NOTE: This column has been updated with new state-level unemployment numbers for August, released at 10 a.m. by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Since 2002, median household income in Georgia has fallen by 14.4 percent. While the national unemployment rate has fallen to 8.1 percent, here in Georgia it stands at 9.2 percent, unchanged since January. It is significantly higher than in Alabama, Florida or Tennessee.
In fact, Georgia’s unemployment rate has now exceeded the national average every month for the last five years, a string of 61 months that shows no sign of ending soon.
And while I don’t have numbers to support it, the data cited above and anecdotal evidence suggest that ambitious, educated young Georgians are today being forced to look outside their state to pursue their dreams. We have long been a net importer of young talent to help drive the Georgia economy; there’s good reason to believe that we have now become a net exporter.
So it seems fair to ask: What’s the plan?
The trends are all in the wrong direction, and as a state and as a metropolitan area we are underperforming the nation and many of our peers. So where’s the plan to reverse those trends? Where’s the vision?
Ten years ago this fall, Sonny Perdue became the first Republican elected governor of this state since Reconstruction. In his eight years in office, he was content to act as a caretaker, more interested in leveraging his office into personal business success than in undertaking any major initiatives. The state Legislature and much of the state’s business community seemed perfectly content to follow his lack of leadership.
Gov. Nathan Deal, elected in 2010, has been more pro-active than Perdue and to his credit took a risk in backing the proposed transportation sales-tax referendum across the state. But since the defeat of that proposal Deal has all but washed his hands of the transportation crisis that continues to threaten economic development. Unless I’ve missed it, there is no sense of urgency, vision or direction coming out of the governor’s office. Like Perdue, he is perfectly comfortable trying to advance the economic interests of individual Georgians, such as the campaign contributor to whom he steered a $4.8 million grant to drill a well at state expense. But a more broad-based prosperity program is apparently not in the works.
Part of it is undoubtedly ideology. Deal, Perdue and their fellow Republicans distrust an activist government (although again, it is interesting to note the occasions in which they manage to set that distrust aside). That ideology also instructs them to put great faith in the power of repeated tax cuts and less aggressive enforcement of regulation to draw growth.
That philosophy has had its impact. Taxes are lower. Per student, inflation-adjusted state spending on education is down 14.8 percent since 2008, the seventh-biggest drop in the country. We have little money to spend on transportation, and the Ogeechee River suffered the biggest fishkill in state history last year, and state officials have yet to act decisively against the culprit.
But after almost a decade of talk about the economic nirvana such a strategy would produce in Georgia, it seems fair to ask: Is it working? Is it — dare we ask — actually counterproductive in a modern economy? And even if we set that politically volatile question aside, is it time for this state’s elected leadership to take an active role in trying to reverse its economic decline, or is the passive attitude of the last 10 years the best we can do?

Perdue wasn’t content to just be a caretaker, he started the cuts to education funding in Georgia that IMHO are a large part of the decline of the state.

So cuts (particularly top-tier) and a war on regs, do not, in our modern economy, spur economic growth, either at the national or the state level. Neither does ‘free markets no government intervention, except when it’s in an area where I want my way.”
I suppose Republicans will keep advocating that as a cure, though.
Let’s hope the patient doesn’t die before the expected recovery.

Definitely a cause for action, but not likely to happen. The state government is primarily responsible for the job losses that cause Georgia’s economic decline. Successive layoffs of teachers and public safety workers, and the continuing failure to maintain and invest in the infrastructure have taken a toll on the state’s economy.
Voters turned down a major infrastructure improvement and job creation program that would have been financed by a penny rise in the sales tax. The Governor turned down an offer by the federal government for billions in cash to expand the Medicaid program. We fail to qualify for federal financial support for stimulus projects because our state and local governments do not have any improvements projects or plans.
Georgia will suffer economic decline so long as unthinking and selfish citizens, and the politicians who pander to them, refuse to raise the revenue needed to support essential jobs and make the infrastructure improvements needed to attract private investment.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-09-20/fed-s-kocherlakota-wants-to-see-jobless-rate-cut-to-5-dot-5-percent
Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis President Narayana Kocherlakota said the central bank should hold the main interest rate near zero until unemployment falls below 5.5 percent, marking the first time he has linked policy to a specific economic goal.
“As long as the FOMC is continuing to satisfy its price stability mandate, it should keep the fed funds rate extraordinarily low until the unemployment rate has fallen below 5.5 percent,” Kocherlakota said today in a speech in Ironwood, Michigan, referring to the policy-setting Federal Open Market Committee.
The FOMC announced a new round of quantitative easing last week to spur growth and job creation, while forecasting that the benchmark interest rate will stay at a record low through at least mid-2015. As recently as May, the Minneapolis Fed chief said the central bank may need to begin an exit from record stimulus as early as year-end.
Kocherlakota embraced a proposal by Chicago Fed President Charles Evans to calibrate monetary policy based on specific economic goals. Evans advocates holding to near-zero rates until the jobless rate falls below 7 percent or inflation reaches 3 percent.
To put it bluntly, I would file this ^^ under “well f-cking duh.”

Just because we are one of 50 states that doesn’t mean we have 1/50th of the population.

Georgia’s decline mirrors the country. Bush might have drove the car in the ditch as Obama likes to say. Obama took over the car and took it to the salvage yard and had it crushed. You only need to look as far as the cast of Characters that Obama has put around himself to know that we were not in for a recovery, but a total transformation of American ideals and values. Where we are is by design, not by bad luck. A total utopia of liberal government and policies to derail and eliminate capitalistic advancement and a way to offer a quality of life afforded to all who were willing to participate. There is room for an entitlement structure to help the helpless……Making it a way of life by design for a damn vote is a sin.

