Rasmussen confirms Gallup, strong Obama bump

The latest data from Rasmussen, which a month ago had Mitt Romney up by two percentage points, the only pollster to report a Romney lead at the time:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows President Obama attracting support from 50% of voters nationwide, while Mitt Romney earns 45% of the vote. Two percent (2%) prefer some other candidate, and three percent (3%) are undecided.

This is the president’s biggest lead over Romney among Likely Voters since March 17. Obama’s convention bounce has been more significant than Romney’s. As with all bounces, it remains to be seen how long it will last.

Nationwide polls are useless at this point. The only polls that matter are the ones from the 5-8 swing states that are still in play. We’ll see more this week as state polls get released.

The real news is that Obama got a bump and Romney didn’t. That says loosely-affiliated/undecided voters are looking for reasons to vote for Obama and found some at the convention… but didn’t see any reasons to vote for Romney at the RNC.

Erwin’s Cat from a few days ago:

Women DO make less than men. Watch this WHOLE thing. Take some damn apsirin and pepto bismol if you need to, and f***ing watch it.

[W]hether you have an occupation that is male-dominated or you have an occupation that’s female dominated, there’s one thing that just about every single job in America has in common. Dudes get paid more for doing it. If you are a driver, men get paid more. If you’re manager, men get paid more. If you’re a janitor, men get paid for. If you’re a retail salesperson, men get paid more. If you’re a sales rep, if you are a cook, a chief executive, a security guard, a police officer, a customer service representative– in all those cases, men get paid more. In 19 of the 20 jobs that are the most common occupations for men in this country, women lag behind what men get paid for doing that same work. It’s also true in the most common jobs that women have in this country. If you are a secretary, men get paid more. If you’re a teacher, men get paid more. If you’re nurse, men get paid more. If you’re a cashier, men get paid more. If you’re a receptionist, a financial manager, if you wait tables, men get paid more. Again, in 19 of the 20 jobs that are the most common occupations for women in this country, women lag behind what men get paid for the same work. Overall, when you aggregate everybody working, women get paid 77 cents for every dollar that men get paid. For the same work, dudes get paid more.

She goes on to interview a person in the know, who indicates that the pay disparity is REAL, NO MATTER “how you look at it.” This is why you should watch the whole thing. It BLOWS AWAY any concept that women getting paid less isn’t an actual reality.

It is bullsh*t that women who work the same job, with the same experience level, get paid the same amount. They get paid LESS. It’s not because they “choose” to raise children instead, it’s not because they are less valuable, it’s NOT because they have less human capital, NOT because they work less, NOT because of maternity leave, etc. Whatever the reasons are, it’s a truth that for the same work, dollar for dollar, women make less. My links may not “sway you” but that’s because you just believe what you want to.

And now that you have tried to insist to everyone here the WRONG information that women make the same as a man in the same job every single time with the same amount of experience, etc, I will be posting this frequently. Much like Rush’s comments against Sandra Fluke catapulted her to fame, your efforts have backfired.

More than that with SuperPAC money still coming in. But money is not winning this for Romney so far and there’s only so much media inventory available between now and the election. Their problem isn’t money, it’s a message that works. Did you see that they downloaded 15 new ads after the DNC closed? 15! No focused message there.

The most recent fundraising figures had Obama only $2M behind Romney, but with an average per-donor figure of around $55. Romney’s figure was up over a thousand bucks apiece.

That means that Romney’s drawing corporate and business money, while Obama’s drawing donations from people. And guess which group of donors can actually vote? :D

At a time when the blogosphere is wildly overestimating the mild bump in daily tracking polls, it is helpful to remember that whatever nudge Obama might have gotten could very well be the Clinton bump, not his own. Unfortunately for Obama, his name will appear on the November ballot.

The takeaway for Romney is the more they see of the GOP nominee the better, and voters’ continued exposure to Obama is not necessarily a plus for the incumbent president.

Bob Woodward: Still useless

The big “revelation” is that President Obama chews Nicorette and John Boehner drinks merlot. Merlot! That’s a sissy big-city effete liberal drink. Oooh, merlot, I bet that’s real refreshing after you’re done mowing your lawn (and weeping).

More revelations (that have already been reported elsewhere): Pelosi and Reid don’t work well with the president. Eric Cantor constantly undermines Boehner, and they hate each other. Everyone — Democrats and the entire GOP leadership — thinks the Tea Party people are insane. Everyone in Washington is super petty and very easily offended!

The book reflects the surreal Washington consensus surrounding the importance of immediate deficit reduction in as regressive (“tough”) a fashion as possible. All Serious People agree that it is Very Important that we reign in “entitlements” in the midst of a prolonged and disastrous employment crisis and that it is a tragic thing that we missed an opportunity to get some retirement ages raised last year, to Save The Economy. And a major theme, of course, is that Obama didn’t use his magic president powers hard enough.

