Mitt Romney got what you call a dead-cat bounce coming out of the 2012 Republican Convention in Tampa Bay. According to the folks at Gallup, Barack Obama has done a whole lot better.
His job approval number now stands at 52 percent, a nine-point jump since late August. Nothing in the news cycle — other than the convention — could account for an improvement that significant. The same is true of the head-to-head contest with Romney, where Obama has transformed a two-point deficit into a four-point advantage.

In the battle of the conventions, in other words, Obama and the Democrats are the decisive victors. Nonetheless, I expect the race to tighten again as the post-convention aura fades, with the next possible inflection point coming on Oct. 3.
That’s the date of the first presidential debate at the University of Denver.

How do you go from 8.3% unemployment to 8.1% and only add a paltry 79K jobs to the economy? Answer? More people have quit looking or are taking that part time dead end job just to stay off of the dole.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — The drop in the unemployment rate in August isn’t particularly good news for the economy — it’s driven mostly by nearly 400,000 people dropping out of the labor force, rather than more people finding jobs.
But those dropping out aren’t so much the discouraged 30-, 40- or 50-year olds. In fact, the Labor Department said there was a modest decline in the overall number of discouraged job seekers.
The drop is because so many young adults, aged 16 to 24, are no longer looking for work.
There were 453,000 fewer young adults with jobs in August than in July. But despite that plunge, only 27,000 more young people were looking for new jobs. Most apparently stopped looking and left the labor force. And those numbers take into account seasonal factors such as younger workers returning to school.
As a result, the percentage of young people who are counted in the labor force fell to its lowest level since 1955.
http://money.cnn.com/2012/09/07/news/economy/young-adults-jobs/index.html?iid=HP_LN
If you think those young people are going to go vote for Romney and Ryan, the very two who are intent on “reforming” the very programs they have to be employed to provide for current and near future retirees, then it’s not the entire electorate that’s stupid. I’d say it’s more of a subset within that electorate.
I don’t have the statistics, but I’m willing to wager it’s been a long, long time since the GOP has captured the majority of the young vote in a presidential election. It’s probably been long enough that the entire DNA of the GOP has morphed since.
Again, Bookman, the American electorate is not that stupid.
Ok.. Your post is “wishful thinking” then since the American electorate is not that stupid.

” The more difficult task is to punish the Republican Party for being taken over by right-wing extremists.”
It is the Democratic party that has been taken over by the extremist. Where are the Blue dogs? Are there any left in the party? The Blue dogs were the biggest caucus in the house less then 10 years ago and there may be 10 members left now and the Progressive (socialist) caucus was very small and now they are the biggest group.

Its amazing to me. A “real man” is secure enough to know that a strong woman would compliment him by making him become a better man.
Well yeah. And the inverse of that is also true.
But I’ve fallen for the ones that wanted me to compete against them and took my lack of interest in any such competition against them as a sign of weakness, or as the last one put it, I “needed to grow a set.”

It’s all spin. Do you think that the Labor Dept or CNN Money would publish a report on jobs numbers that would hurt Bozo’s chance for re-election? Read the WSJ for their spin. Sounds a lot more convincing and a lot more credible. Nothing but liberal airheads would base their vote on Bozo’s likeability or whether or not Sandra has her BC pills. This electorate is hurting and jobs are the number one thing on their list. To quote the most famous liberal spinmeister, “It’s the economy, stupid”.

Such bollocks, and on a Football Saturday. Do you not have any shame at all?
If you really want to know what happened to the Blue Dog Democrats, then look no further than the State GOP caucuses. As more and more states end up with GOP leadership, they are gerrymandering moderate Democrats out of the House in an effort to try to lock up a “permanent” majority.
The thing is, the idiots fail to realize there is no permanent majority, ever, in politics. Why not post the number of Blue Dog Democrats who resigned vs those who lost to a far-left Liberal. Then compare those numbers agains the number of RINO’s who resigned vs the number who were defeated by far-right Conservatives.
Whether anybody wants to admit it or not, the political gamesmanship being waged by the far-right is completely screwing up the political landscape. No system ever runs right when you knock it out of balance. In their attempts to rig elections by re-districting, Republicans have thrown the political system way out of balance.

