Mitt Romney got what you call a dead-cat bounce coming out of the 2012 Republican Convention in Tampa Bay. According to the folks at Gallup, Barack Obama has done a whole lot better.
His job approval number now stands at 52 percent, a nine-point jump since late August. Nothing in the news cycle — other than the convention — could account for an improvement that significant. The same is true of the head-to-head contest with Romney, where Obama has transformed a two-point deficit into a four-point advantage.

In the battle of the conventions, in other words, Obama and the Democrats are the decisive victors. Nonetheless, I expect the race to tighten again as the post-convention aura fades, with the next possible inflection point coming on Oct. 3.
That’s the date of the first presidential debate at the University of Denver.

I’m not sure that Bookman is a “steaming pile” but I would agree that many of his surrogates on this blog certainly fit that description. Bookman is just doing his job…. the rest of you are doing it to destroy this country and all it stands for. The majority of those in this country do not want to live in an Obama America. It is abhorrent to them and to me. His vision of this country just doesn’t make any sense. He is a narcissistic buffoon who has failed miserably, to date, but will, no doubt, with a second term, do more damage to our way of life than anyone could. I don’t blame him as much as I blame those idiots that will vote for him. You are just as much an enemy of this country as he is, perhaps more.

The question is not whether there are any differences, but what the differences are.

Larry Flynt Offering $1 Million For Mitt Romney's Tax Returns

Larry Flynt is at it again.
The Hustler founder is offering a $1 million reward for information on Mitt Romney’s taxes, AdWeek reports. Flynt, an outspoken critic of Romney, is taking out two full page ads in Sunday’s issues of USA Today and The Washington Post to publicize the offer.
The ad offers cash in exchange for “unreleased tax returns and/or details of his offshore assets, bank accounts and business partnerships.”

Let me tell ya`ll a true story. It is how one man saved a city of 50,000.
I don`t remember exact years, but here is what I remember.
1962 Race tensions in Albany are high and I am 11 years old. Most Albany white males are awarded their first shotgun at 11 or 12. Kind of like a redneck barmitsva. sp (I an`t even close enough for spell ck to help)
A neighborhood kid who is 16 w/ a drivers license comes over and says, get your shotgun and load up, the sh*t is going down. Me and 4 more 12 or 13 year old jump in the back of the pick up truck with our shotguns. (picture Somalians with RPGs)
We are cruising the black section of town looking for the enemy.
Woah, oh sh*t, there is my maid Willie! Everybody get down. She sure ain`t the enemy and she will whupp my but and tell mama that we have the shotguns out.
We keep cruising looking for the enemy. Oh lawd, Get down. There is Rudy, the school janitor. He ain`t the enemy. He is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, for one of “those people”.
Well dang, where is all the bad ones?
We repeated our patrols, but could never find the enemy that the community had us so worked up over.
Then the sh*t really did hit the fan during one of the marches. Me and the little Somalians loaded up, armed to the teeth. I see other car loads of youngsters patrolling. We are ready!
When we got to the action, we saw the police are beating blacks, but the blacks are not fighting back.
WTF? Fight back, run, do something, anything. How can we back up the cops if you people don`t do something?
Looking back, if MLK had used ANY other plan other than non violence in Albany, Ga, it would have ended in big bloodshed. Albany would have a greater stigma (X 1000) than the Kent State massacre or any other massacre in history, because we were brainwashed and heavily armed.
Thank you Dr. King for saving me and Albany.

No mystery here. The RNC was a depressing, hateful, sarcastic, dark, mean spirited, dishonest mess. It was like watching Bette Davis torment Joan Crawford in “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane”. The DNC was the diametric opposite. It was hopeful, fun, optimistic, positive and joyful. The Democrats connected. It was like watching a fun filled stage production of “Annie”.

It would be great to have first hand stories from all perspectives of those involved, including the ones who wielded the clubs and dogs. You really have put a human face (Willie, Rudy, you) on those turbulent and violent times.
My father was from Bogalusa, Louisiana and was rabidly racist. So it was what I “knew”. But it took me about three days of being in the USAF to start shaking off that demon. It did not happen overnight and it came with some great deal of difficulty, but in not much time at all, I realized that the destiny for me and my generation (baby! Why don’t ya all f…f…f…fade away?) would be VERY different from the one that preceded us. Not just in terms of race but in a myriad of other ways as well.

Good thing you’re not responsible for our national security then.
http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2010/04/too_fat_to_fight_obesity_and_n.html
But now the military has the opposite problem, young people are getting too much nutrition. A growing number of potential recruits are “too fat to fight.”
More than 9 million Americans of prime recruiting age are too heavy to join up, says the group, called Mission: Readiness.
“Overall only 1 in 4 of our young adults between the ages of 17 and 24 is eligible for military service,” says Rear Adm. Jamie Barnett (ret.). Obesity is one of the main reasons, he says.
You may personally think she’s misguided in her healthy eating campaign, but she’s actually looking out for your national security in a sense. I know you’re loathe to give anybody credit when they don’t have an (R) behind their name, so I’ll understand if you don’t agree with the idea that her campaign is actually very much needed.
Exactly my point. If the president was a good leader, he wouldn’t need to “put out” anything. You would already know it.
If the president had a plan, how would you “already know it” if he doesn’t put it out first? Think about that for a minute. Your point and my point were not one and the same if you think that’s what I was saying.

