of MIGHTS there. He was angry because she was “talking back” and standing up to him — hence the uppercut. I had NOTHING to do with the push.

His punk azz better hope and pray that this girl doesn’t have anyone to stand up for her — someone who really DOES have a weapon.

“It would be too easy to say that girl is to blame because it was her action that initially opened the door for blackmail. But children don’t always know better and can be easily coerced.”
==================================

Thank you for taking the time to read and view Amanda Todd’s story, Kamchak. I agree with your above words.

I want to say to all that, imo, almost all 15 year olds should not be harshly judged in the “choices” that they make, even in their choice to drop out of school. At that age, most are products of their circumstances, and some don’t always have the most insightful or emotionally strong parents, themselves, to guide them. We should try to nuture and understand, rather than to judge, I think. And, as a society of hopefully caring people, we should try to discourage bullying from happening in any environment.

Parents of the bully must, also, be aware of their children’s actions and help them to understand the destructiveness of their actions not only to their victims, but to themselves. “It takes a village. . .”

Beautiful day today and tomorrow. I hope all will enjoy the weekend.

It’s sad when you see African American conservatives being bashed for supporting Mitt Romney

It’s sad when you see Black Americans being bashed for exercising their freedoms and supporting Democratic candidates. I don’t hear you whining about that bashing though.

if you are African American you’re not required to vote for Obama because he is black.

And nobody, other than ill-informed conservatives ever assert that Black Americans HAVE to vote for Obama either. We Black people already know we don’t have to support anybody because of the melanin content of the basal layer of their epidermis. We just can’t seem to get that through the thick skulls of some of y’all Caucasian Americans that can’t seem to grasp reality.

Had she not spit on and hit the driver, I’d agree with you. Also, I said that things would have been best handled by the driver had he called the police.

It should be a lesson to all parties involved including the people who witnessed the incident. If you don’t know the person, you have no idea of their mental state, their physical abilities/skills, or their thought process. From what I read, I think the girl was drunk, although the news report says she was on her way to work. Dude could be a Vietnam Vet with PSTD and flashbacks.

If somebody goes after that driver because of the girl, then they might wanna ensure that he’s not armed and prepared for such a strike. It’s just best to leave well enough alone at times. That’s why we have a court system.

Uh huh — from her actions that I saw, since it wasn’t posted what happened BEFORE that caused the argument in the first place, this GIRL could be a PTSD survivor. Lots of victims are angry for no reason, restless, can’t coordinate their thoughts, etc. For her to have told a man 3x her size to “Come on!” means that SHE had issues, not so much him. That teacher thingie…it’s been going on a long time, it’s just now getting press. I have a lot to say on that subject, but first, there are some things you just don’t do if you’re in certain professions and particularly those that put you in contact with the young and impressionable.

And the odd thing is that for some reason we’ve been under the impression that it’s not just okay, but a good thing, when it’s heterosexual and female teacher. Having the hots for the teacher is a normal thing for the adolescent. Having the hots for the student is not.

My own experiences back in high school were one thing. But I did learn that it was the ones who went running into the night that I was supposed to emulate when I entered the profession.

An average of polls conducted by the RealClearPolitics website Saturday gave Romney a 1.3 percent lead nationwide, and showed him winning in swing states Florida, North Carolina and Colorado — also targets for Obama.

Obama retains narrow leads in Ohio, Virginia and Iowa but polls in those states since the first presidential debate have shown clear movement towards the Republican.

Police in Denver meanwhile said a shot was fired Friday at an Obama campaign office shattering a window but injuring no one.

A photo posted online showed a window broken at the front of the office. Police said they were searching for a “possible vehicle of interest.”

A detective I am not, but I’m thinking the “vehicle” for the shot was most likely a gun. Sounds like a clear case of a terrorist attack; not a demonstration or protest against a caampaign video. ;-)

No Frog she’s not insane, what she was was “cocky” (pun intended).

