Romney family intervention altered campaign, polls

UPDATE: 9:07:

From The Hill:

Mitt Romney has overtaken President Obama in a Public Policy Polling survey released on Tuesday.

Romney won 49 percent support from likely voters in the poll, compared to 47 percent for Obama.

It’s the first time all year Romney has led in the poll, which was conducted on behalf of liberal Daily Kos website and the Service Employees International Union. Obama led 49-45 percent in the group’s previous poll, conducted before last week’s debate.

The PPP poll, like the Pew poll cited below, was taken in the immediate aftermath of last week’s debate.

—————————

10-8-12-1

Source: Pew Research Center

In a new nationwide Pew poll taken in the immediate wake of last week’s debate, Mitt Romney holds a four-point lead over Barack Obama. Until that’s confirmed by other polling, count me unconvinced. Yes, Obama did poorly in the debate, but there’s little to support the contention that a 12-point swing took place — Pew’s pre-debate numbers gave Obama an eight-point lead, a little on the high side — or that the debate completely erased Obama’s 18-point lead among women, as Pew reports.

There’s no question that Romney got a good bump out of the debate. The question is how large and whether it lasts. Gallup and Rasmussen provide evidence that it has begun to fade, perhaps because of the good jobs report, but time will tell.

And what inspired this apparent shift in Romney strategy and fortunes? In an interesting new story at Politico, the change is attributed to an intervention on Romney’s behalf by his eldest son, Tagg, and his wife, Ann, in which they demanded a more moderate approach.

As Politico reports:

“Even now, many Romney officials wonder whether the change can be sustained. In essence, Romney is trying to undergo a political metamorphosis — to shed an image of personal stiffness, and to emerge loose and willing to compromise. Romney, advisers concede, is at his worst when improvising — and this shift is the biggest improvisation of the campaign. Right now, Romney is described as going with the flow, trying to quickly grow into this new public persona, most notably with his decision to tell personal stories on the stump.

Campaign officials said any change will be confined by Romney’s own cautious nature. And they are candid that their electoral map still looks terrible: Romney is behind in nearly every vital state. Ohio still looks very tough to win and New Hampshire, once a possibility, looks very bleak, officials say.”

So we’ll see. Again, there’s no question the narrative arc of the campaign has been altered. As that great political strategist Yogi Berra once noted, it ain’t over ’til it’s over.

Jay, Jay, Jay, this must be the new Dem talking points. There are polls showing a far larger margin for Romney. Independents now favor Romney by a far larger margin. The mythical womens vote has swung toward Romney. Florida is now solidly for Romney and Ohio is a toss up. If the election were held today, it would be a Romney landslide in spite of the fictional jobs report. But, 4 weeks a lot can change. Between now and then nothing will be beneath this training wheel administration’s desperate atempt at seizing power.

Funny how you’ll ignore the dozens of polls that say otherwise, but when Pew comes out with a single outlier, you somehow decide that the single outlier is actually *many* polls that refute everything else that’s come before.

The change in the “political narrative” has been the Democrat arrage of accusing an honest man of lying while their own campaign can’t express truth. The examples are too many to mention but the press has not problem repeating known lies.

Romney’s big plan is to increase defense spending. Where will we get the money. Don’t know if China will lend us the money. They are about to cut us off. Time to reduce spending. LIke when Obama saved 716 billion of waste in medicare. Romney was against that. Does not want to save money and reduce spending.

I didn’t think so. Your “morality” doesn’t seem to permit for much honesty.

So? What difference does that make? Jackson and Norris are still actors. If you’re going to argue that one is full of pewp and should be ignored, then both are full of pewp and should be ignored — or else *you* are full of pewp and should be ignored.

“. . . takes courage to voice your convictions when Hollyweird does not agree.”

So what? What’s courage got to do with whether you’re full of pewp or not?

The cocktail circuit in Atlanta last week was telling me how skewed the polls were. It was a comment, then the yep reflection, and the continued observation of how the polls are a conspiracy. It was as factual in the mind of the speaker as death and taxes. He sounded like the car salesman in Fargo trying to explain the 300,000 dollars missing from the loan department.