I’ve read a few excerpts from that book, and I have a slightly different view on the whole lack of leadership thing that people are trying to pin on Obama.
The majority of Americans would probably fail a basic civics test based on popular conversation nowadays. The president has absolutely zero “leadership” responsibility over Congress. The whole idea that Obama should lead Congress to find solutions to our problems is in complete conflict with not only the Constitution, but also the way our Founding Fathers set up our government.
We have three separate but equal branches by design. Giving the president even the slightest of “leadership” control over Congress means that he is a leader of both branches. Congress has it’s own leadership, and only when necessary is the Vice President a party to any Congressional proceedings. Most people have a very warped sense of responsibilities in DC, but what we are witnessing is a President who has taught Constitutional Law simply trying to function within the true outlines of the Constitution.
Do I think he should be more involved? Yes. Do I expect him to be all involved? No, and that’s because I am well aware of his background in regards to the Constitution. I’m also aware of what duties are assigned to each branch according to the Constitution.
One thing that the Right has stated that I firmly agree with is that we need to get back to governing within the guidelines of the Constitution. That means that Congress is responsible for doing their job and not expecting Obama to lead them in doing their job. Per the Constitution, Obama is my boss, and I don’t have anybody in Congress in my direct chain of leadership.

I found a liquor store with no problem at all but it was my first experience with a liquor store that doesn’t sell beer (that small hamlet in the N.C. Mtns. is the same way so I’m used to that now). And I found a warehouse, but the smallest amount available was a case. Now I like beer and it was a long weekend trip (Fri. – Mon.) and I probably drink a little too much beer, but I ain’t gonna try to drink a case of beer in a weekend and attend soccer matches and do the tourist thing.

josef, Brosephus: Is that the same CNN with Anderson Cooper doing the b*tch slap on Debbie Wasserman-Schutz?
It’s also the same CNN that:
-said the mandate was unconstitutional for 14 full minutes
-had Erin Burnett interview Occupy people with a large font “SERIOUSLY?” at the bottom of the ticker tape screen
-had Erin Burnett spend a full 20-30 minutes after Obamacare was upheld insisting that “everyone” is hurt by it
-had Wolf Blitzer call out an Obama SuperPAC ad for being “not accurate” while not even touching the Romney welfare ad or others in an even remotely similar televised manner.
So, you know, just CRAWLING with liberal bias there….

jamvet- All I ever hear about is how they are starving so we have to give them free breakfast, lunch, and dinner now. So are they starving or fat? What a pathetic response! Seriously. REAL seriously
Extremely serious on that one. American is the only country I know where kids are considered “starving” and extremely obese AT THE SAME TIME.
Plenty of fat kids of all sizes, shapes, and colors. Do you seriously think banning XL big gulps is going to solve the problem?
Good to know my support of families is “highly racist”. Maybe the Democrats can work on repealing that law that says only whites are allowed to have two parent households.
I wouldn’t even notice color if not for people like you telling me how “special” and “unique” you are, and that I don’t understand because I’m white.

Yes, as a part of a comprehensive plan that involves other sensible choices involving eating healthier foods.
But then again I can’t take anyone seriously who offers the binary either/or nonsense such as you display

Some really great brews come from The Highlands Brewing Co. out of Asheville. Somewhat difficult to find in the ATL but you can’t swing a dead cat in a grocery store in N.C. without hitting a six pack or two.

Brosephus- “Overall only 1 in 4 of our young adults between the ages of 17 and 24 is eligible for military service,” says Rear Adm. Jamie Barnett (ret.). Obesity is one of the main reasons, he says
Having been a recruiter, I actually think the number of qualified recruits is lower than that. Health problems, obesity, drug use, and law violations eliminate most possible recruits. If they are healthy, once you try to make them do something physical they break since most have been couch potatoes all their life. At any given time, over 1/2 your basic trainees are on profile.
I’m all for eating healthy. Kids don’t do nearly enough exercise in school anymore. (my son said a friend of his got out of gym this year by taking an online course over the summer). I think Michelle is misguided in trying to outlaw my right to buy french fries and big gulps. She would make a much better president than her husband. I can see the leadership in her he desperately lacks. There is no doubt who wears the pants in that family.

