Liveblog: Biden, Ryan ready to rumble

UPDATE: 9:05 On a question about the Libyan attack, Biden does well, diverting it into the larger security question. Ryan handles his part ably as well, although this “weakness.”

Whoa… the malarkey card: “Everything he said is a bunch of malarkey,” says Biden. And then backs it up. A good, strong exchange, although Ryan comes across as a bit unseasoned.

UPDATE: 9:15 Ryan takes a hard, but unrealistic, line on Iran. He sounds like he’s repeating rehearsed lines, Biden sounds like he comprehends the issue.

Biden’s forcefulness working for him very well.

I wonder if President Obama is taking notes.

9:26: “We’re going in the wrong direction,” says Ryan. I don’t think that’s going to sell. “It’s late evening in America”?

Raddatz doing well as moderator, but I think the forum is easier. Sitting there at the table gives her more control. It’s a good exchange.

9:34 Medicare and Social Security. I think Joe just hit a home run on Medicare with seniors, which is his target audience on this topic.

Although Ryan is right about Biden interrupting.

9:50 Biden carrying the argument with a combination of passion and detail.

10:00 I don’t think Ryan/Romney’s argument for sticking in Afghanistan gets them anywhere. That time is past.

Ryan failed on Afghanistan, but it’s not necessarily his fault. The vague Romney position on Afghanistan, suggesting he’d stay longer, is just hard to defend after more than a decade of U.S. blood.

10:28 Ryan has held his own; he did a good job with what he was given. But this is a Biden victory. It’s not a slam dunk; it won’t alter the race much. But Biden’s conviction carried the day.

It may and should serve as a template for his boss. An interesting endnote: I don’t recall a veep debate in which the tops of the ticket, Romney and Obama in this case, were mentioned so seldom.

————————

Among other things, it’s going to be interesting to see how successful Joe Biden is in handcuffing Paul Ryan to the ardently conservative positions that he championed before joining the ticket, and how willing Ryan will be to slough off that identity in service of the newly moderate Mitt Romney.

Not to mention Biden’s proclivity for foot-chewing.

I just wonder how Ryan is going to defend the voucher program for Medicare since Romney says he won’t reduce it?

How many elderly can understand how to use them?

Is he going to start a gov’t agency to advise the elderly?

If so, how will those people be monitored so they aren’t BOUGHT by big health.

My bet; Ryan says “yeah, I came up with all sorts of ideas, Joe, because you and your boss wouldn’t. But now I’m the vice presidential candidate and you should know it’s not about me, it’s about the policy Gov Romney sets. Okay, so you’ve tried to set policy yourself a time or two and look how that worked out. So this is my policy: as Gov Romney has stated since his nomination (blah blah blah).”

Just as Mitt did to the worst president in moder times, Paul Ryan will destroy Joe Biden’s liberal lies using the one weapon he can’t handle—the truth.

Biden’s the consummate fake; literally and figuratively He has had eye lifts, face lifts and hair plugs for years due to the same cognitive illness that plagues all scumbag liberals: insecurity, delusions, and feelings of inadequacy. Shoot, his own daughter just married his plastic surgeon!

Love to hate? That twerp can’t carry his jockstrap.

The guy is an outstanding American and human being.

On December 18, 1972, a few weeks after the election, Biden’s wife and one-year-old daughter were killed in an automobile accident while Christmas shopping in Hockessin, Delaware. Neilia Biden’s station wagon was hit by a tractor-trailer as she pulled out from an intersection; the truck driver was cleared of any wrongdoing. Biden’s two sons, Beau and Hunter, were critically injured in the accident, but both eventually made full recoveries.

Biden considered resigning to care for them; he was persuaded not to by Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield and others and was sworn in to office from one of their bedsides. The accident left Biden filled with both anger and religious doubt: “I liked to [walk around seedy neighborhoods] at night when I thought there was a better chance of finding a fight … I had not known I was capable of such rage … I felt God had played a horrible trick on me.”