Haven’t you heard. Georgia is going for the gold–state-sanctioned charter schools. And more bigger cuts to local schools to pay for them.
Meanwhile, at the local level, the people will be presented with their options for more sales taxes to fund whatever it is that they feel deserves tax dollar funding such as roads leading to Caterpillar plants or well water for local businesses. Property taxes will necessarily grow over time in order to make up for the shortfall resulting from using scarce tax dollars to buy jobs for the people. Republicans call this form of governance, “Independence”. Independence from the oppressive form of governance imposed only by the likes of a Democrat. They shudder when they think about the terrible times they endured up until their total state makeover.
All is well now though. We as a state have survived the Sonny years and thus we have existence proof that the Dixiecrats can indeed thrive under the Republican banner. All is good. Meanwhile, back in Atlanta, Nathan is determined to not be outdone by Sonny. To start his day, Deal is served a breakfast of fresh fruit, eggs, hominy grits and toast in bed every morning by his loyal breakfast staff… “four more years,” he mumbles as he washes down his breakfast with his fresh squeezed. The subject seldom surfaces in this state. To a casual outsider you would think we have a prosperous enterprise with a group of confident operators with all the answers. Instead you have borderline corruption that is the priority, the state government leaves the corporate world alone and in turn the corporate world lets the big dog sleep. We live in a nomadic world where Coke is more involved in foreign lands than the welfare of this state, even the banks have gone international. The community is the world not Atlanta, Georgia, Robert Woodruff is now a corporate Gypsy who probably is giving his community attention and Coke money to some cause abroad instead of “home”.
Stop and take a reading of the other governors in this country. Look first at the success and then go down the column and see what leads that state. You won’t find beady eyed tight lips that think too much conversation gives their sorted plans away that you find here. I can’t imagine our governor being able to carry on a conversation with world leaders. His and our politics, intellect and personality are a mystery to most of these sophisticated decision makers of the world. I think we bottomed out with Sonny, but we almost beg for failure in this state. GAs republican leadership, like most in the southern states, has been attacking teachers and education for the last 2 plus decades. We’re now seeing the results of good teachers leaving or retiring from their lifes calling to get away from the virtirol that has been heaped upon them and can anyone blame them? If you were constantly attacked, made fun of, denigrated as “union slaves” and suffered the disrepect our teachers deal with on a daily basis would you stay on the job?
The republican leadership has painted itself in a corner with their fawning over the Grover Norquists of the world with their “pledge” to NEVER raise taxes and yet the populace of the state sees nothing but declining schools, deteriorating infranstructure and bills introduced/passed in support of the fringe.
It’s time to take a long look at who we elect and expect them to serve the need of the people and the state, not themselves or thier out of state contibutors!

Charter schools often promise to bring greater equity to education, but a new brief starts with the assumption that they fall short in delivery — and provides recommendations to fix the alleged injustice.
“Charter schools tend to be more racially segregated than traditional public schools,” said author and Penn State law professor Preston Green III, who sat on a board that considered charter-school applications in Pennsylvania. “What we tried to do is write ways to enable charter schools to promote desegregation rather exacerbate segregation.”

Just a note here to tell you that the mathematical theory you used in your point at 7:36 on jobs is faulty. Georgia is the 9th largest state in population. Republicans have the mistaken notion that by lowering taxes businesses will flock to Georgia like Canada geese, but study after study has shown that taxes are just a part of the equation and not the major part. Companies are most concerned about infrastructure, transportation, quality of life issues for their employees including housing costs, access to the arts, recreation — and quality schools!
So, the Republican legislature has squeezed off the revenue stream with tax cuts while ignoring other major components that factor into successful economic growth for the state.

The best thing to do would be nothing. Georgia has much more going for it than most of the other states. First, you have the port of Savannah. In the coming years, the U.S. will start to run trade surpluses again. Transportation and logistics is a key industrial strength of this country and Georgia will benefit from it. Second are the new technologies coming out of Georgia Tech. Venture capital has been almost invisible in metro Atlanta, but is starting a resurgence. More deals will attract more capital. Third, the oversupply of housing is starting to be worked off. This is an enormous drag on both the local and national economy. Read the pages of the Atlanta Business Chronicle, light manufacturing is starting to move into the state. The proximity to the port of Savannah will attract more over time. Unions don’t seem to have much of a presence in the private sector here.
The state – Southern Companies – does need to build more power generation facilities. There cannot be any uncertainty about the need to meet demand for electricity.

Taking a look at ALL states, those bluest of blue states have the highest per capita debt in the nation, and unemployment rates are all over the place. There is virtually no correlation between red/blue states and unemployment rates. Sorry, but the Georgia Republican bashing in this blog doesn’t pass the muster when looking at even simple comparisons to other states. Wonder why those same evil corporations are worried about their health care obligations to their employees under Bozocare. On a serious note, Georgia’s economy is (was) largely tied up in housing/development. The people in Atlanta’s burbs lived large off home equity loans and developers built homes and condos way beyond demand. We have dozens of rural banks going under because of all the bad loans they made for vacation homes in the sticks that nobody wants or can afford. When the housing bubble burst, these areas got hit the hardest. Under Barnes, the Democrats had passed a law that would have prevented a lot of the bad loans, but when Sonny boy came in, he and his got rid of it asap (we don’t want no stinkin’ rules). It will take awhile for there to be a recovery when your state was ground zero for the types of practices that caused the problem in the first place.
Not to fear, however, Nathan has an answer to the problem – give a lot of money to movie studios to make movies – that’ll help. Help the movie studios, that is.

Do some research, you’ll find that once you hit a certain point, education funding is not correlate with education results. The system is the problem, and throwing more money at it just wastes money and avoids the cause of the problem.

So, it appears that today Bozo and the gang seem to be content with the attacks in Libya being a “terrorist attack” and not a spontaneous demonstration tied to some anti-Islamic film. Susan Rice is some kind of visionary to discount the fact that the embassy was not secure, we didn’t have personnel there to help protect our embassy officials, the Libyans revealed the safe house that the Ambassador was using, thereby, contributing greatly to his death, the Muslim Brotherhood head of that country was no doubt, if not complicit, had prior knowledge of the attacks……. and all Bozo can do is soft peddle around the facts, finally admitting today that what happened was a terrorist attack aimed at taking out Americans. But we can’t, under any circumstances, hurt these delicate, caring misunderstood sons of Allah or what they call a “religion”. Bozo is not only an arrogant buffoon, but also qualifies for the milk toast empty suit of the week.

godless heathen,
I’m not sure that the fines would do the job either although some kind of financial damages are without a doubt in order. I would hate to see the end result being people losing their jobs. But what I would like to see is the man or men who knowingly poisoned our river go to prison although I doubt a criminal case can be made against them. Makes my blood boil that someone would knowingly dump toxic chemicals into our river system.

