Advisers to Mitt Romney on Thursday defended his sharp criticism of President Obama and said that the deadly protests sweeping the Middle East would not have happened if the Republican nominee were president.
“There’s a pretty compelling story that if you had a President Romney, you’d be in a different situation,” Richard Williamson, a top Romney foreign policy adviser, said in an interview. “For the first time since Jimmy Carter, we’ve had an American ambassador assassinated.”
Williamson added, “In Egypt and Libya and Yemen, again demonstrations — the respect for America has gone down, there’s not a sense of American resolve and we can’t even protect sovereign American property.”
I’m sorry: That has to be one of the more ridiculous statements I have seen in a long time. Who’s running this campaign, Honey Boo-Boo?
So we are to believe that Mitt Romney, by the sheer Mitt-normity of his Mitt-strength, would square his Mitt-jaw and single-handedly suppress not just decades, not just centuries, but millenia of seething anger and frustration among hundreds of millions of people in the Islamic world. Their anger and insecurities would all vanish, and the roiling seas would be made calm?
It’s a feat that Ronald Reagan couldn’t perform — the death of 241 Marines in their barracks in Lebanon and the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, with another 63 killed, bear clear testimony to his inadequacy. George W. Bush, the hard-bitten Texan, was such a wimp that Islamic terrorists dared to murder thousands of our fellow Americans here on our own soil and launch a dozen attacks against our embassies.
And Barack Obama? As Rush Limbaugh suggested yesterday, Obama is so weak that al Qaida offered up Osama bin Laden as a sacrifice to us, just to ensure that Obama would be re-elected.
Oh, but under the fearsome glare and resolve of the Mitt-y One, all would quake. Because all would know that if they dared to cross the line, His RomniPOTUS would … do what exactly? Smite them with a simple arch of his eyebrow?
P.T. Barnum once claimed that no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people. The Romney campaign is putting that observation to a very stern test.

Breaking News: Realizing his knee-jerk reaction was not scoring the political points he was after, Mitt Romney adopts the same stance on the anti-Islamic movie as the White House. The Guinness Book of World Records is currently working to verify whether or not this breaks Romney’s current record of fastest political flip-flop.

2. The Arab Spring, which brought down despots and promote enough democracy to let their people decide who and how they would be ruled, gave us the Muslim brotherhood. So be it. It’s what they chose.
3. The fact that there HAS been a regime change does, in fact, tell us we don’t know for certain, who is our ally and who isn’t. Now is the time for diplomacy and not division. We need to re-win their hearts and minds if we are to continue to have any say so in the region. Let the experts do their work and wait and see.

People remember what we stood for in my opinion. People know what we still stand for in my opinion as well.
That is another of the things that make us great. We have an understanding of how we came to be what has made us what we are, while being able to have a debate about the specifics and a debate about how to move that legacy forward. The best part about it is that we get to all claim we are right and we know the future. But then we all come together and decide together through peaceful elections.
That allows us the people to decide our future and that is our most important history.

Quip: Obama won the Nobel Prize for peace? Looks like Radical Islam didn’t get the memo.
Now …………. someone asked me earlier (forget who) what I would do regarding the Middle East problem. Here is my honest answer.
1) Appeasement of Radical Islam will NEVER work. You can give them everything they want: help them destroy Israel, all the land they want, all the money they want, build their infrastructure, all the “kowtowing” they want, all of the “dhimmitude” they want, etc., etc., etc. It will never work for one simple reason …………. we are INFIDELS.
2) There is only one way to bring peace to the Middle East but unfortunately it’s an immposibility.
You would have to raise whole new generations of Muslims over there (and everywhere in the world for that matter) without ONE BIT of influence/brainwashing by Radical Islamists. How many of you think that can be accomplished please raise your hand.
3) That leaves one option …………….. keep Radical Islam marginalized and “smacked down” to the greatest extent possible. If the organize …… hit them. If they meet ……… hit them. If they show up to fight ………… hit them. If they go to the bathroom ………… hit them. If they sneeze (and the drone picks it up) ……….. hit them.
I believe with all of my heart that all things considered and over the long, long term that a conservative administration will do a better job of that as opposed to the policies of an appeasing liberal administration.
Therefore, when considering foreign policy, I will vote for the more conservative candidate.
If you disagree with me fine ………… I welcome polite debate vs. personal attack ………. otherwise I will ignore your post.

Wow, which 911, the one in 2001, or 2012? Both represent failed Middle East policies by DEM Presidents. Jimmy Carter and the DEMS allowed a “moderate” Khomeini back to take control of Iran. This failure has put the ME where it is today. Billy Clinton had ample opportunities to remove OBL prior to 911, but was too cowardly to act. You seem to have an intellectual process thar relies on DNC talking points only. Easier than thinking for yourself I suppose.

