Are Mitt’s money men putting away the checkbooks?

From Fox Business News:

The Romney campaign is experiencing what some officials believe could be the beginning of a mass exodus of big money donors diverting their cash away from the Republican presidential hopeful and toward Republican candidates for the House and Senate races more likely to win in November, the FOX Business Network has learned.

The trend isn’t at the acute stage, at least not yet, said one person with direct knowledge of the matter. This person, a major player in Romney’s New York fundraising circles, confirmed to FOX Business that a few New York donors have backed away from financial commitments to the Romney campaign and instead said they will spend their money to help the Republicans hold on to the House of Representatives, and pick up seats in the Senate.

But another person with direct knowledge of the matter says the trend, though nascent, is more geographically broad based, and reflects an increasing degree of anxiety both with what they believe is the tentative nature of the Romney campaign, and recent poll numbers that show President Obama with a lead, particularly in key battleground states, that some Republican contributors are starting to believe is insurmountable.

“This isn’t just a New York trend,” this person said. “It’s beginning to occur all over the place.”

If Romney does well in tomorrow night’s debate, that trend may be stopped dead in its tracks. On the other hand, if he achieves a draw or less, the disenchantment is likely to deepen, with important consequences for fundraising efforts.

A mediocre performance in Denver would also inspire another, more aggressive round of anti-Romney sniping and backstabbing from conservative media and politicians, which has the potential to do a lot more damage to the Romney cause than a withdrawal of financial support. I’ve already been struck by the fact that many conservative pundits and media figures have been even more dismissive of Romney’s chances than have their counterparts on the left. Given the right opening, they seem quite ready to bury him and move on.

JamVet: I will be honest: I have never watched a debate between politicians because it is too hard to stomach. However, this President has skillfully exploited the soft underbelly of political correctness over the course of his career to get where he is. The progressive media – Jay Bookman, et.al – has hitched their wagons to him and can’t afford to lose. Mr. Bookman has yet to publish one logical reason why he should be re-elected. Every one of his columns has been about the ineptness of the Republicans.

In my heart, I believe it will be tragic if Barack Obama is reelected to a second term Our enemies are waiting for him. On the other hand, the cynic in me will cheer the destruction of the Democratic party if they do win. The wave of problems headed our way is simply too much for the incompetent buffoons of the Democratic party to handle.

Trying to figure out why conservatives are so adamant that we don’t live in a democracy, when it is clear that a republic and a democracy are not mutually exclusive. Nobody ever claimed we live in a true democracy. Democracy includes representative democracy, which is what we have, as well as it includes a true democracy, which we don’t have.
Only reason I can come up with is that conservatives want to govern themselves without having to answer the majority of the people in this country. So they hide behind the word republic as if it will protect them from changes wanted by the vast majority of the people.
We are a government of the people, for the people and by the people.
Arguing semantics will not change that.
Everything in the constitution can be changed by a vote of enough people. That makes our government included within the definition of a democracy.

“Call him what you will, but if the general consensus is not a knockout for Romney over the 3 debates, you going to have to get used to it…”

Here’s an interesting observation for you, TBS:

If Silver had decided to look at what polls from NYT and CBS were saying before their final poll in 2008, he would see that they had Obama winning by 14 early in October. That number would then drop to 13 in mid-October, and then 11 by the end of the month. The final CBS poll would settle in at 9 points, two points higher than Obama’s final margin of victory. So yes, the “final” poll was within 2 points of getting the vote right. But the one taken less than 4 weeks earlier had estimated his lead by more than double what actually happened. I’m guessing Nate Silver would have a great explanation about the McCain surge no one else experienced…

Cillizza declared Pew Research the “gold-standard in non-partisan polling” and said that the WaPo samples are correct because Pew’s non-voting adult samples back up the argument. How good is Pew? In their final poll in 2008, Pew Research just about nailed the 2008 result when they predicted a 6 point win for Obama. But what’s even more astonishing is that just a week before the election, on October 26th, the Pew poll had Obama up on McCain by an amazing 15 points. So in one week, McCain went from trailing Obama by 15 points to just 6 by election day. That was one heck of a surge for McCain at a time he was getting hammered and it was clearly over. But hey, Pew “nailed it.” Or, perhaps, the last poll got a little extra tweaking so they wouldn’t be embarrassed.

I have not had time really to investigate whether or not this happened in reverse for Republicans in the last, say, 30 years – but if the polls have consistently overstated Democratic favorability in the months before the final poll (which THEN can only be “wrong” at the pollsters own peril) – that would almost prove bias. Does anyone know if such a study has been conducted?

No, brother, I will admit I was wrong. But, (apparently) like 60% of the American populace, I am distrustful of the “mainstream” (long established and ostensibly “objective”) media which has been shown time and again to have a liberal bias. They pay the bills for these pollsters. Besides that, as I have said in earlier blogs, new telephone technology (cell-only households and VoiP) and rules are making polling both much harder and more expensive. I read recently that it is estimated only 9% of the population answers polls – down from close to 40% two decades ago. THAT is a problem. Google it and you will see.

I have to admit that I looked at that Twitter feed. I will have to go and cleanse my brain for even accessing Twitter, but for tonight only, I went there. The one question that I have in relation to this bombshell is that, if this video was recorded in 2007 and placed on youtube, what does it say about the GOP’s opponent research when nary a peep was made about this video in 2008?

As I’ve often said here, if y’all were offended by what was said on that video, you really would not want to hear what is said in barber shops and other places where Black men congregate and talk amongst themselves. Some of us do the exact same thing that some of y’all White men do when you’re amongst yourselves… you let loose with how you really feel about those who are unlike you and don’t have a clue as to what it’s like to be like you.

One of these days, I’ll have to record some of that stuff and post it on youtube. I can already see y’all clutching your purses and wallets when we walk by you after you hear some of that stuff.

this column is pure conjecture and i love how leftist libs like you jay always try to tell republicans who they should run and what they are thinking and what they should be doing……you are funny…..how about a column on the ambassador terrorist attack cover up by blaming it on a video…..how about a column on why the white house is urging contractors to ignore the law and not send out layoff notices and then the labor relations board will reimburse their legal fees based on that……this guy ignores the law and more people are seeing this ideology for what it is……keep talking jay……please……

SoCo/Bro

I was following TBogg’s twitter when I read that retweet about drudge being porn, so I knew something was in the pipeline.

Someone then set up that othernewsform2007 twitter account and it’s been nonstop mocking

Did you read the entire piece?

Cutting certain research and development programs would also yield savings, including $6 billion over a decade after eliminating Department of Energy funding for “Biomass and Biorefinery R&D.”

“The government spends billions every year doing research that should be done by private industry,” writes TCS. “Taxpayers should and do pay for basic research into the most nascent and least understood energy technologies, but these mature industries should pay for the research from which they will ultimately benefit.”

I guess that taxpayer group didn’t read where the currently popular fracking came to be popular because of extended research over a course of several decades that was funded by government dollars. I think we started funding fracking research in 1975 and it didn’t pay off until the late 2000’s.

“This has been a test of the right-wing emergency bombshell network. If this had been a real bombshell, you would have been instructed where to turn ….”

You sure were having a little fun a couple weeks ago when the MJ tape came out. I guess this one hurts a little by reading the remarks.
