Alarmed by polls that they claim not to believe, conservatives are rushing to find explanations for why Mitt Romney may lose the presidential race.
You know, the race that they claim they don’t believe he’s losing.
The obvious explanation is the same one they trotted out after their 2008 defeat at the hands of Barack Obama: The media. Four years ago, you may recall, Obama supposedly got elected because the media failed to “vet” him properly by making a big deal of the Rev. Wright and Tony Rezko and the birth certificate, etc. Such criticism overlooked the fact that their own presidential candidate, John McCain, also failed to make a big deal of those things. He and his staff not only judged those claims unconvincing, they feared they would cause a backlash against the GOP should he bring them up.
You see, McCain understood that the things that get the base all riled — the things that they see with perfect clarity through their right-wing lens — just don’t look the same to the rest of the country.
This year, the press is once again coming under attack from conservatives unable to believe that they again appear to be losing an election to that Kenyan Marxist anti-colonialist. In fact, if you accept the notion that right-wing vitriol rises in direct proportion to right-wing desperation, these arguments provide more compelling evidence of Mitt Romney’s problems than any poll could offer.
For example, Mona Charen complains that “Mitt Romney is facing perhaps the most corrupt and tendentious coverage in presidential history as members of the fourth estate eschew any semblance of integrity in their attempt to skew interpretations in favor of their pinup, Mr. Obama.”
“In 1988, Michael Kinsley issued a now-famous definition: “A gaffe is when a politician tells the truth — some obvious truth he isn’t supposed to say.”
Now, almost a quarter century later, we need a new definition for the word. Here’s mine: “A gaffe is a statement that makes a Republican politician look bad.”
And of course, the always consistent Jennifer Rubin at The Washington Post, apoplectic that Obama supposedly called the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens “a bump in the road,” tell us that “Had Romney said such a preposterous and grossly insensitive thing as Obama did, there would be calls for him to quit the race; alas, when Obama does it’s not even front-page news for most of the mainstream media.”
(The fact that Obama said no such thing does not deter Rubin in her belief that the media should have condemned him for it.)
However, to get an insight into just how deep this thing really runs, you have to go to the home page of National Review, where they ask their readers an intriguing question: “Are conservative pundits too tough on Romney?”
And the answer is, of course they are!

Conservatives believe that even conservatives are biased against conservatives, THAT’S how big a conspiracy it is!

…It wasn’t like he repeated the mistake in all 57 states, or more precisely in Beaverton, Ore., in May 2008; or while traveling on the “Intercontinental” railroad in Cincinnati on Sept. 23, 2011; or perhaps, while he was speaking to the “President” of Canada in Chicago on Aug. 7, 2007.
He might not have known how to say it in “Austrian” while in Strasbourg, France, on April 5, 2009; or perhaps he was thinking of “Polish Death Camps” at the White House on May 30, 2012; or thinking about when he met with world leaders in that splendid “Asian” city, Honolulu, on Nov. 16, 2011.
He might have been thinking of the brave Navy “corpse” man at the prayer breakfast in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 5, 2010, which may not sound so strange to someone who also said: “On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today…”
All these examples were unreported or under-reported gaffes of President Obama.
The mainstream media didn’t seem to think these incidents were worthy of a media feeding frenzy, unlike those of poor Dan Quayle.

Wall Street may lean Republican this presidential election cycle, but the New York media world is staunchly Democratic.
All the major media companies, driven largely by their Hollywood film and television businesses, have made larger contributions to President Obama than to his rival, former Gov. Mitt Romney, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, a nonprofit, nonpartisan Washington-based research group that publishes the Open Secrets Web site.

I would argue that if any senator today had proclaimed President Obama had sullied the Christian religion it would have been a lead story on every news outlet.
Seems when Harry Reid says it about Mitt Romney the only people at the AJC who have discussed it are editorial columnist.

