For conservatives, it’s ‘Blame the media!’ time

Alarmed by polls that they claim not to believe, conservatives are rushing to find explanations for why Mitt Romney may lose the presidential race.

You know, the race that they claim they don’t believe he’s losing.

The obvious explanation is the same one they trotted out after their 2008 defeat at the hands of Barack Obama: The media. Four years ago, you may recall, Obama supposedly got elected because the media failed to “vet” him properly by making a big deal of the Rev. Wright and Tony Rezko and the birth certificate, etc. Such criticism overlooked the fact that their own presidential candidate, John McCain, also failed to make a big deal of those things. He and his staff not only judged those claims unconvincing, they feared they would cause a backlash against the GOP should he bring them up.

You see, McCain understood that the things that get the base all riled — the things that they see with perfect clarity through their right-wing lens — just don’t look the same to the rest of the country.

This year, the press is once again coming under attack from conservatives unable to believe that they again appear to be losing an election to that Kenyan Marxist anti-colonialist. In fact, if you accept the notion that right-wing vitriol rises in direct proportion to right-wing desperation, these arguments provide more compelling evidence of Mitt Romney’s problems than any poll could offer.

For example, Mona Charen complains that “Mitt Romney is facing perhaps the most corrupt and tendentious coverage in presidential history as members of the fourth estate eschew any semblance of integrity in their attempt to skew interpretations in favor of their pinup, Mr. Obama.”

And as John Podhoretz writes:

“In 1988, Michael Kinsley issued a now-famous definition: “A gaffe is when a politician tells the truth — some obvious truth he isn’t supposed to say.”

Now, almost a quarter century later, we need a new definition for the word. Here’s mine: “A gaffe is a statement that makes a Republican politician look bad.”

And of course, the always consistent Jennifer Rubin at The Washington Post, apoplectic that Obama supposedly called the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens “a bump in the road,” tell us that “Had Romney said such a preposterous and grossly insensitive thing as Obama did, there would be calls for him to quit the race; alas, when Obama does it’s not even front-page news for most of the mainstream media.”

(The fact that Obama said no such thing does not deter Rubin in her belief that the media should have condemned him for it.)

However, to get an insight into just how deep this thing really runs, you have to go to the home page of National Review, where they ask their readers an intriguing question: “Are conservative pundits too tough on Romney?”

And the answer is, of course they are!

nro

Conservatives believe that even conservatives are biased against conservatives, THAT’S how big a conspiracy it is!

Nate Silver has this as an easy Obama win, and he knows how to massage the poll biases, etc. Republicans are just desperate now as the wealthy are panicking that gasp, they may have to end up paying 3-5% more in taxes on the ever growing gobs of money they funnel offshore whenever possible, to support the military spending that is most of our budget.

Mitt Romney is the worst candidate ever and it’s all the fault of the liberal media!!

“The liberal media pulled one over on us,” said a prominent Republican. “Most Republicans wanted a Republican that could win in November, but the liberal media would have none of it and forced us to nominate Romney. Look, everyone knows Republican voters aren’t very bright and are easily manipulated. Republicans had some very good candidates, Bachmann, Perry, Gingrich, Santorum, and Cain, all could have easily defeated Obama, but when the liberal media decided on Romney that was it. Ball game.”

Members of the liberal media will be meeting in early December to pick the Republican candidate for the 2016 presidential race. “We hope it’s someone good this time.”

Only when somebody with common sense decides to look from within for the source of their problems will this country begin to recover. Some of the GOP are beginning to sound like junkies who are always blaming others for their addictions. It’s time to look in the mirror and acknowledge the ugly truth. Our country needs that to happen in order to return things back to their rightful order and move us all forward.

Yep. Any given year, Obama would be toast as a candidate. However, we’ve been innundated with the chicken little crap since 2008, so people don’t even pay attention to that stuff anymore, unless they believe in it anyway.

I would love for a sensible candidate, from either party, to put forth a campaign based on what they would do as opposed to simply beating the current office holder with a limp noodle. I can see people’s mistakes and shortcomings with my own eyes, but if you can’t show my why you would be better, then I’m not too keen on switching just because one is bad. Well, everybody knows them lyin’ papers cause the election of librul Democrats. Romney’s getting the shaft like the man that goes in to get his colon checked. Only he don’t get the shot to numb the pain. They just keep on pushing and pushing. They never gave Romney even one day to enjoy his win in the primaries before they started in on him. It was tax return this, car elevator that, strapping the dog to the roof of the car, shipping jobs overseas, liking firing people, being a draft dodger—it just never ended. I bet right now even his wife don’t like him. Heck, by the time the press is thru with him he’ll need to pitch a tent in the dog graveyard just to take a nap.

It’s just a shame the press will make sure we don’t have a experienced businessman in the White House. Somebody that will run this country like a business. I’d like to see it. Somebody acts up and President Romney says “Yo azz is fired and here’s a box to put your things in before we ship you out of here. And you better hope we don’t sic the cops on you.”

I just hope y’all are proud of the hatchet job you done on the man. And I just bet there’s a big tax audit in his future when the election is over.

Of course, everyone knows the media speaks truth, always, and the American people celebrate the media’s neutrality in everything news.

