Travelin’ music? SHE’ll tell you about travelin’ music!

Bettye Lavette’s been around a while. In fact, if you were touring back in the early ’60s with the likes of Ben E. King, Otis Redding and James Brown, and you’re still at it today, you qualify as an authentic R&B veteran. That’s a marathon runner in the musical world.

And as you’ll see if you watch this remarkably emotional performance from just a couple of years ago, Bettye does not sell her audience short. To the contrary, she sells everything she’s got and then some.

Ladies and gentlemen, to kick off the weekend, I give you the fabulously soulful Miss Bettye Lavette!

– Jay Bookman

Anyhow, I don’t go in for the hard rock music and stuff like that, and I don’t mix politics with music, but since this one’s been running thru my head all week, how about some Supertramp?

bman,

A few years ago I heard of a bass guitar that had buttons at the top of the neck. A, B E….

That`s the trick! I thought.

I hunted one of these down after a long search. The man that owned it told me it took about twice as long to learn how to play this thing as it did to play a normal bass. Well dang.

Next I spotted a small keyboard bass. (Actually, I spotted it years ago on that Talking Heads video I posted @ 9:07 pm yesterday)
How hard could that little thing be to learn?
Well, there are about 5 of these things left on earth @ about $5,000 each.

Oh well, there is air guitar.

I also do interpretive dancing. I am trying to get Fred to do a duo one night.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I don’t dance. but I used play the hell out of keyboards. It took me about a year of listening and rewinding to get all the sounds down and programmed in on my synth’s but back when I was in practice I played this as my “solo” when I was in bands. Much of it was piano so I played that parts (and the harpsichord parts) on my OLD Yamaha, (last one they made before they developed MIDI).

This one didn’t take nearly as long to learn. I was using a Yamaha DX7 (got one the second it came out lol, almost 3 grand. HUGE bucks for an 18 year old.) The problem was that the sound was too *clean*. I never could get that good Hammond B3 with leslie cabinets sound, and I couldn’t find one to buy, even if I could find the money.

Give me some keys, a few beers and a beat up, tacky, smo0ke filled honky tonk or blues joint and I was happier than a pig in sht. (and back in them days, the smoke was from them “green” cigarettes).

The Slacker In Chief For Sure!! NEW YORK — Concerning the fun parts of his job, Barack Obama resembles the Energizer Bunny. If there are crowds to wow, entertainers to schmooze or donors to pitch, Obama is Johnny on the spot.

Too bad Obama’s sparks stop flying when it comes time for the serious, heavy lifting of the presidency.

According to the institute’s data culled from the official White House calendar and Politico.com’s news coverage of that schedule, Obama chose to skip his daily briefings and, instead, simply read his briefing book.

Obama skipped his briefings between last Sept. 4 and 11, the entire week before the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, suffered an Islamic terror attack that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, technical officer Sean Smith, and former Navy SEALs Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods.

Even worse, as Thiessen reports, Obama postponed and eventually skipped his briefing on the day after these planned and deliberate assassinations. This liberated Obama for a truly indispensable responsibility that day. As American embassies burned brightly throughout the Islamic world, Obama jetted off on Air Force One for a campaign fundraiser in America’s least solemn city — Las Vegas.

Surrender if Never and Option:

” Most of the folks I know will probably agree with the thoughts expressed in this posting. Those who don’t should still have to know, that at some time in their life, a situation may develop which will place the unavoidable decision on their shoulders. Life’s choices are made easier by having the state of mind to have already have made the conscious decision aforehand to not give in to forces of evil.

Like those brave people on flight 93 that was brought down on 9-11-2001 in a Pennsylvania field, rather somewhere in Washington,D.C., when there is no way out …. just don’t give blood cheaply. Make ‘em pay dearly. ”

Maybe I’m being naive and overly optimistic, but I think we’re getting a bit carried away and a bit hysterical in our reaction to the Libyan situation. There are two factors here that we’re not always paying attention to in our own response on the street. First, the Ambassador was a popular figure in Libya and held in high esteem by a broad cross section of the Libyan population, viewed as friend. his approach and the Libyan response was, of course, a threat to the radical Islamacist factions. Secondly, while there were mobs attacking US institutions elsewhere in the ME, tens of thousands of :Libyans took to the streets to tell us how sorry they were that such a thing had happened. It was the first massive demonstrations on our behalf.

