Gallup: Debate loss erases Obama’s lead entirely

How badly did President Obama lose the first presidential debate?

Gallup says 72 percent of those who watched the debate believed that Romney had won; just 20 percent sided with Obama. In fact, “Romney’s 52-point win is the largest Gallup has measured. The prior largest margin was 42 points for Bill Clinton over George H.W. Bush in the 1992 town hall debate.”

But here’s the most important thing:

t8ahhh-ho0sosuaddjw0ya

In its three days of polling prior to the debate, Gallup found Obama with a consistent four-to-six point lead. In the three after the debate, Gallup found them even. Historically, debates aren’t supposed to shift the polls to such a degree, but historically, that was a whupping the likes of which we hadn’t seen before.

I just checked in over at drudgey and saw this:

Ruth Davidson, the Scottish Conservative leader, is to highlight official figures showing that only 283,080 households north of the border – 12 per cent of the total – pay more in tax than they receive in public services.

[...]

She will blame Alex Salmond, the SNP First Minister, and his Labour predecessors for nurturing a “corrosive sense of entitlement” among voters that has prevented her party making a comeback in Scotland.

No, this is something you’ll probably hear next to nothing about as there is almost total agreement on Chavez between the two parties and throughout the entire media establishment: they universally despise him. So, as with other issues the parties are in lockstep agreement on, you won’t hear too much other than some sniffs and snide dismissals about the ‘takers’ and deluded masses of Venezuela not knowing any better. Funny how the US mainstream press will deride the “47% takers” remarks of Mitt Romney and then turn around and suggest the same basic thing when it sees results elsewhere that it doesn’t like.

“Bozo trying to suppress the military vote by not allowing them to extend their time to vote in Ohio.”

I’m beginning to doubt you were ever in the military, let alone the rank you claim. else you’d know the Ohio case was not about the traditional absentee voter policies or about, residency vs location regarding voting. You would know it was about early voting and you’d know a federal judge issued an injunction denying modifying the early voting rules to give special privileges to military members.

Tell me why anyone, especially a sitting president, would file a lawsuit to keep military from voting.

As soon as a sitting president does that, I’ll answer that question. When you have to lie to protect legislation, maybe the legislation is effed up from the beginning. Nobody tried to keep the military from voting. That law in Ohio cut back the number of days EVERYONE ELSE got to vote. We still believe in Equal Protection here in the US, and that includes Macon too.

Now, seriously, Brocephus….. you rant on and on about suppression of those poor unfortunates that just can’t possibly have a picture ID because they are minorities and then you ignore an egregious insult to our military, especially those overseas.

As a 2nd Generation Black male who’s voicing concerns over voter rights, you’re damned right I will protect the rights of ALL Americans to vote. As somebody in their 70’s you know how many Americans lost their lives trying to get equal access to the ballot box. Either you’re playing stupid about our past or you were one of those who fought against that equal access. Based on your bigoted and somewhat racists bullsh*t you post here, I’d go with the latter, but that’s water off a duck’s back now.

That law wasn’t no insult to the military and you damn well know it. That law was an insult to the everyday man and woman of Ohio who lost 3 days access to the ballot box. When you have to lie to make your point, you don’t really have a point to make. Trying to use the military as an accessory in that lie would disgrace almost anybody, but since we’re talking about you kayaker, I doubt you feel anything bad at all for pushing that lie.

“Prior to 2009?”……. Seems like the numbers were somewhat better then. Except for a brief time in 1980 due to Carter’s bungling of the economy, the numbers have been well below 8%. We have been closer, if you take the highs and lows, to a traditional 5%, through Reagan, Ford, Bush 1, Clinton and Bush 2. And, in recent political history, we have never had unemployment at so high a percentage that lasted so long.

9) “The president’s put it in place as much public debt — almost as much debt held by the public as all prior presidents combined.” This is not even close to being true. When Obama took office, the national debt stood at $10.626 trillion. Now the national debt is over $16 trillion. That $5.374 trillion increase is nowhere near as much debt as all the other presidents combined.

The Romney debate lies:

11) “What we do have right now is a setting where I’d like to bring money from overseas back to this country.” Romney’s plan to shift the country to a territorial tax system would allow corporations to do business and make profits overseas without ever being taxed on it in the United States. This encourages American companies to invest abroad and could cost the country up to 800,000 jobs.

“Lehrer: Do you see a major difference between the two of you on Social Security?

Ladies and gentleman, that was the sound of your president offering to screw you on your retirement. If we are cursed with another 4 years of Dumb and Dumber zerØcare will make its transition from a nightmare to the straw that broke the camel’s back. It will totally destroy the American economy and our healthcare system. Look at the articles about the doctor shortage in Georgia. What do you think is going to happen in 2014? In 2014 everyone will be required to have healthcare insurance but it will be as useless as teats on a nun. All the good doctors will go to a cash only business and refuse all forms of insurance. So you will have to pay for insurance which you can use only to see a government doctor. Unless you are rich you will be forced to sit in a waiting room with thousands of other peons waiting to see your doctor who flunked out of taxidermy school in Bangthedesk. Don’t know if Mittens can prevail in the next debates but if he fails we are doomed to the Third World.