This is hillarious………………. For all of you Fox viewers and Drudge lovers…………..
“Fox and Friends” got another report about President Obama wrong on Thursday.
Wednesday was Talk Like A Pirate Day, and Obama’s campaign tweeted a gag photo of him sitting down with a pirate. The picture was taken in 2009 for the White House Correspondents Dinner that year.
“Fox and Friends,” however, falsely reported that the photo was taken recently. The morning show showed the picture with the caption “TOO BUSY FOR ISRAEL: President finds time for pirate, Letterman.”
Co-host Steve Doocy said the picture showed “what President Obama has been up to,” adding that he made sure “he didn’t forget to mark International Talk Like A Pirate Day.” Later, Brian Kilmeade said, “This pirate got a sit-down in the Oval Office yesterday.”
Media Matters reported that the Drudge Report was first to post the pirate picture with the headline “But No Time For Netanyahu…” and surmised that “Fox and Friends” probably took after the site’s framing.
Later, the show acknowledged that it had gotten the timing wrong, tweeting:
fox & friends✔
@foxandfriends
The picture we aired this morning of the President & the pirate was from 2009

More and more republican apologists – It’s Obama’s Fault Redux:
Georgia’s decline mirrors the country. Bush might have drove the car in the ditch as Obama likes to say. Obama took over the car and took it to the salvage yard and had it crushed. You only need to look as far as the cast of Characters that Obama has put around himself to know that we were not in for a recover
And………..
Obama’s frantic equivocating and dodging and weaving to talk about anything but the economy is a tacit admission that all is not well on the recession/depression trajectory
And one more………………..
You elect someone to the office of POTUS who has NO executive experience of any sort to speak of and this economy is what you get.

Jay,
Before the crash, I explained to you years ago that the growth was based on irrational lending, and people on a macro were living on their houses like an ATM machine ie selling and or refinancing. We have had flat wages since about the 70’s and this would create a crash via the above.. At the time you laughed and thought I was ‘chicken little”. Georgia was one on the biggest abusers of the above economics.
The way out of this is fairly simple. One until the over built inventory in Georgia on a macro depletes we will not see any major growth ie lack of building. Two, we must focus on our best industries in Georgia ie bio meds, technology, financial services as well as attract other businesses. Three, we must improve infrastructure, the better movement of goods and people creates economic growth. Forth we must re-tool the education system to help fill the 4 million vocational jobs now open, btw will create more jobs via their spending when we fill the jobs ie kill NCLB teach to the test 4 year college prep or you are out system. Finally we must enforce trade agreement violations that drive down wages for Americans.

And btw has the administration gotten their story straight on whether the 4 Americans in Libya were killed in a calculated terrorist attack or whether it was the result of a spontaneous mob? You would think that after 9 days that they would get it right and quit contradicting themselves.

Meanwhile, on the biased news watch….
The picture depicted Obama sitting in the Oval Office with a man in a colorful pirate outfit, complete with a red hat, eye patch and hook for a right arm. It was taken as a punch line for a joke Obama delivered to the White House Correspondents Association dinner in 2009.
The picture resurfaced Wednesday. Over an on-screen graphic that said “Arrrgh You Kidding?”, Fox ran the picture Thursday morning with host Brian Kilmeade saying, “The White House doesn’t have the time to meet with the prime minister of Israel, but this pirate got a sit-down in the Oval Office yesterday.”
Later, with “yo-ho-ho” music in the background, Fox showed the picture as its “Shot of the Morning,” with host Steve Doocy saying, “Here’s a quick look at what President Obama is up to, making sure he didn’t forget to mark International Talk Like a Pirate Day.”
After the show ended, the “Fox & Friends” Twitter feed noted that the pirate picture was from 2009.
Doocy also tweeted: “By the way, our picture of the president with the pirate was from 2009. How time flies!”
So……are they so inept that they didn’t know the picture was from 2009? Or is it they are so biased and dishonest they intentionally wanted their audience to believe that this was what the President was doing “yesterday.”

Since Jay likes the national unemployment numbers let’s use them. I understand that the “educated”, that is college graduates have an unemployment rate of a little over 4%. It is the minorities and the poor who suffer the most under the failed obama economic policy This is particularly true of african americans who are unemployed at a rate of some 14%.plus or minus. With the large minority population in Georgia it seems to me that Georgia’s over all rate is as good as the national average and maybe even better. .

Granny Godzilla,
That would be a valid point except that this isn’t 2015. Its still 2012 and the middle east is a powder keg not just with the riots and embassy protests but also the seriousness of a looming showdown with Iran over nuclear weaponry. Considering that Israel is probably pondering an airstrike against Iran with or without U.S. help you would think the seriousness of that possibility would be enough to garner a sitdown between the 2 men. The fact that Obama doesn’t seem to think a possible Israeli airstrike and possible war with Iran doesn’t warrant that much attention speaks volumes about his judgment.

Willie lynch: Remember their slogan in 2008? “Country First!” They must have meant some other country.
Your comments reminded me of something………Oh yeah that’s right, the republican, “Contract With America” Here are some highlights…………:
On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:
* FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress; [Ironic isn’t it?]
* SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
* THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
* FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
* FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
* SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
* SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
* EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.
Thereafter, within the first 100 days of the 104th Congress, we shall bring to the House Floor the following bills, each to be given full and open debate, each to be given a clear and fair vote and each to be immediately available this day for public inspection and scrutiny.
1. THE FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT: A balanced budget/tax limitation amendment and a legislative line-item veto to restore fiscal responsibility to an out- of-control Congress, requiring them to live under the same budget constraints as families and businesses. [Ironic!]
2. THE TAKING BACK OUR STREETS ACT:
3. THE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY ACT
4. THE FAMILY REINFORCEMENT ACT)
5. THE AMERICAN DREAM RESTORATION ACT: A S500 per child tax credit, begin repeal of the marriage tax penalty, and creation of American Dream Savings Accounts to provide middle class tax relief.
6. THE NATIONAL SECURITY RESTORATION ACT:
7. THE SENIOR CITIZENS FAIRNESS ACT:
8. THE JOB CREATION AND WAGE ENHANCEMENT ACT: Small business incentives, capital gains cut and indexation, neutral cost recovery, risk assessment/cost-benefit analysis, strengthening the Regulatory Flexibility Act and unfunded mandate reform to create jobs and raise worker wages. (Bill Text) (Description)
9. THE COMMON SENSE LEGAL REFORM ACT
10. THE CITIZEN LEGISLATURE ACT: A first-ever vote on term limits to replace career politicians with citizen legislators.
Further, we will instruct the House Budget Committee to report to the floor and we will work to enact additional budget savings, beyond the budget cuts specifically included in the legislation described above, to ensure that the Federal budget deficit will be less than it would have been without the enactment of these bills.
Respecting the judgment of our fellow citizens as we seek their mandate for reform, we hereby pledge our names to this Contract with America.
Oh the irony! It hurts……..it just hurts……………

Who are these other players? Seriously. Who else wields the type of influence and diplomacy that we do between the Israelis and the Arabs?
And I don’t think Netanyahu is asking for too much. A half a day or a one day sitdown to discuss some pretty hot events in the most volatile region of the world seems wise to me.
And if a shooting war takes place because we just ignored everything then what’s going to happen to the price of oil? Are Dems and their constituents looking forward to $5-$10 a gallon gas? It would be a devastating blow to our already fragile economy, it could trigger another recession, and once again would hurt poor and middle class people the most.

