Yet another major right-wing outrage goes pffffft, as was predicted here almost a year ago.
An internal Justice Department investigation into the Operation Fast and Furious scandal singles out 14 different officials for criticism and possible disciplinary action. But a report out Wednesday found no evidence that the department’s top leaders knew about the gun-walking aspect of the operation when it was underway.
… the investigators found Attorney General Eric Holder didn’t know about the controversial operation until after the scandal emerged in the wake of the discovery of two weapons linked to the operation at the scene of the shooting death of a Border Patrol agent in December 2010.
The investigative report (available here) was harshly critical of the operation itself, as it should have been, noting that “the investigations were seriously flawed in several respects, most significantly in their failure to adequately consider the risk to public safety in the United States and Mexico.” None of that was a surprise; the operation has been widely acknowledged as botched.
However, the report exonerated Holder, finding that “we determined that Attorney General Holder did not learn about Operation Fast and Furious until late January or early February 2011 and was not aware of allegations of “gun walking” in the investigation until February…..
We found that Attorney General Holder had no involvement in drafting or reviewing the February 4 letter that he decided to withdraw in December 2011 after concluding that it contained inaccuracies. …. we determined that Holder had no part in the fact-gathering, editing, or approval process that led to the Department’s issuance of an inaccurate response on February 4.”
Holder’s response is a study in understatement:
“It is unfortunate that some were so quick to make baseless accusations before they possessed the facts about these operations – accusations that turned out to be without foundation and that have caused a great deal of unnecessary harm and confusion. I hope today’s report acts as a reminder of the dangers of adopting as fact unsubstantiated conclusions before an investigation of the circumstances is completed.”
Holder may hope for such a thing, but even he knows that hope is in vain.

Meanwhile….
“Congressional budget analysts are now estimating that nearly 6 million Americans – most of them in the middle class – will have to pay a tax penalty for not getting health insurance once President Barack Obama’s health care law is fully in place.
That’s 2 million more than a previous estimate found, or a 50 percent increase. The average penalty will be nearly $1,200.
Starting in 2014, the new health care law requires virtually every legal resident of the U.S. to carry health insurance, or face a tax penalty. The Supreme Court upheld Obama’s law as constitutional after finding that the penalty fell within the power of Congress to impose taxes.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said today the penalty will raise $6.9 billion when fully in effect in 2016. ”

Before any more bloggers reveal their ignorance about the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General, they may just want to hold off posting and read a little about it.
http://www.justice.gov/oig/
“The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is a statutorily created independent entity [[that means Congress created it]] whose mission is to detect and deter waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct in DOJ programs and personnel, and to promote economy and efficiency in those programs. The Inspector General, who is appointed by the President subject to Senate confirmation, reports to the Attorney General and Congress. [[Didja catch the "AND CONGRESS" part, bloggers?]] The OIG investigates alleged violations of criminal and civil laws by DOJ employees and also audits and inspects DOJ programs.”

“Veterans won’t be getting a new, billion-dollar jobs program, not from this Senate. Republicans on Wednesday afternoon blocked a vote on the Veterans Job Corps Bill after Jeff Sessions of Alabama raised a point of order — he said the bill violated a cap on spending agreed to by Congress last year.
The bill’s sponsor, Patty Murray of Washington, said that shouldn’t matter, since the bill’s cost was fully offset by new revenues. She said Mr. Sessions and his party colleagues had been furiously generating excuses to oppose the bill, and were now exploiting a technicality to deny thousands of veterans a shot at getting hired as police officers, firefighters and parks workers, among other things.”

The main-stream media coverage of this and other incidents in this administration smacks of pre-war German media when it fed the voters there lies long enough and often enough for them to believe that administration. Ok, there was a HUGE screwup. Everyone admits that. Holder was at the top. It’s his responsibility. At best, he was ignorant of a hugely sensitive operation going on in his department and didn’t perjure himself about it.
At worst, he knew about it, did it for political reasons (blame the U.S. for the gun problem in Mexico), and perjured himself.
So the truth is probably somewhere in between those two statements. Nowhere in there does he come out smelling like a rose.

