There are people here who have friends, or even family, who talk one way around them and differently when in public. We all do that at some point. When the media became news by pointing out the flaws in the other on a 24/7 basis, life as we know it changed dramatically. I don’t agree with Hannity but I also think the fact that MSNBC, America Left, and other such liberal outlets are always trying to make a dent in the FOXs’ envious and devastatingly relatively enormous ratings…Media Matters and most of America Left spend an inordinate amount of time making snide, useless comments about Fox…

I have to listen to both to develop a real clue….Fox has it’s shortcomings but at least they make and effort (albeit often weak) to have panelists/pundits who offer a liberal prospective..

This reminds me of something hilarious I saw shortly before the 2008 election.

There was a panel discussion on some MSNBC news jabber program (most likely Chris Matthews’ “Hardball” program), and one of the participants was Eugene Robinson.

Agreed. My problem isn’t that the Right is trying to paint a negative portrait of Obama. My problem is the way in which they do it. You don’t release (and I use the term “release” loosely) a video from 5 years ago BEFORE Obama won the election in an attempt to paint a negative picture now. Romneys 47% remarks were CURRENT, it paints a picture of the candidate in real time. The opposition needs to do the same to Obama in order for it to have any effect. Old video, old recordings that pre-date his election are useless. Romney is the wrong candidate for this election. Period. Bringing up ancient talking points in an attempt to sway voters is a usless gesture at this point.

But she was also a straight A student. Tavis asked her did she catch a lot of flack for “being white” (referring to her academic success). She replied yes, she did. So I asked a few of my closer black friends about this – did blacks really see academic success as a racial thing, as “being white”. One of them – a single mom – said “Oh, yeah…I gave up a scholarship to NYU because they were picking on me so bad”. Imagine that…forfeiting a college education at a really good school due to peer pressure. Here’s another example: if you are a white man who has played basketball in the inner cities, you will know that black men think that this is exclusively their game. Indeed, they take a clear racial pride in it. But neither education or sports are a “black” or “white” thing. There is, in the mind of many black Americans, an “us versus them” mentality – a If you don’t know that, you are an ignoramus. Consider the meaning that has been ascribed to FUBU clothing (”For us by us”) – even though it didn’t originally mean that.

Now, what is bothersome about Obama’s speech (and other incidents revealing his ostensible racism) is that he, as a mulatto, and as someone who campaigned as a “unifier”, was probably the best person to close the racial divide in America as president. He is half white and half black. But, instead, we see him pandering to the racist mentality of his black audience. I might be tempted to say, like Jay, that because I don’t personally know the man he might only be playing the “racist fool”. But when I consider the fact that he attended Wright’s church for 20 years and that his wife said in 2008 said “For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country”, then I think it can be concluded he has somewhat bought into the racist mentality of which I spoke.

White liberals like Jay are almost self-flagellating and ever so ready to assume guilt and blame for despicable acts of racism probably for which he (like me) was NEVER responsible. In their minds, it seems that ONLY whites can be racist. Bush and his administration was was racist (though GWB was the one who appointed the first black to SoS and considered her one of his top advisers). Right, Jay? (”He was right; it did.“). The video was pretty much a dud, who is surprised? Just another politician saying one thing at home and another in Washington. We have seen it many times here, Chambliss, Isakson, Cleland, Nunn, Carter, on and on, say what they think you want to hear and then just totally ignore what they said, when push comes to shove. Obama probably leads the field in talking out of both sides of his mouth, but he is not the first or the last.

That’s not remotely what I’m suggesting. My point is that I can’t conceive what we would look like if racism didn’t exist. It certainly exists (and on more levels than I can possibly understand) but too often suggested without merit. Seems to me the only way it can be eliminated as a discussion point is if the demographics were more balanced relative to current…

It certainly doesn’t help when you get pundits suggesting that the term racism should be replaced with slavery as I’ve heard in many circles…the political objective is to paint all conservatives as rich, self serving, racists who want to screw the middle class and below.

Do you realize the GOP proposed to BO prior to inauguration I think, that the lower two tax brackets should be reduced and tax on unemployment be eliminated? BO played political and said the now famous, we won….get over it comment. If anyone was going to get credit for these ideas, it wasnt’ going to be the enemy..

My wife laughs when she hears me speaking to my more “southern” relatives – I mysteriously acquire a “deep south” accent, left over from my youth – quite different from my normal mode of speech. I do this unconciously – I don’t want their votes.

I normally have a flat midwestern accent, but when I used to hang around this one girl from Alabama, I would suddenly acquire a very strong southern accent. She had no idea I had no real accent.

Thankfully I got over her in time.

Glad you asked. Blacks are, in Obama’s own words, an oppressed class of people. Government needs to make amends for that by pumping money into inner city areas (this is all part of the racist mentality of which I am speaking). They have been doing that, to some extent, for almost 50 years! And what are the results? A record murder rate in cities like Chicago (from which Obama hales), continued poverty, an unprecedented number of broken families and so on. Fools think you can help someone by merely giving them money or instituting some government program. It doesn’t work. If it did, blacks would not be still facing the problems they are.

