Romney’s ‘takeback’ of ‘47 percent’ diatribe unconvincing

Before we move on, I think it’s important to focus directly on Mitt Romney’s statement on Fox News last night in which he belatedly tried to retract his comments about the “47 percent.”

This is what he told Fox:

“Clearly in a campaign with hundreds if not thousands of speeches and question and answer sessions, now and then you’re gonna say something that doesn’t come out right. In this case I said something that’s just completely wrong.”

Listening to Romney, you might be led to believe that his original “47 percent” comments were just a garbled misstatement taken out of context, like his own “I’m not concerned about the very poor” or Barack Obama’s “You didn’t build that.” But listen again to the original statement in the video above. Or, if you prefer, you can read it here:

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. And I mean, the president starts off with 48, 49, 48—he starts off with a huge number. These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn’t connect. And he’ll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich. I mean that’s what they sell every four years. And so my job is not to worry about those people—I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

That is not a statement ripped out of context. It is not Romney saying one thing but meaning another. In those remarks, Romney makes a sustained, passionate and seemingly heartfelt argument about what he truly believes. He is damn clear about it

But don’t take my word for it. Take Romney’s word for it. On the night that video was released, Romney appeared at a hastily called press conference. He was asked explicitly whether he was backing away from the statements, and he made it quite clear that he was not. While his remarks were “not elegantly stated,” he said, he doubled down on the basic message.

“It’s a message which I’m going to carry and continue to carry which is, look, the president’s approach is attractive to people who are not paying taxes because frankly my discussion about lowering taxes isn’t as attractive to them so I’m not likely to atrract them into my campaign.”

(As an aside, note Romney’s mention about his support for lowering taxes, a position that he explicitly denied in Wednesday’s debate in Denver.)

In the days that followed, Romney continued to defend his remarks and continued to press that argument. So did Paul Ryan, his running mate. That is what they truly believe; the passionate, dismissive statements about the 47 percent that Romney made to a roomful of people contributing $50,000 each to his campaign reflect his true value system.

His attempt to come out more than two weeks later and try to claim that his statements were “just completely wrong” and “didn’t come out right” is ludicrous and devoid of credibility.

Believe him at your peril.

And it’s EXTREMELY interesing to listen to him speak at that press conference and then contrast it with the smooth, unhesitating statement he made on that video.

His debate performance, while admittedly stronger than Obama’s on face value, is nothing more than evidence that his campaign both knows and relies on the fact that there are a substantial number of people who don’t care a bit that he lies.

Mitt Romney campaign surrogate Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA) admitted that the GOP presidential candidates was changing his positions and moving towards the middle in order to win over voters, during an appearance on CNN’s Starting Point on Friday morning. Gingrey’s comments, reminiscent of Romney advisor Eric Fehrnstrom’s claim that Romney would “Etch-A-Sketch” his positions after the GOP primary, came in response to the candidate’s recent claim that his 47% remarks were “completely wrong.”

Mitt: What do I need to SAY in order to win? I have got my own house, my own plane….. I don’t need facts, integrity or honesty…. please…please…tell me what to SAY.

Sorry, Jay, that isn’t what “I said something that’s just completely wrong.” sounds like. Romney finally realized he made a mistake, and he’s (gasp) trying to learn from it and repair the damage from it. (Turn on irony meter) How dare he try to do such things! He wants to go back to pre-existing conditions in health insurance, he wants to increase military spending when we need to be reducing the budget, he is against cutting waste in medicare, he is against raising taxes on the top one per cent. He is for cutting deductions which the middle classs depend on. All bad ideas.

Ohio poll: Romney leads 51-48 among those certain to vote

The first post-presidential debate poll in critical Ohio shows that Mitt Romney blunted President Obama’s momentum with his winning performance and is now leading the president among Ohioans who say that they are “certain” to vote.

Overall, the race is deadlocked with Obama over Romney 50 percent to 49 percent, according to the poll taken Thursday night.