She thought she could get away with it.

She’s a teacher, that would put her as an authority-type figure. Those kids saw her as a teacher. She’s breached that authority.

Here’s something you might like to read as a reference:

Women Pushing Boundaries With Teens

One woman just got out of prison for a second time, after being convicted in the statutory rape of a 15-year-old boy whom she eventually married and bore a child with.

And another woman may be heading to jail after allegedly opening up a Pennsylvania hotel room last Friday to a group of teens for what police describe as a sex- and drug-fueled party.

In both cases, the women find themselves in trouble with police for what is considered inappropriate and illegal behavior with minors. But neither woman is saying she is sorry or even offering regret for decisions that led to their respective arrests.

And experts say that it should not come as a surprise that some women do not see why society and law enforcement look unfavorably at adult women who get involved with teenagers. Shades of the infamous Mary Kay Letourneau case, some say.

University is one thing, high school is something else. Arbitrary “cut off”? Perhaps. Now, the age differences between me and the coach was not that wide in terms of years, and I was mature enough to know what I was doing and, yes, take responsibiliy, i.e, discretion. That still does not make it right. So, who was ” to blame?” Me. I started it. I came on to him. But the law wouldn’t even consider that. I wasn’t old enough to ” consent.” had I been over age 18 and he a professor? It would have been the same in substance, now wouldn’t it?

You were NOT to blame! The teacher KNEW it was wrong yet chose to do it anyway. He didn’t have to go through with it, what he should’ve done was told you to get lost, leave him alone, and went home out of harms way.

All of us have been tested — in different ways.

You could find $10K in a bag outside of a dumpster and you are faced with the dilemma of whether to turn it in or use it (your lights are off and your rent is past due).

I never read Dowd at the NYT until she wrote about the neocons in mitt’s foreign policy team.

Sadly, not many writers are writing about neocons so Iraq is the forgotten disaster and doomed to repeat it..

” Ryan ended up simply parroting Senor, who made his name as spokesman for the botched Iraq occupation. That’s a scary thing unless you want to go back to the messianic mind-set of imprinting our “values” in the Islamic world, an attitude that brought us interminable wars and trillion-dollar deficits.

Ryan echoed the bankrupt neocon philosophy of going to war to prevent war. With Iran, he said, the best thing to do is threaten war. “The key is to do this peacefully,” he said, sounding as woolly as Paul Wolfowitz. Ryan didn’t seem to understand what much of the world does: The administration has worked with allies to strengthen sanctions, which have turned Iran into an economic basket case.

Biden also boxed Ryan into looking as though he wants to send more American troops to Afghanistan and to intervene in Syria, which isn’t so appealing to war-weary America.

Ronald Reagan knew how to bluster for peace. Neocons do not. When they run the show, threatening a war is followed by going to war and that is followed by bollixing up the war and that is followed by our troops’ dying at war and money-pit nation-building to end the war, and that is followed by economic disaster for America.” Dowd NYT.

Missoula, Montana (CNN) -– As the nation wrestles over who will occupy the White House for the next four years, Montana is in the midst of a fierce battle over 100 years worth of campaign finance law. And what happens in the Treasure State could set the tone for the future of campaign funding around the country.

On Election Day, voters in Montana will decide on a ballot initiative that would direct each of their elected officials to push for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The amendment would allow states to ban corporate funding of campaigns and set sharp limits on the money individuals can donate to candidates.

It is a test of government control over campaign spending versus corporate influence over candidates.

For a century, Montana has had some of the toughest limits on campaign funding in the country. That has its origins in the 19th century when copper barons openly bought politicians and ran mining operations that left pollution and scars across the state. Outcries led to sweeping reform, including a ban on corporations funding campaigns in the state.

That ban was overturned 100 years later, in June, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Montana’s law limited free speech rights of corporations, pointing to the court’s earlier decision in Citizens United.

