Seeking the “true” Romney is like seeking Bigfoot

Mitt Romney AP-1
romneydown

The core problem with Mitt Romney is, well, his core. As in he apparently doesn’t have one. This is a man who can say the following in an interview yesterday with NBC’s Ron Allen, when asked about his lack of empathy …
—————

“Don’t forget, I got everybody in my state insured. One hundred percent of the kids in our state had health insurance. I don’t think there’s anything that shows more empathy and care about the people of this country than that kind of record.”

—————

…. and then literally a few minutes later stand in front of a crowd and say this:

—————

“I will repeal Obamacare and replace it with real health care reform. You see, Obamacare is really Exhibit No. 1 of the president’s political philosophy, and that is that government knows better than people how to run your lives. It is a view that government should stand between you and your doctor. I don’t believe in a bigger and bigger government…I believe in freedom.”
—————

I think that’s remarkable. If creating such a system is evidence of empathy, what does it say about a person who seeks to dismantle such a system? How can a person go from one statement to another without an apparent hitch, and seemingly with equal sincerity? Which statement reflects the “true” Romney?

I do not know. I am baffled by the man. In fact, given such statements, the more pertinent question may be: Can a “true” Romney even be said to exist?

I cannot fathom how Mitt Romney can flop around like a fish out of water and yet some people think he is a great candidate or they don’ think he’s a great candidate, but they are going to vote for him anyway. He was all for Romneycare, but not Obamacare. He is all for states rights, except when he isn’t. He is all for the 47% to be tossed out of consideration in getting his vote at a $50,000 per plate fundraiser for his elite buddies, but supports our troops, our seniors, our struggling middle class all of whom are in that 47%. A whole lot of people don’t make $50,000 per year, much less spend it in one night. He took a $77,000 deduction for his wife’s dressage horse for her therapy, but wants to close tax loopholes. I’ve seen people tased that didn’t flop around as much as Mittens. Paul Ryan is worse than Mittens. What a terrible twosome.

The author is confusing “empathy” with “sympathy”. Empathy means understanding another person’s situation because you have had a similar experience. Sympathy is an acknowledgment of another person’s situation and offering support. I would wager that Mitt has never gone without health insurance, or an income, or a home or food or any of the other situations many American citizens have been in. Therefore, he cannot offer empathy, only sympathy.

Explain it to us, Matt.

Explain how it is an act of empathy and a great victory to use the powers of state government to mandate purchase of health insurance, insure 100 percent of children and extend coverage to almost every adult in the state, yet doing that exact same thing on the federal level is socialism, an infringement on freedom and liberty and government interference between you and your doctor.

Please. You seem to think the explanation is obvious, so share it with the rest of us. Because I’m sure Mitt Romney would like to know the answer as well, given that he’s likely to be asked about it during the debates.

So Matt, the floor is yours ….

The difference is people in Mass may want socialism and the people in Texas may not. If the people in Texas want socialism they can move to Mass. If the people Mass do not they can move to Texas. However, it much easier to move to another state than a foreign country.

The one that lied about being a foreign-student to get college scholarships for foreign nationals, how about the one that has NO classmates from any of his purported schools coming forward to endorse their classmate, how about the one that spoke of distributing the wealth of others, how about the President that gave the go-ahead to revamp even more FEMA re-education camps, how about the President that okayed purchase of over a billion rounds of hollow-point ammo for the DHS to use “in case” of a civil disturbance? How about a President that costs the US tax-payers $1.4-billion per year to keep himself and his family in vacation digs and on shopping sprees at tax-payer expense? The Royal Family in Great Britain only costs their tax-payers $58-million per year and we do not have “royals” in this country. The list goes on…….

At the first Presidential Debate, the moderator should ask, “Would the real Mitt Romney, please stand up!”

The amazing thing it that Mitt is either oblivious to the inconsistencies in his responses, or he thinks he can pee pee on our shoes and convince us it’s raining.

I still want my free “Obama Phone” TBS!