With such a high level cabinet position under the gun, there should have been an independent prosecutor.

Difference is that Clinton had an iota of shame and the sense that the media might turn on him if he didn’t allow an independent prosecutor.

I just flat plain cant afford it. And now I am going to get fined for something I cant afford.
Well obviously if you have a refrigator, a TV, internet access, a computer and/or a phone you are living high on the hog and certainly should cut out those things so you can afford it. Or just work harder. Poverty is obviously your choice.
Aside from the standard conned response, there are suppose to be programs to help and if you cannot afford it, I understand that there are exemptions from the fine. The fine applies only to those who can afford it but chose not to and thus try to burden us all if the isks they chose fall against them.

You don’t pay a tax if you don’t buy the insurance. The tax is withheld by the IRS after you file your tax return.
So, you can’t afford it, so you don’t buy it, then when you file a tax return, the tax is withheld or you are billed. Which you don’t have the money to pay.

Politico is one of these media organizations (like CBS, the NYT and so on) that really wants to appear objective (even going so far as to accuse its brethren of media bias) when in reality it is not. Bias is easily determined by an organization’s choice of 1) topics 2) headlines and 3) words. So, Politico apparently at one point ran 90 or so stories on Cain, 9 on Solyndra and 3 on Fast and Furious in one week’s time. Media Matters has tried to defend Politico’s objectivity, but I guess that is like Richard Daly claiming Obama is an honest man.

Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee will consider legislation repealing a crucial Obamacare consumer protection that requires insurers to spend at least 80 percent of their premium dollars on actual care rather than overhead or profits. … Nearly 13 million people recently received more than $1 billion in rebates on their health insurance premiums due to a health reform provision known as the “80/20 rule” or the “medical-loss ratio” standard….In attempting to weaken the medical-loss ratio provision, House Republicans are forcing Americans to subsidize insurance company profits rather than their personal care, thus raising overall costs in the industry while reducing the quality of American health care.

Global swelter: World has 3rd-warmest summer on record
While the USA sweated through one of its warmest summers on record, so, too, did the rest of the globe, federal scientists from the National Climatic Data Center announced Monday.
The average summer temperature over global land and ocean surfaces tied with 2005 as the third-highest on record at 61.25 degrees F, or 1.15 degree F above the 20th century average of 60.1 degrees F.
Only the summers of 1998 and 2010 were warmer.
The unusual warmth also caused Arctic sea ice to shrink to its lowest level on record, the National Snow and Ice Data Center reported.
August itself was the fourth-warmest August on record worldwide. It marked the 330th consecutive above-average month. The last cooler-than-average month globally was February 1985, the climate center reports.
Federal scientists last week announced that the USA experienced its third-warmest summer on record, trailing only 1936 and 2011.

Great job, Holder. Here is a case of the fox investigating itself and found to be non complicit. How in the hell could the head of the Justice Dept not know that 14 high ranking members of the Dept were involved in an operation such as this.? If he didn’t know, which I seriously doubt, he was negligent in not managing his Dept and keeping track of what these clowns were doing. And we are to believe that these 14 high ranking Dept officials tapped government money to fund an operation of this size to the tune of millions to make it work and Holder didn’t know? That’s almost as funny as Bozo winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Pathetic.