To be at home every day for his young sons, Biden began the practice of commuting every day by Amtrak train for 1½ hours each way from his home in the Wilmington suburbs to Washington, D.C., which he continued to do throughout his Senate career. In the aftermath of the accident, he had trouble focusing on work, and appeared to just go through the motions of being a senator. In his memoirs, Biden notes that staffers were taking bets on how long he would last.

A single father for five years, Biden left standing orders that he be interrupted in the Senate at any time if his sons called. In remembrance of his wife and daughter, Biden does not work on December 18, the anniversary of the accident.

Put that “I sleep in my office” Mr. Congressman…

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/09/libya-consulate-attack_n_1951910.html

ABC News has obtained an internal State Department email from May 3, 2012, indicating that the State Department denied a request from the security team at the Embassy of Libya to retain a DC-3 airplane in the country to better conduct their duties.

Copied on the email was U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, who was killed in a terrorist attack on the diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya, Sept. 11, 2012, along with three other Americans. That attack has prompted questions about whether the diplomatic personnel in that country were provided with adequate security support.

No one has yet to argue that the DC-3 would have definitively made a difference for the four Americans killed that night. The security team in question, after all, left Libya in August

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/10/email-shows-state-department-rejecting-request-of-security-team-at-us-embassy-in-libya/

WASHINGTON, Oct 9 (Reuters) – A U.S. security officer formerly stationed in Libya has told lawmakers he sent two cables to the State Department requesting more security agents for the American mission in Benghazi but received no response.

The officer, Eric Nordstrom, also said that a State Department official, Charlene Lamb, wanted to keep the number of U.S. security personnel in Benghazi “artificially low,” according to a memo summarizing his comments that was obtained by Reuters.

I thought Biden got off to a pretty good start. But as debate has gone on, I’m reminded of the 162 game season in major league baseball and what that meant pre wild card days. The slogan “the cream rises to the top” would often be applied to that 162 game season. What that meant was that over a long 162 game season, the best team would win out in the end. And I think that applies to the debate tonight. Whereas Biden got off to a small lead out of the gate and stayed competitive for the first half of the debate, Ryan systematically picked up steam and I thought clearly overtook Biden in cumulative substance and effectiveness. Biden’s constant laughing and smirking and interrupting got tiring and I think that will remind some of Gore’s obnoxious performance against Bush in the fist debate in 2000. Should be interesting how the liberal media tries to spin the debate.

I appreciate your frustration. Things are not what you’d hoped. The current climate is not what you need. But look at it this way: shrinkage vs. growth. The economy was shrinking fast. Shrinkage stopped. (Whew!) Growth began. Yes, it’s slow, but it’s growth. If you can’t fly back up the mountain, you have to climb it one step at a time. There’s no magic jet pack, Hon. No quick fix. But that does not mean we can’t get back up it. It just means it’s going to take longer and be harder than we thought. Growth is good, so keep pushing, and don’t let it keep you down, okay? A return to the policies that shoved us off the cliff… probably not the best solution. Hang in there!

Biden laughs, behaves like an idiot, but that is typical Joe. Ryan was cool, reserved, as is typical Ryan.

Would be a tie at best, however, since Biden couldnt derail Ryan. Ryan held his own against Biden, hence, win by default for Ryan.

I could see people thinking Joe won the debate by a slight edge if he hadn’t been so rude and out of control. If you go by the transcript its even or Biden wins very slightly. But if you saw it and saw Biden who was completely without composure then you have to give it to Ryan. (1) Ryan’s lack of depth of understanding regarding foreign affairs is troublesome.

(2) Biden is correct that middle class people having to pay more than $2000. more a year in the Romney/Ryan tax plan when they are just getting by is too much for them to have to absorb – especially when they must exist on lower incomes in the financial framework of the nation.

