Under President Romney, Mideast would be calm? Really?

From The Washington Post:

Advisers to Mitt Romney on Thursday defended his sharp criticism of President Obama and said that the deadly protests sweeping the Middle East would not have happened if the Republican nominee were president.

“There’s a pretty compelling story that if you had a President Romney, you’d be in a different situation,” Richard Williamson, a top Romney foreign policy adviser, said in an interview. “For the first time since Jimmy Carter, we’ve had an American ambassador assassinated.”

Williamson added, “In Egypt and Libya and Yemen, again demonstrations — the respect for America has gone down, there’s not a sense of American resolve and we can’t even protect sovereign American property.”

I’m sorry: That has to be one of the more ridiculous statements I have seen in a long time. Who’s running this campaign, Honey Boo-Boo?

So we are to believe that Mitt Romney, by the sheer Mitt-normity of his Mitt-strength, would square his Mitt-jaw and single-handedly suppress not just decades, not just centuries, but millenia of seething anger and frustration among hundreds of millions of people in the Islamic world. Their anger and insecurities would all vanish, and the roiling seas would be made calm?

It’s a feat that Ronald Reagan couldn’t perform — the death of 241 Marines in their barracks in Lebanon and the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, with another 63 killed, bear clear testimony to his inadequacy. George W. Bush, the hard-bitten Texan, was such a wimp that Islamic terrorists dared to murder thousands of our fellow Americans here on our own soil and launch a dozen attacks against our embassies.

And Barack Obama? As Rush Limbaugh suggested yesterday, Obama is so weak that al Qaida offered up Osama bin Laden as a sacrifice to us, just to ensure that Obama would be re-elected.

Oh, but under the fearsome glare and resolve of the Mitt-y One, all would quake. Because all would know that if they dared to cross the line, His RomniPOTUS would … do what exactly? Smite them with a simple arch of his eyebrow?

P.T. Barnum once claimed that no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people. The Romney campaign is putting that observation to a very stern test.

We have a foreign policy crisis and what does Bookman’s choice do? He gets on his big ride and heads out to Vegas for a fund raiser, stops by Golden, CO for more money and lets his wacky staff back home handle the mess.

I mean its not like past presidents stayed at the White House during foreign policy crisises. I mean the last president to run for re-election didnt campaign while two wars were going on. Nahhhhhh, he stayed at the White House to monitor things , didnt he? Didnt campaign at all.

It is also rather telling to see folks rush to their computers to claim “Obama had warning and didn’t prevent” an attack in far-off, chaotic Libya while it is off-limits to raise the point that the Bush administration had warnings for months prior to 9/11.

Why is that, I wonder?

And if you had actually read the transcripts then you would have noticed that Rush started this whole monologue as “My wild wild off the wall theory of the day” Now does this sound like entertainment or does sound like he is serious?

At some point, your taking of every issue and thinking many of us care what Romney would do is BS and irrelevant…conjecture as a defense is beneath you JAY.

Yes. Until a conservative website points out that part of his transcript and distills it as “Osama bin Laden was sacrificed so Obama could win” then it didn’t happen.

I wish I were joking, but they DO think like that. Probably because deep down, they know their own sources of information make stuff up OR because they are butthurt that their sources of information make stuff up and people call them on it.

We learned that freedom of speech is only allowed if approved by the liberals. I seem to remember the ol’ crucifix in urine “freedom of speech” being funded by the gov’t. Shockingly no diplomats were murdered and no towers fell. Nevertheless Jay enables the ignorant rants of “knuckle draggers” so therefore he must enjoy the term. Right? If you don’t condemn it you must approve it if you are in control of the blog.

And just think of all the Private Innerprize this ban is stifling. A whole bunch of Norman Einsteens make their living off of this big drink thing (”Look, Norm. This will hold a half gallon–easy. “It is rather ironic that a considerable portion of this China-battering politician’s wealth was actually obtained by doing business with Chinese companies before he entered politics,” Xinhua wrote.