Jack Welsh looked like a shop lifter caught last Friday in interviews trying to explain his tweeted comments. He practically put Watergate in the lap of the labor department, but had empty pockets when asked for facts. It just doesn’t feel like a 7.8% unemployed economy, it was too convenient to have good news now.

Is this the view of the Republican Party, everything is a lie from the other side or in the labor department our side. Is there McCarthyism in this thinking? I don’t think this way, but now that they do, it makes me wonder if the conclusion is not part of their reality. We know Fox is a homer for the right on steroids, this bias news gathering was their idea, though they, on that too, try to rub it off on us. You live with thieves the first thought every night before bed is someone is going to steal from you. Everything is process through the reality of the observer.

Washington (CNN) – The fastest growing “religious” group in America is made up of people with no religion at all, according to a Pew survey showing that one in five Americans is not affiliated with any religion.

The number of these Americans has grown by 25% just in the past five years, according to a survey released Tuesday by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life.

The survey found that the ranks of the unaffiliated are growing even faster among younger Americans.

Thirty-three million Americans now have no religious affiliation, with 13 million in that group identifying as either atheist or agnostic, according to the new survey.

Obviously, Mr. Romney should get a bounce from his strong (although dishonest) debate performance. However, this poll is quite flawed because it takes results right after the debate and compares them to some random point in September and then tries to recast the election picture as a whole. This election has had many events that have taken place since mid-september. Plus, who was polled was key. Thus, I do not understand why folks are focusing so much on this flawed poll. Again, more shiny objects. Is anyone really looking at these issues? Is anyone really delving into the substance. I will admit the President should be laying out a stonger defense of what he has done and should point us toward his vision of the future. However, Mr. Romney’s lack of specifics and flat out lying is the worst I have ever seen. He is a businessman trying to close the deal. This means he will say anything to get the sale. People, please look at these issues, this election is too important. Plus, it’s not just about the top of the ticket. The down ballot elections will say a lot more about where we are headed.

Here are a few highlights of Romney’s flips and flops:

1. Healthcare: created the model for Obamacare, but now says he’ll repeal the whole act. But then said he’d repeal and replace it. With what, pray tell?

2. Pathway to citizenship: was for it, now adamantly against it.

3. Said he was independent during Reagan/Bush era and didn’t want to return to it. Now Reagan is one of his heroes.

4. Supported ban on assault weapons and Brady bill- now opposed to any gun legislation.

5. As governor of Mass., he opposed a constitutional amendment on marriage definition. Now supports it.

6. 1994- said he was more pro-choice than Kennedy in his failed senate bid. OMG if he dared say that now…

7. Publicly supported a woman’s right to choose while running for and serving as governor. Now….totally against it and would support personhood amendment.

The flip-flop on healthcare, after he spent years touting the law he helped craft in Massachusetts, ought to have gotten him booted off the platform back in Iowa, but he came out the best idiot in the room by NH. I’m not sure what it says when the best candidate your party can put forth would repeal a law modeled after the one he created as governor of a state.

oh, my … the “great compromiser” had nothing to do with changing his position like he changes his socks (helllloooooooooo Romney)- it had to do with his willingness to work with the GOP.

I just find it funny that the GOP took Kerry to task for “I was for it before I was against it” – and yet turn a blind eye to the NUMEROUS cases of their current candidate doing the exact same thing.

To me the race of Samuel L. Jackson is irrelevant……. not the reason I quoted him. Saying he voted for someone because of their race is hypocritical of someone that accuses others of being racist. Do I think SLJ is racist – don’t know but his remarks were. Of all the reasons to vote for or against someone why would their race even be on the list? It’s like when people told me I had to vote for Jimmy Carter because he was from Georgia and Georgia had never had a native Georgian elected President before. Talk about a stupid reason to vote for someone.. just couldn’t pull the lever for Jimmy.

if you tasted Chicago ribs, you might change your mind …

HOG Butcher for the World,
Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat,
Player with Railroads and the Nation’s Freight Handler;
Stormy, husky, brawling,
City of the Big Shoulders:

