UPDATE: 9:07:
From The Hill:
Mitt Romney has overtaken President Obama in a Public Policy Polling survey released on Tuesday.
Romney won 49 percent support from likely voters in the poll, compared to 47 percent for Obama.
It’s the first time all year Romney has led in the poll, which was conducted on behalf of liberal Daily Kos website and the Service Employees International Union. Obama led 49-45 percent in the group’s previous poll, conducted before last week’s debate.
The PPP poll, like the Pew poll cited below, was taken in the immediate aftermath of last week’s debate.
—————————

Source: Pew Research Center
In a new nationwide Pew poll taken in the immediate wake of last week’s debate, Mitt Romney holds a four-point lead over Barack Obama. Until that’s confirmed by other polling, count me unconvinced. Yes, Obama did poorly in the debate, but there’s little to support the contention that a 12-point swing took place — Pew’s pre-debate numbers gave Obama an eight-point lead, a little on the high side — or that the debate completely erased Obama’s 18-point lead among women, as Pew reports.
There’s no question that Romney got a good bump out of the debate. The question is how large and whether it lasts. Gallup and Rasmussen provide evidence that it has begun to fade, perhaps because of the good jobs report, but time will tell.
And what inspired this apparent shift in Romney strategy and fortunes? In an interesting new story at Politico, the change is attributed to an intervention on Romney’s behalf by his eldest son, Tagg, and his wife, Ann, in which they demanded a more moderate approach.
“Even now, many Romney officials wonder whether the change can be sustained. In essence, Romney is trying to undergo a political metamorphosis — to shed an image of personal stiffness, and to emerge loose and willing to compromise. Romney, advisers concede, is at his worst when improvising — and this shift is the biggest improvisation of the campaign. Right now, Romney is described as going with the flow, trying to quickly grow into this new public persona, most notably with his decision to tell personal stories on the stump.
Campaign officials said any change will be confined by Romney’s own cautious nature. And they are candid that their electoral map still looks terrible: Romney is behind in nearly every vital state. Ohio still looks very tough to win and New Hampshire, once a possibility, looks very bleak, officials say.”
So we’ll see. Again, there’s no question the narrative arc of the campaign has been altered. As that great political strategist Yogi Berra once noted, it ain’t over ’til it’s over.

Albany: so what about the clearly proven ties between Romney’s “blind trust” and Chinese oil? From http://www.businessinsider.com/mitt-romneys-chinese-investments-2012-9
“Of course, the Romney campaign has argued that holding these stocks in a blind trust means he didn’t invest in them himself, immunizing him from any apparent hypocrisy. But the trust where Romney has parked his $250 million fortune is arguably not all that blind: It’s in the hands of his personal lawyer and longtime associate…”
And just so you know how Romney’s “investment” was used (from the same article):
“The China National Offshore Oil Corporation has been no stranger to controversy. As a state-owned enterprise, its repeated attempts to acquire energy companies in North America has raised hackles and fears in Washington.”
So the Chinese are investing in Obama after Romney invested in them. So does that mean that Romney indirectly could own part of the Obama campaign?? Perish the thought!

Mama – Thought Police? Don’t go there. I don’t think that MOST African Americans voted for Obama because he is black. I expect some did but most of them voted for him because he was the democrat candidate……… if he had been the republican candidate I don’t think he would have gotten more than 15 % of the black vote. Some people voted for the republican candidate because he was white and Obama is black ….. but not many. There are racists on the left and right. I don’t think Obama’s race got him elected ……. “W” got him elected.

The full Swing State tracking update offers Rasmussen Reader subscribers a combined view of the results from 11 key states won by President Obama in 2008 and thought to be competitive in 2012. The states collectively hold 146 Electoral College votes and include Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin.
In the 11 swing states, Mitt Romney earns 49% support to Obama’s 47%. One percent (1%) likes another candidate, and three percent (3%) are undecided.

In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.” (Strasbourg, France)

“While the United States has done much to promote peace and prosperity in the hemisphere, we have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms.” (Port of Spain)
Don’t be discouraged that we have to acknowledge potentially we’ve made some mistakes. That’s how we learn.” (Langley, VA)
“Unfortunately, faced with an uncertain threat, our government made a series of hasty decisions. … I also believe that all too often our government made decisions based on fear rather than foresight; that all too often our government trimmed facts and evidence to fit ideological predispositions. Instead of strategically applying our power and our principles, too often we set those principles aside as luxuries that we could no longer afford. And during this season of fear, too many of us — Democrats and Republicans, politicians, journalists, and citizens — fell silent. In other words, we went off course.” (Washington DC)

Jm: “Northern liberal is a mindset. Nand Chicago still qualifies. Strictly speaking, Romney isn’t a northerner either based on his roots”
What on earth does that mean, pray tell. Are you making some sort of cryptic ethnic statement?
Otherwise, surely you’re referring to the fact that the North was industrialized long before the South and therefore it reflects interest-group formations typical of that kind of society in different ways than the South.
In such a social environment, no faction is more central and powerful than the corporatists and industrial leaders who oversee the major enterprises and firms. There was no more loyal a representative of that social class than Mitt Romney’s own father of American Motors and Governor of Michigan.
The Romneys are products of the Northern post-industrial managerial class par excellence. So your claim is completely nonsense.