JKL2, Trust me on this one. A leading cause of gun related deaths in this country is suicide. though women attempt suicide more often than men, they aren’t very good at it. The tend to favor sleeping pills. Think Marilyn Monroe. Men on the other hand are more likely to take the time honored approach of blowing their brains out. Think Ernest Hemingway. No sissy pills for Ernest. Pills don’t work all the time. Some times people find you. Sometimes you don’t take enough. they’re just to risky. Blowing your brains out is a sure bet. Who needs Dr. death when you’ve got a loaded gun. sometimes an unloaded gun will work just fine though. Think Terry Kath.

How about we put the whole country on nutrisystem? Everyone will get their meals pre-packaged in the mail so we can ensure everyone eats properly. No need to worry about “what’s for supper” anymore.
I’m sure all those people working in the restaurant and grocery industry will be happy with their new jobs working for government food service. You would never have to tip again…

All I ever hear about…
Redact to read “All I ever focus on…
See how that works?
That means that you are taking personal responsibility for your own self-imposed ignorance. And honestly, in this day and age where accurate information is so readily available, it appears that it is simply a case of you being flat out, cravenly intellectually dishonest based on your bizarre political worldview rather than feigned ignorance.
Playing stupid is not attractive, 2.
You conflate wholly different issues to make your irrational position look less ugly, but I, and I suspect a whole lot of other folks here, am not fooled by your sophistry.
I have no idea how old you are, but I gather that you have no clue about Ike’s and JFK’s wonderfully successful programs to get American children in better physical condition. Why? Because American children were FAR less fit than those from many other countries. Is that something that you are proud of?
President Eisenhower established the President’s Council on Youth Fitness with Executive Order 10673, issued on July 16, 1956.
John F. Kennedy showed his commitment to improving the nation’s fitness even before he took the oath of office. After the election, he published “The Soft American” in Sports Illustrated. The article established four points as the basis of his proposed program, including a “White House Committee on Health and Fitness”; direct oversight by the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare; an annual Youth Fitness Congress to be attended by state governors; and the assertion that physical fitness was very much the business of the federal government.
Only a month after the inauguration, the new administration convened a conference on physical fitness, reorganized the President’s Council on Youth Fitness, and chose a new director, Charles “Bud” Wilkinson, a highly successful University of Oklahoma football coach. True to Kennedy’s style, the new executive for the council was named a special consultant to the president. The president’s council unquestionably became President Kennedy’s council.
Childhood obesity among white children, and minority children, is disastrously out of hand. And you don’t want anyone, in a position of power and influence, doing a damn thing to help. Even though parents are obviously losing the battle. Because they TOO are Twinkies addicts and couch potatoes. And YOU actually think that they are the only solution?!
In ANY sort of intellectual forum, you would be laughed out of the room for even suggesting these kinds of things…

Dumb rule, but I know they are at least trying to prevent someone (not me) from drinking too much.
So if Gov regulation is good enough for beer, then it`s good enough for 72 oz of HFCS and caffeine.

American is the only country I know where kids are considered “starving” and extremely obese AT THE SAME TIME.
There is a strong correlation between income inequality and obesity:
http://www.jrf.org.uk/sites/files/jrf/inequality-income-social-problems-full.pdf
A possible reason is that those who have lower income don’t “starve,” but instead eat food that is lower quality (super processed) and may shut down the body’s natural “stop eating” switch. As such, kids and poor people get obese, and because of the continual enlarging of the stomach due to eating more than your fill all the time, you become more hungry at some point then is healthy, and possibly more hungry than you can afford. Assuming that the lowest quality foods are also the cheapest, you also gravitate even further toward these foods the more food you feel you need. Vicious cycle.

I think Michelle is misguided in trying to outlaw my right to buy french fries and big gulps.
I think you’re misguided in thinking that she’s trying to outlaw anything. She’s promoting eating healthy and not promoting banning anything. There is a difference, and I don’t think she’s proposing such a binary choice.
When I was in high school, you could take band and use it as a PE credit. Considering we were a “high octane” traditional performing band and we practiced harder and more than the football team, you did more at band practice on some days than you would have done in PE. Nowadays, I’m not sure if PE is still offered/taken in school. When they started cutting budgets years ago, PE teachers were some of the first to be cast off the island.
As to the XL big gulps, they are a symptom of the problem. Oversized proportions is one of our major problems when it comes to weight and health. Limiting access to those XL portions for some may be the equivalent of restricting access to Oxycotin to drug abusers. They are all addictions, and you can’t cure addictions by giving unfettered access to the vice of choice.

One of the biggest mistakes (IMUO) ever made was to get rid of PE in school.
And this had huge bipartisan support, as both Democrats and Republicans just hate to think that their Two Ton Johnny and Lardass Susie are uncomfortable!
OMG! Their comfort is everything!!
I say run them til they puke.
And then tomorrow they get to have fun playing different active games, etc.
Then the next day, run them again. And so on.
PE every semester until they graduate from high school.
In most cases,it is too late for their lazy, soft as pillow, parents, but not for them.
If only we had more Ikes, JFKs and Michelle Os to inspire and lead our children out of their SUV chauffeured darkness…