Now a group called “Stand with Montanans” fears that, without a Constitutional amendment, well-heeled mining corporations can again take over the state’s government.

…When you can read minds like keep up can and have his omniscience to know the intentions of many wealthy people you can make crazy ass blanket statements like that.

I guess the “crazy ass” is the ignorance of a poster who makes claims about mind reading while demonstrating their ignorance:

For decades, surveys have shown that upper-income Americans don’t give away as much of their money as they might and are particularly undistinguished as givers when compared with the poor, who are strikingly generous. A number of other studies have shown that lower-income Americans give proportionally more of their incomes to charity than do upper-income Americans. …

But in the larger context of “the psychological culture of wealth versus poverty,” says Paul K. Piff, a Ph.D. candidate in social psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, the paradox makes sense. Piff has made a specialty of studying those cultures in his lab at the Institute of Personality and Social Research, most recently in a series of experiments that tested “lower class” and “upper class” subjects (with earnings ranging from around $15,000 to more than $150,000 a year) to see what kind of psychological factors motivated the well-known differences in their giving behaviors. His study, written with Michael W. Kraus and published online last month by The Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, found that lower-income people were more generous, charitable, trusting and helpful to others than were those with more wealth. They were more attuned to the needs of others and more committed generally to the values of egalitarianism. …

a 2007 report from the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University found that only a small percentage of charitable giving by the wealthy was actually going to the needs of the poor; instead it was mostly directed to other causes — cultural institutions, for example, or their alma maters — which often came with the not-inconsequential payoff of enhancing the donor’s status among his or her peers

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes reported today on another CEO — Arthur Allen of ASG Software Solutions — who said in an email to his employees that they’d only have themselves to blame if they lose their jobs if Obama wins.

What an idiot….. ASG already has serious issues and defections. So this clown CEO wants to blame Obama for his failures since it is likely the company won’t survive anyway.

Watching Felix Baumgartner jump from 128,000 feet today was one of the most exciting things I have seen in a long time (even with the 20 second delay). I have to admit that I was concerned when he appeared to be spinning out of control through the stratosphere due to its low air density which offerred him absolutely no control on his trajectory. With so much that is wrong nowadays we still have people like this that show us the human spirit survives. Since America’s space program has now been gutted by Obama I guess private funding for these types of things is the way forward and that is probably as it should be. The suit that Baumgartner wore will now be studied as part of an escape package for future astronaunts. Innovation lives in the human imagination and the private sector is only place that has the freedom (free from the chains of un-ending governemt beaurecracy and government inefficiency) to promote things such as happened today. It was a proud day for all of those involved.

WASHINGTON — Spending cuts President Bush proposed for NASA science projects will cause far more harm than the administration has acknowledged, top scientists warned a congressional panel Thursday.

If it passes, the Bush budget will turn out the lights on a whole generation of young scientists and researchers, said Joseph Taylor Jr., a Princeton University physics professor.

….

The Bush administration budget request provides $3.1 billion less for science through 2010 than was promised in last year’s spending request.

The Obama administration has officially decided to end the Constellation mission back to the moon, although the replacement plan faces a tough route through Congress.

The new plan, which had been rumored for months, was announced today with the release of the Obama administration’s NASA budget request, which despite the axing of the moon plan delivers a $6 billion funding increase over the next five years.

If you look at the historical funding of NASA, their funding reached it’s peak in 1991-1992 and has been steadily dropping ever since. If you look at who’s been in control of the purse since then, the House has been (D) 1991-1994, (R) 1995-2006, (D) 2007-2010, and (R) since 2011. He who controls the purse strings controls NASA funding. Since NASA reached it’s funding peak in recent history, Republicans have been in the driver’s seat a bit longer.

Romney Proudly Explains How He’s Turned Campaign Around

Boston AP, “Romney has pulled even with President Obama, and the former Massachusetts governor credits his rejuvenated campaign to one, singular tactic: lying a lot.