It would behoove us to curry that support. Theirs is a fragile situation. Instead of throwing around “blame” and calling it a “failure,” we need to let them know how much we appreciate their courage in taking on those who would sully their name and sabotage their revolution.

Josef@6:24, YES! We need to support, value, & cultivate the friends we still have in the ME. Yes the devastating attack on Mr. Stevens & our consulate there is reprehensible. However, we MUST bear in mind who the enemy is! I think the enemy is not the government, but rather the extremists. So let’s not throw out the proverbial baby with the bath water. You can call me the “wide eyed optimist,” but I think & hope (& perhaps pray) that we have more friends there than are able to speak up. I have often thought about why we, as a nation, do not just get out of there & let the ME fight it out among themselves. But then, I think about the help our country received others when we launched our revolution against England. The lust for liberty is strong! We can not turn our backs! If nothing else, this is our heritage.
Okay, off soapbox for now.

The Israeli-Kurd alliance is a long standing one that goes way, way back. Beyond the deep cultural affinity, though, there is the Macchiavellian and the world of Byzantine politics at play today. While Israel has been quite open in its relations with the autonomous Kurdish enclave in Iraq, it has been until recently more circumspect in relation to Turkey with whom it has until recently had proper to good relations. The current regime in Turkey has taken an increasingly anti-Israeli stance and has been cozying up to Iran. With an autonomous Syrian Kurdish entity, it’s only a matter of time until it has to face the music, so to speak, for its brutal oppression of its own Kurdish population. Iran has begun a serious crackdown on its Kurds, accusing them, and not entirely without some justification, of allowing the Israelis a base for their plans to take on the Irani nukes. There’s a deal in the works for Israel to sell fighter jets to the Iraqi Kurdish “militia.” The question is where the Syrian Kurds are getting their heavier weapons. The whole mess is getting dicey, and now Greece has been making moves that direction, partially in relation to their connection to the Orthodox Christians in Syria. but having held not-so-secret meetings with the Syrian Kurds. There’s no love lost between the Turks and the Greeks.

All in all, it’s getting dicey.
On the more positive side, I was reading where some 2000 Israeli citizens, Jews, Christians, Muslims and Druze, have entered Syria “illegally” to provide humanitarian aid.

There’s a lot of pc horsesh*t around that. Here in this household, the little braves go to the game and chop…

Is the name Braves offensive? Well, not nearly so much so as the Redskins, which is downright racist and pejoriative, but hey, that’s the national capital, so why not, eh? :-) Braves carries within it a certain respect for the fighter. The Seminole nation of Florida are the first to come to the defense of Florida’s mascot and their sensitivity to Seminole culture–not to mention the first rate education so many of their tribe get there.

It would behoove us to curry that support. Theirs is a fragile situation. Instead of throwing around “blame” and calling it a “failure,” we need to let them know how much we appreciate their courage in taking on those who would sully their name and sabotage their revolution.

You’ve finally lost your ever loving mind josef. It saddens me but it has finally happened. You KNOW the Republicans don’t care about our Country much less freaking LIBYA. They want to pour gas on the fire and hopefully some “radical Muslim” group will set off a dirty nuke here in the US, Chicago would be great for them as that would REALLY “show” Obama a thing or two. If that happens, then Romney wins and they get to play God with the world gain. In regards to Rice, I don’t even think it’s about race. I think many, on the right, have simply gone bat shiiite crazy and simply can’t do anything beyond a guttural “ugh!!” when it comes to anything done by the opposition party.

When it comes to the reporting, they have never thought of the consequences of jumping the gun and assuming the worst. Instead, it’s a neverending parade of “ready, fire, aim”. They have yet to realize the difference between the tortise and the hare and simply choose to react with blazing speed without engaging brain cells. Maybe some are afraid that if they engage their brain cells, that will zap precious energy from their ability to be macho or something.

—————

In regards to Sen. Brown’s people, they should be ashamed of themselves and appologize in public to every descendent of every native tribe to all of the Americas. That was totally uncalled for and way beneath anything that any “true” American should ever think of doing. Better yet, why don’t they be good Republicans and resign? Seems that Republicans resign when they f**k up and this was a major f**k up if there ever was one. How soon will we see the resignations get turned in?

