UPDATE: 9:07:
From The Hill:
Mitt Romney has overtaken President Obama in a Public Policy Polling survey released on Tuesday.
Romney won 49 percent support from likely voters in the poll, compared to 47 percent for Obama.
It’s the first time all year Romney has led in the poll, which was conducted on behalf of liberal Daily Kos website and the Service Employees International Union. Obama led 49-45 percent in the group’s previous poll, conducted before last week’s debate.
The PPP poll, like the Pew poll cited below, was taken in the immediate aftermath of last week’s debate.
—————————

Source: Pew Research Center
In a new nationwide Pew poll taken in the immediate wake of last week’s debate, Mitt Romney holds a four-point lead over Barack Obama. Until that’s confirmed by other polling, count me unconvinced. Yes, Obama did poorly in the debate, but there’s little to support the contention that a 12-point swing took place — Pew’s pre-debate numbers gave Obama an eight-point lead, a little on the high side — or that the debate completely erased Obama’s 18-point lead among women, as Pew reports.
There’s no question that Romney got a good bump out of the debate. The question is how large and whether it lasts. Gallup and Rasmussen provide evidence that it has begun to fade, perhaps because of the good jobs report, but time will tell.
And what inspired this apparent shift in Romney strategy and fortunes? In an interesting new story at Politico, the change is attributed to an intervention on Romney’s behalf by his eldest son, Tagg, and his wife, Ann, in which they demanded a more moderate approach.
“Even now, many Romney officials wonder whether the change can be sustained. In essence, Romney is trying to undergo a political metamorphosis — to shed an image of personal stiffness, and to emerge loose and willing to compromise. Romney, advisers concede, is at his worst when improvising — and this shift is the biggest improvisation of the campaign. Right now, Romney is described as going with the flow, trying to quickly grow into this new public persona, most notably with his decision to tell personal stories on the stump.
Campaign officials said any change will be confined by Romney’s own cautious nature. And they are candid that their electoral map still looks terrible: Romney is behind in nearly every vital state. Ohio still looks very tough to win and New Hampshire, once a possibility, looks very bleak, officials say.”
So we’ll see. Again, there’s no question the narrative arc of the campaign has been altered. As that great political strategist Yogi Berra once noted, it ain’t over ’til it’s over.

We really need to do something about Bush and his greedy big oil buddies driving the prices thru the roof.

So, are you advocating for government takeover of the oil and gas industry? If not, why are you angry about the free market doing what it is supposed to do?

When you strip away the rhetoric, there really isn’t much different between the positions of Romney and Obama. Both are fairly moderate. (If you want to know which Romney is “real”, consider the politics of his father). Obama is no Bernie Sanders and Romney is no Rand Paul, for example.
The big difference is one of them is inept politically and as an administrator and the other has quite bit of experience in both areas.

The Tea Party is a short lived aberration that was mobilized by Karl Rove, via Rush, Faux, et. al. It’s made up of the congregations of backwater churches, and monster truck driving, small time contractors, who never participated in the election process, before W. They are energized by sensationalism, which is generated by the robber barons’ blood money, and there’s a growing divide between the monster truckers, strutting, snake handling preachers and the robber barons, because the Tea Party’s lack of sophistication is beginning to cost them elections.

The US is really going to move to Romney when the details come out about the Obama administration’s coverup of the terrorist attack on the Benghazi consulate.
Then the US electorate will KNOW who the real liar is!
Just like the coverup behind the invocation of “executive privilege” in the Fast and Furious affair.
I can’t wait till the debate that will cover foreign policy! Benghazi and Obama’s weak attempt to deter Iran from developing a nuclear weapon over the last 4 years.

What license does a candidate have to suddenly become his opponent to win an election? The right literally does not care what Romney says, they are like the beauty queen who marries the rich old guy. Romney is a means to their end; prostitution is a side issue at this point.
The one thing I know is the Obama I vote for is the Obama I get. I am shocked at his lack of debating skills the other night, but I am not shocked at what he said, it was true to himself. Seems to me a man’s mental health would depend on his consistence of thought and position. The shock of what Romney was saying the other night was the smoothness of his lies. Richard Nixon comes to mind. There are still people today who defend Nixon. I for one don’t.

That’s a good question, and I was thinking about formulating a lengthy, unsolicited-advice-to-Team Obama kind of response, but really, the only thing you have to do is dust off the playbook you’d socked away for running against a Jon Huntsman-headed ticket (I’m sure they ran that scenario).
You know–point out the fiscal policy differences, play up the social/civil rights issues where the GOP is on the losing side, etc.

“The swing state polls published on Monday might best be described as being OK for Mr. Obama. He led in polls of Colorado, Iowa, Pennsylvania and Virginia, and in two polls of Michigan. In all cases, Mr. Obama’s lead was small. However, this particular group of pollsters had shown reasonably unfavorable numbers for Mr. Obama in the same states before. Three of the polls actually moved toward Mr. Obama from the numbers that the same polling firms had published before the debates.”