(3) Biden was wise to point out that if Romney/Ryan win this election, then 2 more Supreme Court Justices would probably be selected which would probably undo Roe vs. Wade. A woman must have the right to make her own decisions regarding abortion and birth control – which will effect her life in profound ways – with doctor, her partner, and her God/conscience. Overall, as Jay wrote, Ryan did hold his own, but, in my opinion, he came off more scripted than knowledgeable. Biden spoke more directly and intimately but came off a little overbearing, especially in the beginning. Overall probably an edge to Biden. But it was 1000% more entertaining than the Presidential debate that was so policy wonky I would have fallen asleep if I hadn’t been doing laundry.

So what was it bad or good Ryan ?

After Bush the Republican’s implosion of the US housing market, job market, starting two wars without a meaningful way to pay for any of it…..cause “deficits don’t matter ” with guys like Romney making Millions after tossing American jobs over seas and playing Gordon Gekko…

All of a sudden Romney is a job creator ? HA HA HA. In India ???? Where ?????

If you had an investment account, what was it worth after the Bush years? Looked good until about the middle of ‘08 and probably bled out over half its value. Just look at home values alone. My house, a modest 3/2 about 25 years old, lost 40k in value in one year. Yeah, those Bush years were great. Gas, btw, was over $3 a gallon in Georgia by ‘07 (that’s the year I bought the Honda 4 cyl.) and is about where it was then. You can check on gasbuddy.com and find several charts that will show you the up and down for up to 8 years. The only nice fall in prices was late in ‘08 after the economy tanked.

Looks like the liveblogging here was fun, maybe I should’ve been here to paaahty as well, but…

anyway, one thing I haven’t seen from the comments worth mentioning–

I get the impression, most of the time that I see Joe Biden out in public, either stumping, or debating, or whatever–is that he’s enjoying this a great deal. And I think that’s a central part of his appeal; people like to watch performers who are, themselves, having a good time doing what they’re doing.

Ryan did a reasonable job holding his own, but I think Biden helped his side more, last night.

The Joe Biden Workout

October 12th, 2012
6:19 am

Biden’s performance was aimed at one thing: painting the Romney and Ryan agenda as a flim-flam operation. He did it with style as much as substance. Looking directly at the camera, he said, “folks, follow your instincts,” in the middle of an argument about whether Romney’s tax plan added up. Before the debate, a Romney staffer had said one of the things that had worked well for the GOP nominee a week ago was that while voters may not have understood his policy ideas, he sounded like he understood them, which gave viewers confidence in the candidate. Biden was trying to make the same kind of transference. If he could convey exasperation and frustration with Ryan’s lack of specificity, the plans that didn’t add up, and the broader claims from the Republican team, perhaps he’d be able to make people doubt the entire Republican enterprise.

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2012/10/vp_debate_joe_biden_tried_to_re_energize_democrats_with_his_attacks_digs.html

Energized the Democrat Base

October 12th, 2012
6:21 am

Biden won the debate, but it was a qualified victory. He energized Democrats who had been down in the dumps since the president’s supine performance, but he also energized Republicans who found him rude and dishonest. Swing voters might have been turned off, too. But it probably doesn’t matter since they’re going to vote for the top of the ticket. It was close in the post-debate polls of undecided voters. In a CBS poll, 50 percent thought Biden had won; only 31 percent thought the same of Ryan. In the CNN poll, 48 percent thought Ryan won. Only 44 percent thought Biden came out on top.
There’s an old line attributed to Bill Clinton: It’s hard for the other guy to talk when your fist is in his mouth. Biden was up to his elbow. That thrilled Democrats. Speaking of himself, Barack Obama said that he was “too polite” in the first debate. No one will say that of Joe Biden.

Dude couldn’t answer the question even though he was asked for specifics several times.

So here’s my sporting-analogy take on the race so far.

Two weeks ago, Team Obama was going into the fourth quarter up by seven. (that’s not my personal take, that’s what the experts said, odds-wize.)