I realize that not all the information is there, but I think that we need to be treating the Embassy attack and the protests as two separate things, as the Libyan population seems to be doing. That attack, I believe, was a long time in the planning and execution, the date alone being significant in that. I think it was one of those ironies of history that the two coincided.

The terrorists are playing it up as one and the same, taking advantage of the PR angle and, I fear, those of us outside Libya are falling for their tactic and, unwittingly, lending them support…

I saw that, and it still doesn’t change the fact that one vote is one vote. If they don’t vote and I do, that’s one less there and one more here. One vote is all that’s needed to swing your electoral college votes. You build a home by starting with the foundation, not the roof.

For example, the vote of Dave Smith in Sheridan, Wyo., counts almost 3 1/2 times as much mathematically as those of his wife’s aunts in northeastern Ohio.

If Dave does not vote, that does not equal almost 3 1/2 less votes for a candidate either. That is simply one less vote for whatever candidate he would have voted for. If Dave votes for the losing candidate in his state and his aunt votes for the winning candidate in her’s, which vote, according to your math, counts more then?

As I said, one person… one vote.

Nope, when you, your dozen news articles/editorials, and the US Constitution can prove that Dave not voting is a loss of 3 1/2 votes for the candidate he supports as opposed to losing a single vote, then I’ll believe you.

I notice you didn’t answer about the vote when a person votes for the losing candidate in a smaller state vs a voter choosing a winning candidate in a larger state. They BOTH suck:

It was called “Manifest Destiny” at the time. You studied it in school but you’ve probably forgotten ……………….. :

By the way, I didn’t know those eeeeviiiiiillllll Democrats started the “War with Mexico” !!!

“Manifest Destiny was the belief widely held by Americans in the 19th century that the United States was destined to expand across the continent. The concept, born out of “a sense of mission to redeem the Old World,” was enabled by “the potentialities of a new earth for building a new heaven.”[1] The phrase itself meant many different things to many different people. The unity of the definitions ended at “expansion, prearranged by Heaven.” [2] Mid-19th Century Democrats would use it to explain the need for expansion past the Louisiana Territory.

Manifest destiny provided the dogma and tone for the largest acquisition of U.S. territory. It was used by Democrats in the 1840s to justify the war with Mexico and it was also used to acquire portions of Oregon from the British Empire. But Manifest Destiny always limped along because of its internal limitations and the issue of slavery, says Merk, and never became a national priority. By 1843, John Quincy Adams, a major supporter, had changed his mind and repudiated Manifest Destiny because it meant the expansion of slavery in Texas.[3]

The legacy is a complex one. The belief in an American mission to promote and defend democracy throughout the world, as expounded by Abraham Lincoln and later by Woodrow Wilson and George W. Bush, continues to have an influence on American political ideology.[4][5]“

Also SoCoBro – the conversation we were having earlier yesterday(?), eg: AA children and the effect that foods laden with hormones are having on their bodies; saw this and almost threw up. Doesn’t mention if the mother knew, or when she found out, but if it was my child, i would’ve taken her to see the abortion doctor.

Man gets 25 -56 years for impregnating 11 year old girl

This is a case of a child’s body maturing before her mind had a chance to mature — she didn’t even know she was pregnant OR what had happened to her. Too sad.

I believe there is a special little closet in the boiler room under the basement of hell just filled with loads of payback for people who do stuff like that.

I researched as much as I could about the case and what I found out was that he was dating the mother of the litte girl, the little girl (even though she didn’t know what was going on) AND he had two more women on the side.

It made me sick to death. First because I was wondering about the little girl’s mother…….

Did she not NOTICE that her daughter wasn’t menstruating every month?

Did she not NOTICE that her daughter was sick/ getting fatter/ had “funny” stomach aches etc.?

WHAT type of woman, who’d bring into her home and have around her daughter, some man she knew less than a YEAR?

Are there women out there, (O.K. — BLACK women); so hard up for love and affection that they are willing to accept ANYTHING just to say that they have a man? Wait, a BLACK man.