But among the stunning 92 percent of all voters in the state who say that they are certain to go to the polls on Election Day, Romney leads 51 percent to 48 percent. And among the 83 percent who have already made up their minds how they will vote, Romney is ahead 52 percent to 48 percent.

Awww, come on, Jay! Mitt just made a southern gaffe. One with a distinctive drawl. That’s why it went on and on and on like it did. He was just talking the talk to a room full of southern wealth. Speaking their language. The language of slow and drawn out, for emphasis. And when you have a gaffe while speaking to a room full of southern wealth, it naturally comes out as appearing a bit winded to a northerner.

Absolutely meaningless. Nobody — including Rasmussen — can know what turnout will be on Election Day. However, that doesn’t stop Rasmussen from claiming to know or from using that number to fudge his polling results.

If Rasmussen can actually tell us what Election Day turnout will be, then why doesn’t he just look another 24 hours into the future and tell us who’s going to win the election?

http://www.theatlanticcities.com/jobs-and-economy/2012/09/geography-47/3323/

excerpt:

Three states had more than 40 percent nonpayers — Mississippi (44.5 percent), followed by Georgia (42.5 percent), and Alabama (40.3 percent) — and all three were solidly for McCain in 2008. The remaining top ten were largely in the Sunbelt: Florida (39.0 percent), Arkansas (38.8 percent), South Carolina (38.8 percent), New Mexico (38.7 percent), Idaho (38.6 percent), Texas (38.5 percent), and Utah (38.3 percent). All but two of the top ten — Florida and New Mexico — went for McCain. At least a third of the filers in about half of the states (26) were non-taxpayers.

It’s politics plain and simple. If he didn’t repudiate these comments it would be tantamount to political suicide. The problem still remains that he is having to back off his OWN comments. He wasn’t being inarticulate and it wasn’t something that could have been “stated more “artfully”, he was being truthful. He was being true to his feelings and he felt safe among those he could share these true sentiments with. Now he is not only backing off the comments but he’s showing his true colors as a liar. So now he’s trying to convince the 47% that he really didn’t mean it? He spent two weeks claiming it was just the wording and not the validity of his claims made to his cronies that was the problem.

I watched the debate between Obama and Romney. I was struck be the difference in attitudes. I thought Obama was relaxed and made intelligent, reasoned answers. On the other hand, Romney seemed angry and preformed more like a school yard bully. It’s hard to tell how to deal with a bully making a lot of loud statements that are obviously not true. You can try to shout him down, or let him continue, knowing that the people listening will realize the absurdity of what he was saying. There are no fact checkers on the scene to say who is telling the truth. In this case, it seems as if much of the media has taken the position that the one who was the loudest carried the day. I don’t see it that way. Seems to me, the person who has the most reasonable positions carrieds the day.

In the debate, Romney loudly made a lot of unsubstantiated statements which turned out to be untrue. It’s easy to do that in a debate and look convincing. But, in the aftermath, when people realize he was not telling the truth, those tactics will work against him.

He wants to repeal the Health Care Act which will mean going back to pre-existing conditions in health insurance, he wants to increase military spending when we need to be reducing the budget, he was critical of Obama for cutting waste in medicare, he is against raising taxes on the top one per cent. He is for cutting deductions which the middle class depend on. He wants to convert medicare to a voucher system. All bad ideas.

This is a re-post from yesterday. It’s a little long but quite honest.

Mr. Romney:

I have watched as you campaigned around the country saying that you understand the pain that its citizens are in today. I believe that’s a lie because you’ll never understand. It’s not in your DNA.