After the first Presidential debate, Obama had clearly thrown an interception, and I’d say at this point Biden succeeded in holding them to a field goal. Obama’s just up by four now, but still in the lead, and another field goal isn’t going to win it for the other side (but it won’t hurt, and they’ll still have time left to win.)

Obama’s got the ball back; we’ll see how this next possession goes next week, I guess.

1. what was great about his swipe at Rudy, was that it made it socially acceptable, finally, after far too many years, to mock people who were continuing to exploit 9/11 for their own political gain. Better six years too late than never, I always say.

BORK! Or Borg.

The Secretary of Labor had decided that the Act’s requirement that employers must provide workers “employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards” meant that American Cynamid had to “fix the workplace” through industrial clean-up rather than “fix the employees” by sterilizing or removing all women workers of child-bearing age. Bork strongly disagreed. He wrote an opinion for his colleagues apparently endorsing the view that other clean-up measures were not necessary or possible and that the sterilization policy was, in any event, a “realistic and clearly lawful” way to prevent harm to the women’s fetuses.

That sounds like the sort of scum Romney would want on his side.

9:34 Medicare and Social Security. I think Joe just hit a home run on Medicare with seniors, which is his target audience on this topic.

Home run, surely you jest… He sounded like a USED car salesman. I mean, I apologize for the cut on used car salesman, but Biden was similar to those oil snake salesman that would say anything and everything just to push his product. I’m not surprised that you give Biden the edge on this debate, it only validates your ignorance… When Biden looked at the audience and questioned the seniors about who would they trust, I almost fell out of my chair. If it weren’t so sad it would be funny!

I’m not sure we got much out of this debate other than the fact that Obama/Biden have NO successful record to run on. I am an independent voter who is probably going to vote for Romney. Obama has had his chance, and he failed.

That smirk on his face was that of a rude person trying to dominate a conversation. Biden was very effective, however, in appealing to older voters who are afraid of losing some of their benefits. All in all, both were effective in their own ways although style points have to go to Ryan.

This debate was about leadership. Who would you want to lead the USA if something happen to the President? Vice President Biden clearly showed he had more experience in politics and showed better judgement. As I watched this debate I focused my attention on Mr. Ryan. What is he? He is a young man (40’s) , who has no friends who are different from him (minorities, etc.), and has extreme points of views (tea party, etc.). Mr. Ryan showed he lacked communication skills (listening, talking, writing, body language, etc.) required for leadship. Mr. Ryan is too young to think and act like a racist bigot. If Mr. Ryan was your child or mine’s he would be labeled as “spoiled” to death and will do anything to prove his points of views regardless of the consequences of his actions. He is not fit for leadership.

I think the GOP found a way to get rid of all the right wing extremist who helped hold the American People hostage over the past 4 years when Mr. Romney choose Mr. Ryan as his running mate. The GOP can know create a winning strategy to keep as many seats as they can in both the House and Senate as well as recruit moderate GOP candidates and try to re-capture the White House in 2016. Hopefully the GOP can restore civility to our political process. We are one nation not divided by race and income status.

And as Our President has stated: “rape is rape”, so Paul Ryan with his anti-choice legislation is a real dud when it comes to leading America forward into the 21st century!

Your post tells everyone who reads this blog exactly what kind of person you are and you are a supporter of the rightwing agenda, as I have read in the past. You are not a good model for your cause. And why do I say that?

You feel so threatened by my opinions that you must call me “sweetie,” while mentioning “professional help” yet you know nothing about me. My life is quite full and rewarding. Your way of seeing others, especially women, is exactly the reason that I write in order to expose the callousness and inherent cowardness of people with your perceptions. I could care less about myself regarding abortions. I am 70 years old this week and am hardly am concerned with the issue of abortion, personally.