Actually, it wasn’t to Eric Canter, it was to Senator John Kyl , Steve………….

The top congressional leaders from both parties gathered at the White House for a working discussion over the shape and size of President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus plan. The meeting was designed to promote bipartisanship.

But Obama showed that in an ideological debate, he’s not averse to using a jab.

Challenged by one Republican senator over the contents of the package, the new president, according to participants, replied: “I won.”

The statement was prompted by Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona , who challenged the president and the Democratic leaders over the balance between the package’s spending and tax cuts, bringing up the traditional Republican notion that a tax credit for people who do not earn enough to pay income taxes is not a tax cut but a government check.

Obama noted that such workers pay Social Security and Medicare taxes, property taxes and sales taxes. The issue was widely debated during the presidential campaign, when Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee, challenged Obama’s tax plan as “welfare.”

With those two words — “I won” — the Democratic president let the Republicans know that debate has been put to rest Nov. 4 .

They exploit weakness in everyone and thrive on intimidation of others. That’s just the way they operate worldwide. Solution?
Evacuate all American citizens in Libya and bring them home. Notify that acting president of Libya that in six days, there will be an American airstrike on the most sacred of their buildings, allowing the Libyans to clear them before they are destroyed. Message is that if you f**k with the wrong infidel, you pay the price. Call this prick’s bluff. He knew and sanctioned every move that these jokers made. You don’t do anything in a Muslim controlled country without those in control giving the OK. All of this tripe about the Libyans being our friends just a bunch of crap. They are supreme opportunists dead set on changing a country to fit their own needs, nothing else. And Bozo doesn’t have a clue.

“Would Romney being POTUS stop the protests and occasional attacks? No. But there is no doubt things would be better than under Obama.”

Really?

Who let OBL ride out of Tora Bora on a donkey? Who green flagged putting two bullets in OBL’s head?

As fake, plastic and flip floppy as Mittens is, I don’t think his presidency would be any more “respected” or feared than Obama’s is, or W’s was, or Slick Willy, et al…

Not only will he straighten out the ME, we’ll actually have more people working after he’s been POTUS for almost four years instead of less like we have with Obama.

Jay @ 9:52 Marty, I didn’t understand your last paragraph, but for the record, I’ve never criticized Bush for not preventing those attacks and have in fact defended him against that charge.

And when has any of your detractors ever let truth supercede their version of reality when they want to rant about you?

But there are many on your blog that do just that.

You seem to have something to say to those who accuse Obama of it but you stand silent when it is stated about Bush.

My last paragraph refers to lying in an earlier post about Romney and his feelings towards Bin Laden.
You have made the claim several times and as you spewed it in an earlier post it is false and I feel you are informed enough to know it is false.

Go back to the last page if you wish to see it again.

You wrote an entire article about the GOP taking the you didn’t built that quote out of context.
Then you go and do the exact same thing to Romney on a quote.

Why is it ok for one side to lie but not the other.

LARRY,

Different discussion with KYL…the meeting with Cantor was 3 days after inauguration and the “we won” phrase was used in the face of a idealogically balanced proposal and this response as well as other things during his first few months in office, including the stimulus debate left the GOP with the impression that after all the excitement surrounding BO’s alledged bi-partisan agenda that both sides bought into….

According to Jim Galloway, Saxby Chambliss weighed in on Romney’s statement and here is what he had to say:

”Look, we are less than 60 days out from the election of the next president…This is a heated campaign, and I think it is incumbent upon anybody that wants to be commander-in-chief to speak on matters of national security when times of emergency arise. That’s exactly what Governor Romney did. I won’t even go into what he said, because that part of it is immaterial. The fact is that he gave a response, and his response was very strong.”

Translation– “When anything hits the fan, make a big, bold, inflamatory statement as soon as possible. Don’t wait for any facts to influence said statement”.

Nice.