My mother retired after working for 25 years making auto tires. She received her small retirement of $285 per month for her hard work and dedication; an amount so small you wouldn’t scoff at it, but it was hers, (she would not have received that if not for belonging to a union). Too young for social security, she went to work as a Walmart greeter, for minimum wage of course, the only thing she could find at her age. When her knees finally gave out she applied for SSI at the age of 62. With combined incomes she received just under $1200 a month. Over the years, due to the increasing cost of medical coverage her retirement has been reduced. She now receives $125 in retirement, thus her total income is just below $1100 a month. Out of that, she pays auto, home, and life insurance, electric, phone, and cable bills, property and car taxes, mail-order prescriptions, buys gas for her car, and hopes nothing breaks because she can’t afford to call a repairman. Groceries are frugal so she applied for EBT assistance. She was told that she makes too much money, but she did qualify for $16 a month due to being over 65. That $16 will buy a gallon of milk and a cheap loaf of bread for the month or put a little meat in her freezer. She gets to choose.

My uncle was in the Korean War. He was the only survivor when his company was attacked. He was somehow overlooked and he watched as all the other men were shot, stabbed, choked, had their throats slit or were bludgeoned to death. He was eventually honorably discharged, but the army never acknowledged his PTSD. He had nightmares for years, breaking out in cold sweats, never forgetting what his friends, the look in their eyes or what they went through as they breathed their last breath. He spent his life suffering with the memory of that day and went to the VA for medical services, as he could not hold down a job. Years later they did acknowledge the PTSD and he received $1700 a month for his service and he found a facility that would take care of him, but that was short lived as was his medical care and he went into a nursing home, all due to his mental illness. At that point, the VA would no longer pay for his care and Medicaid stepped in, but only after he gave any money he had accumulated away. He lived out the remainder of his life in a low grade nursing facility with minimal staff and care, where he died a slow, agonizing death, because no one cared enough to find out what happened to the man back in Korea.

Would you chose to send your sons into a conflict? We know the answer to that.

My sister and her husband are both self-employed. He recently had a heart attack and now has a pre-existing condition. The cost of their insurance premium per month rose from $600 to $1900. They are torn. They don’t know what they can afford… their house note or insurance. Again, someone has to choose.

My neighbor worked for 20 years as a sales rep. He was diagnosed with colon cancer 2 years ago. His insurance through his job paid him a disability of 60% of his pay. Out of that he must pay his insurance premiums. He has gone through his savings, his 401k, and now his employer has the right to let him go since he has been gone for 24 months on medical leave. He can get Cobra, but only if he can afford it. That’s estimated to cost $600 a month. He doesn’t qualify for Medicaid since he has a home and his wife works or Medicare since he is too young. She makes a paltry $30 thousand a year, not enough to cover the Cobra. They can barely pay the bills and are beginning to think that he was worth more dead than alive. If they let the house go, can they make it? He stills has much more to go through as the cancer has spread again. Too many questions, and not any answers.

Listening to my friends and relatives, watching the suffering that they are going through, I’ve come to the conclusion that all this came from the top down. There are too many corporations lining their pockets off the sweat and fear and tears of the everyday person; people who are struggling, literally, to survive. I have zero confidence in you to do anything but continue to take part in your own shenanigans. Even as you wander across the country spreading your lies, you are still a corporate raider. A leopard doesn’t change its spots. Corporations are raiding the American people and laughing at us at the same time and you all think no one notices. You are wrong. Wrong to think that we are stupid or naïve. We see you. And you, Mitt, do not belong anywhere near Pennsylvania Ave.

That way Mitt can never get cornered by the liberal left wing scum media like you or in a debate. Notice how he made Obummer into the liar the other night with my zingers like you can have your house and airplane but not your facts or that one about Mitt’s sons being pathological liars just like Obummer. The Republican’s don’t care about lies……… here are a few examples.

Deficits don’t matter…… Cost plus contracts…… Mission Accomplished…….

And here in Georgia.they voted for a guy who lied to the state of Georgia about his personal finances…then of course when he was under fire….. he decided to fire the person who was giving him trouble about his lies.

To a Republican lies are a way of life…… example there are Republican’s who still believe the Cheney lie……… Bin Laden was working with Saddam…….

Ron White said it best……. You just can’t fix Stupid.

