Gallup documents good post-convention jump for Obama

Mitt Romney got what you call a dead-cat bounce coming out of the 2012 Republican Convention in Tampa Bay. According to the folks at Gallup, Barack Obama has done a whole lot better.

His job approval number now stands at 52 percent, a nine-point jump since late August. Nothing in the news cycle — other than the convention — could account for an improvement that significant. The same is true of the head-to-head contest with Romney, where Obama has transformed a two-point deficit into a four-point advantage.

gallup1

Gallup2

In the battle of the conventions, in other words, Obama and the Democrats are the decisive victors. Nonetheless, I expect the race to tighten again as the post-convention aura fades, with the next possible inflection point coming on Oct. 3.

That’s the date of the first presidential debate at the University of Denver.

Parents aren’t the only solution, but they should be the kids highest center of influence and have the greatest impact. Sorry your mother raised stupid children. It’s a shame the government couldn’t step in to help since they know how to raise children better than her.

I had to take the president’s physical fitness challenge almost if not every year I was in school. Something the left would frown on today because it’s not fair some children would do better than others on the test. Not everyone got a ribbon and a juice box for that one, like is required today.

WOW, now THAT is compelling stuff, Jm! Truly convincing in it’s specificity and believability!!!

I’m going to post something off topic (but if I know the Bookman faithful, it’s already off topic).

I don’t know how many of you know about the same sex marriage kerfluffle (love using that word) that occured in Md between Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo and Md state delegate Emmett C Burns Jr (D), but here is a short recap.

Brendon has been vocal about his support of same sex marrage and Mr Burns sent a letter to the Ravens in effect saying that the Ravens should use their power as an employer to silence Brendon. The Ravens refused (as they should have).

The funny twist came when Vikings punter Chris Kluwe posted a response to Mr. Burns.

Even if you don’t like football it’s worth a read (some of you may get a kick out of his wordsmithery).

Obama gets a bump for no real reason that I can figure. Why? He’s done a poor job domestically although he has outperformed internationally.

However Obama will win a second term. Romney can’t win without carrying Virginia or Ohio and those two states, controlled by republican legislatures, have implmented the harshest restrictions on choice this year. Women are very angry and will be motivated to get out and vote against the GOP for their senseless intrusions into their personal lives. While the anti-choice measures in these states have nothing to do with Romney personally he will be victimized nonetheless, guilt by association.

Unless the GOP gets out of the religion business, specifically the perverted evangelical relgion business, the party will continue on its merry way to irrelevance.

Erwin’s Cat form a few days ago:

Women DO make less than men. Watch this WHOLE thing. Take some damn apsirin and pepto bismol if you need to, and f***ing watch it.

[W]hether you have an occupation that is male-dominated or you have an occupation that’s female dominated, there’s one thing that just about every single job in America has in common. Dudes get paid more for doing it. If you are a driver, men get paid more. If you’re manager, men get paid more. If you’re a janitor, men get paid for. If you’re a retail salesperson, men get paid more. If you’re a sales rep, if you are a cook, a chief executive, a security guard, a police officer, a customer service representative– in all those cases, men get paid more. In 19 of the 20 jobs that are the most common occupations for men in this country, women lag behind what men get paid for doing that same work. It’s also true in the most common jobs that women have in this country. If you are a secretary, men get paid more. If you’re a teacher, men get paid more. If you’re nurse, men get paid more. If you’re a cashier, men get paid more. If you’re a receptionist, a financial manager, if you wait tables, men get paid more. Again, in 19 of the 20 jobs that are the most common occupations for women in this country, women lag behind what men get paid for the same work. Overall, when you aggregate everybody working, women get paid 77 cents for every dollar that men get paid. For the same work, dudes get paid more.

It is bullsh*t that women who work the same job, with the same experience level, get paid the same amount. They get paid LESS. It’s not because they “choose” to raise children instead, it’s not because they are less valuable, it’s NOT because they have less human capital. Whatever the reasons are, it’s a truth that for the same work, dollar for dollar, women make less. My links may not “sway you” but that’s because you just believe what you want to.

And now that you have tried to insist to everyone here the WRONG information that women make the same as a man in the same job every single time with the same amount of experience, etc, I will be posting this frequently. Much like Rush’s comments against Sandra Fluke catapulted her to fame, your efforts have backfired.

In June, Republicans united to block the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would allow for punitive damages for pay discrimination and bar companies from retaliating against workers who inquire about pay disparities or discuss their pay with co-workers.

The rest of this is a good read as well.

Adam

Republican leaders aren’t just opposed to explicitly pay-oriented policies; they also don’t want to allow women with deflated paychecks to access more affordable healthcare. Romney and Ryan want to repeal Obama’s healthcare law, which guarantees annual exams for women and mammograms for those over 40 at no additional cost. Ryan also voted to defund Planned Parenthood four times, and his budget would eliminate funding for access to birth control, and STD and cancer screenings, for low-income families.

Adam

September 9th, 2012

It’s true that the equal pay laws we already have on the books – the Equal Pay Act, the Ledbetter Act and Title VII protections – are solid. But considering the size and persistence of the pay gap, it’s clear that existing laws need to be strengthened and enforced, and more protections are needed for those who speak up about basic workplace fairness.

Still, Republicans prefer to do nothing.

I don’t think the cons are serious about taking the WH this time,
by the candidates they fielded. I think they are maneuvering, esp
with the AynRyan pick, to topple Harry Reid and keep the House,
and filibuster any progress, even if it collapses the world economy.

Desperation like I’ve never seen. They’ve done the math. They know
the demographics (codeword) overtake them in either 2016 or ‘20.
Short term thinkers, in unhinged survival mode. And while it is
amusing to watch, it also makes them dangerous, in a Tim McVeigh
kind of way.

Adam

September 9th, 2012

Republican leaders and their backers in the US Chamber of Commerce claim that laws like the Paycheck Fairness Act would lead to “frivolous” lawsuits. But it’s the job of the courts, not lobbyists, to decide which lawsuits should be allowed to move forward. Republicans also claim that Democrats were using the act as an election-year ploy to appeal to women. That’s not much of an argument: if political opportunism results in better policy platforms and stronger laws, I’m all for it.

Adam

September 9th, 2012
2:44 pm

Of course, the pay gap has a number of causes, and a single new law can’t correct them overnight. Women are paid less because of discrimination by employers, because of the fact that women dominate lower-paying “pink collar” fields like education, caregiving and social service, and because of a lack of protections for women who take time off to give birth and care for a child.

But entrenched problems call for creative solutions. Protecting workers who speak up about pay is one of them, and opening the floodgates to this kind of information-sharing would accelerate progress. Why not also require that employers disclose pay scales to bring transparency to compensation – which is too often based on biased or arbitrary decisions?

The Republican party will have none of it. But as its candidates remain wilfully blind to pay disparities and possible solutions, they’re creating a political gender gap that not even Ann Romney’s love can close.

Left falls for fake Romney quote: ‘I can relate to black people, my ancestors once owned slaves’

“The quote originally appeared in the Free Wood Post and was re-published at GhanaNation.com. So it must be true!

Apparently none of these people read the Free Wood Post’s disclaimer:

‘All news articles contained within FreeWoodPost.com are fiction, and presumably fake news.’”
