To date, Mitt Romney’s critique of the Obama foreign policy has been a case study of bluster over content, without specifics, although the presence of men such as John Bolton, the shoot-first former U.N. ambassador, as influential members of his foreign policy team ought to give Americans serious pause.
In fact, if we are to judge him from the tone of his rhetoric and by those whose counsel he seeks — and that’s about all he has given us to go on — Romney proposes to pick up where Dick Cheney left off in 2004, when a chastened President Bush belatedly took back control of foreign policy from his over-adventurous vice president.
I note that in his speech today at the Virginia Military Institute (text available here), Romney blamed the Obama administration for differences of opinion that have erupted between the United States and Israel.
“The world must never see any daylight between our two nations,” Romney said.
However, I do not believe it is our responsibility alone to ensure that such daylight never occurs. Israeli leaders bear at least equal responsibility for keeping that important relationship on an even keel. We are certainly under no obligation to outsource our foreign policy in that region to Benjamin Netanyahu, as Romney seems to advocate.
(In fact, if forced to synthesize the Romney Doctrine to one sentence, I might offer this: The rest of the world will be required to abide by our wishes; we will be required to abide by Israel’s).
Romney also spoke, as he has in the past, of a foreign policy based on confidence, clarity and resolve. These are good and necessary things. Unfortunately, the man’s credibility in preaching these virtues is more than a little suspect. You may recall that earlier this year, as an uprising in Libya gained strength, Romney first supported U.S. intervention and then opposed intervention and then embraced it again once it had succeeded. At one point, he even fled reporters in Las Vegas rather than be forced to take a position on the crisis.
Likewise, he harshly criticized the goal of removing Libyan dictator Moammar Gaddhafi from power, then turned around celebrated once that goal was achieved.
That is not a policy based on resolve. Likewise, Romney’s outrageous claim that President Obama sympathized with those who attacked and killed our ambassador to Libya and three others — a statement issued on the very night of their deaths — communicated not mature confidence but hasty, amateurish desperation and an eagerness to inject partisan politics in foreign-policy decisions.
I am most curious about his policy toward Afghanistan. Here’s what Romney had to say:
“… in Afghanistan, I will pursue a real and successful transition to Afghan security forces by the end of 2014. President Obama would have you believe that anyone who disagrees with his decisions in Afghanistan is arguing for endless war. But the route to more war — and to potential attacks here at home — is a politically timed retreat that abandons the Afghan people to the same extremists who ravaged their country and used it to launch the attacks of 9/11. I will evaluate conditions on the ground and weigh the best advice of our military commanders. And I will affirm that my duty is not to my political prospects, but to the security of the nation.”
Now, I would suggest that those are odd words from a man who just preached the necessity of clarity in foreign policy. Take a look again — do those words tell us anything about Romney’s approach to Afghanistan, or how it might differ in concrete terms from that undertaken by Obama?
Finally, Romney not only suggested that he would oppose any cuts in defense spending, he advocated what would appear to be a new military buildup. That is consistent with his pledge to commit a minimum of 4 percent of GDP to defense spending. By 2014, that would mean a $200-billion-a-year increase in spending over currently projected levels.
Given our financial situation, a 33 percent increase in projected defense spending at a time when we already spend more than the next 10 biggest military powers combined would not seem to be a wise investment. And again — although Romney continues to be painfully averse to specifics — in general the GOP candidate would seem pretty eager to put that larger military to regular use overseas.

High five the woman!! She’s a smart one. Since we’ll never agree on the human rights, and the pointer is moving away from civil rights, I’d say we’re in for a LONG time waiting for any agreement.

Why does Mr. Obama refuse to unseal his college transcripts?
This is not a “birther” thing.
If I apply for a job they want to see my transcripts. Duh…
What is Mr. Obama hiding?
This is a simple thing and certainly the voters ought to know how good a student he was in college.

Why in the hell does it matter how many times he attended class or whatever? We know he earned his degrees, just like many of these other losers who somehow seem to be able to pull it off, at lesser institutions I might add. Give it a rest! But we know what it’s all about – delegitimization. Heaven forbid the history stands that he was EVER POTUS.

“First off, they are NATIVE AMERICANS!! “Indians” are from INDIA!”
The correct term is Indigenous American or First Nations. Secondly, 2/3 of those surveyed have no objection to the term Indian and over half actually prefer it.

There is no need to put quotes around pow wow. That is what these gatherings are called.

Remember, your third person plural is another’s first person plural…and, yes, the buffalo’s back and there is good reason to be thankful for that…
“after their entire country was taken from them at the barrel of a gun and disease propagation?”
And what are the details of how that taking was and still is effected? And disease propagation? Well, the epidemics of VD that swept (and still sweep) through Africa, Europe and White America was the Noble Savage’s gift that keeps on giving!

According to one of the Cherokee stories of origin, “once we lived in a faraway land. It became overcroweded and brother began to fight brother over food. We left. We walked over ice and snow into a cold land where many of us perished from the cold and starvation. For many generations we wandered about as strangers among other peoples. The Cr-ator told us to continue to the south and when the great buzzard came and touched the earth with his wings, there would be our promised land. He did and gave us our beloved mountains as our home.”