October 5th, 2012

Jay,

For anyone who supports Obama, to call Romney or any other person a liar is almost comical. You remained silent when and as Obama himself proved that he would say anything to get elected. You have remained silent on the fact GITMO is still open, wire taps are still being used, that he increased the war effort in Afganistan, that he has now endorsed the use of military tribunals, he increased the deficit, that he has reached across the isle and that he would stop indiscriminate killing inflicted by drone attacks.

He said this stuff prior to The election which he won largely based on his promises to reverse the course Bush was taking on all of these issues. He has not done any of them.

Your selective outrage is being seen as just that, selective.

I will even give you guys your old and tired excuse that its Bush’s fault. You excuse Obama by simply saying that. You ignored and continue to ignore Obama telling his supporters in San Francisco his thoughts on prying the guns from the rednecks hands. The fact is Obama has told some huge lies and your party has stood by in silence as he has done so.

Obama is allowed to continue his lies unchecked because you are more loyal to yor party platform than you are the truth. It’s admirable that your party wanted to stop the killing, close GITMO and, oh yeah- cut the deficit in half, but the fact is Obama did none of that. The question I have is why do you support a man who you absolutely know lied to YOU ?

If you wish to say Obama didn’t know what he was going to face then finish the thought with the fact that he should have kept his promises to himself if he didn’t know what he was talking about.

As for Romney, you are right. I think he meant what he originally said. You cannot dispute the vast majority of what he said either, rather you can act like he is morally wrong and ignore the facts as you fane insult. There is 46% of us who don’t pay taxes. The extreme majority of those folks will never support Romney. It is a waste of time to target those who will never support you ( I doubt very seriously you will see Obama supporters trying to plan how to win the vote of the southern white male ) There are political facts at play, facts that are true regardless of how much your party try’s to ignore them.

By the way I watched every second of the debate so your own lies, which are attempts at guiding the uninformed, is wasted on me. Romney said several times that he wanted to lower the rates, meaning taxes. He said he also wants to lower deductions. Matter of fact it was explained tomObama during Romneys response to him when he tried to say what you are trying to say. Remember when he looked at Obama and said what he wishes to do has never been tried ? he continued by saying that lowering the rates while taking some deductions would increase or at the minimum be revenue neutral ? remember when he told Obama that subsidies to big oil could be put on the table if the rates were lowered ? remember it was during that discussion that Romney pointed out Obama had given 5 times the deductions to the green energy companies than big oil has ? You must have been in the frig when he said it, you know since you are saying that he denied wanting to lower taxes. Hit rewind on the TiVo and you will see it for yourself, but wait you knew this already didn’t you ?

And, getting a jump on those marvelous unemployment numbers that Bozo is trucking on about……

About 18 mos ago, I submitted a post on this blog which stated that the unemployment numbers would stay about the same until just prior to the election whereas they would drop below 8%. Well, for the first time in 43 months we supposedly have an unemployment rate at 7.8%. However, just to keep the unemployment rate at a steady 8.2%, nearly 200K jobs/month must be created….. just to maintain the status quo. The BLS states that only 114K jobs were created in the month of Sept. How do you go from 8.2 to 7.8 with these numbers? Answer….. nearly 8M people in this country are employed part time or as temp workers. That number went up to 8.6M, partly due to the holiday hires and temporary employment. In other words, these jobs numbers that Bozo is crowing on about are only temporary and will probably go back to status quo in January, conveniently after the election. Our unemployment rate still is at a realistic rate of 11.5-15%, depending on the ethnic group that you poll and their locale. More smoke and mirrors….

Then I would want to know why he didn’t know all this in the first place — why he as someone who’s been running for president for, like, 10 years has not bothered to learn about the very real struggles of people who are trying to make it in our country. What are their real challenges? What real obstacles stand in their way of their self-sufficiency, if not success? But no, he just decided that the poor, the working poor and the lower middle class just simply don’t take “personal responsibility.” That’s reflects a complete lack of empathy and understanding, which he is just now bothering to cultivate?