I have plenty of sistah girl friends who’ve I’ve known since college, who swear they’d NEVER date a white guy. They’d rather save themselves for some mythical IBM (Ideal Black Man), that they’ve made up in their dreams — and year after year they’re getting older, still childless, and still alone. Yet they’re still holding out hope that their IBM will come and sweep them off their feet.

I’m ranting I know. Im just sick of crap like this. Why did the mother ALLOW her child around that monster? Why didn’t her daughter feel comfortable enough to TELL her mother what happened to her? And if she did, why didn’t her mother believe her?

What’s the price of love? Sacrificing your children and your dignity? For what?

Obama doesn’t know how to talk to republicans huh?

Pelosi, who happens to have a ground-level view of the situation, disagrees, insisting that her Republican colleagues will be just as obstinate as ever.

“I see this president sit for hours being very respectable, but trying to find a path where there could be agreement when there is [none],” Pelosi said. “‘Never. Does never work for you?’ That’s really what they’re saying to the president.”

Conservative pundit Ramesh Ponnuru, writing in Bloomsberg, agrees with Pelosi:

“If the president believes anything like this would happen in his second term, he is kidding himself. If Obama wins re-election, the Republican Party will react by moving right, not left. It will become less likely to compromise with Obama, not more…

So the republican congress, not Clinton, is responsible for the near balanced budget in the 90’s then…..

Isn’t that always what Newt claims? Seems funny that less than 20 years ago, the GOP would compromise to do what was best for the country. Today’s GOP thinks that compromise is a 4-letter word that should never be uttered aloud or even thought about.

Go figure that one out…. Pure unadulterated jackassery!!

Gotta nitpick you on this one. Congress doesn’t actually have to do anything at all when the president submits his budget.

http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/31/1105

Compared to the state of negotiated compromise today, I’m willing to wager that most of America would ditch the current president and congress if they could be replaced by the group from the 1990’s.

Generally true. The prez has the upper hand in any negotiation though.

The president should not be a part of the negotiation at all. That’s the problem with America. The president, by Constitutional design, should have NO part of legislative formulation. If the Founders would have wanted it that way, they would have not separated the Executive and Legislative branches as they did. Giving the president the “upper hand” in any legislative negotiation is giving the President far more power than the Constitution advocates and allows.

Employers have already proven to the Labor Department through the labor certification process that they need these workers, that qualified Americans are not available and that American workers will not be harmed (or the process has been waived in the national interest). As the high-skilled foreign worker advocacy organization Immigration Voice states, “the country of origin does not affect the immigrants’ ability to contribute to the economy and the employer. Employment-based immigration is driven by U.S. employers seeking to fill positions for which they cannot find qualified, willing and able Americans.”

Bro: Those “job bills” are scams, written so the lay man can’t understand that they’re being scammed. For instance:

H.R. 4078
Regulatory Freeze for Jobs Act of 2012

The rule would provide for two hours of debate equally divided and controlled by the chair and ranking minority members of the Committees on the Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform. Additionally, the rule makes in order and provides ten minutes of debate for each of the 26 amendments (summarized below) printed in the Parts A and B of Rules Committee report accompanying H.Res. 738, in addition to providing for one motion to recommit with or without instructions.

This bills has nothing to do with jobs, except for the name. What they’re trying to do is write an end around for regulations regarding SOME EPA Regulations, and probably some nuclear regs too.

Here’s another one:

Congressional Replacement of President Obama’’s Energy-Restricting and Job-Limiting Offshore Drilling

H.R. 6169
The Pathway to Job Creation through a Simpler, Fairer Tax Code Act of 2012

and another –
H.R. 5544
Minnesota Education Investment and Employment Act

H.R. 5544 would require the Secretary of Agriculture to exchange federal land for land owned by the State of Minnesota. Specifically, the bill would require the Secretary to exchange approximately 86,000 acres (according to CBO estimates) of National Forest System land located in the Superior National Forest for approximately 86,000 acres of land owned by the state within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Under the legislation, land obtained by the federal government would be added to and administered as part of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Land acquired by the state would be deemed state trust lands and would be held in trust for the benefit of the Minnesota public school system.

These supposed “jobs” bills are nothing more than the republicans playing 3 card monty with the american people. The only JOBS in these bills is the word “J-O-B-S”.