“We thought we’d bring you up to date on those protesters, the Occupy Wall Street movement. As of tonight, it has spread to more than 250 American cities, more than a thousand countries — every continent but Antarctica.”
— Diane Sawyer on ABC’s World News, October 10, 2011. On a later edition, Sawyer corrected her still-absurd hype: “…more than a thousand cities around the world.”
“Can we just enjoy Obama for a moment? Before the policy choices have to be weighed and the hard decisions have to be made, can we just take a month or two to contemplate him the way we might contemplate a painting by Vermeer or a guitar lick by the early-seventies Rolling Stones or a Peyton Manning pass or any other astounding, ecstatic human achievement? Because twenty years from now, we’re going to look back on this time as a glorious idyll in American politics, with a confident, intelligent, fascinating president riding the surge of his prodigious talents from triumph to triumph….’I am large, I contain multitudes,’ Walt Whitman wrote, and Obama lives that lyrical prophecy….Barack Obama is developing into what Hegel called a ‘world-historical soul,’ an embodiment of the spirit of the times. He is what we hope we can be.”

I already answered it once. You didn’t like that answer. But I will give it again.
See a poll came out that showed 60% of those polled do not trust the media. I do not trust the media, both liberal and conservative. Therefore it is a logical thought to include myself with those who have expressed a distrust in the media.
So see there I was asking what to do to restore my trust and the 60% who also do not trust the media.
Therefor making us a group of those who do not trust the media.
I believe to show ownership or possession of something as a group the proper term is OUR.
When a group share an opinion and have. Informed their opinion is it not Their opinion?
See you chose to make up In your mind that it was a talk radio talking point. Or at least that is what you typed.
But again I was only speaking for those who had already confirmed to share the same opinion as I do. At least we share the opinion on this issue. Thus making it our opinion that we don’t trust the media

Mr. Snarky:
I would argue that it is not quite as pecuniary as you suggest, but rather has more to do with the media as institution’s self-understanding as part of a privileged system of power. At least as important as the pure profit motive for ex. is the drive to establish contacts with individuals wielding real power, which is necessary obviously in order to report on it, but which ends up implicating those who witness it from that privileged perspective in the very power they cover, giving them a strong incentive to identity with the authors of the very power they are supposed to be viewing from a critical distance.

Obama to speak at BMO Harris Pavilion on Summerfest grounds
By Don Walker of the Journal Sentinel
Sept. 19, 2012 | (83) Comments
“President Barack Obama will speak to supporters Saturday at the BMO Harris Pavilion, the newest venue at Maier Festival Park.
The pavilion has seats for 2,500, plus benches for an additional 2,500 people. All of that seating is under cover.
At Summerfest this year, an additional 5,000 people could be accommodated at the pavilion on a standing room-only basis. Don Smiley, Summerfest’s president and CEO, said Wednesday that he was not sure whether standing room-only spaces would be made available.”

They(all 60%) has already spoke to the matter of their trust in media.
I didn’t need any authority, they had already spoke for themselves in the poll. I’m not speaking for them and just because you insist on claiming otherwise doesn’t make it true.
Again if they had not already spoke for themselves and claimed to not trust the media I would not have included the. As sharing my distrust for the media.
But they had already spoke for themselves and by doing so they shared they had the same opinion as I. Thus we share the same opinion making it our opinion. And our lack of trust. See there is a group who has already spoke and and placed themselves in the 60% lacking said trust.

I follow a college football team a little west of there. Their last coach was fired after two years where he won 3 games. The current coach is 0-4. Last year’s coach had one a game by this date. Yet, there are a lot of fans who insist the new coach is better. He “looks” more organized on the sidelines. His team is “in the game.” He “seems” more upseet about bad plays. These fans say that other teams’ fans across the state were making fun of the old coach, but, even though the new guy has yet to win a game they’re glad we’ve chanaged coaches. Other than going from bad to worse, what’s the difference in these 2 coaches? Well, the new one who “looks” better and “appears” to be better organized, etc. isn’t the same race as the former coach. That’s about it. Clearly facts say the team was horrible last year and has only gotten worse, but these people see “real” improvement based on subjective factors. There are a ton of people who don’t think that their opinions might be subconsiously swayed by someone’s race, but I tell you, whether it’s in football, politics or the boardroom, these judgements are still made by certain people. It’s up to good people to direct the discussion back to the facts and away from name calling and non-measurable criteria when you hear this type of trash talk.