BOSTON (AP) — Mitt Romney is promising to reduce taxes on middle-income Americans.
But how does he define “middle-income”? The Republican presidential nominee defined it as income of $200,000 to $250,000 a year.
Romney commented during an interview broadcast Friday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
…
The Census Bureau reported this week that the median household income — the midpoint for the nation — is just over $50,000.

It’s a ridiculous statement to you Jay because you are an off the map progressive partisan. Clearly, that is your entitled opinion and after all this is an opinion column. I do not believe there is any magic bullet in dealing with the radical element (growing bigger every day) of Islam in the Middle East.
With that said, I do not believe we can continue to negotiate from a position of appeasement and perceived weakness which I believe emanates from the current administration. Yes, Obama has been “green lighting” numerous drone strikes that have taken out a lot of evil individuals and for that I applaud Obama’s efforts. However, the current level of protests is escalating by the minute and we need to be doing a bit more than talking tough. I am most anxious to hear Obama speak in about an hour to see if it is the “same old same old” or a “no more mister nice guy”.

Dear Fred @ 1:22, if a conservative apologized to the world for Americanism, then found himself with a million-member mob demanding the end to American style freedom, the right solution would be to “nuke” them by reaffirming our values, with clarity and without “reaching out.” We do not have to worry about Obama magnifying American values above the “hurt feelings” of the loonies. He does not do that domestically, so he is even less likely to do that internationally.

Do you not ask for proof of things posters here claim.
I ask for proof of verifiable claims, yes. But I usually am only asking for such things in relation to public affairs, data, studies, etc… not whether or not someone did something at some point in their lives.
I wouldn’t usually ask for someone to prove that they once defended someone else on the blog, or something like that because a) I don’t think that’s important and b) unless it’s in the day’s threads it is unlikely they would be able to. I limit such discussions to the conversation at hand, and usually do not have to ask because I can go so for myself where the conversation started and what was being said. They were your words or a paraphrase because you deflected to Bush as an answer to my earlier question.
Giving an example to another issue is not an answer to a direct question.
Of course that is your choice, however just because you have fooled yourself doesn’t mean others are fooled.

Marty: A terrorist attack is NEVER any presidents fault! Unless severe negligence can be proven, a serious charge that should not be toss around so lightly.
It is the fault of the terrorist!

Thanks for your son’s service. My father is a retired Lt Col who severed three tours in Vietnam.
But none of that answers the question I asked.

Quit being the big RICHARD you love to be.
What should have been the US response to millions of people marching against Mubarak along with numerous top generals turning away from him and taking their armies with them?

Take care. Don;t take too much of that stuff your demagogue Ann loved to take. It will rot your brain.

0311 — “Several individuals saw it coming (including FBI agents regarding terrorist flight training) and nothing was done.”
If, as you say, Clinton did nothing about it, then the same criticism attaches to Bush.

R. Danneskjold — “you inadvertently undermine the leftist position, by suggesting that incomes of $200,000 to $250,000 are “the wealthy.”
Dishonest Rags strikes again.
She did no such thing, and your enclosure of the wealthy in double quotes is clearly a dishonest attempt to make it appear that she said those specific words.
“Of course Obama will increase taxes on $200,000 and up, beyond the taxes added to everyone by ObamaCare. (Remember what the supreme court ruled?)”
I do. And the SCOTUS did *not* say that it was a tax, so Dishonest Ragnar strikes again.
You pretty clearly need to read what the majority decision *actually* said, Rags.
“$250,000 is a middle income level. Believe or not, “middle-income” is not the same as “median.” He is discussing taxes, and you are applying the narrow definition of statistics.”
Your previously demonstrated lack of facility with statistics is well-supported by this latest display of innnumeracy on your part.

it amazes me that repubs are having orgasms blaming OBAMA for the embassy attacks but these same people let DSBYA off the hook for 9/11…how can anyone take these rubes seriously

A distinction without a difference. It was ruled constitutional as a tax, otherwise it overstepped the Commerce clause……nice try Joe..

Get Real — “A distinction without a difference.”
Incorrect.
“It was ruled constitutional as a tax, otherwise it overstepped the Commerce clause”
Failburger with LOLsauce. That’s not what they said.
The decision SPECIFICALLY said that if the penalty could be “characterized” as a tax, then it was within Congress’ power to impose it. The SCOTUS did NOT call it or describe it as a tax; in fact, the decision studiously AVOIDS saying what it is or is not.
“……nice try Joe..”
And it’s a success on my part, too. You might want to try actually reading what I’m talking about before you try to refute me next time, because coming unarmed to this fight has turned out decidedly poorly for you.
