A well-earned tribute to the man at the hot corner

As you may have noticed, I’m not a particular fan of heavy metal. Once I hit 17 or 18 and started to explore more thoroughly all the various types of music available, my Black Sabbath and Judas Priest albums went more or less unplayed.

Tonight, though, let’s make an exception. With the Braves playing a one-game playoff at the Ted for entry into the full playoffs, this could be Atlanta’s final sendoff for the great Chipper Jones. We went to the game Sunday to watch his final regularly scheduled home appearance — we bought the tickets back in July, and weren’t certain then whether the Braves would make the post-season — and the 40-year-old made three sterling plays in the field that any 25-year-old would have been proud to make.

When you start talking Chipper, a lot of memories come back. I remember going to my first Braves game back in 1990, against the Cubs, and there were maybe 5,000 people in the place, with 4,950 of them rooting for the Cubs. That doesn’t happen anymore, and Chipper Jones, along with Bobby Cox and a certain trio of pitchers, helped make that transformation possible.

Essentially growing up in the Atlanta spotlight, Jones has had his occasional stumbles, but overall he has conducted himself with dignity and class, doing great credit to himself and the Braves. He’s also played some clutch, Hall of Fame-caliber baseball along the way.

So to mark the occasion and as a well-deserved tribute, here’s Chipper’s walkup song, “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne, a veteran himself who is even more grizzled than Chipper.

Good one josef!

Got this in my email from Mitt Romney:

Friend,

With the campaign moving at top speed, I grab every chance I can to sit down and connect with my supporters. Even if it means meeting with them at 30,000 feet.

That’s why I’m excited to invite two supporters to join me for a day on the campaign plane. I hope you’ll enter for a chance to fly with me.

I hope to see you on board!

Thanks,

Mitt Romney

I saw that and my first thought, naturally, was “Does this fool think he’s going to tie me on top of his plane like how he did Rover?”

These rich guys are off the chain!

More evidence of how the GOP is working for “us”.

Drama on the House Floor: GOP Cuts the Mic on Dems

If House Dems want to continue to use pro forma sessions to air their complaints and push their “do-nothing-Congress” messaging, they better bring some throat lozenges and be prepared to shout.

During today’s pro forma session, Republican Speaker Pro Tempore Scott DesJarlais, R-Tenn., slammed his gavel, which signals the C-SPAN mics to cut off, over the protests from two Democratic House members.

DesJarlais walked off, leaving Reps. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and Ruben Hinojosa, D-Texas, shouting about the fiscal cliff and the farm bill.

“We’re about to go over a cliff. We need to stay in session,” Cummings said from the floor. “Mr. Speaker, please don’t leave. Don’t leave, Mr. Speaker.”

Despite no mic, Cummings spoke from the floor about Democrats being prepared to work on averting the fiscal cliff. Hinojosa made a remark about the farm bill. Then the two men nodded at each other and walked off the floor.

Last week, House Dems were given some time to air their frustrations during these typically routine sessions. Not so earlier this week, when House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer weren’t given an opportunity to speak.

In December 2011, the mics were also cut off on Hoyer and Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who were left yelling about payroll tax cuts.

Hinojosa told the Alley that he’s been in Washington for three days and has been meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus about the lame duck session.

“I couldn’t believe he wouldn’t recognize me and let me speak on the issue of our farmers. Because it’s not just my state, it’s throughout the whole country,” Hinojosa said about DesJarlais.

I saw an earlier discussion here about Bill Maher and I’d put myself in the camp that doesn’t usually find him very funny, but him saying Obama must have taken his million dollar donation and spent it all on weed was comedy gold.

I probably DID run josef off. I was supposed to have given him back his boa so that he could wear it tonight, but I pretended that I left it in the cleaners and forgot to pick it up. Shhhhh don’t tell him!

As for Maher, I seriously have never heard of even seen anything by him. The most I knew about him was that he used to date this girl who nicknamed herself super head.

I can’t believe that Texas A&M is getting butt whipped by Ole Miss!!!

Ole Miss is just one (football) step up from Kentucky!

South CArolina MURDERED Georgia. Somebody better call the ASPCA — that kind of animal abuse should not go unpunished!

Some body DID predict a deranged chicken with a dog in its beak.

Ok here’s another email I got from the repubs begging for money. If they keep stalking me I’m going to call the cops:

Friend,

It’s time for Attorney General Holder to step aside.

He’s misled Congress, and entirely botched the investigation of the Operation Fast and Furious debacle — yet he still leads our nation’s Justice Department.

It’s just another example of the Obama Administration’s transparent hypocrisy that despite the tragic and very human toll of this scandal, Attorney General Holder refuses to resign — and President Obama refuses to remove him.

It’s up to the American people to replace both of them on November 6. Let’s restore justice to the Justice Department.

Donate now to vote Barack Obama and his liberal allies out of office on Election Day — and help secure a victory for Romney-Ryan and the Republican team.

Thank you,

Paul Ryan

DDR’s comment – Are they STILL on F&F?! Jeesh — let it go cons. Just let it go……

Limbaugh’s sponsors all fled him like he had the plague because in a way he does. Nobody of moral decency argues that he is not a disgusting pig of a human being that got filthy rich from sheeple like JKL2.

That 2 adores him and would never in ten lifetimes denounce the immoral lout’s bigotry, racism, perversion and women bashing says everything there is to know.

Debbie, yep, it was a real smackdown in Columbus last night. The Mr. Hyde Nebraska defense showed up after the first quarter.

And the puppy dogs from Athens looked even worse.

For our champion of democracy, JKL2…