“Rathergate..One event for which people were fired is of course complete evidence of so much bias.”
CBS defended the “authenticity” and “accuracy” of their reporting for weeks, until it was proven (repeatedly) beyond any doubt that the documents in question were forged. People were fired 6 months later, well after the election was decided.
Let’s not forget the MSM political contributions to Democrats. They’re not going to contribute a ton of money to people and then undermine them in their own press.
Then there’s the many studies on liberal bias in the media which found that liberal bias is injected into nearly all news subjects but most readily apparent when the topic of discussion is hot-button issues like gays, race issues, environmental issues, gun control, and entitlements.

As far as the football game, bad calls are a part of the game and always will be. Take it in stride and don’t whine and be a baby. We all get bad calls and good calls. Whether we play football, work in an office or in construction. Take it and go on.

And I will add the same is true if you write for a newspaper or if you are running for office.
And for Romney and the polls. Romney is one of those guys that the more you know him, the less you like him. And the more he talks the more the public knows about him. Hard to blame the media for that.
Time to shut down for the dayeven for oldsters like me that like to stay up at night.

Romney’s problem IS the media in that it’s actually reporting the stuff he’s saying.

If Republicans can’t win even with their very own 24 hour news show that spews nothing but conservative propaganda, and nearly complete domination of talk radio, there’s no hope for them. Awww…

Continuing the theme of extremism, in a different context, from my last post is today’s front page headline in the AJC:
“Obama: World must reject extremism”
“Confronting global tumult and Muslim anger, President Barack Obama (at the UN General Assembly) exhorted world leaders Tuesday to stand fast against violence and extremism, arguing that protecting religious rights and free speech must be a universal responsibility and not just an American obligation.”

I saw this Jay-piece earlier, couldn’t quite formulate an on-topic response but I think I’ve got a shred of an idea worth sharing now.
I think I understand the appeal of blaming the media for any misfortunes. It makes for a fabulous Unified Theory of Everything to Infinity and Beyond. If you’ve decided that virtually anyone who decides to report news for a living is by their very nature to your political left, then it would make sense that everything coming from those people is slanted against you.
(obviously I can offer a half-dozen reasons why this Unified Theory is utter horse-hockey, and frequently I do, but I’m not in the mood right now.)

As Jay Carney once explained, *The president was not understood by some people because he is a professor of law. He speaks shorthand.* And the media did not explode into laughter. Instead they all nodded wisely and discussed in detail all of the scholarly articles Obama has written, and quoted all of those glowing praises of his lectures by former students. And the media totally forgot to speak truth to power while smearing the middle class TEA party conservatives who had not the power but the courage to do just that.

Oh gee, another dolt who thinks the tea party fools are intellectuals. I think the whole teaparty “movement’ was summed up by that tea party idiot holding a sign at a rally that said, “Keep your Gov’t hands off my medicare!!!!!!!!”

Romney is a lousy politician, not to mention that his policies, as far as anyone can tell, are equally lousy. Place blame or give credit where ever you like. I personally think the real problem for the republicans is their extreme lurch to the right and their willingness to pander to the Tea Baggers and the ridiculously religious.
Re-electing the President is the most important issue we currently face as a country. A new poll now has the President up by double digits in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania. If those numbers hold, and I fully expect they will, it’s over.
This is exactly what Limbaugh, Hannity, OReilly and the like are really hoping for. For them it means job security.