Obama is over

October 5th, 2012
1:18 pm

What is convincing is how incompetent Obama appeared on Wednesday when confronted with a Romney who was not a caricature created by the Obama spin machine. With the Axelrod teleprompter filter removed, it has been fun to watch the lemmings in Obamaland freak out as the Prince of Fools elected by the Confederacy of Dunces is exposed for being the naked Emporer he truly is. In the next few weeks, Americans will be inundated with film clips, sound bites, dubious “fact checks”, character assasinations, and partisan propaganda from the Obama camp trying to salvage the Romney image they so carefully crafted over the past year. The goal is to create any distraction from a discussion of the Obama administration’s performance over the past four years. More importantly, what became obvious in the debate, is that Obama is not capable of defining what he would do in a second term. Obama wants to talk about Romney and Romney wants to talk about solving the problems of the world. There will be lots of nastiness coming out of the Obama spin machine to protect the Emporer from being confronted by direct questions about his failed policies and inability to deal with the critical problems facing the U.S. today.

Obama lied about cutting the deficit in half.

So many politicians cynically lie that we don’t have to go out of our way to make them worse than they already are. Merriam-Webster defines a lie as “making an untrue statement with intent to deceive.” Again, with intent to deceive.

When President Obama indicated that he planned to cut the deficit in half, he was already one month into his presidency (therefore, no longer campaigning for office), he had inherited a 1.3 trillion dollar deficit, the largest in the nations history, and he inherited the worst recession since the great depression.

At that time, he did pledge to the cut the deficit in half. Why would he lie? To do so after already winning the election and taking office makes no sense. Yes, he was overly optimistic, in part, because the modified GDP numbers and job numbers showed that the recession was much worse than indicated when he made that statement. In fact, the economy had contracted over twice as much in the months just before his inauguration than economists knew at the time. When making that statement, President Obama should have had the good sense to remember that initial data is imperfect and that he, single-handedly, cannot directly influence such minutia. (Mitt Romney is now making the same mistake by telling audiences that he can single-handedly create 12 million jobs.) Nevertheless, President Obama did not lie, and too much optimism based on imperfect information does not rise to the level of disdain that Republicans seem to think it does.

“In the fourth quarter of 2008, which immediately followed the 2008 financial crisis, economic activity fell sharply. BEA’s initial, or “advance” estimate of GDP for the quarter, which was released on January 30, 2009, showed a decrease of 3.8 percent at an annual rate. In the second estimate, which was released on February 27, 2009, the revised estimate showed a decrease of 6.2 percent. Since then, the estimate has been revised several more times (in March 2009, July 2009, July 2010, and July 2011), and the latest estimate shows a decrease of 8.9 percent.”

QUESTION: Has Obama taken any of these back yet ??????

18) “The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, “the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.” (March 2006)
17) “In a rather stunning interview aired on 60 Minutes on 9/23/12, President Obama equated the sacking of our Cairo embassy and the killing our our ambassador to Libya as “bumps in the road.”

I understand one in eight jobs in Ohio is related to the auto industry. That’s one reason their unemployment rate is below the national average.
Mitt wrote an op ed saying the auto industry should go bankrupt.
The auto industry was preserved thanks to action by the federal government.
If the citizens of Ohio cannot understand how the Obama Administration has helped them directly, maybe they should have gone bankrupt to see how well that would work.

Only to later realize how bad it sounds and the magnitude of what it means as far as an insult.

I just don’t think Romney is an evil or even a bad man. But I think the same of President Obama both are good men, who care about their families and about their fellow man.

Do each have faults? We all know the answer to that.

I don’t think a guy who signed a bill entitling the citizens of his state to Health Care is not a man who does not care about any group. I think he cared about getting money from those donors at that banquet too.

You’re probably right. That said, it muddies the waters quite a bit when Romney is *both* the state health care guy and the ‘the heck with the 47%’ guy. It makes it hard for people to figure out which one he is, and at this point, I think that many voters — rather than giving it much thought — will just say ‘the heck with it, I’m not voting for him since I can’t figure it out.’ That’s a disadvantage for Romney that he’d have been better off avoiding.