“Efforts that promote hard work and personal responsibility over government dependency make America strong. When the economy is growing and Americans are working, everyone involved has a shared sense of achievement, not to mention the basic sense of pride that comes with the paycheck they earn.
However, over the past four years, those kinds of opportunities have been in short supply. We’re experiencing the worst recovery since the Great Depression. Unemployment has been above 8% for 43 straight months; 47 million Americans are on food stamps. Nearly one in six Americans now live in poverty.
Under President Obama, we have a stagnant economy that fosters government dependency. My policies will create a growing economy that fosters upward mobility.
Government has a role to play here. Right now, our nation’s citizens do need help from government. But it is a very different kind of help than what President Obama wants to provide.
My experience has taught me that government works best when it creates the space for individuals and families to pursue success and achieve great things. Economic freedom is the only force that has consistently succeeded in creating sustained prosperity and lifting people out of poverty. It is why our economy rose to rival those of the world’s leading powers — and has long since surpassed them all.
The dreamers and the entrepreneurs, not government, built this economy, and they can once again make it strong.
My course for the American economy will encourage private investment and personal freedom. Instead of creating a web of dependency, I will pursue policies that grow our economy and lift Americans out of poverty.
My five-point plan will deliver the economic recovery we’ve all been waiting for and the jobs millions of Americans still need. This can be more than our hope; it can be our future. And it can start this November with your vote.”

It’s almost impossible to track something you can’t get access to in the first place. I particularly liked the part where ATF took this case to the AG showing proof that this guy on welfare basically bought $30K worth of guns in a single day. Now where did that money come from. The AG said it couldn’t be proven he was buying them for a trafficer. Who elected this guy?

You seem like a reasonable person. Do you, in your heart of hearts, believe that Holder is innocent of knowing what was going on? Can you honestly say that his hands are not as dirty as the ones that were found out? No, I am not a mind reader. However, after spending nearly 35 years in the military, it was evident that the responsible person in any f*ck up was the Commander of the unit. Holder, even though he was found to be “non complicit”, he was in charge. His head should roll and he should resign or be indicted as a co-conspirator in a fiasco that took the lives of many people. It wouldn’t even be a second thought if he were a military commander. But he should be held to the same standard.

Both sides make political hay of anything, so it is difficult to discern exactly what occurred, who knew what and when.
I am sure we could both go down the line of WH “scandals” agree on some and disagree on others, but in the end, we still wouldn’t have all the facts.
Side topic: If you do not mind me asking, did you grow up in Macon and moved back after retiring or did you have a practice in Macon and just stayed?

I have assumed such personae myself in the past and will in the future. I wasn’t trying to “name-jack” you (the spelling of the name I used was similar but different) ; I was being satiric – I was satirizing simplistic liberal snipes and Jay’s comfortability with a mere “internal” investigation using a quasi-liberal snipe, all in one fell swoop. Democrats first called these people without insurance victims, then they did a 180 and called them free-riders after the fact…this shows that the leftists in power, just like you jay, believe the ends justify the means and will dictate whatever they deem necessary while in charge instead of believing in the freedom of individual citizens to make the best choice for themselves…..NEXT:
personal responsibility through freedom of choice jay, not through force by the government…….this is the fundamental transformation that none of the leftists will define…..do as i say or we will force you to do as we say….thanks for allowing me to expose the leftist, statist, big gov’t ideology that you and your ilk espouse to the detriment of the United States of America……….this was the easiest yet jay……oh, by the way obama is on tape again proving he is a socialist and you continue to support him…………pretty soon you will be defined by who you support………will you admit it?

Why is it you libs only want to hold the people like Mitt Romney accountable for the actions they take in leadership positions but not government leaders?
Romney was a CEO of Bain and sent out his people to turn companies around company and if these professionals decide that layoffs need to happen or plants shut down or jobs outsourced to return the investment to the investors then it is all Romney’s fault because he was in charge. Now we here that since Holder was not directly involved then he is not accountable for what happens below him.
This is a huge double standard. If Romney is accountable then so is Holder. If Holder does not have an understanding about what is going on under his leadership then he is incompetent and should not be in the position.