“I’m lying a lot more, and my lies are far more egregious than they’ve ever been,” a smiling Romney told reporters while sitting in the back of his campaign bus, adding that when faced with a choice to either lie or tell the truth, he will more than likely lie. “It’s a strategy that works because when I lie, I’m essentially telling people what they want to hear, and people really like hearing things they want to hear. Even if they sort of know that nothing I’m saying is true.”

“It’s a freeing strategy, really, because I don’t have to worry about facts or being accurate or having any concrete positions of any kind,” Romney added.

It was interesting to read their comments on the Islamacists. There is a widespread belief that they’ve had enough of the preachers telling them how to be good Muslims, noting that the Libyans are “already good Muslims.”

I had thought at first that if there was a chance for success out of the Arab Spring, it would be Tunisia. It looks more like Libya, if they can just get through these first trying days of building up their institutions and the West will just be patient.

Wall Street is recovered? Try telling that to Bear Stearns. Depends on what you mean by recovered. Stock prices are going higher. Is that what you mean? I was watching CNBC a few weeks ago when they announced QE3. Stock market was up huge that day. Why? Because of QE3. The analysts were saying all this money printing is good for stocks because all that freshly printed money has to go somewhere and it will go into stocks. In other words its just an illusion. Looks like we may be creating another price asset bubble similar to the housing fiasco which is going to have a day of reckoning sooner or later.

Cons for the most part understand that the reason real incomes have fallen nearly 9% in the last 4 years is due to QEs 1 and 2. We understand this. How many liberals do you honestly think understand that?

Judging by the conversation that several of us cons had on here a few weeks ago regarding QE3 it was clear from a lack of input from the liberals on here that they simply don’t understand what’s going on. But they sure understand catchy bumper sticker sloganeering like “trickle down economics” which isn’t even a real economic philosophy.

This freefall that Dems seem to think that O saved us from has taken on quite a life of its own. It doesn’t jive with the facts. The fact of the matter is that jobs losses had already bottomed out in Jan. when O came into office. And the recession ended a mere 6 months later. The worst of the recession was under W’s watch. As for saving the financial institutions TARP was started under W as the liberals have pointed out numerous times when it suits their argument. As for the stimulus it seems to me that it was unnecessary. It was put in as the recession was ending and as the economic and employment data verified things were getting better before and as Obama was coming into office. This idea that he “saved” the U.S. economy is a piece of fiction when lined up against the economic facts.

It wasn’t race. If you go back and look, most of the Black support in the primaries went to Clinton. Obama didn’t begin to pick up support from the Black community until later in the race. Many Blacks originally didn’t think Obama had a snowball’s chance in hell of getting the nomination. Add that, and the admiration that Black America has for Bill Clinton, and it’s much easier to see why Clinton had the early support. Blacks didn’t give Obama a second thought until after Iowa, when Whites overwhelmingly went with Obama over Clinton.

Brocephus,

And in my fantasy world I suppose a white Dem candidate would have won over a corruption ridden candidate like say Marion Barry or Kwame Kilpatrick huh? I never said that blacks vote exclusively based on color btw. But I’m sure some of them given the chance will vote for the black guy just cause he’s black. Just as some whites will vote for a white guy for the same reason.

But I do see numerous examples of con blacks winning in white con districts, the black female mayor of Salt Lake City Mia Love, Allan West, JC Watts, and others. And Herman Cain was making a serious move in the R primaries before the sex allegations came up. Now maybe I am mistaken but I don’t see too many white Dems that have been voted in over black Dems in heavily majority black cities or congressional districts. I’m sure they probably exist. I just don’t know of any.

As for gas your paying twice as much as 4 years ago

Let’s take a closer look at that statement….