The problems of a bitterly divided government, one involving dozens of choke-points for any legislative proposal and with one arm being presided over by a guy with absolutely no control over the large apocalyptic death cult wing of his party, are of course all described as failures of President Obama to “lead.” Why couldn’t he “lead” John Boehner to “lead” the fanatics in the House to do something none of them had any interest in doing??? Why couldn’t he “lead” John Boehner to call him back when Boehner was too scared to call him back because he knew he didn’t have the authority or power to promise enough votes to pass anything???

In reference to how Romney would deal with those with preexisting conditions and young adults who want to remain on their parents’ plans, a Romney aide responded that there had been no change in Romney’s position and that “in a competitive environment, the marketplace will make available plans that include coverage for what there is demand for. He was not proposing a federal mandate to require insurance plans to offer those particular features.”

Those aren’t my words. :)

I was simply reporting what’s being said over on the right hand side of the debate. Rubin’s pretty funny to read, especially the comments section. Some of those people are downright vicious.

Yep …………. Clinton wore nothing.

Not factually accurate. Even if your pants are around your ankles, you still have pants on. They are just not all the way on.

STANDS,

There are other books that corroborate what Woodward is saying about the info you posted….it’s very, very difficult to admit your baby has facial warts….HC passage and budget issues all paint your guy in a negative leadership light….he had little to nothing to do with HC passage, told GOP when they presented a plan prior to inauguration that featured dropping the bottom two tax rates, among other things, that “…we won, you lose..” and ignored what is right…

“Why is it that any “journalist” (whatever on earth that means now) who speaks out against your opinions is a “hack”? ”

You mean the only reason folks call our host a hack is because he does
not agree with them?

Don’t discount the last minute attack on BO’s void in the topic of leadership skills.

riiight. The guy who has been working Romney The Robot’s remote and banging him into steel girders is going to all of a sudden look like he can’t lead.

What, pray tell, is Team Romney going to pull out of their backsides at the last minute that they didn’t already throw against the wall?

To say nothing of the Pearl Harbor file in the White House with juicy bits from Romney’s tax returns just waiting to be leaked. (yes, That Would Be Wrong To Do. And they will do it if they have to.)

Flashback: Gallup Had Carter Up 4 Points Over Ronald Reagan in September 1980
“Back in 1980 Gallup had Jimmy Carter up over Ronald Reagan by 4 points in mid to late September… And, Carter was up 8 points in October. In fact there was a published Gallup poll showing Carter up six among likely voters in a poll conducted Oct. 24 to 27.”

Flashback: Dukakis Led Bush By 17 Points After 1988 DNC

“The media are gushing and fawning over new poll numbers showing Barack Obama getting a bounce from the just ended Democratic National Convention putting him four points ahead of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

Before they get too cocky, they might want to recall that after his convention ended in 1988, Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis led George H.W. Bush by seventeen points.”

FINN,

Wouldn’t you agree that after all the “promises” Obama made in 2008 that we shouldn’t put stock in any talk by either party?

Action did not back and will not back either…this isn’t an election as much as it’s and auction based on cash and BS..

Brosephus — “Those aren’t my words.”

I know. That’s why I italicized them and didn’t put them in quotes. :D

If you want some serious schadenfreude, check out the righty blogs like Free Republic. They were starting to eat their own over there after Romney’s TV appearance yesterday. One fine American on Freep even conjectured that Clint Eastwood was actually a Democratic operative who was *trying* to make Romney and the GOP look bad so the ZOMG SOSHULISTS could win the election. :D

You might want to consider that *many* more tools are available to pollsters today than were available in 1980 and 1988.

GRANNY,

Exactly…I bet if the GOP win, the DEMS will become the obstructionists and the GOP will become the blamers…

STANDS,

Try something out of character, read “Leading From Behind” as well as Woodwards book…it’s refreshing to get both perspectives before you pop off…if you get them on Kindle, nobody will see you read them!

Don’t get me wrong–I still totally believe Obama could flush this down the crapper. Job losses for October (the release date for those will be Sunday before the election) combined with some horror out of the Middle East could possibly turn this.

But when I see Nate giving VA and OH a 77% & and 74% chance of going for Obama, that doesn’t appear to be the way to bet.

I haven’t been to Free Republic in a while. It may be time to make a breeze through. I’ll probably go to Red State too. There have been some pretty funny meltdowns on that site as well.

Try doing that in public and see if the police/courts say you “still have pants on”.

BRO,

The odds of Clinton not removing his pants (as opposed to around ankles or not wearing underware) anytime during the countless BJ’s enjoyed in WH is remote…can you imagine all the times he didn’t get caught?

Reminds me of joke…whats the difference between a blimp and 365 BJ’s?