Most enlightening was the tax plan debate. Obama’s plan is clear and makes sense and is based on clinton tax rates for the rich when the economy was booming. Romney’s plan became a bigger train wreck after last night. Ryan did not dispute the 5 trillion dollar cut and the huge increase in defense spending the way Romney did.WhenRyan was repeatedly asked to name the tax deductions that would offset that decrease in revenue Ryan just came up with the usual nonsense about “trust me” even if the math does not work. I do not remember Sara Palin talking herself into a corner that bad on substantive issues and plans of her team.
Sorry about Joe’s mannerism but when you are dealing with bold face liars and hypocrites it is exasperrating.Loved the look on Ryan’s face when he was confronted on letters he wrote for the stimulus money.
Yeah lyin Ryan is full of a bunch of stuff but sure is smooth and slick when spewing it out.If you are one of the sheep I’m sure you loved his demeanor even if there was no substance.

For the record for all to read,

I have repeated written on this blog that, imo, abortions should NOT be performed after the embryo is viable to living outside the uterus (except in unusual circumstances), but in the first few months of pregnancy a women’s right to choose is primary. No one knows her life’s situation and what she can handle but herself. If Roe vs. Wade is repealed, all that will happen is that women will die, once again, in back alley abortions in terrible circumstances. Those who do not see that either do not care, or are in denial.

Biden’s Cheshire cat grin made him look like a used car salesman trying to sell a jalopy with a rolled back odometer to the American public. Unfortunately, with the protracted recession at home and American men and women in harm’s way being attacked every day abroad, Biden was the only one laughing. I thought that both candidates made good points, but overall, Biden did very little to explain what an Obama/Biden second term would look like. Frankly, all he had to offer were the same tired catch phrases and more fuzzy math claiming that by simply raising taxes on successful people, all of the nation’s problems will be solved. Well-reasoned and well-put.

RB from Gwinnett: the key to your view is your use of the concept “believe.” It’s a belief you have. It’s not a statement of fact, like the temperature at which water boils at sea level, it’s your belief derived, I understand from your past statements, your personal faith.

I am in the ‘we can’t say with certainty when life begins’ camp. I do distinguish between potential viability to develop into what we call ‘human’ from what we assert to be human (or a ‘child.’). So I think we have a reasonable balance, granting to the woman the right of decision-making up to the general time at which it is recognized that life outside the womb can be sustained.

Are you recovering yet?

When will politicans and the American public realize that changes have to be made. Turning in a SO-CALLED budget that is over revenue by 1.6 trillion dollars will eventually sink us. People are so afraid they’re not gonna get some etitlement they will vote for a politican that they think will give them something, that they couldn’t care less about the country. If Obama has to take a business’ money from them to pay me my entitlement , so be it. Never mind that bussiness’ is what keeps America runnung. We are now a nanny state. Stand by for what’s happening in Europe.

Amazing when Mitt the liar talked over President Obama last week no one called him rude, after watching this debate if people dont see Paul and Mitt will send your sons and daugther to die in another war then you are just blind.

The golden boy said it is ok to send American troops in danger places without help, the right wing nut bigots hate the President so bad they rather risk the lives of their own sons while young Ryan and Mitt sons take vacation.

Aren’t we all glad this morning that Mary’s mother didn’t lose her with a night of bad behavior and decide , as our President once told us, “I’m not living with this mistake”….. But I’M sure Mary was born in a civil time when folks got married, planned her, and she was born….Lucky her, right?

You are welcome. Glad you’re back and okay!

There’s a ‘conclusion’ section right at the beginning that lays out bullet points that summarize, in a few paragraphs, the key causes.

I can cut and paste them if you want.

Stuff like “We conclude widespread failures in financial regulation and supervision
proved devastating to the stability of the nation’s financial markets.”

“We conclude this financial crisis was avoidable. The crisis was the result of human
action and inaction, not of Mother Nature or computer models gone haywire. The
captains of finance and the public stewards of our financial system ignored warnings
and failed…”

“We conclude the government was ill prepared for the crisis, and its inconsistent
response added to the uncertainty and panic in the financial markets”

Each of those points are expanded upon.