Now, this isn’t exact to the date, but it’s within a week of the 4 year timeline, and within 2 weeks of today.

http://news.consumerreports.org/cars/2008/10/gas-prices.html

October 6, 2008
Regular gasoline/gallon
Price: $3.48 Down .15 from previous week

http://news.consumerreports.org/cars/2012/10/average-gas-prices-oct-1-2012.html

October 1, 2012
Regular gasoline/gallon
Price: $3.80 Down .02 from previous week

Given, those are national averages, but they are far from anywhere near prices being twice as much as 4 years ago. One simply has to look at the calendar and count 4 actual years to debunk that idea. Four years ago October, the stock market crashed and we really began to see the bottom falling out. October 2008 was the second month of 400,000 plus jobs lost too.

That’s why the whole 4 year ago argument is bull. Four years ago, Bush was still in charge and we had no idea of how bad things were about to get as the bottom was just falling from below our feet.

And everyone knows that with all the money printing and QE that inflation means that oil and gas prices are going to be higher under this president. How someone doesn’t recognize that is beyond me. And everyone knows that stopping or slowing down new drilling projects is going to lessen supply and hence raise gas prices. Well not quite everyone. That supply and demand thing just escapes a few of em. And everyone knows that when W lifted the moratorium on drilling that the price of a barrel of oil dropped $10 overnight.

Probably one of your best posts. If we invested our resources into education of those who are in need, we would go a long way toward getting our house in order. The playing field is not level. And that is what many of the have nots in our society rail on about. But it also takes drive, determination and a dedication to succeed that is difficult to achieve with those that need it most. I remember numerous residents in training where the lack of confidence in what they could do was severely lacking. Most of them never had a mentor that took them by the hand and guided them to succeed. We are ignoring the very asset that we need the most to maintain our continued success….. our young people. Anyone with the knowledge to run a gang on the South side of Chicago and manage to run a multi-million dollar business in drug trafficking could do most anything they want in life if just given the guidance and opportunity to do it. White Democrats opposed to new legislative districts designed by Republicans said they will turn the Legislature into a body of white Republicans and black Democrats.

The Legislature’s special session on redistricting opened Thursday with the Republican-dominated reapportionment committee voting along party lines to recommend districts that House and Senate committees will consider Friday.

House Minority Leader Craig Ford and Senate Minority Leader Roger Bedford said the recommended districts appear designed to get rid of several of the 18 white Democrats in the Legislature either by making their districts more Republican or by combining the white Democrats into districts with veteran black Democratic incumbents.

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2010/11/04/election_nearly_wipes_out_white_southern_democrats/

WASHINGTON—The white Southern Democrat — endangered since the 1960s civil rights era — is sliding nearer to extinction.

After this week’s elections, the Democratic Party barely holds a presence in the region outside of majority-black urban areas such as Atlanta and Memphis. The carnage for the party was particularly brutal in the Deep South, where just one white Democrat survived across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina.

The Republicans’ effort to win over the South, rooted decades ago in a strategy to capitalize on white voters’ resentment of desegregation, is all but complete.

“Right now in most of Dixie it is culturally unacceptable to be a Democrat. It’s a damn shame, but that’s the way it is,” said Dave “Mudcat” Saunders, a campaign strategist for conservative Democrats such as Jim Webb of Virginia, one of the few remaining Southern Democratic senators.

The losses were particularly disappointing for the party after the baby steps it made in the South in 2006 and 2008, when it picked up a host of Republican-leaning House districts and won Senate seats in North Carolina and Virginia. Many thought the party had learned its lessons and had begun to reverse recent history by nominating conservative candidates who hit the right notes on divisive social issues such as abortion and smaller government.

None of it mattered Tuesday.

Democrats didn’t just see most of their recent gains obliterated, they lost at least 19 Southern House members and a senator, Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas. Even some of the most conservative Democrats such as four-term Rep. Jim Marshall of Georgia and 10-term Rep. Gene Taylor of Mississippi couldn’t withstand the wave. It also snared such veterans as John Spratt of South Carolina, the 14-term chairman of the House Budget Committee, and 14-term Rep. Rick Boucher of Virginia.