They tell me you are wicked and I believe them, for I
have seen your painted women under the gas lamps
luring the farm boys.
And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it
is true I have seen the gunman kill and go free to
kill again.
And they tell me you are brutal and my reply is: On the
faces of women and children I have seen the marks
of wanton hunger.
And having answered so I turn once more to those who
sneer at this my city, and I give them back the sneer
and say to them:
Come and show me another city with lifted head singing
so proud to be alive and coarse and strong and cunning.
Flinging magnetic curses amid the toil of piling job on

Fierce as a dog with tongue lapping for action, cunning

Under the smoke, dust all over his mouth, laughing with

Under the terrible burden of destiny laughing as a young

Laughing even as an ignorant fighter laughs who has

Bragging and laughing that under his wrist is the pulse.

the left is now trying to portray him as a former right wing extremist trying to pass himself off as moderate.

Nah, Romney’s doing that all on his own…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPgfzknYd20

Mitt Romney, 10/3/12: I will not reduce the taxes paid by high income Americans.

Mitt Romney, 2/22/12: There were so many misrepresentations in there it’s going to take me a little while. Number one, I said today that we’re going to cut taxes on everyone across the country by twenty percent—including the top one percent.

………………………

Mitt Romney, 10/3/12: The key to great schools? Great teachers. So I reject the idea that I don’t believe in great teachers or more teachers.

Mitt Romney, 6/8/12: He says we need more firemen, more policemen, more teachers. Did he not get the message of Wisconsin? The American people did. It’s time for us to cut back on government.

………………………

Mitt Romney, 10/3/12: Actually, it’s a lengthy description, but number one, pre-existing conditions are covered under my plan.

Mitt Romney, 3/27/12: If they’re 45 years old and they show up and they say I want insurance because I’ve got heart disease, it’s like: “Hey guys, we can’t play the game like that.” You’ve got to get insurance when you’re well, and then if you get ill, then you’re going to be covered.

(Oh how I LOVE to do stuff like this *snicker*) Hey @Morality!!

Here is why Samuel L.Jackson and his “shctick”-like comment is so absurdly relevant:

I just thought I’d toss it out there, since you tried to diminish him by elevating Norris’s “KARATAY” and stunt skills. Laughable. There IS NO comparison.

One of the more remarkable things about Mitt Romney was that he was a one term Governor and re bought all of the government hard drives used during his one term. Why, one wonders? It’s things like that that get my “Danger, danger, Will Robinson” meter going all twitchy.

“Morality” — “To me the race of Samuel L. Jackson is irrelevant……. not the reason I quoted him. Saying he voted for someone because of their race is hypocritical of someone that accuses others of being racist.”

And it’s no less racist a thing than saying ‘well, this is why pretty much every OTHER black person voted for Obama.’

Yeah, Jackson had a stupid reason, if that’s actually why he did it (and that wasn’t just him joking around). But Jackson doesn’t speak for all black Americans any more than Obama or Oprah does.

Mitt Romney:

The attacks against us in Libya were not an isolated incident. They were accompanied by anti-American riots in nearly two dozen other countries, mostly in the Middle East, but also in Africa and Asia. Our embassies have been attacked. Our flag has been burned. Many of our citizens have been threatened and driven from their overseas homes by vicious mobs, shouting ‘Death to America.’

So according to Mitt Romney, the only problem in the Middle East is the fact that there are expressions of disrespect towards America there.

Wow.

Obviously the only reason the Middle East exists is to worship the glory of the United States of America.

This is the level of our political discourse eleven years after 9/11.

And we wonder why they blew up the towers.

Mama – No you don’t “get it”. 1st of all you brought up Chuck Norris – not me. I don’t vote for anyone based on a celebrities opinion. I am just saying that in the real world (outside of Hollyweird) Norris has achieved success and has actively helped inner city youth with his time and money for years. It doesn’t have anything at all to do with why SLJ voted (maybe) for Obama. You brought up Chuck Norris – not me. Just defending his right to his opinion. I know SLJ is left of mainstream and Chuck is right of mainstream Hollyweird. Took guts to speak out when being black balled