Are you talking about the very same CNN where Erick Erickson, of RedState and Macon, GA, regularly shows up as a commentator?
Are you talking about the very same CNN that has a Breitbart editor, Dana Loesch, hired as a regular commentator as well?

And you think the American electorate is stupid enough to vote en masse for the very same party that ran on “jobs, jobs, jobs” in the last election and don’t have piss in a pot to show for their campaign rhetoric? If jobs are number one and that’s what people are going to vote on, then neither party would get a single vote. They both suck at job creation, and that’s because neither party can do a damn thing about it.
Tax cuts don’t create jobs. Demand does.

I think kayaker may have read this opinion piece earlier today…
http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/08/opinion/obeidallah-white-protestants/index.html?hpt=hp_t2
CNN) — Attention white Anglo-Saxon Protestants: Your days of running things are over. You have jumped the shark.
But there’s no need to feel bad for WASPs.
They’ve had an amazing run. Every single president in our nation’s history, except for John F. Kennedy — a Catholic — and Barack Obama, has been a white Protestant. Except for a handful of exceptions, for over 200 years the presidential nominees of both major political parties have been WASPs. WASPs had almost as many victories in a row as The Harlem Globetrotters.
But it’s over. Look at this year’s presidential tickets: A Mormon, an African-American, and two Catholics. Even some of the keynote speakers at the Democratic and Republican conventions were not WASPs. The GOP featured Italian-Irish Catholic Chris Christie and the Democrats tapped Latino-American, Julian Castro.
In all seriousness though, given the fact that White America will lose their majority status within a few decades, the fact that someone would post a statement such as, “It’s going to be up to conservative, white America to save this country. No one else seems to have the sense to do it.” gives me pause to wonder if we won’t see some last ditch effort to cling to that power with something resembling apartheid. The fact that someone seriously thinks it’s up to any particular race to “save” America speaks volumes anyway.

However, for someone to think Blacks are so inherently bad and criminal, if we’ll kill our own with little remorse, does he think those same people will hesitate to kill someone from a different race?
I honestly and seriously hope that we don’t get to the point of anything violent happening. Toyota production was hurt badly after the tsunami. GM sells how many more models of cars, trucks and SUVs? Here’s 50 billion (or whatever the # was). Wht do you see happening?
1-Toyota
2-GM
Let me know where I’m wrong.

I had not intended that to be about violence, since the quoted sentence had to do with whites being the only ones with sense. My point was that you and yours weren’t smart enough to see it coming.

It wasn’t English…it’s various African dialects and languages. If you are interested, check out Lprenzo Turner’s studies. It would sound similar to the “untrained” ear, the cadences and rhythms are very similar. The Black Creole of Louisiana is a similar thing. The dialects of the Sea Islands are marked by the vocabulary, grammar, syntax and pronunciation patterns of the Gold-Slave Coasts and those of Louisiana more by the Congolese. Both are mostly Bantu but as different as, say Russian and Spanish…both Indo European, but distinct. What I was working on was the influence of the two (Gullah-Geechee and Black Creole) on the Southern dialect(s) in general.

I think the inherent problem was that blacks thought that the population as a whole would follow the law when the Civil Rights Acts were passed.
The racists in any society follow their own rules and it takes a dying out of that genetic flaw before everyone can be equal in their eyes.
I hope its not a gene transferred between too many generations

Ok, I gotcha. Stevie Wonder would see it coming from miles away if something like that were to happen. If one thinks people are not ready to come from the trees, that same person would never acknowledge the intellectuals in that same group. I’ll admit that we have more than our fair share of dumbasses though, and they tend to get far more publicity than their true percentages would dictate.

In my opinion, if we were truly a Christian nation, we wouldn’t have to legislate such things in the first place. After the 60’s, I think many Blacks naively though that would be the case. As we have come to find out, if we are indeed a Christian nation, we are in dire need of a revival and a return to true Christian behavior.

Unlike more than a few here, I do not play the victim.

Not having grown up in a community with blacks, but having gone to Catholic Schools with a few who were the children of professionals shaped my opinions.
Working construction with hard workers of both races shaped my opinions.
Working as a professional with both races has convinced me that there is no difference in the races.

Which is why I can still be an optimist AND a drama queen!
But, seriously, we are after all, a product of our time and place and, in all humility (well, at least as much as my ancestrally uppity self can muster) we’ve not done such a bad job of leaving it a better place for our having passed through.