My point was (which I didn’t state clearly) that we HAVE to let the people on the entitlements Hope that they can get a decent paying job and support their families.

The FACT is that during the last 20 years we have ignored the undocumented alien problem (which took many construction and hospitality jobs)

This threw many into the cycle of poverty that we are facing today.

Lack of local gov’t involvement in education (it was the feds job) led to under achievement.

BOTH parties are at fault.

If we keep electing the same dumbasses we have been electing we will be totally screwed in 20 years.

Absolutely, 100 percent bunch of baloney. Almost EVERY leading GOP politician is arguing for cutting both child healthcare (Medicaid funds most of that, for example through Georgia’s PeachCare program, and Medicaid is a primary target for GOP budget cutters) and food for the poor, through substantial cuts to food stamps.

This is a real problem…I have not reason to believe that that will be true…actuarially and socially, its a big problem…if more kids are being born into poverty etcetera at a multiple of others, something is fundamentally wrong…either the entitlements are too rich or laiden with too much waste, some incentive(s) exist amongst the distributions, or there is otherwise not incentive to rise above…

Our most significant (IMO) security risk is undoubtedly the deficit/debt….how much more can we toloerate? Is kicking the can down the field for votes and increasing entitlements to the tune of $200+ million a year per HC plan without offsets really a sound strategy? You’re not going to find an example of anybody saying that because it would be political suicide. What you need to do instead is actually follow their ideological positions to their conclusions.

For example, with his budget proposal, Romney wants to cut non-military spending to 4% of GDP if I remember correctly. Look at how much of the budget that would cover and try to formulate a budget using those amounts that would not eviscerate programs. He simply cowers behind his vague statements to hide the truth. He knows that, if he tells the truth, he can kiss this election goodbye.

If you want to see what happens when the rhetoric and ideology runs into the reality of daily life, then here’s the perfect example for you.

You wages may not have stagnated, but “real wages” for the majority have done just that. Great for those and their efforts who do not fall in that category.

Personally, I do not see the economy getting better for sometime, regardless of who is elected.

Spending has to get in check and I think we need to phase back in the Clinton era rates as well as reviewing the EITC.

As best I think it should be a break even. I really do not agree with someone getting back more than they paid in.

Making credit “more available” has been a double edged sword imo.

Many people and corporations can point to the advantages and show valid examples, however there are many who were financially wrecked.

In the short term it seemed to work great on the macro level. More credit, usually leads to more spending. Since 70% of our economy is based on consumer spending we appeared to have had a upward economy over the last 30yrs as you mentioned, minuses the bubbles and current situation. Heck allowed for tax rates on the whole to decrease.

Problem is that imo it works better on paper over the long haul than it does in reality.

Spending has kept going up, people are used to lower taxes on avg and of course credit problems for many people are coming down, but still at high high levels.

While I may not agree with all his business practices, I have not been one to knock Romney’s taxes or off-shoring of jobs. He is a success and has done it better than most based on the system in place. Many people have done well over the last 30 yrs, I am only 43 and surely not in the poor house.

However, while I do think the Democrats as a whole, not just Obama will have to work on spending, more “supply side” economics isn’t the answer.

Well, considering how much you like to quote that statement, I’m also sure you’ve remembered that he didn’t say that he would make that proposition himself. Stevie: Do you really think it is the GOP’s intent to cut anything more than waste? Are you buying into the emotional political hand-jive that Ryan et al want to eliminate benefits for those who will need them? How can you suggest that we can continue to sustain these ever increaseing entitlements given the growth of those using same? We could tax 100% of “rich” and maybe offset 1 year or less of deficit spending given current trends…

Your argument would hold up better if the GOP was inclined to do away with, and not fight to maintain and even expand THESE “entitlements”:

***Walt Disney Corp., whose profits in 1995 exceeded $1 billion, received $300,000 in federal assistance to perfect fireworks displays.
****Kopin Corp., a Massachusetts technology company, has received $30 million in federal subsidies the last four years and tens of millions more in savings through the lease of a state-owned laboratory. Despite this huge public investment, the company plans to send more and more of its new manufacturing jobs overseas.

