‘Fast and Furious’ report exonerates AG Holder

Yet another major right-wing outrage goes pffffft, as was predicted here almost a year ago.

From Politico:

An internal Justice Department investigation into the Operation Fast and Furious scandal singles out 14 different officials for criticism and possible disciplinary action. But a report out Wednesday found no evidence that the department’s top leaders knew about the gun-walking aspect of the operation when it was underway.

… the investigators found Attorney General Eric Holder didn’t know about the controversial operation until after the scandal emerged in the wake of the discovery of two weapons linked to the operation at the scene of the shooting death of a Border Patrol agent in December 2010.

The investigative report (available here) was harshly critical of the operation itself, as it should have been, noting that “the investigations were seriously flawed in several respects, most significantly in their failure to adequately consider the risk to public safety in the United States and Mexico.” None of that was a surprise; the operation has been widely acknowledged as botched.

However, the report exonerated Holder, finding that “we determined that Attorney General Holder did not learn about Operation Fast and Furious until late January or early February 2011 and was not aware of allegations of “gun walking” in the investigation until February…..

We found that Attorney General Holder had no involvement in drafting or reviewing the February 4 letter that he decided to withdraw in December 2011 after concluding that it contained inaccuracies. …. we determined that Holder had no part in the fact-gathering, editing, or approval process that led to the Department’s issuance of an inaccurate response on February 4.”

Holder’s response is a study in understatement:

“It is unfortunate that some were so quick to make baseless accusations before they possessed the facts about these operations – accusations that turned out to be without foundation and that have caused a great deal of unnecessary harm and confusion. I hope today’s report acts as a reminder of the dangers of adopting as fact unsubstantiated conclusions before an investigation of the circumstances is completed.”

Holder may hope for such a thing, but even he knows that hope is in vain.

“Efforts that promote hard work and personal responsibility over government dependency make America strong. When the economy is growing and Americans are working, everyone involved has a shared sense of achievement, not to mention the basic sense of pride that comes with the paycheck they earn.

However, over the past four years, those kinds of opportunities have been in short supply. We’re experiencing the worst recovery since the Great Depression. Unemployment has been above 8% for 43 straight months; 47 million Americans are on food stamps. Nearly one in six Americans now live in poverty.

Under President Obama, we have a stagnant economy that fosters government dependency. My policies will create a growing economy that fosters upward mobility.

Government has a role to play here. Right now, our nation’s citizens do need help from government. But it is a very different kind of help than what President Obama wants to provide.

My experience has taught me that government works best when it creates the space for individuals and families to pursue success and achieve great things. Economic freedom is the only force that has consistently succeeded in creating sustained prosperity and lifting people out of poverty. It is why our economy rose to rival those of the world’s leading powers — and has long since surpassed them all.

The dreamers and the entrepreneurs, not government, built this economy, and they can once again make it strong.

My course for the American economy will encourage private investment and personal freedom. Instead of creating a web of dependency, I will pursue policies that grow our economy and lift Americans out of poverty.

My five-point plan will deliver the economic recovery we’ve all been waiting for and the jobs millions of Americans still need. This can be more than our hope; it can be our future. And it can start this November with your vote.”

This thing stinks so bad….. but I am not surprised that Bookman, the liberal shill that he is, would crow on about something like this. Americans were killed, hundreds of Mexicans were killed and the operation was worse than the Bay of Pigs fiasco and what does the press do about it;;;;;; absolutely nothing. Yea right, just like the Obama administration said that the attack in Libya was a “spontaneous” protest. But just today they are backpeddling on their official story and are close to admitting that it was a planned and co-ordinated attack which they had intellgence about prior to it happening but did nothing about.

Jay, with topic after topic supporting the Obama administration (even in the face of un-ending evidence of its incompetence on both international policy and domestic policy) you seem to positioning yourself for a place in a new state-run media wherein you can’t (and won’t) question your annointed ideoligical leader. All you have to do is write propaganda pieces in support of them and you will have a job, right? Time after time it has been asked of you if you think of yourself as a journalist. 1. The National Academy of Science was created by Abraham Lincoln. It was established to advise the government on issues of science. It is comprised of members of the scientific community who are recognized by their peers to be the best in their fields. It is an unpaid position, but it is considered to the the highest honor a scientist can have bestowed upon her or him.

Everything points to someone very high in the Justice Dept f***ing up. Lots of bucks were spent in this failed fiasco, money that Holder was no doubt aware of. He can’t be that poor a manager or have failed to know what was happening. If so, we have a really cracker jack of a Justice Dept head, now don’t we? Bookman can crow on and on about this but it just proves how much of a liberal hack he is to not appreciate the fallacy in this whole thing. However, after spending nearly 35 years in the military, it was evident that the responsible person in any f*ck up was the Commander of the unit. Holder, even though he was found to be “non complicit”, he was in charge. His head should roll and he should resign or be indicted as a co-conspirator in a fiasco that took the lives of many people. It wouldn’t even be a second thought if he were a military commander. But he should be held to the same standard.

As I stated I do not know what Holder knew and when he knew it.

However I will say he does come across as smug and arrogant imo. I thought Gonzales did as well.

Maybe it is the personality required for the job

Suck, 6:52,

Macon was a retirement selection, although it may not have been the right one. We have only lived here for about 6years. I really consider Hawaii my home. Lived there for about 20 or so years while in the military and in private practice.

Again — I have seen Jay pull the trigger for similar stunts.

But please — tempt fate.

“We’re out here saving the world every day and you’re not even paying attention. Geez. Cons are so ungrateful.”

I know, right? It’s because we are so selfish – we’re like fascists or terrorists that way.

Listen, I have an investment opportunity for you that I wouldn’t share with just anybody….

Can we step over here away from the noise of the crowd?

There. Now, I have inside information on a company that is about to take over the travel world with their new oceanliner, the Titanic. Figure out how much you can afford to invest (don’t wimp out and talk to your wife, who wears the pants in your family?) and I will be the middleman to insure you get in on the ground floor. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Act fast. Cash only.

You have to have a passport for Hawaii, you know they aren’t part of the USA.

Just ask Scout.

Why, KC, you seem to not be so flippant and sniping now. You mean there is a real person behind that mask who COULD argue issues civilly instead of gloating over the death of conservatives? You see, that is in part what sarcasm and satire can do – make people angry enough to actually THINK. If you think it is somehow wrong to use either, I would just submit that no less a prophet than Elijah did.

Jay did a great job today addressing O’bozo’s redistributionist belief system, something the MSM avoids like church.

Did anyone here make more than I did today?

Time to share prosperity!!!

I asked because I knew you were in the military at one time. I grew up in Columbus were there are numerous retirees and of course active personnel.

Republicans were “fast” to accuse and blame because they were “furious” they did not control the WhiteHouse.

It is really more Orwellian than anything – you know, with some animals (those who voted for health care vastly inferior to theirs) being more equal than others (the rest of us poor slugs).

Will this be covered under the New Free Medicine Law?

My dad was stationed at Schofield Barracks in the 60s. He was there before his first tour in Vietnam, but was transferred after his second.