Well, at least Mittens wasn’t pretending to be something that he wasn’t to the voters. He was just lying to his rich buddy donors to get their money. Corporate types, consultants do that all the time. They give you an earnest sales pitch, with “conviction”. Then they make the sale, take your money and then ‘harvest’ the profits.

Or maybe he was telling the truth to his ‘owner’-donor friends and lying to the voters?

Here’s what Newt said last January. He called Newt a liar.

“Well, you seem shocked by it! This is a man whose staff created the PAC, his millionaire friends fund the PAC, he pretends he has nothing to do with the PAC – it’s baloney. He’s not telling the American people the truth…”
“I just think he ought to be honest with the American people and try to win as the real Mitt Romney, not try to invent a poll-driven, consultant-guided version that goes around with talking points, and I think he ought to be candid. I don’t think he’s being candid and that will be a major issue.”

And it has not responded to request for comment on the 2012 debate rules. But a copy of the 2004 contract of rules reads: “No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by any candidate.” The candidate can take notes, but only on a pad provided by commission staff.

Romney could not give a fig about uninsured Americans- anything he said in the debates was a pile of BS. He could care less about folks on the dole or social security or verans. Romneycare was a pure business decision because the state fund for unreimbursed hospital care due to Reagan’s unfunded mandate was insolvent and the state was going in the hole to fund it. The current projections are that the number of uninsured under ACA after full implementation is that at least 20 million will remain uninsured…its just a differenct demographic..the folks who lost coverage due to employers dropping programs will replace the unnerving amount of new insureds that are 100% subsidized by taxpayers..

This is why Obama’s promise that the bill would be cost neutral is such BS…CBO now estimates the taxpayer cost to well exceed $1 trillion over 10 years…this number will likely grow once the losses mount for insurers via state markets…

Taxes: what is his plan? Can’t change your position when you don’t have a plan. I’ll bet his plan to eliminate loopholes get changed.

Deficit: What is his plan? Like Obama said “he’d cut it in half”, has Romney said what and how he do it? I’ll agree that everybody says the deficit is bad (even Obama).

I think one of the problems Obama has is he keeps thinking someone besides himself is going to shut the dog up in the middle of the night. Not the press, or the moderator or the adults on duty find that their task. But watch as O lays into him, which he may be left no choice but to do, how many scream foul. Just like they were prepared to do if he had used executive privilege to overcome the constipation of the Congress, they will jump on him for being too aggressive. The pundits were saying all month O cannot respond to Romney’s lies in angry or let him get under his skin. O followed that script and now Romney has torn up his 100th script and is starting over with yet another new personality.

Mr. Bookman,

That is what they truly believe

Claiming what Romney truly believes or does not believe is a distraction. Until just this very week, what Obama believes or doesn’t believe has been entirely taken for granted by the “mainstream” media, and yes, I mean you too, Mr. Bookman. (As an aside, we’re told that whatever absurdity that Joe Biden offers to the mic should be dismissed as “Oh, that’s just Joe”). Whatever Obama says is redefined by Jay Carney almost immediately.

But the problem isn’t what Obama believes anymore. The problem is what Obama has done, what he is doing now and what he plans to do.

The solution to it is what Mitt Romney is going to do.

It saddens me that almost one half of the country (at least rhetorically speaking) can be hoodwinked by such a thin argument as “what Romney believes.” Going by that logic, it makes sense then that you aren’t just talking out of both sides of your mouth, you liberals, but that you believe in two mutually exclusive things at the same time.

This isn’t good reasoning which would make for good government in a republic such as ours. Sadly, for liberals That is what they truly believe, period, and there is no sense to it.

At least the fruits of your belief (or lack of fruit, more appropriately) will be stymied this election; it appears. With any luck and good turnout, the nation can uproot what you have done.

That’s the opposite of what most economists consider reform: cutting rates and broadening the tax base. Similarly, Obama has said he would maintain a strong military while rapidly reducing defense spending.