I liked the way Ryan, on two occaisions, slapped down Biden…calling him out for the scare tactics BS that defines President Trillions campaign stategy…since they can’t talk about their record (hard when ME is on fire, 15% all-in unemployment, broken promises galore from 2008 etcetera..

Voter turnout is going to be achilles heel for BO…enthusiam is waning amongst minorities and students…who now are facing unemployment 75% or so higher than the 7.8% (subject to recalculation prior to election) so often, in desperation, alluded to by DEMS

Jay,

Firs,t to let you know where from I’m come – I am a “senior”, and I’m 65 years old.

“hit a home run on Medicare with seniors” – not with seniors who understand the Conservative’ Party’s proposal.

Sure, in some cases the plan to let seniors stay in the current Medicare system or choose to receive payments to them instead of to the doctors or insurance companies will, in some cases be insufficient to cover my cost, but letting this senior choose for himself, rather than letting some govern bureaucrats choose for me (by the way, I’m one of those bureaucrats, too), is much preferred over the Liberal Party’s “Obamacare” plan.

When I finally retire, I plan to maintain the private insurance company health plan (BC/BS) provided by my employer (Uncle Sam). I will be responsible for paying a more substantial portion of the premiums than I now pay, :( but if I receive a “voucher”, or whatever you want to call it, that voucher amount will pay a substantial portion of my share of my private insurance company premium. And, since Medicare trumps the private insurance company health plans, I will end up paying very little “out of pocket” for my health total health insurance package.
:) :) :)

Interesting…

Didn’t bother reading the one-sided comments from either side of this.

As CNN got it right.

It was a ‘Draw’ and Biden came across angry and aggressive.

He did not act the role of VP, while Ryan did.

The Democrats were pounded the week before, so they were out for blood tonight.

If your a Dem – you got what you wanted, but how many independant voters did you lose tonight?

Especially Independant woman, who want ego’s checked at the door and facts displayed.

So Jay, I’ll respectfully disagree. ‘Draw with a a slight lean to Ryan’…

I found it ironic that Ryan mentioned credibility several times, when he and Romney are anything but credible, considering their constant flip-flops and obfuscations. How many times has their campaign staff had to tell us what Romney really meant to say a hour after he made a statement? That’s leadership? Looks like he is be lead.

I think you got this wrong..first the bigot remark is sign of fright and lack of substance, second as far as sending troops into harms way without help, the withdraw (to be fair I want all pulled out from Iraq and Afghanistan…neither will be able to avoid taliban and al queda control..with our weapons mind you pointed against us). per Biden that isn’t concerned with grand outcome is absurd.

I think you are 100% on with comment about Romney kids et al..fortunately, we have no shortage of enlisted folks..

Good morning Paul and Debbie,

Debbie, don’t be so sure that Roe vs. Wade might not be repealed. Did you ever think that Republicans would be as far right as they are in their thinking today that their main purpose in Congress has been to “defeat a President to re-election” or that they would in bloc sign an unrealistic Grover Norquist, adolescent pledge that would allow for no for revenue increases for running our nation, or that so many would be buying into unreasoned propaganda that they would be continuously vote against their own best interests? I never thought those extremes would exist in today’s Republican Party. Yet, that mentality is upon us now.

I want to make it very clear that I would have had a very heart wrenching and dificult time choosing to have an abortion, myself, during my childbearing years. Fortunately, I never had to confront making that situation. But I have eyes that can see for others and I know that not every woman (or man who is the partner of a woman in that situation) has lived my life. I can see that a married woman with six children already might be overwhelmed to the point of breaking with a seventh child bear and to raise at age 47. I can see that a young girl of 13 or14 who lives in abject poverty and who cannot handle her own life, cannot possibly handle the life of another. I see that a woman who went into post delivery depression with her last pregnancy and almost did not recover from it, may go over the edge mentally with another pregnancy because her particular hormonal genetic DNA predisposes her to that life-crushing depression. I see that some people cannot handle raising a child with severe abnormalities, whereas others can.