From the Huffington Post:
Nonetheless, some people might still decide to remain uninsured because they object to government mandates or because they feel they would come out ahead financially even if they have to pay the penalty. Health insurance is expensive, with employer-provided family coverage averaging nearly $15,800 a year for a family and $4,300 for a single plan. Indeed, insurance industry experts say the federal penalty may be too low.
A simple leftist followed by a less simple leftist. Shows you what’s in store. Government will be subsidizing healthcare even for the $6 million who choose not to buy. Prices are going up, and they will go up. The government can’t afford the coverage even with the penalty.

Of course the voices here crying for Holder’s blood are aware that 95% of DOJ employees are career officers who serve right through any change in administration. Holder held in contempt of Congress. Do we remember that in the news? Heck no! There’s shiny objects everywhere to point out, and they all seem to say “Romney,” “47%” and “top 1%”.
The next thing for the media to do is to pretend that a special prosecutor wasn’t necessary for this. Check–done. Item number two is to pretend that a cabinet member already held in contempt of Congress can be trusted with commissioning his own IG to investigate him. Check–in progress. Third, we need to really try and reelect The One, so that he can pardon Holder without consequences and keep his corrupt attorney general in office.

I also find it humorous to see complaints about the “integrity of the media”. The right wing indicted and convicted Holder based on no evidence whatsoever. They were calling for his impeachment and even the impeachment of Obama. This was more important than Watergate.
And when an 18-month in-depth investigation comes up with absolutely nothing, do they have the integrity to issue even an oops, let alone an apology?
No. They continue to claim that their insistence it is true constitutes evidence it is true.

From USDOJ itself: first paragraph on the web page:
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is a statutorily created independent entity whose mission is to detect and deter waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct in DOJ programs and personnel, and to promote economy and efficiency in those programs. The Inspector General, who is appointed by the President subject to Senate confirmation, reports to the Attorney General and Congress. The OIG investigates alleged violations of criminal and civil laws DOJ employees and also audits and inspects DOJ programs.
Obama appointed the guy, yeah,

Obama Gave Entertainment Mag Interview on Peak Day of Embassy Protests
New information reveals President Barack Obama conducted interviews with entertainment magazines and posed for a photo spread last Friday as American embassies burned and 21 countries erupted into anti-American protests.
Instead of spending precious time dealing with the developing crisis in the Mid East and with his foreign policy scheme in a total freefall, on Friday morning, September 14, Obama was giving an interview to the entertainment magazine People en Español and participating in a photo session with photographer Omar Cruz.
This interview was not on his public schedule and was hidden from the public.
Friday, September 14th was the same day that four flag-draped coffins of those killed at the U.S. Libyan embassy arrived at Andrews Air Force base.
The interview came to public attention when individuals who work for the magazine tweeted about their visit after the event was over.
Let’s face reality, and once and for all acknowledge that this joker is in over his head and is interested not in you; not in me; not in our country; not in our armed services; not in the poor; not in the blacks; not in the downtrodden; not in his own children’s future; not in his own freaking poverty stricken brother in Kenya; not in America’s perception around the globe; not in our founding principles; not in energy independence; not in job creation; not in national debt; not in one damn thing but himself. When Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen and the Government Accountability Institute reported that President Obama has attended less than half of his Presidential Daily Briefs (PDBs) on intelligence, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney called the findings “hilarious.” The next day, U.S. Libyan Ambassador Chris Stevens and three American staff members were murdered.
President Obama has attended less than half of his Presidential Daily Briefs (PDBs) on intelligence, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney called the findings “hilarious.” The next day, U.S. Libyan Ambassador Chris Stevens and three American staff members were murdered.
According to Mr. Carney, Mr. Obama doesn’t need in-person briefings because the president gets the written version on his iPad:
He gets it every day, okay? The President of the United States gets the presidential daily briefing every day. There is a document that he reads every day when he is not — well, he always reads it every day because he’s a voracious consumer of all of his briefing materials.
But now, in an apparent 180-degree reversal, the White House official calendar shows that for the last four days Mr. Obama has ditched his iPad and has instead opted for the live briefings.
That’s a good thing. As Mr. Thiessen explains, the live briefings are far preferred over the written daily intel reports, because they offer presidents and their advisors an opportunity to drill down into intelligence threats and to challenge assumptions. “This process cannot be replicated on paper,” says Mr. Thiessen.
Still, Mr. Carney owes Mr. Thiessen an apology. Carney said Thiessen’s report was “hilarious” and flippantly dismissed the need for Mr. Obama to attend live intelligence briefings. Then, after four Americans were murdered and Mr. Obama’s foreign policy approval rating plunged, Mr. Obama has now decided to actually start showing up for his daily presidential intelligence briefings, just as Mr. Thiessen urged him to do.