**** The federal government now spends roughly $65 billion each year on more than 100 programs that provide taxpayer assistance to American businesses. [3] Terminating those programs today could save taxpayers at least $300 billion over the next five years.
******Most of this $65 billion in aid benefits businesses in four industries: agriculture, exports, high technology, and energy. These subsidies tend to have a Robin-Hood-in-reverse impact: redistributing income from generally middle-income taxpayers to the relatively higher-income owners and shareholders in the companies—including multi-million-dollar recipients such as Rockwell International Corporation, Westinghouse, B.F. Goodrich, McDonnell Douglas, and AT&T—that receive the government checks.

Gas companies, Westinghouse, et al, do not need help.

Unfortunately, corporate welfare has been the largest fiscal blind spot of congressional budget cutters. Virtually every corporate welfare program that aided and abetted private industry in 1995 continues to funnel funds to corporate America in 1997. The federal umbilical cord to the Fortune 500 has not been severed. Many industrial aid programs have had their budgets increased.

“President Obama is a uniquely gifted speaker, and is widely regarded as one of the most talented political communicators in modern history,” Myers writes, calling Obama a “universally acclaimed public speaker.”

With that said, even Boortz is laughing at those on the right who claim the polls are wrong and Romney is really leading.

If all else stays even, it is probably over. Romney needs to come out the clear victor during the debates. A draw will mostly likely end in his defeat and it will be back to Iowa to campaign for 2016. A few good one liners, which he will have, isn’t going to cut it.

Yes polls can change and many on the right keep referring to Reagan and Carter. Of course Carter was wiped out during the debates and lost his lead before the election and was trounced on election day.

One also has to keep in mind that Carter had a 35% approval rating, which Obama doesn’t have and I do not think many people believe Romney to be a Reagan.

Surely not over, but Romney can’t have status quo and expect victory. If the overall electorate isn’t awed by his performance, they will stick with what they have. Sort of like 2004.

I doubt a man who spent as many years as you did working in law enforcement, spent too much time make excuses………. quit doing it for Republicans and Romney.

Both sides make excuses when they lose. The right just had a significant win two years ago. Many on this blog ignored or laughed at me, when I told them do not be surprised when 2012 isn’t a repeat. Only 34% of the electorate voted in 2010. That will not be the case in 2012.

No offense, but I will show you the demographics after the election and you will still complain and make excuses about the “moochers” and “takers”……. You will not speak of those who vote Republican who fit some of these came “categories”. You will not speak of the fact that Romney didn’t get his message across. Good thing my DAD isn’t still alive, you can’t imagine how much Gov’t money THAT mooching SOB was collecting for HIS nearly 40 years in the Air Force as a pilot. I know thta mooching SOB didn’t deserve a single one of those air combat medals. And my nephew? Can you imagine THAT mooching SOB? He’s barely 30 and has been mooching all his life. First he mooched a damn education at the Air Force Academy, (got paid Gov’t money but got all his “taxes” back because he didn’t earn enough), but THEN that mooching little rat bastich went and did a few tours in the Middle East where his mooching ass didn’t have to pay taxes while he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross. What a moocher.

As you can see, not only was I a moocher, but I have a whole f’ing family of moochers. We just love mooching off you hard working tax paying citizens as we mooch our asses off in War zones. I saw your responses earlier…

My point is simple: birthrates (see attached) are now 3:1 in favor of entitlement recipients…no amount of corporate tax, rich tax or whatever can remotely make a dent in our ongoing deficit and debt…resulting in our most material security risk since WWII..

If we raise taxes on corporations, the argument that we will create more middle class jobs (and/;or a corresponding increase in revenue to remotely address this issue) doesn’t float neither does the increase in cap gains tax.. Plus, any increase in taxes are not likely to be offset by any cost cuts as our politicians only want votes and big money…too much political risk..Only thing IMO that will fix this is getting private money out of campaigns and away from lobbyists..Only then can we get our interests to become the top priority..

The Obama administration clearly hoped that the Department of Justice’s Inspector General report on Operation Fast and Furious would be the last word on the scandal.

However, a new report from Univision to be broadcast tomorrow, previewed here by ABC News, may put the issue back on the front pages. One source called Univision’s findings the “holy grail” that Congressional investigators have been seeking:
The Univision report will air at 7 pm ET tomorrow night, with English-language subtitles

Univision’s Investigative Unit (Univision Investiga) has identified massacres committed using guns from the ATF operation, including the killing of 16 young people attending a party in a residential area of Ciudad Juárez in January of 2010.