I’ll tell you what works: giving people a hand up rather than a hand out. And the story on CBS Nightly News last night (”Empowering the poor to help themselves”) exemplifies that. What Miller is doing has required relatively little money. People who want to succeed (there will always be a certain percentage – probably small – of people who want to freeload) can succeed if they have wise counsel, moral support, steady encouragement, a clear and viable plan and feel invested in their future.

i do have to agree with the VP. the middle class has been buried the last 4 years under this administration. Middle class income is down the last 4 years. Health care prices has gone up, which hurts the middle income folks more. and gas prices are higher the last few years than any other time in history, which really buries the middle class. I agree. There are going to be unforeseen consequences of the law. Including, I think, and increase in premiums and an accelerating pace of businesses dropping coverage for employees.
I have never thought the bill would increase the number of people who don’t have insurance. Like Fred’s brother, they don’t have it because they can’t afford it.
Predict there will be changes in the law as people realize the premiums are going up.

Let me tell you what else ACA did. When it was passed the health plans immediately quit selling child only policies due to ACA. I’m going through it right now with a good friend in here in ATL.
As part of his divorce decree he has to provide health insurance for his kids. He gets his health coverage through the VA. He has 2 options. One is to go ahead and buy a redundant health policy on himself and then get his kids covered on the same policy. He can’t do that though because ACA’s provision covering pre-existing conditions doesn’t go into effect till 2014. So in the meantime he is denied due to diabetes. So he’s stuck between a rock and a hard place. He can’t get coverage for himself in order to include his kids and he can’t purchase what he really needs which is stand alone policies for his 2 kids. Thank you ACA. The law of unintended consequences at work.

And did you guys see that Sears and the parent of several large restaurant chains like Red Lobster and Applebees yesterday dropped providing group coverage for their employees? They are now going to just give their employees a set amount of money probably via an HRA to go and they can then get their own insurance. Expect this trend to continue. I told you guys a year ago this was exactly what was going to happen.

I never saw any of this so it was in fact under reported, at least some of the video. If it wasn’t considered to be damaging, then it would have been released in its entirety at the time. This video does not surprise me at all as Obama makes similar remarks each time he goes off script. Is that accent Hawaiian or Indonesian (sarcasm)? One thing you learn from reading the comments. Fox, Rush, hannity, etc. have done a really good job of painting a broad portion of the people in this country as moochers. It doesn’t matter that most of the people in the famous 47% actually have jobs or retired from jobs and just make so little that they don’t owe taxes. It doesn’t matter that they work all day mopping floors or frying burgers, emptying bedpans or earning tax free dollars because they’re in the armed services and serving in a combat zone. None of that matters, because your thought leaders have told you that they all want a hand out and that Obama plans on giving them one.

Are there people who want hand outs? Sure. Some of them are lazy bums and some of them are big corporations that want tax breaks or to be freed from safety regulations. I haven’t seen anything Obama has done to favor the lazy bums over the corporations. In fact, if you just look at how the Dow Jones Industrial Average has moved under Obama (up 60% vs. down 25% under Bush), you could easily say that the corporations have done quite well under Obama. But that’s ok, don’t let the real facts interfere with the imagined world you live in. Just remember to get your investments to the Caymans if Romney should win this thing – it’s the only way you’ll have anything left.

I thought Obama’s speech was very good, very moving. I agree with your comments about the speech and about the right wing bloggers. The speech did not seem racist. It seemed accurate to me, and I’m white. Hannity and Carlson appear to be racist and their comments are divisive and disgusting.

Whether you believe in Creation or evolution, you’re right on either account (this isn’t where this post is going, but indulge me for a second please…)

Forget how we got here for the sake of this argument, the fact is, we’ve all evolved. The question is: to what extent were we allowed to evolve? I’m going to submit to many of you who have never thought this through, that the black American population has only been allowed to evolve at a much slower, much less-than-complete pace. (I should stop here and say that I mean social evolution, lest someone accuse me of claiming we’re primitive beasts -__-).

HOW can you expect education equality when the black community in America is at a generational disadvantage? When our earliest American ancestors were forbidden by law to be educated? When our MUCH more recent ancestors were forbidden — by law and by practice — to achieve higher education? These things pass down, we don’t have generations upon generations to turn back to for guidance today.

HOW can you expect us to obtain financial equality when black Americans are at a generational disadvantage? When our earliest ancestors were stripped of all ability to amass ANY financial gain, let alone any real wealth? Wealth passed among MULTIPLE generations is virtually non-existent in the black American community at this point, yet somehow we are to believe that the racial gap in financial achievement is somehow due to lack of aspiration and not by force? These things pass down, we don’t have generations of generations to look to for guidance today.

I could go on, but the fact is, we KNOW you and your fathers aren’t responsible for slavery. WE, America are responsible. And much of our power is built upon the backs of those who reap little of it’s benefits. So, no, “racism” isn’t an overused word today. Maybe it’s less obvious to you, many of my white brothers & sisters, but then again why would you notice it?