And it is not stereotyping, it is reality (whether you chose to believe it or not, that is your decision). Just go to the grocery store and watch how people pay for their food with cash and and how many pay with a “SNAPS” card. “Something for nothing!” is the mantra of the typical Obama supporter whether it be the ignorant (as displayed in this video) or the selfish old baby boomer who couldn’t give a rats ass about what happens when they die in a few years. And make no mistake, I don’t think for one minute that some of the whites and the hispanics aren’t just as pathetic as the person in this video. But soon, the money is going to be gone and in fact it already has, but the feds incessant printing is hiding it for a short time. QE is kind of “Fiscal Chemotherapy” if you will. It will slow down the cancer for a short period but ultimately the cancer will win. And when the money runs out, who will they all turn to then? The answer to that is that hey will turn on each other just as Greece and Spain are doing now. The young will feed on the old and what little assets they have left and after that, hello third world nation and total government control. And everyone will be poor and as for Obama? He will be living in luxury in Hawaii laughing at all you suckers that voted for him.

As I said 2 years ago that the former “liberal Republican governor of Massachusetts” will have a problem trying to stay on message as the Republican nominee for president of the US.

He has a problem with message. And not staying on message is a deadly to a political campaign.

His message changes weekly. It’s like he used to buy a company and if it was not a money maker, get rid of it. He does politics the same way. If a message does not instantly move him into 1st place, get rid of it and try another.

Obama is not winning; Romney is giving it away.

The economy is the worst in 80 years, unemployment is over 8% for 3+ years, the deficits has been $1 trillion+ for 4 straight years, the middle east policy is in shambles and the Romney forces have millions more in campaign money and they are losing the campaign for president.

I can’t wait for the debates!! Romney can barely hold his own at a rally so it’ll be great fun to watch Obama tear him to ribbons! Ha!

DDR,

I’m not voting for either..it’s idiotic to vote for the status quo as it doesn’t matter who wins…the economy is going to remain difficult..(we are even not better off on macro level today than a year ago according to data released), we will still be screwing things up overseas, congress will remain 9% trusted by all of us,and the lobbyist, PACS and other cash laiden special interests will continue to make sure our interests in the eyes of politicians is subordinated to re-election cash requirements.

Jay would you please pay as much attention to Obama’s weakness as you do his opponents! Like his comments on the economy, the attacks on 9/11/2012. I could go on almost endlessly. Be a journalist not an Obama cultist. If you and the rest of the Obama supporting media held Obama’s feet to the fire we wouldn’t be where we are. Why can’t you hold Obama accountable?

go to the grocery store and watch how people pay for their food with cash and and how many pay with a “SNAPS” card.

I want a SNAP card just to irritate the hell out of nosy, judgmental a-holes. I want to wave that thing in the air while walking thru the grocery store with a cart full of chips, beer, and twinkies.

Oct. 3 all this is in the rear view mirror. The debates will make the convention bump look like an ant hill. O will leave Romney on stage talking to himself days later. ” I bet ya 10,000 dollars”. I bet old Perry is glad he is back in Texas, and when he sees what is going to happen to Romney he may even pardon a couple of those killers on death row to show his appreciation. O is leading and he hasn’t even swam his best event, debating, even I didn’t see that coming.

DebbieDoRight - Conservatives have always been great storytellers; it is their fatal weakness. They love casting their eyes back to the past to avoid seeing what lies right under their noses.

I guess you will divert attention away from the issue at hand…citing Mother Jones and expecting credibility is like me citing Sean Hannity…

Hey, you asked for steak — don’ t get mad at me ’cause I had to kill the cow to get it. Sorry.

Debates are generally conceded when the name calling or characterizations begin…

Awww, you don’t have to be that way.

What way?

Like I said, the election is still a few weeks off so you better get control of yourself.

Jay nice, you could really just replace the name of Romney and put in Obama at the heading of your article! We may never know the real Obama either?

Err… ahhh… psst… Marc… (whispering…) You DO realize that Jay Bookman is an opinion columnist, don’t you? He may be a reporter, but his job is to write OPINION pieces… if you need some Mittens affirmation (and I believe you do…) please see Kyle’s columns or head on over to Brietbart, or go get some drudgey gooey goodness… but here you’ll find OPINION columns…

Poor cons, there was a two month run there where they actually got their hopes up a tad, but alas, reality has set back in and thought they won’t ever acknowledge it, they have the worst Republican presidential nominee arguably ever…

@jconservative…Romney problem is that he’s a moderate pretending to be a conservative, or to use his word a “extremely conservative”. Hence, the gaffes. Newt mentioned during the primaries, that it would be difficult to distance Romney policies from Obama during the general elections.