Claims #1, 2 and 4, college records. Obama’s college records are not “sealed” by a court order, as this graphic would have you believe. It would be illegal under federal law (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974) for Occidental, Columbia or Harvard Law School to give any former student’s records to reporters or members of the public without that person’s specific, written permission. Obama hasn’t released them, but neither have other presidential candidates released their college records. George W. Bush’s grades at Yale eventually became public, but only because somebody leaked them to the New Yorker magazine. Bush himself refused to release them, according to a 1999 profile in the Washington Post.
OK — Where’s the “leak” on Obama’s grades?
Claim #3, thesis paper. Obama did write a paper on nuclear disarmament for an honors course in American foreign policy during his senior year, but it wasn’t the sort of “thesis” that some colleges require for graduation and keep on file in their libraries, like those that Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama released. During the 2008 campaign, reporters were told that Columbia had not retained a copy of Obama’s 1983 paper, and that Obama didn’t have a copy, either. NBC News contacted his former professor, Michael Baron, who said he looked for his copy but couldn’t find it, and thought he probably tossed it out eight years earlier in a move.
NBC quoted Baron as saying the paper likely would have disappointed Obama’s critics. “The course was not a polemical course, it was a course in decision making and how decisions got made,” Baron told NBC. “None of the papers in the class were controversial.”
Claim #5, Selective Service registration. Obama’s Selective Service registration is public. A copy has been posted publicly, and the Selective Service confirmed that Obama registered for the draft on Sept. 4, 1980, and was given registration number 61-1125539-1.
Worth noting is that nobody in the U.S. has been drafted for military service since 1972, the year Obama turned 11. Obama, like other young men turning age 18 since then, was required to register on a standby basis, in case Congress ever resumes an active military draft. Failure to register is technically a crime, and disqualifies a man for federal student aid or from holding certain federal jobs.
OK — Do you really expect that he didn’t keep a copy of his thesis he would have worked on for countless hours of blood, sweat and his heart and soul? It’s amazing how all those folks just lost or discarded that document…. If it was Mitt”s you could find it on 5,000,000 google pages
He was president of The Harvard Law Review. Nobody can find one shred of his writings about anything….

PEW POLL: Mitt Romney Storms Into The Lead Over Obama
In a shocking one-month swing, Mitt Romney stormed into the lead over President Barack Obama in a new Pew Research poll conducted after Romney’s consensus victory in the first presidential debate.
The poll finds a 11-point swing among likely voters. In Pew’s last poll, conducted in the middle of September, Obama led Romney 51-43 among likely voters. Now, Romney leads 49-46.
…Romney also saw significant gains among women. Last month, women preferred Obama by an astounding 18 points. Now, they are equally split between both candidates at 47 percent apiece.

Obama is now loosing and the libs are getting nasty. Predictable and it is going to get worse. Jay may have to shut his blog down if Obama gets smashed again by Romney in another debate.
whatever your fantasy, we know reality and facts are not your thing…

You must have left a breadcrumb trail, he found his way back none the wiser.

Battleground Poll: Romney Up 16 with Independents, Up 13 In Enthusiasm
Though the media hasn’t yet decided it’s time for a Romney Comeback Narrative, and probably never will, even if he wins — there’s no question Romney is rebounding in every national and swing state poll.
Nationally, Gallup has it all tied up among registered voters — with the president dangerously below 50 at 47%. Rasmussen uses the more reliable likely voter screen and has Romney up 49-47%.
In the Real Clear Politics poll of polls, nationally Romney is only down .09%. A week ago he was down over 4 points.
In Ohio, according to RCP’s poll of polls, Obama’s Ohio lead has shrunk to three — Virginia has Obama only up by 0.3. Florida and Colorado are tied.
The good news for Romney is that we are now seeing polls from each of these states with the GOP nominee in the lead. The bad news for Obama is that in most of these swing state polls, he is not hitting 50.
Well, actually the worst news for Obama is 85% of the calls made for this new Battleground Poll were made prior to Obama humiliating himself in last week’s debate.</b<

Why does Mr. Obama refuse to unseal his college transcripts?
This is not a “birther” thing.
If I apply for a job they want to see my transcripts. Duh…
+++++++++++++++++++++
Liar. No one EVER wants to see your transcripts. They may want to see your DEGREE but your official transcripts? If you aren’t lying tell me how much it cost you the last time to have the college send your official transcript to your perspective employer and how long it took the University to do so.

If spiderman is applying for a federal job that requires a degree, then he probably has to produce his transcripts. At least that was my case. Out of the numerous companies I worked for in the private sector, not a single one asked for transcripts.

My past employer asked for my transcripts (and everything else about me) !!!
WHY?
Because I needed a Top Secret Clearance.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
And there is another lie. If they want to grant you a top secret clearance, they get your social security number and some other info and then the FBI digs into your past. They don’t ask you for squat.

They are still biased and over sample Dems and use 2008 turnout numbers so this makes this news even more WOW.

@Fred
As one who has more than one federal government contract, none of the bidding processes required me to submit transcripts. I did complete a Gideon Bible’s worth of paperwork and I know the FBI and more than one other agency thoroughly checked everything out. This was for both SCI and SAP clearances.
