As you may have noticed, I’m not a particular fan of heavy metal. Once I hit 17 or 18 and started to explore more thoroughly all the various types of music available, my Black Sabbath and Judas Priest albums went more or less unplayed.
Tonight, though, let’s make an exception. With the Braves playing a one-game playoff at the Ted for entry into the full playoffs, this could be Atlanta’s final sendoff for the great Chipper Jones. We went to the game Sunday to watch his final regularly scheduled home appearance — we bought the tickets back in July, and weren’t certain then whether the Braves would make the post-season — and the 40-year-old made three sterling plays in the field that any 25-year-old would have been proud to make.
When you start talking Chipper, a lot of memories come back. I remember going to my first Braves game back in 1990, against the Cubs, and there were maybe 5,000 people in the place, with 4,950 of them rooting for the Cubs. That doesn’t happen anymore, and Chipper Jones, along with Bobby Cox and a certain trio of pitchers, helped make that transformation possible.
Essentially growing up in the Atlanta spotlight, Jones has had his occasional stumbles, but overall he has conducted himself with dignity and class, doing great credit to himself and the Braves. He’s also played some clutch, Hall of Fame-caliber baseball along the way.
So to mark the occasion and as a well-deserved tribute, here’s Chipper’s walkup song, “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne, a veteran himself who is even more grizzled than Chipper.

Nebraska beats Ohio State, Florida either wins or covers the 3 (it was three last time I saw) and I can’t tell you about Georgia because I don’t know the points on that one and as a fan I’m gonna say georgia, even though in this case I believe it as well.

Fred,
I think LSU is the better team but think they will turn the ball over more then FL and that will be the difference.
I am going way out on the limb with the score in the UGA game because of the history of low scoring games at SC but I have a feeling that UGA’s D is going to create some turnovers and let the UGA O get some easy scores.

Just in case someone hasn’t posted this yet:
“The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Mitt Romney attracting support from 49% of voters nationwide, while President Obama earns the vote from 47%. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and two percent (2%) are undecided.
These results are based upon nightly interviews and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. As a result, only about two-thirds of the interviews for today’s update were conducted after the presidential debate. Sunday morning’s update will be the first national polling based entirely upon post-debate interviews.”

Upon further review…the great debate got way out of control and beyond its importance. If you are going to attempt a lincoln/douglas type of debate, then the rules need to be spelled out beforehand.
The second debate should be most telling with the main focus on obama’s challenge; prepare for the romney who showed up in the first debate.
Great story lines, nice drama building and their can only be one winner. American politics for those engaged is nothing short of or maybe actually it is a real “civil war”

LOL!!!
Here’s a man who was smarter than a bag of hammers:
Decades before atheist scientist and author Richard Dawkins called God a “delusion,” one world-renowned physicist – Albert Einstein – was weighing in on faith matters with his own strong words.
“The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends,” Einstein wrote in German in a 1954 letter that will be auctioned on eBay later this month. “No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.”

I don’t know, I would assume it is. They’ve got some real issues with Iran of long standing. Almost twice as many Azeri live in Iran as in Azerbaijan (the number in Turkey is unclear, but it is not an insignificant number and are well integrated into Turkish society, being Turks themselves). The Iranian Azeri are not particularly separatist, but they are more inclined to moderation and reform, and influenced by the ideas and lifestyles of Azerbaijan. Such a move by Azerbaijan would put them in a fix of competing loyalties. There have been some border issues of late. So, who knows?

Jam — you’re silly!
josef — Yep. Imagine the MILLIONS of people, here and abroad, who grew up with Big B. I remember the first time I saw Big B — he was standing on a corner hanging with some friends and talking about the letter “B”.
Blew my mind dude! I was like WOW! The letter “B” is soooo deep! I’ve been hooked on the Big B ever since.

I cannot sing the praises of PBS highly enough. One of the great prides of the Magnolia State is that it was the first state to have every citizen of the state within reception range of a PBS station using just “rabbit ears” (not that YOU would know what those are!). Miss Eudora Welty was the one who pushed that one through. What Blow was saying is very much the case there. In one generation Mississippi managed to get off the bottom in illiteracy and PBS/Mississippi ETV is given credit for playing a major role there…
I can understand why the GOP would want to ax it…

Of course! They don’t need those stinking 47% to become literate and questioning! God Forbid!! Then they’d find out that YES, there were dinosaurs, and NO they didn’t make it onto the Ark.