Paul, I have read this thread many times and do not see this documentation. In fact, many here are saying Romney lied in the debate yet I see no supporting links.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Actually there have been several. Brocephus posted a great video of Romney “debating himself.” It shows a clip of Romeny saying one thing in the debate followed by his “original” position from earlier speeches. It’s quite funny. If you google Romney debate lies you’ll find many links. I got this one from googling debate lies……

thanks Taxpayer — Our President came with the facts on his side and decided to not wrassle Mitt in that mud pit of lies and distortions that he kept slingin’ around! :)

Below is “PROOF” the lies being told about the butt whipping Onama took last week are being told by Obama, not Romney.

Princeton Economist: Obama Campaign Is Misrepresenting My Study on Romney’s Tax Plan
8:45 AM, Oct 8, 2012 • By JOHN MCCORMACK

Last night, the Obama campaign blasted out another email claiming that Mitt Romney’s tax plan would either require raising taxes on the middle class or blowing a hole in the deficit. “Even the studies that Romney has cited to claim his plan adds up still show he would need to raise middle-class taxes,” said the Obama campaign press release. “In fact, Harvard economist Martin Feldstein and Princeton economist Harvey Rosen both concede that paying for Romney’s tax cuts would require large tax increases on families making between $100,000 and $200,000.”

But that’s not true. Princeton professor Harvey Rosen tells THE WEEKLY STANDARD in an email that the Obama campaign is misrepresenting his paper on Romney’s tax plan:

“I can’t tell exactly how the Obama campaign reached that characterization of my work. It might be that they assume that Governor Romney wants to keep the taxes from the Affordable Care Act in place, despite the fact that the Governor has called for its complete repeal. The main conclusion of my study is that under plausible assumptions, a proposal along the lines suggested by Governor Romney can both be revenue neutral and keep the net tax burden on taxpayers with incomes above $200,000 about the same. That is, an increase in the tax burden on lower and middle income individuals is not required in order to make the overall plan revenue neutral.”

Thanks.

I’m heading out for a bit, but two things: first, the link goes to a site that reprints what it finds elsewhere. Second, the source if “The Government Accountability Institute.” NOT the Government Accountability Office, an official agency of the US government. Any time an organization tries to make itself sound like an official government agency, one’s antenna should go up. And okay, third: briefly skimming, the assertion that “they solicit for donations and lots of people who visited the website were from overseas” is pretty darn weak. Maybe my understanding is off, but the idea of restricting what country of residence has access to a website like that just doesn’t happen – unless you’re in China or N Korea, maybe.

Many here refer to any stretching, shading, changing of a fact as a ‘lie.’

Just something some of us don’t take all that seriously. Unless it’s particularly egregious.

Romney’s got an advantage, here. His positions have been so general and many identify Ryan’s proposals as Romney’s positions, that he can say “what? Me?!!?”

out for a bit.

I must give credit to Bookman’s sense of fair play and realization of it is what it is. Yes, Mr. Bookman, your candidate got thoroughly whipped in his debate with the next POTUS.

Conversely, I must shake my head with disbelief and disgust to the denial and immaturity of your myrmidons. NOW IT’S LIES, huh? Before it was the Denver altitude, then a conspiracy of hiding cheat sheets, and then it was an imposter showing up. Unbelievable! You all sound like idiots.

Here’s a clue that you all need to understand as best as you can…Mitt Romney showed America just who he is, where he comes from, and America loves him for what he stands for, in spite of what you all have tried to paint him as. No smoke-and-mirrors. No shinannigans. No record of failures.

Mitt Romney knows and the American people know that Obama cannot run on his record. Obama and his political advisors concluded after the midterms that the president would lose in 2012 if the election was a referendum on the economy. The election had to be a “choice” election between Obama and a “worse” Republican alternative in order for Obama to win, and he had to start beating up on his potential Republican opponent right away. You know it and we know it. NOW HE IS A LIAR. Ok, right!

Must I remind you deniers the immortal words of your community organizer…”One nice thing about the situation I find myself in is that I will be held accountable. You know, I’ve got 4 years…If I don’t have this done in 3 years, then there’s going to be a one-term proposition”.

No amount of name calling, character assassination, or idiotic debasement will change the fact that America will not support a president with no credentials and failed economic policies. And we won’t even go into the incompetent foreign polices and cover-ups. That will be forth coming with the next debate.

Since some of you hard core disbelievers know the colors of Luck Charms better than most, I would suggest that you remain eating children’s cereal and let the children take your place when it’s time to vote on Nov. 6.

All of this is support of a prez that supported a trillion dollar stimulus for millions of shovel-ready jobs only to chuckle later about there is no such thing as shovel-ready jobs. Or who continues to lie about how Stevens was killed and the lack of security and his refusal to provide additional security.

Donovan: “NOW IT’S LIES, huh? ”

No one who witnessed the cascade of lies that was Romney’s debate performance ever doubted that.

So, try again.

Mitt Romney is a perfect representative for the Republican position — as I think his base has now finally accepted — as he is a veritable geyser of lies.

Last week, according to the Republicans, polls were not to be believed — obviously skewed! Watch them latch on to this poll like a drowning man on a floatation device.

Yep, the pro-war, pro-plutocracy, corporate-owned, conservative media is in the tank for the GOP. Again…

So you love mitt and think he has the answers to all that ails us? Go ahead and believe in him when you know damn well that his numbers just don’t add up. After the conclusion of the last republican president, I’ll take steady growth and the stock marker rising, that’s the real indicator of yours or mines wealth, we are all tied to it one way or another and I’ll stick with the current president. Romney’s debate performance is so overhyped, what did he have to lose? He was losing very badly before the debate and there are two more…