With only 1,746 military voters in Virginia requesting absentee ballots so far this year — out of 126,251 service members in the state —the Military Voter Protection Project says the system has broken down.

And it’s not just in the Old Dominion. MVPP Executive Director Eric Eversole reports significant declines in absentee-ballot requests by service members across the nation.

Compiling data from Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Illinois, Ohio, Alaska, Colorado and Nevada, Eversole’s organization found that military families have requested 55,510 absentee ballots so far this year. That’s a sharp decline from the 166,252 sought in those states in 2008.”

Keep .. .. The only comment I made was that I do not see how showing an ID to vote could be a problem. That doesn’t mean there isn’t one, or even that I could never be convinced that there isn’t one.

Thanks, getalife. I did google it, but no joy there. I don’t know from twitter (I am old, ya know), but am on Facebook to keep up with kids and grands. And speaking of old, I remember when, in 1955 or so, we got our first television set. My mom remembered when her family got a telephone. I CELEBRATE our new technologies. And I celebrate our first president of mixed race. Some may vote for his white half, some will vote for his Black half. I will vote for the man he is, the man who has been & will be the president for ALL of us.

Fred – “As far as I’m concerned ALL you Jane Fonda traitors can kiss my big fat hairless white BUTT.”

Jane was trying to stop a stupid war and stop senseless lives being lost. She could have gone about it differently, but Nixon and his crowd were ruthless so it took ruthless actions to fight them.

Just supporting the anti war effort in your mind or from your couch was not stopping the slaughter.

Some, like Bill Ayers took the fight to the Government. (He could have set those bombs off on the Capital steps at 2 pm instead of 2 am)

What were you doing to stop the Viet Nam war?

Unless you were for the war?

I`m not condoning Jane or Bill, but it worked. Many lives saved.

………and I would like to personally thank all you hippies out there who took on…. your parents, the Government, the Baptist (Billy G) and other religions, rednecks, and last but not least the military industrial complex. (Gen. Westmoreland was a lying sack of sh*t who cost thousands to lose their lives unnecessarily.)
Good Job!
We may meet again if this election goes south. Look out for my friend Fred. We never know which way his wind will blow.

skydog: Jane Fonda is a no good traitorous, lying piece of dung. I witnessed first hand the results of her treachery. Real live MEN some neighbors of mine, fathers of my friends suffered from her actions. Don’t give me that hippy bullsht. Col Sterling, my neighbor, came home from the Hanoi Hilton with scarcely a bone in his body unbroken and 100 lbs underweight from the torture that Jane Fonda condoned.

While you were home all safe and happy, smoking dope bad mouthing your country and kissing her traitorous ass, HE was being tortured daily. But you go a head and tell us what a heroine she is for torturing him. She didn’t stop a war, she enabled torture and murder. Some of our neighbors didn’t come home. They were tortured to death in POW camps. I hope thta makes you feel REALLY proud, by disdaining your fellow citizens, many who were drafted, and enabling torture, you really “showed” Nixon.

Why did the war stop?
They powers just decided they had had enough?

How many more Col Sterlings would there have been if some didn`t take drastic action.

Were you for continuing the war?
What did you do to stop the war?

Bullsht. The war would have been OVER if they had continued to bomb N. Vietnam. Your arrogance to the plight of other Americans is disgusting. I can see why Jane Fonda is your hero.

Yeah skydog, I’m sure you watched everyday like we did hoping you WOULDN’T see your dad.

And yes, the bombing was working great. Until they stopped it. You can’t build war materials in pesky little tunnels. You have to ship materials into HARBORS not pesky little tunnels. Apparently you can write everything you know about waging war and military strategy on the inside of a matchbook cover using a grease pencil…….

Fred – That war was a bad idea from start to finish. The proof is, nothing happened when we pulled out.
(The commies didn`t take over the world. In fact Viet Nam is doing well, comparatively, right now.)

When it comes to wars of choice, I choose none.

If we are in danger, then look out.

My military strategy training is on the battlefields of south Ga.trying to outflank the mighty Bob White.
They are tough and don`t have tunnels.