The media are rightly hounding Romney about how he’d offset revenue losses from his proposed cuts in tax rates. But the hounding ought to be evenhanded. Obama needs to be pressed on the many inconsistencies of his promises and policies….”

He would reduce government spending from today’s 23 percent of gross domestic product to 20 percent, a $450 billion annual cut — but he doesn’t say how. He would balance the budget and raise defense spending. And so on. ”

Wait until Romney proposes to close some loopholes or cut some of the more popular programs to pay for them. The lobbyists will see to it that never happens.

Only thing we’ll get are the cuts and more deficit.

Find one lie on MM please.

I can find examples of Brent Bozell lying easily. Here’s a freebie:

BRENT BOZELL, MEDIA RESEARCH CENTER: This president will say that he’s allowing drilling, but he just won’t give permits. Get this. Consider that oil production in this country was 10 million barrels a day when he took office. It’s down to 7 million barrels a day, and here the president is giving a speech today blaming Republicans for this. I mean, this should be an issue. He needs to be called out on this. [Fox News, Hannity, 2/23/12]

The Truth:
Here are the annual totals, in barrels produced, going back to 2003:

2003: 2,073,453,000
2004: 1,983,302,000
2005: 1,890,106,000
2006: 1,862,259,000
2007: 1,848,450,000
2008: 1,811,817,000
2009: 1,956,596,000
2010: 1,998,137,000

The full-year data is available only through 2010, but 10 months of data from 2011 have been made public. Through the end of October 2011, production totaled 1,713,038,000 barrels. If that pace continues, the year-end total should be around 2,055,646,000 barrels — higher than any year since 2003. That’s eight years ago, just as Obama said. [PolitiFact.com, 1/24/12]

East Lake Ira,

The difference is that the “cottage industry” as you say, is entirely honest in that it is subjective. What CNN and MSNBC do is employ ostensibly objective news anchors as attack dogs.

Just look at the bogus October surprise Dan Rather tried to sneak on George W, eventually giving in and saying that his forged document was true, because it revealed the truth about what really happened.

It is really the mainstream media that is entirely DISHONEST in portraying itself as “news” rather than selectively editted and biased opinion.

Another case in point: the killings in Libya and the Obama coverup would be a news firestorm if a Republican had been so derelict in his administration’s duties.

The upside for us is that once again, Obama will be exposed to the truth for the first time in an environment he can not totally control, the foreign affairs debate with Mitt Romney. Obama will be as helpless, feckless and bumbling as he was this week–because truth is the genuine article, and he can’t run from it, especially not when he’s dealing with someone as intelligent and as prepared as Romney to kick his skinny butt again.

Romney beats the crap out of your liar-in-chief and you people still give him bad grades and ridiculous excuses like the high altitude of Denver. Obama says in his true Marxist speech that “you didn’t build that bridge” and you defend his slip.

Now we find out that the unemployment numbers conveniently drop just before the election from 8.1% to 7.8% and the Bookman/Wasserman/Myrmidons team goes into overdrive. Not so fast liberals. No sale.

Are we living in Venezuela or Russia? Those numbers are cooked and embarrassingly bogus. Is it any coincidence that the BLS is comprised of large Obama campaign donors? Is it any coincidence that no president has ever been elected with unemployment over 8%? There is a credible ground swell of rejection to what the BLS has perpetrated on the American public.

This new blog post by the Bookman propaganda wing of the Democrat Party is irrelevant about Romney’s explanation of the 47% miscue, based on the track record so far by the Obama reelection team. Bookman’s response to anything that Romney says is coming from the mouth of a hypocrite and low class party minion. Oh, I’m sorry. Sure, he said he would close it. And it’s still open. But not because he didn’t TRY to close it.

Congress refused to approve one red cent in money to pay for closing it. And the President can’t spend a penny without Congress letting him do it.

So if you want to crap on someone for Gitmo still being open, at least have the honesty to blame Congress for it.