EAST LAKE,

Thanks for the suggestion…I’ve read books on both sides about which media is more biased toward whom and I find such mixed BS from both sides that I can’t make sense of any of it…seems the liberal press (i think 70% or so in polls leaned liberal) is frustrated by viewership of FOX that they will never achieved and the right is frustrated by the major networks, a majority of major newspapers and the left leaning MSNBC’s..

When the media became news, our ability to get objective info with which to make up our own minds vanished…people generally have their minds made up who they like and show their work with the news outlet leaning that direction..

I can’t speak for liberals, but I know the COUNTRY will gain much needed regulations on health insurance companies, bare minimum requirements for health plans, a leader that won’t go to war every time something stirs the pot, who won’t meet with a world leader who tries to tell him and the U.S. what to do publicly until that world leader has a chance to cool off, a continued respect from other western cultures that our populace is not, in fact, still majority stupid, abortions as needed and as wanted regardless of how that hurts religious people’s feelings, a chairman of the Federal Reserve who actually tries to do his job properly, women paying the same for a health insurance plan as men, etc etc etc.

In which he ALSO said he has defended Bush against those charges. Yet you claim he does no such thing for anyone on the right. Ever. In fact, he has defended people on the right as a major point of his blog posts before, and he has also attacked Democrats as a major point of his blog posts before.

Not that it should really matter. One does not to be seen as even handed in a world where one side really IS that much worse than the other. “Liberal media” is nothing more than a “shut up unless you’re going to take my side” argument. So, thanks but no thanks. People don’t avoid telling the truth just because it makes you uncomfortable. And no one ever truly gains credibility just by being even handed or loses it for placing the blame where it belongs.

This is not a “both sides do it” thing. This is an international incident that has nothing to do with R vs. D.

We all know that sometime in the future, we will have to confront the very thing that is gnawing at our security. We don’t fly those F-16s up and down our coasts to protect ourselves from Episcopalians. This dates clear back to before Reagan. Do you think for one minute that these goons would have killed the Russian ambassador to Libya and two Russian soldiers? Benghazi would have turned into a glass bowl. Review the You Tube tape of the Russians catching up with those Somali pirates who attacked a Russian ship. The Russians shelled their mother ship, killing all aboard and then did the same to the ones that they captured. Result? No more Russian ships have been bothered. They don’t fear us. Never have.

Romney is not. Do you want a nuclear armed Iran or not? I don’t.”

If it happens….you have to blame the US and Great Britain for it… for putting the Shah in power (Eisenhower and the CIA)….then the US alone for putting Saddam Hussein in power as the buffer(Ronald Reagan)…then REMOVING Saddam (George HW/George W Bush) to empower Iran as a rogue state!!

““What will the liberals gain if Obama remains in office? What lures the liberals to the Obama bench?”

Not being a liberal, I am just speculating, but what doesn’t lure them to the Obama bench? He is a very shiny object for them. He gives them a vehicle to redeem deeply rooted feelings of guilt. Though he’s a little stiff, he’s got a great smile and is able to cite just the right popular culture references to keep his supporters charmed. And he’s not a bad politician after all. He’s no Reagan, but he’s not an entirely unskilled man at the ways of wooing the masses, and outright propaganda. (See Michael Lewis, for ex.)

Meanwhile, we learn that the State Dept and Intelligence had advance warning of these attacks on the consulates and the adminstration did…..what for it………nothing.

Sigh…………….

This “unnamed sources” bull came from the British Newspaper the Independent. Tony Blair said of the Indepedent,” In a 12 June 2007 speech British Prime Minister Tony Blair called The Independent a “viewspaper”, saying it “was started as an antidote to the idea of journalism as views not news. That was why it was called the Independent. Today it is avowedly a viewspaper not merely a newspaper”.

In 2007, Alan Rusbridger, editor of The Guardian, said of The Independent: “The emphasis on views, not news, means that the reporting is rather thin, and it loses impact on the front page the more you do that.

IOW – The Independent may be the American National Enquirer…….