With a golf course, a water park and an elegant lodge that promises visitors “the welcoming embrace of luxury,” the Lake Lanier Islands Resort exudes abundance, not need.
So some were surprised when Gov. Nathan Deal agreed last month to spend $4.5 million to buy and rehabilitate a well to primarily serve the North Georgia resort, which is operated by a multimillionaire businessman.
The one and only Real Deal, the con’s con, at it again. He has obiously vowed not to be outdone by Sonny.

UNFETTERED LIBERALISM:
“In an effort to comply with state laws about gender discrimination, a Rhode Island school district has banned father-daughter dances and mother-son baseball games after a single mom complained that her daughter wasn’t able to attend a dance.
The mother filed a complaint with the Rhode Island branch of the American Civil Liberties Union last May, saying that her child felt excluded from the dance because she did not have a father figure to take her. The dance was a longstanding event run by a parent-teacher organization.”

Why not? The Inspector General is appointed by the president, but he has to report to Congress as part of his job. Isn’t Congress the one that’s pushing for this investigation? Should taxpayers have to cough up extra money for a special investigator kinda like the Ken Starr thing again?
We allow politicians to sow the seeds of distrust to the point that we can’t even trust fellow citizens will do what is right. As the IG is appointed by the POTUS, there’s nothing that Holder could do to him, so I don’t think there’s any pressure that could be put on him to shade his report. From what I’ve read so far, the report sounds just about like the things I’ve seen on this so far.

Here are the Top Ten Signs Letterman is a Liberal Shmendrik:
10) He thinks the Torah is a WWII film.
He called Donald Trump a racist when he really meant a fascist.
9) He keeps muttering “16 trillion, 16 schmillion”.
7) He thinks the New York Times is a scientific, peer-reviewed publication.
6) He keeps stammering “uh, uh, uh” while trying to think of something to say.
5) He almost underwent a sex change operation, but backed out when he discovered the city wouldn’t pay for it.
4) He thinks someone as rich as he is shouldn’t run for president but only criticize those who do.
3) He surround himself with other liberals willing to listen to his monologues.
2) He actually thinks his opinion is important enough to interject it whenever he can.
1) When Obama appeared recently on his show, he fell down and licked the prersident’s shoes.

Is anybody surprised an internal report, from the Justice Department’s own Inspector General, would cast a flattering light on upper management?
Seems to me some of the regulars here would insist on a citizen’s review board or external agency review for a police officer or deputy related shooting, and are quick to cry whitewash when a department clears its own.
So, why the double standard?
And why does nobody seem to care that Holder may have been the first Cabinet member in history to be allowed to retract testimony before Congress?
My guess is the root causes for both are the same.

While no overt act of wrong doing by the Attorney General was found, there is an obvious insubordination of duty somewhere down the chain, which led to Terry’s death. This is still negligent in terms of running a loose ship. If policies were tighter and command was more adhered to, Holder would have been more aware of what his people were doing and his command would have been more closely followed. If Holder didn’t know what was happening, this just shows how disconnected he is from his post and unaware he was of the contempt for his leadership that apparently exists. How many other officers have to be put unnecessarily in harms way before Holder discovers and adequately assesses the extent of his loose ship and make the changes necessary to ensure the safety of American citizens and the Border Agents who protect us? I believe depraved indifference certainly applies in Holders case.