This is the first time Romney has led the daily Swing State Survey since September 19. Until today, the president had led for 17 of the previous 19 days, and the candidates had been tied twice. This survey is based on findings from the previous seven days, with most of the responses now coming since Romney’s debate win last Wednesday night.

The problem is Obama stated if he did not cut the debt in half then he would not be re elected. This is like the no new taxes pledge GHWB made. We made Bush pay for that promise just like we should make Obama pay for his.

Ahem — “No. You see, there is no such blogger as Andrew Sullivan, the conservative blogger.”
Uh huh. Just like David Stockman (Reagan’s budget director) and Jim Webb (Reagan’s Secretary of the Navy). I see.
You go back and read Sullivan’s work from 2002-2004 and tell me he wasn’t beating the drum for the conservative case in the Middle East.
Don’t even try, Ahem. Sooner or later, y’all need to recognize that reinventing yourselves is tough when TV and the internet retain everything you ever say or write.

The Tea Party is a short lived aberration that was mobilized by Karl Rove, via Rush, Faux, et. al. It’s made up of the congregations of backwater churches, and monster truck driving, small time contractors, who never participated in the election process, before W. They are energized by sensationalism, which is generated by the robber barons’ blood money, and there’s a growing divide between the monster truckers, strutting, snake handling preachers and the robber barons, because the Tea Party’s lack of sophistication is beginning to cost them elections.

hiram, you just got a call from Ginormous Broad Brushes R Us. They said your new ginormous broad brush delivery was delayed. Seems they will not be able to use the triple wide flatbead like last time. They are going to bring it in by barge and then have it air lifted using 2 heavy lift flying cranes. As a side note, the manufacturer said your broadbrush has set a record since it can be seen from space.

td: saw your list, wasn’t anything new. Campaign promises are often unfulfilled. We could spend days overloading the blog with those. Your boy is doing 180s on policy issues, which brings into question whether he has a bonafide position on anything that isn’t dictated by polls or his wife and son. The only consistency in Romney’s plan is changing tax rates and policies to benefit the wealthy. How he’ll do that is yet another murky cesspool of ideology that noone can pin down with any clarity.

Conservative blogger, NOT. I could claim to be six foot-two and the perfect physical specimen, but then that would not reflect reality. We were also told Oblunda was the smartest guy around, but…
The core principles of Sullivan’s blog have been the style of conservatism he views as traditional. This includes fiscal conservatism, limited government, and classic libertarianism on social issues. Sullivan opposes government involvement with respect to sexual and consensual matters between adults, such as the use of marijuana and prostitution. Sullivan believes recognition of same-sex marriage is a civil-rights issue but is willing to promote it on a state-by-state legislative federalism basis, rather than trying to judicially impose the change.[22] Most of Sullivan’s disputes with other conservatives have been over social issues, such as these, and the handling of postwar Iraq.

No you just need some excuse for your despicable behavior. In no world do you pick on little girls. Well unless you are a Republican and the little girls in question are Obama’s. But thta’s ok because they aren’t really “little girls” are they? Naw, they aren’t really human, they are just a couple of pickaninnies right?

“In fact, if I had my way, there would be a law that you had to marry outside your race.”- Normal
Normal,
And that’s what makes liberals so damn scary. Damn good thing we don’t have you as dictator for life. Nothing wrong with people wanting to marry whoever the hell they want to- whether their chosen spouse is in or outside of their own race. But when social engineering “I know what’s best for you” liberals like yourself come along with your hare brained social engineering ideas we should all just run for cover.
Are you God or something? I can’t imagine who in the hell you think you are that if you were in charge that you would enforce a law that everyone has to marry outside of their race because it fits your fancy social engineering notions of what’s best for mankind.
Ever hear of freedom of association? Freedom of choice? Freedom to love who you want to even if gasp! -that person should be of the same race? How about just freedom?
I hope you walk back your dictatorial social engineering notions of who should marry who because it suits your particular views. Its nothing short of astounding that a person would think that way.

Just a thought, I think sometimes people get confused when they say the govt takes care of them. Does the govt have it’s own money or is it simply the taxpayer’s money? From now on, let’s say we(the taxpaying citizens) takes care of the folks who get welfare and social financial assistance. I believe we provide a welfare bridge to those folks who need help but I do not want to finance a permanent lifestyle forever.