…college graduates have an unemployment rate of a little over 4%
No, it is actually 5.2%.
And even so, the corporate destruction of capitalism is taking a huge toll…
About 1.5 million, or 53.6 percent, of bachelor’s degree-holders under the age of 25 last year were jobless or underemployed, the highest share in at least 11 years. In 2000, the share was at a low of 41 percent, before the dot-com bust erased job gains for college graduates in the telecommunications and IT fields.
Out of the 1.5 million who languished in the job market, about half were underemployed, an increase from the previous year.

I agree with this article except for the final few words: “. . .or is the passive attitude (of Georgia’s leadership) of the last 10 years the best we can do?”
——————————————————————————————-
I believe that the Republican leadership of Georgia has been not been passive at all, but has, in fact, been quite active in following the national Republican ideological agenda in Georgia. For example, I would encourage all readers to check out Jim Galloway’s “Political Insider” column on the poll taken to assess the charter school movement in Georgia (Sept. 19, 2012).
Galloway says in his opening line, “The forces behind Georgia’s charter school amendment to the state constitution are out with a new poll this morning that shows voters still comfortably in favor of the measure.”
As the last poster on that thread, I suggested that readers to check out information about this polling group at this link: http://www.mclaughlinonline.com/5
There, readers will learn that this is a Republican polling group, not a non-partisan one. On the polling group’s website are these words “The Washington Times cites McLaughlin and Associates as one of the best Republican polling firms.” The clients of this group include Gov. Nathan Deal, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, the Republican National Committee, the Republican Governor’s Association, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee, Republican Senators Toomey, Lugar, Shelby, Sessions, among others Republican senators. The CEO and Partner John McLaughlin writes on the “Home Page” of this website that his firm had been “working with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor to help him win a majority in Congress.”
This polling group, evidently then, acts to help clients win elections, not to simply give them polling results. Moreover, in previewing the questions that this polling group submitted to Georgians on the constitutional amendment, I found the questions to be quite leading in promoting the value of this constitutional amendment. That is my opinion. And, it is, also, my opinion that the Republican leaders in Georgia have not been “passive” in governing Georgia. It appears that they have, in fact, been actively engaged in establishing within Georgia policies that are very similar to those advocated by national Republican ideologues of power and influence. Furthermore, I believe that their efforts, in this ideological direction, have caused the relatively poor results in Georgia, that are mentioned in the above article.

The Georgia GOP has been winning the propaganda war for more than a decade. That’s the only thing you can legitimately put in their “win” column. (Certainly not our economy or education!) The majority of Georgians believe whatever they’re shoveling, no matter how much it stinks. The majority of Georgians will not bother themselves to fact check anything.
Now, it would be patently unfair to simply blame the Georgia GOP (who gets shiz tons of money from outside the state, to be sure.) BLAME THE DEMOCRATS too. The Georgia Democrats are too busy squabbling amongst themselves to fight the propaganda war. The National Democrats don’t give us any money at all besides paying a couple of state-level salaries. Below is an explanation from the Daily Caller regarding July unemployment that explains quite well why the problems in Georgia are caused by the economic policies or lack threof by Obama rather than the Republican government in Georgia.
President Obama’s policies have been devastating to minority communities and to the most vulnerable in our society. America is suffering through the longest period of high unemployment since the Great Depression: Unemployment has been stuck over 8 percent for almost three-and-a-half years under Obama, after averaging only 5.3 percent under President George W. Bush. Minority communities have been hit much harder: African-American unemployment is 14.4 percent, and black youth unemployment is an obscene 44.2 percent. Latino unemployment is 11 percent. I recited these figures recently to a gathering of Pacific Islanders in Nevada, which is being crushed by the highest unemployment rate and worst housing crisis in the country. They didn’t need to hear these numbers to know that their community is hurting. If you had tried to tell these folks, three-and-a-half years into the Obama presidency, that their ongoing misery was President Bush’s fault, they would rightly have considered that to be an insult to their intelligence.

I too moved to Georgia over 23 years ago…the state was booming beyond comprehension…the head hunters would leave messages on your voicemail almost begging to hire you…other than widespread city, state, and county (i.e., Gwinnett County) government corruption, where “is” the leadership?; where “are” the plans for reform?; is there anyone left to trust who can responsibly take care of our interests? Just like the federal government, elected officials MUST compromise and agree to disagree to jump start the economy in Georgia. The states which are doing well have Republican governors with a Democrat congress and are doing well, i.e., Ohio, Virginia, etc. Here’s how to get started: 2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

You noted that there “appears to be an excellent chance” of him moving up parliamentary elections to early next year. Maybe. Maybe not. Point is that its a hypothetical that we don’t know for sure and can’t see into the future with clarity and predict.
“Putting Bibi in his place is masterful judgement.”
How??? In what way, shape, or form is a personal slight a masterful judgment? Is Obama so thin skinned that he is going to run U.S. foreign policy based on personal likes and dislikes and getting his feelings hurt because the men don’t personally like each other? Is he that petty? Considering what’s at stake what we need is leadership- not a guy who is so small that he’s going to ignore our best friend in the most volatile region of the world just as that region is heating up.

What a difference in tone and substance since 2004:
Unemployment rates were lower than a year earlier in 46 states, higher
in 3 states and the District of Columbia, and unchanged in 1 state.
Washington recorded the largest over-the-year unemployment rate decrease
(-2.1 percentage points), followed by Vermont (-1.7 points) and Kentucky
and North Carolina (-1.6 points each). Twelve additional states had over-
the-year rate declines of at least 1.0 percentage point. No state posted
an unemployment rate increase from September 2003 larger than 0.3 percentage
point. The District of Columbia had a rate increase of 1.1 percentage points
over the year.