Donna, how did you commute? Did you ride on tax funded roads or ride in a tax subsidized transit system? Now, that we’ve established that you use government aid, let’s talk about helping other people. One way to help impoverished mothers (or anyone) is to get them working, which is probably going to require some education, etc. Even better would be to support Planned Parenthood and help people who cannot afford to raise children avoid unwanted pregnancies. Ignoring them, letting them starve and slowing turning the middle class into the poor through outsourcing, corporate restructuring and continued wage cuts only adds to their numbers. That’s the Republican solution.

What’s really something, is that people think this speech is actually nothing. The first 5 minutes are actually quite chilling and not for the reason people might first think. Obama talks at length about the story, the miracle of unborn Jennifer Evers, who was struck by a bullet in her mother’s womb during the LA riots of 1992. This is an extraordinary admission from a man who has furthered the funding of abortion more than any other president in American history and who both supporter partial birth abortion and opposed the Illinois Infant Born Alive bill. Obama then goes on at length in comparing America’s problems, line by line, to a child threatened in the womb when he, Barack Obama, more than any other American president has increased the threat to unborn children from abortion through funding and moral support. I cannot support Obama for this reason and for others.

Jay you are correct, this is no bombshell to anyone that believes in Robin Hood, I mean the government, should take monies from one group of people and give it to another. Like the debate this evening, this video is meaningless. The GOP sealed their fate earlier this year when state legislators in Ohio and Virginia, both swing states, passed harsh new, absurd and totally unnecessary restrictions on abortions. Women in those two states are extremely angry; they simply don’t think it’s the place of a bunch of morally corrupt old white men to tell them how to live their lives. And that includes college educated surburban white women, who will decide the winner in those two states when they vote the straight democratic ticket. It’s time for the GOP to get out of the fundamentalist religion business and get back to being the party of Barry Goldwater.

Brian Hudon the man has been president for four years. The need of a resume is not as needed as it was in 2007. Vote for or against Obama, but stop with the chilling, like you just found your best friend having an affair with your wife.

If a woman chooses to carry to term, then I want her to have access to good prenatal care and counseling as well as a decent hospital to give birth in, and I want her to have access to Well Baby checkups for at least the first year — even if she doesn’t have health insurance.

If, OTOH, she chooses to abort, then I want her to have access to a sanitary and well-equipped facility and a qualified doctor and staff to perform the procedure — even if she doesn’t have health insurance.

In short, I want women to be in a position where they can dismiss all distractions of doctors, cost, availability and safety from their minds while they consider how they want to proceed. And I support women in that choice, whether I might personally agree with their choice (in their circumstances) or not.

Whereupon I asked USMC the following: “How, exactly? How’s that been *proven?*”

He made an assertion of fact regarding something that hasn’t been *proven.* I should point out that Doom’s made the same accusation himself a time or two; that Harry Reid has lied. AFAIK, Doom’s never substantiated that claim.

So to distinguish USMC’s direct accusation from what I was saying, let’s broaden your excerpt a bit and bring in material from before and after the excerpt you chose (emphasis added):

“I don’t know about you, but my tax forms for 2011 and prior years have been complete for a long time. If I needed to provide them for any purpose, it wouldn’t take me months and months to clean them up and revise them before I could provide them. This really sums up conservative thinking: an opinion blatted from their butts is equal to anyone else’s. Whatever pops into their head is more valid, and they’ll do you the favor of correcting your errors regardless of their knowledge, experience, or effort to construct a logical thought.

They lecture Climatologists on the climate, Lawyers on law, women on reproduction, and Jews on whether they’re Jewish.

Mitt’s dog had the proper response to this sort of egotistical mania.

On the opposite side of the coin, what IF; a white candidate had said the same things to their audience. Liberals and Dem’s went ballistic when a small remark was made at a birthday party for a retiring white Senator of S.C. All this “race” division is stirring up trouble.

And Conservatives defended that statement and the person making it just as the Left is defending Obama’s statement. So what?

If we want to play what ifs, then what if Whites continuously did the same thing with the complete approval of their peers. What if Whites murdered Blacks for no reason other than them being Black, and their peers refused to convict them for the crimes they committed.

I’m beginning to wonder if the true nature of the fear of Black America is because of the Bible’s instruction to “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” All the hatemongering, killing, and terror that was committed by Whites when they were the dominant majority must be eating away at the conscience of some in fear of the same being done to them or their kin.

Despite Mitt Romney’s campaign efforts to use President Barack Obama’s “You didn’t build that” line to paint him as anti-business, a new poll shows the effort fell flat, Politico reported.

The line, it turns out, is not a net negative for Obama among those asked in the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. Respondents were read the lines in context and asked how that changed their views of Obama, with 36 percent saying it made them feel more positively about Obama, 32 percent saying it made them view him more negatively and 26 percent saying it made no difference.