——————————————————————–
I agree. A 12 point swing did not take place. The original baseline Pew poll massivley oversampled Democrats. The latest Pew poll looks to slightly be oversampling Republicans. So I think the swing is more likely in the 5 or 6 point range. That said, none of the polls pick up the extent of the so-called Bradley Effect which my instincts tell me could be worth up to 2 points net to Romney. Also, I think the polls tend to underestimate Republican support by another point or 2 as Republicans are often suspicious of the media and don’t answer the pollsters. A while back, I said the election was trending towards a Romney victory of 3 – 5 points. Jay basically laughed it off, but I still think that’s the case. The corrupt liberal msm will not be able to save Obama.

we’ll see. Again, there’s no question the narrative arc of the campaign has been altered
–
Jonathan Chait:
If you want to understand why Mitt Romney’s current polling bounce is probably not a fundamental reshaping of the race, read Nate Silver and Nate Cohn, but I’ll summarize it for you. Polls have very low response rates. Sometimes short-term events that dominate the news cycle excite partisans and make them more likely to answer pollsters — it happened when Romney picked Paul Ryan — but they don’t reflect a deep remaking of the public opinion landscape, which remains fairly settled.
On the other hand, a continued series of events like last week’s debate really might change the narrative of the race. And here is the bad news for Democrats: Their best shot has already come and gone. The debates will anchor the campaign narrative from here on out, and the three debates that follow all offer less favorable terrain for them to press their case.

Dude, I know that YOU are old but does all your “news” have to be? that story is so last week. Expand your horizons. Try some different sites that aren’t a week behind. Do you get Tuesday’s paper on a Sunday or something?
Here, try this. I’m going to link you to yahoo. Scroll through all 50 stories. The Snoop dog (he’s changing to Snoop Lion by the way lol) was on there like last Thursday………… Once you have scrolled the stories then look at some of the categories. you will be (apparently) a week ahead of Breibart…… I’m doing my best to make you a high tech Redneck, don’t let me down.

“How did Mitt miss out on serving in Vietnam? Did he, like Cheney, have “other priorities”?”
I think he was hanging out with BILL CLINTON at the time…

USMC,
When are you going to post Obama stuff from other sites other than those right wing ones? Your posts would be more meaningful that way…

usmc,
I have a hard time deciding who is funnier between Debbie Schultz and her incredulous detachment from reality or Joe Biden and his dumba$$ gaffes. Its a tough call. Maybe we should do a poll on this.

Normal,
CNN and Wolf Blitzer are a right wing site? The site USMC posted may have been right wing but it doesn’t change what happened between Schultz and Blitzer. Shooting the messenger doesn’t change the message.

Because the food safety regulations on the books already worked so splendidly to begin with.
Like I said, Republicans should have the freedom to buy de-regulated peanut butter if they want. I’m all for giving Republicans the freedoms they yearn for.

Do I sense a little desperation in the rhetoric that Mitt is too stiff. A little stiffness in the backbone is a positive attribute, particularly in foreign relations. No one can call a policy of appeasement as beign effective. The Israelies shot down a drone, now that is decisive. The President has been putting “daylight” between himself and Israel, meaning he does not want to get to close. That is no way to act towards a friend and ally.

Well if you can consider being on gub’ment disability being an Obama “created” job and being on food stamps being “better off than you were 4 years ago”…… then you are better off – temporarily. Sorry to tell you but the next BUBBLE to burst is going to be the gub’ment “checks in the Mail” bubble. I’m not saying you won’t get your gub’ment check but I am saying that it will soon be denied at the bank for “insufficient” funds – since the gub’ment is $16,000,000,000,000 + in the hole and $6,000,000,000,000 + has come in the 4 short years under the Obama regime. That’s a whole lot of tax money for a so called gub’ment created job. Now we have a gub’ment created debt.

And here we have ANOTHER BIG MAN who feels the need to pick on not only a 14 year old little girl, but this time an 11 year old little girl as well. What a studly man.
How proud and strong you are to pick on little girls, 14 and 11. Woo hoo, look at the big man. What a stud.

The focus will now be on Obama. HE has a record now. Basically, failure across the board.
Fiscal policy, immigration policy, foreign policy. Obumble is a train wreck. Remember, his line
“you did not build that…” that is not even HIS thoughts/reasoning. The marxist extremist
Elizabeth Warren (who is running for Senate in Taxachusetts) stated the exact same words
last year (Sept, 2011)! Obama is a parrot. However, Barry is dangerous because he advances
the agenda of the leadership/elites of the democratic party. A party which has been hijacked
by left wing global extremists (think Soros/western European elites, liberal bastions like Harvard).
There was a time when these people were on the fringe and marginalized. Not anymore.
A basic choice faces the American people: the values and principles this great country was founded on
or more and more state/government control. This election comes down to two paths: the US Constitution, individual freedom and liberty or the corrosive hand of the state collective. Socialism. Where individuals are grouped, pigeonholed, divided and subordinated to the collective will of the state.

Normal,
Its in that breitbart link that USMC posted at 8:57. Its comical but disturing at the same time. The woman knows she is telling a bald faced lie and Blitzer is trying to tell her its a bald faced lie and yet she is stubbornly sticking to her guns in telling a bald faced lie that she knows to be a lie. I think Politifact or one of them so called fact checkers which coincidentally are all by products of liberal newspapers called the Medicare lie the biggest whopper of the year.