The court’s four liberal justices agreed that the individual mandate should be upheld as part of Congress’ power to regulate interstate commerce, but Roberts disagreed, and wrote that the mandate is actually a tax, despite the Obama administration’s reluctance to describe it that way during the bill’s passage. In its argument to the court, the government left open the possibility that the mandate is a tax, but did not rely much on that argument. Under the law, people who do not have health insurance will have to pay 1 percent of their income to the IRS starting in 2014. (There are exceptions for some religious beliefs and financial hardship.)

Wrong.

The SCOTUS majority decision said that if the premium payments could be “reasonably characterized” as a tax, then they fell within Congress’ authority to impose.

That said, NOWHERE in the SCOTUS majority decision are the premium payments actually *called* a tax.

I don’t ‘expect’ this from the government, but I am very grateful for these benefits. I wouldn’t choose a president (specifically Obama) just because he promises to keep these benefits. Romney’s statement is not offensive in the least to me – I wish to be more self-sufficient and take charge of my own matters, and wish more people felt this way too. Why is this statement such a big deal???? Maybe 47 is too high and a generalization, but those who do not take advantage of the system would take no offense. Jack Welch, thug.

——–

Of all the people who have something to say about the BLS, none is more unintentionally ironic than former GE CEO Jack Welch.

I have long stated that Jack welch was one of the luckier, more wildly over-compensated CEOs around. He became CEO of General Electric in 1981, just before an 18 year bull market in big cap stocks began. he left in 2001, just as the market implosion was getting rolling.

GE’s revenues grew 385% under his watch, but the company’s market cap grew 4000%. How did that happen? GE increased earnings over the years, and with stunning regularity, managed a quarterly profit beat.

Indeed, it was too regular: After the 2000 crash, we learned of earnings manipulation and accounting shenanigans. The criticism was GE Capital acted as an opaque leveraged hedge fund that always be counted on to help GE beat by a penny. (GE eventually had to settle accounting fraud charges with the SEC).

So if anyone knows a thing or two about cooking the books, its GE’s Jack Welch. Want even more proof? Have a look at this chart of Welch’s earnings versus his successor, Jeff Immelt:

Apparently you do need further explanation as to why your question is stupid. There is a difference between correlation and causation. (You can look the definitions up later if you need to). You talk about data points. How can you call the day a President took office until now “random data points”. When should the data points for judgement purposes begin?

Steven Janiszewski

October 5th, 2012
11:20 pm

Can you believe him, now? Romney is chimerical stealth agent of the Mormon Church, which will buy the White House at any price, and he will say anything to seal the deal. To gain an existential understanding of the cult that produced Mitt Romney, and to get your socks scared off, read The Assassination of Spiro Agnew, available in paperback and e-book at:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=The+Assassination+of+Spiro+Agnew

Its unwilling, part-Mexican Mormon assassin dramatizes the Mormon superiority complex, manifesting it as racism, sexism, jingoism and an anti-federal government temperament. His research in the new library reveals ominous similarities between Islam and Mormonism. The spiritual power behind the cult, which is not the Holy Ghost, acts out.

“With a clarity of language and vision unsurpassed in contemporary American prose, Steven Janiszewski’s Assassination of Spiro Agnew takes us into a U.S. mazed with madness and Mormonism and all things Utah, a U.S. that was then and still is. Do we need a novel, even as brilliant as this one, about a young man on a divine mission to assassinate the Vice President because he is too liberal? Yes, now more than ever. We are and still will be in the same positions no matter who win the President election. We as citizens make it easy for those who run for office to make things easy for them and their families when their times ends. We do not get anything for having them be in office…I have not seen anything that our congressmen and representatives have actually done. Let’s not hurt, cuss, talk-down on one and other because this election. We are not solving anything that will benefit us. We are not making any improvements by electing someone who has not given us his own plan; yet, he is continuing to make the rich rich off of our middle-class dime. I am not approving of this at all on anyone who is running for 2013 president.