Oh wait, from Gallup four days ago:

“WASHINGTON, D.C. — Americans’ distrust in the media hit a new high this year, with 60% saying they have little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly. Distrust is up from the past few years, when Americans were already more negative about the media than they had been in years prior to 2004.”

“Journalists” should hang their collective heads in shame.

Actually every conservative with even a shred of integrity or intellectual honesty – meaning the group of conservatives that EXLUDES the likes of the Jennifer Rubins and John Podhoretzes for example – have already said it plain as day: the problem with the Mitt Romney campaign is not the candidate himself, and it’s certainly not a gaffe here or there. As David Brooks even said in his column today, the problem runs much much deeper and is endemic to the movement as such.

It’s a movement of cretinism, run by cretins. Simple as that.

The media do in fact show a bias toward the Democrats, but grownups understand that the media periodically get it wrong and that each of us has to make up his own mind.

For example who can forget how the media bought into Bush’s Iraq invasion propaganda lock, stock and barrel. No one including the AJC had the stones to question the emperor’s new clothes then, but we now know how that turned out.

===============================================

The above statement is false, but when one has habitually come to view political spin as “truth” and as reality, then thinking, such as Ms. Charen expressed, emerges as actual truth in her mind.

As I have expressed previously, authentic truth will emerge – of its own accord – in time because as MLK expressed, “the moral arc of the universe is long but it bends toward justice.” And, authentic truth seems to be emerging in the consciousness of most Americans regarding current Republican spin.

I am absolutely appalled that Republican Party operatives have deliberately tried to suppress voter registration in states throughout this nation in order to win the presidental election, as an organized tactic. If you cannot win the hearts and minds of the American people, then you resort to such unethical and inherentlly unAmerican practices. Moreover, Americans have been manipulated to distrust their own government thanks, in large part, to Republican spin operatives such as Lee Atwater. I learned, today, that this distrust of government was first generated from President Reagan. This untruth, too, will be seen, in time, for what it is – an attempt at political spin to manipulate “truth,” in order to gain power. Authentic truth will always emerge, in time.

On a side note it seems republicans ain’t the only ones unhappy about their candidates with only 54% being excited about the two choices. While a full 40% are dissatisfied with both candidates.

The lowest level of satisfaction in 20 years. Down from 72% during 08.

Believe it or not, I don’t care what you do.

So do you think you really look at media bias without your own bias?

If you have such a bias are you really credible to speak on such issue?

The conservative right panic boils down, in my mind, to one thing. White, male, heterosexual, christians have run this country since its inception and they see that control going away. And they are scared to death.

“So do you think you really look at media bias without your own bias?”

No.

However, I can try, and do try, although in this current job that is not exactly a job requirement. But I know for a fact that most of the professional reporters I know honestly do try to avoid injecting bias into their work. Achieving that goal is probably impossible — we’re all human — but they honestly do try to do so.

That’s my main problem with Fox. They don’t even try, but still like to claim they do.

Exactly, Paulo. As Hillary Clinton said today, or yesterday, there are millionaires of much wealth the world over, but few contribute (significantly) to the well-being of their own countries.

For readers to view from your link:
—————————————

“As for social mobility, of the rich countries listed by the OECD, the three in which men’s earnings are most likely to resemble their father’s are, in this order, the UK, Italy and the US. If you are born poor or born rich in these nations, you are likely to stay that way. It is no coincidence that these three countries all promote themselves as lands of unparalleled opportunity.

Equal opportunity, self-creation, heroic individualism: these are the myths that predatory capitalism requires for its political survival.”
——————————————————-

I believe that our nation was built upon equal opportunity, self-creation, and individualism but these traits are becoming rarer in reality as plutocrats are allowed to control the globe. People need to see that authentic truth.

Good evening to all. (Btw, I had a blood pressure scare as a result of interaction on another blog yesterday, so that I will be limiting my responses to others more stringently, again, on all blogs. Nothing personal intended, if anyone should address me, and I do not respond – I may not have even seen your post.)

McCain ran a very tepid race and lost badly. I wouldn’t make too much out of what he did or didn’t chose to attack Obama on. Actually he attacked Obama on nothing – and you see where that got him.

I see your point, Paul. But it seems that the minorities they embrace tend to be atypical of the group they represent. Is Herman Cain a typical black man? Does Palin represent the views of most women? I’ll give you the South Carolina Governor (actually I met her at a conference, quite impressive).

Look, like I was saying on a a thread here the other day, hippies have worked themselves up from selling roach clips and posters in head shops to controlling the fourth estate. This is the ultimate realization of the American Dream, is it not?

Why isn’t everyone happy about this?

I can only take your word for that. But having said that many of your colleagues may be making that attempt but they are failing badly.

Would you be willing to say for all of those who do try to put their bias aside, even if they fail, there are many who do use the media with an agenda of bias?

Do you think your industries failure to place their political leanings aside is the reason the trust of the media is at all time highs?

Is it good for our country that 60% feel they cannot trust the media.

A free and honest media is essential to democracy. But it has to be a media we the people can trust. And sadly Jay, you all are not currently trusted.

What is your plan as a member of the media to regain our trust?