When the new Congress convenes in January, there will be at most 16 white Southern Democratic House members out of 105 seats in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, the Carolinas, Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky. Two races in Virginia and Kentucky were still too close to call, so the total could be as low as 14.

My point exactly. I remember one of my kids several years ago who was, let’s just say an IQ over the 150 range and street wise, already at age 8 targeted as a future leader by the criminal class (i.e. the Kennedys :-) ) I was trying to teach him about the stock market, investments, red-black in the ledger books and what have you. Anyway, his Mama came to talk to me and put it this way, “I don’t delude myself that he’s not going to be a criminal. I just want him to be a Fortune 500 corporate raider, not a street corner drug pusher.”

Today? Oddly enough the little snot nose went on to become a policeman and is now a detective. His car and house out in the suburbs? Well, he didn’t get it from his public sector paycheck. I guess I ought not to take so much pride in having taught him the lessons in how to launder money. JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Republican redistricting plan for the Mississippi House would increase black majority districts at the expense of white Democratic lawmakers.

The plan, released Wednesday and approved by the House Elections Committee, could come to a vote as soon as Thursday. A Senate plan has yet to be released.

“It’s fair and it complies with the law,” said Reapportionment Committee Chairman Rep. Bill Denny, R-Jackson. The chairman of the Joint Reapportionment Committee read his statement word-for-word in three separate meetings Wednesday. He said districts are more tightly drawn and that fewer counties and precincts are split.

House Republicans, who gained control of the body for the first time this year, could increase their 64-58 margin if their plan is approved. However, legislative redistricting is already under challenge in a federal lawsuit and Democrats indicated they would introduce their own plan on the floor of the House.

The GOP tilt is obvious in the three pairs of white Democratic incumbents who could be forced to run against each other in the next state election, as well as the white Democrat drawn into a Republican district. But efforts to snuff out what was once Mississippi’s dominant political species run deeper.

The plan divides Mississippi’s voters into 79 districts that have a voting-age population that’s less than 35 percent black, and 42 districts whose voting-age population is more than 50 percent black.

A Republican plan to re-draw district lines in South Carolina attempts to squeeze out certain white Democrats and increase the number of Republicans in the state Senate from 27 to 31.

If it works, the plan would create a filibuster-proof majority among Republicans in the upper chamber.

….

The apparent strategy is to consolidate Democratic districts together, thus pushing one Democratic senator out of each. For instance, the plan would put Sheheen in the same district as Fairfield County Democrat Creighton Coleman.

….

Another strategy appears to be to make Democratic Senate districts lean more Republican by shifting district lines, such as in the case of Horry County’s Dick Elliot and Sumter’s Phil Leventis.

The six Democrats representing the districts at issue are white.

We all want the environment and people to be safe but it shouldn’t take that long and be that damn difficult dealing with the govt just to get one damn plant built. Its ridiculous.

I see what you’re saying but neither you nor I nor the govt can enforce our view of how many jobs they should create. You can’t make someone create a job when there’s no work to do. If and when they feel the economy is picking up and they have the demand for more work they will in fact hire. But it doesn’t seem they have that confidence in the economy under this president.

Mitt spoke at the NAACP this year.

The NAACP doesn’t speak to all Black Americans, nor do all Black Americans belong to or embrace the message.

The students openly disrespected him by closing their eyes, staring at the floor, rolling their eyes, showing total disinterest.

As with the NAACP, students don’t represent ALL of urban America Doom. Blaming one segment for everybody is pretty weak, even for you.

As long as the background noise coming from the Right is one that is unwelcoming for the average Black person, you won’t get Black support. I’m not talking about candidates either. When you have people, like Ann Coulter rewriting history and getting kudos for doing so, you basically spit in the face of those who actually do know the history of this country.

When supporters label people as leeches and other stuff, you’re not going to get support from the community.

After that the Rs pretty much just realized it was a waste of time for the most part. You can’t make someone hear who refuses to listen to you.