Here is proof positive that you just can’t cure stupid. No matter what proof you give these idiot republicans that their cut taxes and shovel all money to the rich policies don’t work, the brain dead will come up with responses like these. We have had 10 years of complete Republican dominance in Georgia politics and these folks can’t see the policies aren’t working and things are getting worse. Yet Mighty Righty says blame Obama? Really?
This is why things will never get better. There are too many people that are too stupid to think for themselves and fail to see that the talk show hosts aren’t giving them truth, they are giving them self serving propaganda. Even the dumbest of dogs will learn if you rub it’s nose in it’s crap enough times, but these people don’t. It’s really really sad, but there is nothing to be done about it.
Their stupidity unfortunately is dragging us ALL down. They ignore Sonny’s crooked land deals. They ignore Nathan’s stealing and payoffs. They ignore Balfour’s dirty dealings. Our education system is in the toilet and their solution is a double secret commission to steal what’s left of local school money and give it to their buddies under the guise of “charter schools” since they have already stolen all they can and run the schools into the ground. Yet folks like those quoted above give them a free pass. All the Republicans have to do is holler, “I love Jesus and abortion is murder” and all is forgiven. Hell they can even date their mistresses in public and take them to the church’s where they are pontificating professing their great faith. it’s disgusting, but like I said, you just can’t cure stupid. How people can continue to listen to the lies and support this I will never be able to figure out.
And to think, I once thought no one could be dumber than a Dade County Democrat. Boy was I ever wrong………….

Your high school geek assumption about taxes as “confiscation”, based on a crude Randianism and which sadly has now seeped well beyond the high school walls and infects large parts of our entire adult political discourse, must be exposed for what it is: a laughable misunderstanding of the nature of what taxes are and what the public is. Unlike the Arabs they don’t kill our ambassadors, bomb and or attack our various embassies, and commit various other terrorist bombings against us including 9/11 and too many terrorist attacks to really go into”
Mr. Doom – you seem to have a VERY low standard for “friendship”. How would our lives be different if the US decided to care more about the US than about Israel?

“Georgia is home to nearly 2 million households that pay no income tax. This puts it near the top of the list of states where the 47 percent reside. ”
You need to go back and look that the policies of that democrat turned republican governor named Perdue that actively recruited retiring seniors to relocate here. That has played a part in those numbers.

Ehud Barak sings praises of Obama administration
Posted by
CNN’s Dana Davidsen
(CNN) – Israel’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ehud Barak said the Obama White House has been the most supportive administration throughout the two countries’ diplomatic relations on matters of Israeli security, in an interview to air Monday on “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.”
Barak -also a former prime minister of Israel – said that though historically administrations from both political parties have supported the Jewish state President Obama’s support, security-wise, is unparalleled.
– Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker
“I think that from my point of view as defense minister they are extremely good, extremely deep and profound. I can see long years, um, administrations of both sides of political aisle deeply supporting the state of Israeli and I believe that reflects a profound feeling among the American people,” said Barak. “But I should tell you honestly that this administration under President Obama is doing in regard to our security more than anything that I can remember in the past.”
Asked by Blitzer if the president has been more supportive than previous administrations’ Barak said, “In terms of the support for our security, the cooperation of our intelligence, the sharing of sorts in a very open way even when there are differences which are not simple sometimes, I’ve found their support for our defense very stable.”
Pressed if the Obama administration has been the most supportive ever, throughout history of U.S.-Israeli relations, Barak affirmed, saying that from his recollection of President Carter forward – “the defense relation between Israel and the United States are extremely stable and good.”
Barak continued, “It doesn’t mean that we agree on everything, it’s very well known that differences between our government and the American administration about peace process about other issues, but I believe that in regard to world turmoil, in regard to Hezbollah, in regard to what happens in Syria, in regard to Iran, we basically – basically agree on the diagnosis. We don’t agree on the prognosis on some of the issues.”
Barak’s comments come as presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney departs the country as part of a three-country tour that took him from London to Israel and now Poland as he campaigns for the presidency on foreign soil.

Spending on education is an investment, not redistribution. that lack of understanding is part of the problem in Georgia. It costs $10-15,000 per year to educate a student. It costs $100-150,000 per year to incarcerate a prisoner. The longer a student stays in school, the less likely he is to become a prisoner. Accordingly, the return on investment in education is extremely high. But, there has been a boom in building private prisons, and that reflects our values and poor choices in investments.
Last year the vegetable crop production was hurt by lack of labor. When the housing market rebounds, construction in Georgia will be hurt by lack of the same labor. Many of the folks who picked the vegetables and built the houses are sitting in the private prisons. Again, poor investment decisions.
Walmart depends on the state of Georgia to provide health insurance for many of its employees. Gerogia’s attitude might give us a problem even with Walmart. Also, the employees at the Georgia ports can choose to live in SC or Georgia. Which of these states is capable of making a smart decision for those potential employees?

The problem with Georgia’s economy is that it was overbuilt and full of builders and construction companies that did work all over the country. Since that segment of the economy was hardest hit, Georgia is lucky that it hasn’t suffered more than it has.

from the linkee @ 11.06:
On whether Muslims regard Islam as a spiritual matter or as an ideology
“We can measure this both by looking at what they say and looking at what they do. Because if members of a religious minority were really believing this … believing that religion is a guiding ideology that should control their actions, then they would be doing things — they would be ignoring the laws, they would be going to the mosque very often. …
“What we find is the level of religiosity, of religious observance among Muslims when they come to the West, tends to fall fairly quickly to approximately the level of religious observance of the people around them. So when Muslims come to France from the Arab countries of North Africa, they tend to become not very religiously observant. About a fifth of them become outright atheist, which is similar to the rate of French Christians, and only about maybe 5 percent of them attend a mosque regularly. When they move to the United States, they become about as religious as American Christians are, which is fairly religious.
“So, yeah, about 47 percent of American Muslims will say, ‘I think of myself as Muslim first and American second,’ but that’s almost exactly the same rate that non-Muslim Americans say, that American Christians say. Just shy of half of American Christians will say, ‘I think of myself as Christian first, and American second.’ So they tend to be loyal to their faith at about the same rate as Christians do in whatever country they arrive in.”

Here’s how Obama explains his broken promises….
Today, Ramos repeatedly pressed Obama to acknowledge he had not kept that promise. “I don’t want to get lost in translation,” Ramos said in Spanish. Today’s forum was conducted in Spanish and the questions translated for the president. “You promised… And a promise is a promise. And with all due respect, you didn’t keep that promise.”
“I am happy to take responsibility for the fact that we didn’t get it done,” Obama said. “But I did not make a promise that I would get everything done a hundred percent when I was elected as president. What I promised was that I would work every single day as hard as I can to make sure that everybody in the country, regardless of who they are, what they look like, where they come from, that they would have a fair shot at the American dream. And that promise I kept.”