Matters of life and death are so much more complex than can possibly be explained in full and in depth with words alone. In an ideal world, no killings would ever occur in any circumstance, and that means in war, also. But we do not live in an ideal world. To deny a woman the right to make a very personal, private decision regarding the child she may or may not carry (at least in the first months of pregnancy) could be more life-taking to her, and her family, than an abortion that might be extremely difficult for her to decide upon.

Really. I thought it was a function of government to legislate our laws… I guess I am a little confused… Nobody has the right to murder! Period. All that you said is irrelevant, as if coming into a safe and loving home has anything to do with the rampant murder of unborn children that goes on in this country every day.

@Paul

Shallow of me to try and protect any unborn children from harm…. Typical Leftist remark… Pathetic, and all in the name of women’s personal rights… How ABSURD…

As to abortion, what I heard last night is that the Repubs want to outlaw it AT THE FEDERAL level except for rape, incest, or the health of the mother. Then in the next breath, they want to turn the decision over to the states. Doesn’t Federal law trump state law?
Also, let’s say a few states legalize abortions which would not violate repub law. These states would then have to decide to take or not out of state cases. That is absurd.

Some people believe life begins at conception. (why doesn’t or birthday begin then?) Or is it the gleam in someone’s eyes? Others believe it occurs somewhere between conception and birth. Some believe in creationism and others in the Big Bang. So it is a personal belief, a personal decision, and anything the government restricts beyond present law is an infringement on the pregnant women’s’ rights to decide for herself.

IF YOU DO NOT WANT AN ABORTION, DO NOT HAVE ONE.

IF YOU WANT/NEED AN ABORTION, THEN IT IS BETWEEN THE PARENTS, AND THEIR GOD!!!!

Abortion – What an issue, but one I firmly believe is each person’s to decide for themself. I can tell you what I believe though. The above person is wrong, this is not about outlawing the practice, it is about providing public funding for such. It is therefore about taking my tax dollars and paying for something I find morally objectionable in most cases, not all.

Remember, most abortions are the result of poor decisions made by an individual or individuals (two). Why should anyone pay for the perceived correction of that bad decision?

It’s a personal decision and should be paid for by the person or private funds, not government sponsored.

The debate to me was a draw as far as the content goes, with each side scoring points on different issues. As far as the overall impression, Biden came across as rude, disrespectful and pompous. I am a republican and we are supposed to be to pompous ones. Biden visually came off as not only rude and disrespectful, but also elitest and condesending.

That is why you see the polling coming out so different. Biden took a steep dive in likeability. I think his outright lie on Libya will come home to roost though as it is recent and not subject to much gray area interpretation.

I have met Biden and he is a nice guy, but last night made me want to take my hands out of my pockets and check to make sure all my fingers were still there. How can the guy look straight at the camera and ask us who we trust and then make the kind of smirks and body gestures this guy did? Slimy.

Just think lefties. If y’all hadn’t aborted all them there blastocysts and embyros, there would have been enough Democrats to rule the US with an iron fist a decade ago. (Just imagine, no Bush II)Don’t worry though, we’ll keep feeding you, housing you, and giving you free sh*t until you can take over. Then you can have all the redistribution you can stand.

It’s a shame really. We could have been well on our way to being more like Greece.

As far as the Biden/Ryan debate goes, Biden demonstrated perfectly the classless and d-baggery behavior of a lefty. What was him game plan, interupt Ryan every 20 seconds? I expect the rudeness, snot, snark, and contumely on lefty blog like this (and you righties aren’t much better), but Biden is supposed to be a leader? Fail. I’m no Republican so I won’t be voting for either of the Two Turds, but I like the way Ryan handled himself.

What would have been great is if Ryan had sauntered over to Biden and leaned in close to look him square in the eye and said, “Old man, you interupt me one more time …and I’ll pop you right in the snot locker.” I’d vote Repub for sure then.