And so, the whining will continue on because of the defeatist attitude of Conservatives. If Black support was something they truly wanted, they wouldn’t be such pansies and give up so quickly. Making token gestures simply to reinforce stereotypical beliefs don’t help out much.

Are you freaking kidding me? There are wayyyyyyyy too many white people to blame for the problems of the world before we even get to black people.

Need I remind you of how hard you wanted to argue me about percentages of populations on welfare when I brought up the point to you a ways back that there were more Whites on welfare than Blacks? When I pointed that out and that Whites cost more in welfare dollars, you kept going back to the point that as a percentage to population, there are more Blacks on welfare.

You keep telling yourself that. You make so many different arguments here that I honestly don’t think you remember half the stuff you say. You’ve done the very thing that you say is waaaaaaayyyyyyy down the list. I don’t tend to forget those kinds of things. If I knew exactly where to find those statements, I’d pull them up right now just to see you try to wiggle your way out of it.

Rush Limbaugh already proposed that law regarding fining and penalizing volcanoes for emitting all that sulfur dioxide and other greenhouse gasses into the air. To date the volcanoes are refusing to be regulated. They’re an ornery bunch.

The ocean floor also needs to be regulated for all the oil and gas emissions that it emits into the ocean. We just got to figure out a way to get down there and regulate and fine it.

If the job creators cannot commit to creating jobs (that will lead to more taxes being paid by new hires to help offset the loss of tax revenues from the job creators) in exchange for more tax cuts, then we are better off collecting the taxes and using that money to pay for things like the debt and the military, etc. Cuts will not pay off the debt and fund the very things that the job creators want funded as well.

A Chart. Maybe Bookman will use it tomorrow, and then, maybe not. And all the while, Al Gore has enriched himself while NOT practicing the things he demands of others, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Global warming stopped 16 years ago, reveals Met Office report quietly released… and here is the chart to prove it

The figures reveal that from the beginning of 1997 until August 2012 there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures
This means that the ‘pause’ in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996

…The new data, compiled from more than 3,000 measuring points on land and sea, was issued quietly on the internet, without any media fanfare, and, until today, it has not been reported.

This stands in sharp contrast to the release of the previous figures six months ago, which went only to the end of 2010 – a very warm year.

Ending the data then means it is possible to show a slight warming trend since 1997, but 2011 and the first eight months of 2012 were much cooler, and thus this trend is erased.

Others disagreed. Professor Judith Curry, who is the head of the climate science department at America’s prestigious Georgia Tech university, told The Mail on Sunday that it was clear that the computer models used to predict future warming were ‘deeply flawed’.

Even Prof Jones admitted that he and his colleagues did not understand the impact of ‘natural variability’ – factors such as long-term ocean temperature cycles and changes in the output of the sun. However, he said he was still convinced that the current decade would end up significantly warmer than the previous two.

Left unstated in this piece, is that having absolutely no sense of shame (and thus lowering any expectations of same from your constituency) is a great political advantage, so it’s kind of stupid to imagine anything changes because the editorial board at the Gray Lady wag their fingers at you.

Still, it’s a good piece, pretty much my take as well.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/15/opinion/republicans-have-no-shame.html?_r=0

There are many unanswered questions about the vicious assault in Benghazi last month that killed four Americans, including Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. And Congress has a responsibility to raise them. But Republican lawmakers leading the charge on Capitol Hill seem more interested in attacking President Obama than in formulating an effective response.

It doesn’t take a partisan to draw that conclusion. The ugly truth is that the same people who are accusing the administration of not providing sufficient security for the American consulate in Benghazi have voted to cut the State Department budget, which includes financing for diplomatic security. The most self-righteous critics don’t seem to get the hypocrisy, or maybe they do and figure that if they hurl enough doubts and complaints at the administration, they will deflect attention from their own poor judgments on the State Department’s needs.