For the folks with their head buried in the sand (which is most of the crew commenting on this blog), countdown starts Sunday. Enjoy!:
100 Days Until Taxmageddon
Sunday will mark the start of the 100-day countdown to “Taxmageddon” – the date the largest tax hikes in the history of America will take effect. They will hit families and small businesses in three great waves on January 1, 2013:
First Wave: Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief
In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for small business owners, families, and investors (later re-upped by President Obama and Democrat Congress in 2010). The following tax hikes will occur on January 1, 2013:
Personal income tax rates will rise on January 1, 2013. The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which the majority of small business profits are taxed). The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent. All the rates in between will also rise. Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates. The full list of marginal rate hikes is below:
-The 10% bracket rises to a new and expanded 15%
-The 25% bracket rises to 28%
-The 28% bracket rises to 31%
-The 33% bracket rises to 36%
-The 35% bracket rises to 39.6%
Higher taxes on marriage and family coming on January 1, 2013. The “marriage penalty” (narrower tax brackets for married couples) will return from the first dollar of taxable income. The child tax credit will be cut in half from $1000 to $500 per child. The standard deduction will no longer be doubled for married couples relative to the single level.
Middle Class Death Tax returns on January 1, 2013. The death tax is currently 35% with an exemption of $5 million ($10 million for married couples). For those dying on or after January 1 2013, there is a 55 percent top death tax rate on estates over $1 million. A person leaving behind two homes and a retirement account could easily pass along a death tax bill to their loved ones.
Higher tax rates on savers and investors on January 1, 2013. The capital gains tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 23.8 percent in 2013. The top dividends tax will rise from 15 percent this year to 43.4 percent in 2013. This is because of scheduled rate hikes plus Obamacare’s investment surtax.
Second Wave: Obamacare Tax Hikes
There are twenty new or higher taxes in Obamacare. Some have already gone into effect (the tanning tax, the medicine cabinet tax, the HSA withdrawal tax, W-2 health insurance reporting, and the “economic substance doctrine”). Several more will go into effect on January 1, 2013. They include:
The Obamacare Medical Device Tax begins to be assessed on January 1, 2013. Medical device manufacturers employ 409,000 people in 12,000 plants across the country. This law imposes a new 2.3% excise tax on gross sales – even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year. Exempts items retailing for <$100.
The Obamacare Medicare Payroll Tax Hike takes effect on January 1, 2013. The Medicare payroll tax is currently 2.9 percent on all wages and self-employment profits. Starting in 2013, wages and profits exceeding $200,000 ($250,000 in the case of married couples) will face a 3.8 percent rate.
The Obamacare “Special Needs Kids Tax” comes online on January 1, 2013. Imposes a cap on FSAs of $2500 (now unlimited). Indexed to inflation after 2013. There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children. There are thousands of families with special needs children in the United States, and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington, D.C. (National Child Research Center) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can be used to pay for this type of special needs education. This Obamacare cap harms these families.
The Obamacare “Haircut” for Medical Itemized Deductions goes into force on January 1, 2013. Currently, those facing high medical expenses are allowed a deduction for medical expenses to the extent that those expenses exceed 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI). The new provision imposes a threshold of 10 percent of AGI. Waived for 65+ taxpayers in 2013-2016 only.
Third Wave: The Alternative Minimum Tax and Employer Tax Hikes
When Americans prepare to file their tax returns in January of 2013, they’ll be in for a nasty surprise—the AMT won’t be held harmless, and many tax relief provisions will have expired. These tax increases will be in force for BOTH 2012 and 2013. The major items include:
The AMT will ensnare over 31 million families, up from 4 million last year. According to the left-leaning Tax Policy Center, Congress’ failure to index the AMT will lead to an explosion of AMT taxpaying families—rising from 4 million last year to 31 million. These families will have to calculate their tax burdens twice, and pay taxes at the higher level. The AMT was created in 1969 to ensnare a handful of taxpayers.
Full business expensing will disappear. In 2011, businesses can expense half of their purchases of equipment. Starting on 2013 tax returns, all of it will have to be “depreciated” (slowly deducted over many years).
Taxes will be raised on all types of businesses. There are literally scores of tax hikes on business that will take place. The biggest is the loss of the “research and experimentation tax credit,” but there are many, many others. Combining high marginal tax rates with the loss of this tax relief will cost jobs.
Tax Benefits for Education and Teaching Reduced. The deduction for tuition and fees will not be available. Tax credits for education will be limited. Teachers will no longer be able to deduct classroom expenses. Coverdell Education Savings Accounts will be cut. Employer-provided educational assistance is curtailed. The student loan interest deduction will be disallowed for hundreds of thousands of families.
Charitable Contributions from IRAs no longer allowed. Under current law, a retired person with an IRA can contribute up to $100,000 per year directly to a charity from their IRA. This contribution also counts toward an annual “required minimum distribution.” This ability will no longer be there.

Headline (ABC): “Soldier’s E-mail Changes House Defense Chair’s Position on Afghanistan”
“Army Staff Sgt. Matthew Sitton knew there was the threat of casualties when he deployed to Afghanistan for his third tour of duty, but he said he was “totally on board with sacrifice for [his] country.”
What he didn’t agree with, though, was his chain of command, who mandated Sitton’s 25-man platoon to take twice-daily patrols through fields littered with explosive devices. The platoon was averaging an amputee a day, Sitton said, and since the patrols didn’t have an end goal, he didn’t see the point of risking such extreme danger.
Sitton was so concerned with his platoon’s safety and morale that in June, he wrote a measured letter to Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Fla., who chairs the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.
“I feel myself and my soldiers are being put into unnecessary positions where harm and danger are imminent,” Sitton wrote in an e-mail. ”There is no endstate or purpose for the patrols given to us from our higher chain of command, only that we will be out for a certain time standard.”
“We are walking around aimlessly through grape rows and compounds that are littered with explosives,” he wrote.”

Being a Republican didn’t USED to mean that you had to lie and cover up for your crooked ass leaders. As a matter of fact it used to mean the opposite. Once upon a time being a Republican meant you actually stood for honor and integrity. Those times seem to be long past. I’m beginning to find I view folks who say they are Republicans with the same mistrust as I view someone who says they are a Baptist or a Frenchman. That saddens me.
If you have any honor and integrity then it’s time you stood up for it banded together with some like minded folks and took your damn party back. Bruno comes to mind as a partner for you. Kick the asshats like Limbaugh and crowd OUT, dismantle their lying propaganda machine and restore the integrity of the party. I can tell you that neither Perdue nor Deal have been benign in their leadership. Before there was a financial crisis, Perdue started the assault on public education which Deal and the legislature have actively, enthusiastically, you might say hysterically continued. That assault has seen 4 billion dollars cut from state education budgets in a decade. This in a state that has always been near the bottom of both education spending and achievement. One result has been “experts” who wouldn’t know a charter school from a pig farm extolling the virtues of charter schools and voucher systems, neither of which are viable for the majority of Georgia’s students. The objective seems to be squeeze school systems until they fail, then say “I told you so”. I guess our hapless leaders feel that if they keep their electorate uneducated, they’ll be more free to concentrate on their real profession; making money for themselves and their friends.

Rejected. Find me another Middle Eastern country that gets $3+ billion in annual aid and access to US intelligence assets. There’s one, but I don’t think you’ll be happy when you figure out which one it is.
“Apparently it doesn’t buy any loyalty or friendship.”
Indeed. The Israeli government has been quite confrontational in the past with our Presidents and with Congress over the amount of aid they receive. You’d think they’d show some appreciation.
“At least with the Israelis we are getting something for our money.”
Like what? Specifics, please.
“I think you need to read your own link on the USS Liberty. It was attacked in the middle of the 6 day war and was a mistake.”
I think you need to read it in the first place, because there are still-living Liberty crewmembers who don’t believe that for a moment.
“Big difference between a mistake as in friendly fire and intentional terrorist attacks. I’m surprised you seem to equate that with terrorist attacks.”
As I said, you need to educate yourself on the circumstances and investigation of the attack, because there are still HUGE holes in the Israeli story.
And just in case you weren’t aware of it, the Israelis had to be threatened to stay out of Desert Storm. The Israelis demanded to be part of the attacking force, but we refused, citing the need to retain the Arab allies, intel and goodwill we had in that fight. When the Israelis threatened to send their aircraft to join in any fight they observed in Iraq, they were told that if any of their air assets entered an active combat zone without the proper IFF squawk code, they’d be shot down as suspected hostiles.
The Israelis then stood down.

You tell ‘em Fred! I posted a few days back that the last good republican was Eisenhower, and a few people said “Oh No! There are still some good republicans!” But I say, “Where are they?”
Did these same good republicans have to sign a “purity pledge” before they could get a dime from the republican party? Did they have to fall in lock step with the rank and file or be ostracized if they weren’t?
Did they have the balls to stand up and say, “THIS AIN’T RIGHT!!” when all of these scurrilous “voter laws” have suddenly popped up since the 08 election? What about all the legislature directly targeted at women and their right to choose? Equal pay for women – any good republican had anyythng to say to that? Or how many republicans voted NO to the “Give GI Joe a JOb” bill; did any of their rank and file castigate them for that? Nope.
If some would just stand up for what’s right, it’ll make a big difference. Some of the ideals of republicans are found in some democrat principles and vice versa — but the fringes have silenced the voice of reason and have become militant and unhinged!
It’s time for a viable third party — truth be told there are more “middle of the roaders” than there are true right or left people. it’s just that now in this time, we only have a choice between the devil and the devils brother Bubba. What choice is that?

You are absolutely correct in your assessment above and the reason is we (the U.S.) would have stopped their planned surprise attack which was their only chance to win. Therefore, they made the decision to try to sink the ship with all hands lost.
To this day, the U.S. Congress has not held full hearings on the matter. The USS Liberty crew meets annually and they are very bitter ……… obviously.

The R party is not my party, I’m Libertarian but am forced to vote R in some circumstances. I did read a bit on Deal and saw that he did resign while under ethics scrutiny. Now he did that supposedly to begin his run for gov and I suspect just to get away from it. But if we go by that standard there are lots of Congressman and plenty from the Dem side like Rangel who’ve been investigated for ethics allegations.
Looks to me like he has some questionable dealings but no arrests, no convictions, just questionable business arrangements but nothing that can be proven. I just think that if you’re going to make outright allegations of stealing and bribery that you should be able to back it up with a link. And I know you try to be non partisan Fred but it seems of late that you reserve all your criticism for Rs and R pols and none for the Ds. Plenty of corruption, bumper sticker sloganeering, and brain washed folks on the left.

“Rejected. Find me another Middle Eastern country that gets $3+ billion in annual aid and access to US intelligence assets. There’s one, but I don’t think you’ll be happy when you figure out which one it is.”
Counter rejected. Egypt alone gets 2 billion per year and is still getting that money despite what just happened to our embassy. How much does Iraq get sir? Haven’t looked it up but I’ll bet its in the megabillions. Collectively the Arab states as a whole get far more aid than Israel so right there your argument is done.
“At least with the Israelis we are getting something for our money.”
Like what? Specifics, please.
Like a trading relationship and an ally in the Middle East and someone who doesn’t routinely attack us.
“I think you need to read it in the first place, because there are still-living Liberty crewmembers who don’t believe that for a moment.”
I am aware of that. But the Israelis claimed it was an accident and I have to go with that as opposed to what someone thinks or wants to believe painful as it might be to the sailors of the Liberty.
“Big difference between a mistake as in friendly fire and intentional terrorist attacks. I’m surprised you seem to equate that with terrorist attacks.”
“As I said, you need to educate yourself on the circumstances and investigation of the attack, because there are still HUGE holes in the Israeli story.”
I did. And I don’t see much of a purpose or much that Israel would gain by attacking pretty much its only friend. But for the sake of argument even if you could prove it was a malicious attack it would tick me off but even then I still don’t see them as being a regular danger to the U.S. Now if they started sponsoring terrorism or being sympathetic to anti- U.S. operatives then I would have a problem with them. But overall its ludicrous to compare Israel’s relations to us vis a vis overall Arab hostility to us.
The last part about them wanting to participate in the war is irrelevant.
I’m stepping out but if you want to respond I may be back towards the end of the day. Good talking to ya Joe. Doomy.

To be honest I have a somewhat skewed view of GA public education. I am in a part of GA where the public schools are doing pretty good work–in fact, I just recently attended a “parent involvement night” and, after speaking with my child’s teachers, feel better about my local situation than ever.
And yet I don’t see why the state as a whole is hell-bent on reducing spending in this area.
So, make of that what one will.

I don’t mean this too critically but you have not lived in that “real world”.
There are ALWAYS rules/regulations (and even direct orders) that are disobeyed. It’s just the way it is.
I will never forget after having been through the discipline of Marine boot camp, infantry training, sniper training, etc., etc. a “briefing” we received by a major just before we went to Nam. It was against everything we had been taught to date ……….. to obey orders without question.
He basically said there might be a time when as individuals we might have to disobey an order ………. and we would have to live with that decision.
That really confused me until I got to Nam where it all became very clear.
Sometimes you disobeyed (and there are many ways to do it) an order to kill someone that should not be killed (you just miss). Sometimes because a captain wanted to get a medal you “disobeyed” to put an ambush in a certain area (to just get Marines killed for his medal). I could go on and on but you get the picture ……………. you “often” do what is best for you and those under your control and to save lives.
It’s just the real world and if you don’t think it is happening “right now” in Iraq and Afghanistan you are very naive about military ground combat in particular.

I think there is so much subjectivity that it’s tough to do it. It seems like whoever is doing a “ranking” can pick and choose and massage the data to get pretty much any result they want. While I keep hearing how low we are ranked, I never can seem to find it. Until you posted that link 27th was the highest I’ve seen us.

Nice try. We too, even as Americans have contempt of court proceedings. Such isn’t exclusive even of monotheism. You won’t hear these kinds of things from the Prince of Peace.
But for the Muslims
But this is from The Prophet himself:
89. They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another). So take not Auliya’ (protectors or friends) from them, till they emigrate in the Way of Allah (to Muhammad ). But if they turn back (from Islam), take (hold) of them and kill them wherever you find them, and take neither Auliya’ (protectors or friends) nor helpers from them.
Sura An-Nisa’ Verse 89
They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another). So take not Auliya’ (protectors or friends) from them, till they emigrate in the Way of Allah (to Muhammad ). But if they turn back (from Islam), take (hold) of them and kill them wherever you find them, and take neither Auliya’ (protectors or friends) nor helpers from them.
Clear directions to kill apostates that to this day are being carried out.
Are Jews and Christians doing these things? No, and since modern times it has not been church policy to do so.

This is purely opinion based upon the following facts. The ruling party has eviscerated most of the essential government agencies in the state – Department of Corrections-probation division; Department of Human Resources-Family and Children Division; Judicial Branch; Department of Natural Resources-enforcement division; and local education. For legislators and governors who want to do away with traditional public education, they fail o consider how business location decisions strongly rank the health of traditional public education . The middle school truancy rate is strongly correlated to the high school dropout rate that is strongly correlated to young adult felony crime. Rehabilitation has been non-existent because probation officers have obscene case load numbers.
The government is falling into a sinkhole because we’ve elected people who promised to send it there. These legislators cannot propose solutions because every reasonable solution involves doing things they’ve promised not to do. So they go every year and pass new criminal laws, legislate morals and generally accomplish nothing to help our economy. In a way they can’t understand, they have created such a dysfunctional government, it is just where they promised to remove it – “in the way of progress”

Scout posted an article last night from an ex Navy Seal. He wrote a book while still in the Navy that was critical of Obama and how the war was being conducted. DOD said he had to resign or face a dishonorable discharge. So he resigned and released the book.
In the book he claims due to a “directive” he could not carry live ammunition. DDR and I picked up on that line and asked Scout about, plus I researched it myself.
Of course, I can’t find any directive stating such. Scout is now saying it could have been a verbal directive.
I could be wrong, but I say the guy is embellishing his story. We can all see the war in Afghanistan hasn’t been a success. Mostly due to the tribal culture that they adhere to and not from the military’s efforts.
I know the man has 1st hand experience, but when you say “directive” that is not an opinion.

So, the bottom line with Georgia’s education system apparently is that we spend a lot of money to get results that may be adequate and to fix that, our Republican leaders want to give the state the ability to further cut funding to the local schools and use that money to create state chartered schools run by the likes of Phoenix so they can suck the life out of more people than they currently have access to. Or something like that.

It’s not just Georiga with job problems.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Unemployment rates rose in more than half of U.S. states last month, the latest evidence that hiring remains tepid across the country.

Scout posted an article last night from an ex Navy Seal. He wrote a book while still in the Navy that was critical of Obama and how the war was being conducted.

Oh THAT traitorous scumbag POS. He is lower than whale dung. One hard firm rule in Spec Ops is what happens in Spec Ops STAYS in Spec ops. That “SEAL” is a cowardly turd who has lost the respect of his peers. only someone like SCOUT who is ate up with irrational hatred for our President would show any “respect” for him. He should have been courtmartialed and tossed in jail like the scum he is.

Bookman blog lore has it that by posting “Sons of Confederate Veterans”, is enough to bring about a new thread — kinda like saying “Bloody Mary” or “Betelgeuse” only with less consequences.

4:89 They long that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved so that you might be on the same level; so take not from among them friends until they flee (their homes) in Allah’s way. Then if they turn back (to hostility), seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take no friend nor helper from among them,
4:90 Except those who join a people between whom and you there is an alliance, or who come to you, their hearts shrinking from fighting you or fighting their own people. And if Allah had pleased, He would have given them power over you, so that they would have fought you. So if they withdraw from you and fight you not and offer you peace, then Allah allows you no way against them.
This is from the Maulana Muhammad Ali translation. As you can see the placement of a word here or there can greatly change what might be gotten from reading a verse. For instance,
The King James Version reads: “Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen…. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.”
Is this a condemnation of the practice of adorning Christmas tree’s? The point is without context one cannot think reading selected verses will provide an accurate assessment of any subject. Just saying

Scout,
About the USS Liberty. It happened on June 8, 1967. The Six Day war had started June 5, 1967. I’m not choosing sides here and you know I hate any loss of life in the Military, but with the fog of war, the Liberty just might have been an accident like they said. I’m giving Israel a pass on this one.

End the GA income tax
Broaden the base for sales tax
Sales tax is progressive
And more revenue means more money to invest in transportation

I worked/lived in Charleston, SC about 5 years ago. These guys at work wanted to know would I play some drums for them. I asked what type band they had? They said they did`nt have a band, but they needed a drummer for civil war reenactments.
They said I would have the best job in the unit. Just dress up in a wool suit and slog though the Francis Marrion swamp in 100 degree heat!
They would have had a better shot of getting me to join their Barry Mantilow tribute band.

Georgia’s economic mess SHOULD be a cause for action…. by the voters to STOP electing republicans to State office. But, it won’t happen.
For whatever reason, Georgia citizens continue to listen to lies and adopt the idiotic policies of the republicans and the ship continues to sink.
