Perhaps out of a forced sense of optimism, President Obama has predicted that if he wins re-election, Republicans in Congress will be more willing to work with him than they proved to be in his first term, when defeating him became their primary goal.
As he told the Associated Press:
“What I’m offering the American people is a balanced approach that the majority agrees with, including a lot of Republicans. And for me to be able to say to the Republicans, the election is over; you no longer need to be focused on trying to beat me; what you need to be focused on and what you should have been focused on from the start is how do we advance the American economy — I’m prepared to make a whole range of compromises, some of which I get criticized from the Democratic Party on, in order to make progress. But we’re going to need compromise on your side as well. And the days of viewing compromise as a dirty word need to be over because the American people are tired of it.
That’s, I think, a message that will resonate not with every Republican, but I think with a lot of fair-minded Republican legislators who probably feel somewhat discouraged about having served in one of the least productive Congresses in American history.”

Nancy Pelosi, who happens to have a ground-level view of the situation, disagrees, insisting that her Republican colleagues will be just as obstinate as ever.
“I see this president sit for hours being very respectable, but trying to find a path where there could be agreement when there is [none],” Pelosi said. “‘Never. Does never work for you?’ That’s really what they’re saying to the president.”
Conservative pundit Ramesh Ponnuru, writing in Bloomsberg, agrees with Pelosi:
“If the president believes anything like this would happen in his second term, he is kidding himself. If Obama wins re-election, the Republican Party will react by moving right, not left. It will become less likely to compromise with Obama, not more….
Republicans, especially at the grassroots level, would react to Obama’s re-election by assuming that Romney failed because he was too moderate. That’s a very widespread view among Republicans about why Senator John McCain lost in 2008. During the primaries, many of Romney’s opponents argued that he would lose because he would fail to energize conservatives. This interpretation of 2008 is probably wrong, and it will probably be the wrong explanation for a Romney defeat, if it happens. It will nonetheless be an appealing theory for conservatives.”
Pelosi and Ponnuru are probably correct. Absent a major and unexpected swing in voter sentiment, I’m doubtful that most Republicans will be any more willing to compromise and act reasonably than they have been for the past four years. A cult that defines itself by its own intransigence will not surrender that identity easily.
Sure, a few of their more responsible members — perhaps including House Speaker John Boehner and senators such as Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson of Georgia — may be willing to cut a deal with the president on spending and revenue, but the success of the ongoing Great RINO Purge probably ensures that they will be too few in number and influence to make a difference.
In other words, this game of political chicken is likely to continue for as long as a largely apathetic and ill-informed American public is willing to tolerate it. I don’t see that changing soon.

“The kind of campaign Obama is running militates against his credibly claiming a mandate after getting re- elected. He is, for the most part, banking on getting reelected by tearing down Romney rather than attracting voters with his own second-term agenda.”

Jay – Pelosi went on to say that when Obama wins he’ll have to go over the GOP’s heads and talk to the American people as he did with Student Loans. He won that fight using exactly that strategy and when he wins, he’ll have to do more of the same.
The GOP will only vote to do the right thing when they see their grasp on power at stake. Obama needs to back them into a corner and poke ‘em with a sharp stick over and over again.
Talking directly to the electorate directly does exactly that.

Obama is not dumb, and I’m all for him to be re-elected, but he does sound hopelessly naive. I would have thought that his first term would have taught him that the Republicans never back down from trying to stick it to a Democratic president. Mr. Obama, do you really believe that their goal is simply to defeat you in November, and that if you are re-elected, they will say, “Oh, well, he got re-elected, let’s let bygones be bygones”? NO! They will be so pi**ed off at your winning a second term that they will try harder than ever to stick it to you, in any way they can!

While Americans are voting to re-elect President Obama, maybe they should also vote for Congressmen and Senators who are most likely to work with him as well.
The Democrats were right to pass the Recovery Act that contributed to creating 4+ million private sector jobs. The Democrats were right to save the American automobile industry. The Democrats were right to pass the Affordable Care Act. The Democrats were right to give us the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Now we need more Democrats to grow the economy and reduce deficits by putting even more Americans back to work.

If you think “Obama re-election not likely to ease GOP intransigence,” I guarantee you that Romney’s election will not likely ease leftist lunacy. Obamanomics has taken full effect now, and has given us the worst – meaning “slowest” and “weakest” – “recovery” in history. Yet the Obama program is for more of the same, and assumes they will get a different and better result. Even Keynes would not embrace the policies of the previous three years. That’s the real depressing part of it – Republicans who are oh-so-willing to put ideology above country. Some patriots, those. Pres Obama needs to adapt his style to the situation – the essence of leadership – and go full bore into the ‘give’em hell Harry” Truman mode. I also understand Pres Roosevelt, in his radio addresses, would go down a list of Congressmen holding up his proposals, call them out and tell the people that’s why they continued to be in difficulty.
Republican leadership needs to be put on the spot, publicly, and then we’ll see how long their weak-intellect rhetoric lasts.

Charlotte Observer: ‘Dems blow it’
By DONOVAN SLACK |
9/5/12 1:30 PM EDT
The editorial page editor of the Charlotte Observer is not happy.
Taylor Batten posted a scathing column Wednesday skewering the Obama camp’s decision to move President Obama’s speech indoors — and turn away tens of thousands who had tickets, mainly area residents:
“Not that the whole “most open and accessible convention in history” had a leg to stand on anyway, but now that claim is officially dead. The Democrats just yanked credentials from some 50,000-plus potential voters who had planned to cheer on President Obama’s acceptance speech in person Thursday night. …Thousands had volunteered for Obama’s campaign for hours, and thousands more stood in line for many hours, to secure a ticket to the stadium. Thanks for the effort, guys, but … never mind…
…It seems to be part of a pattern by the DNCC: Make big plans, then scale them back. First it was the Monday event at the Speedway being reeled in. Now this…
Republicans are speculating that organizers moved the event because they couldn’t fill the stadium and didn’t want the embarrassment of Obama talking to empty seats. Highly unlikely. Democratic officials say they gave out 65,000 credentials and had 19,000 more on a waiting list. They say they would have been turning people away, and there’s no evidence they wouldn’t have.
No, this isn’t about lack of Democratic enthusiasm. But given this treatment, it might soon be.”

Both sides have acted like children to call it any other way is unfair.
No, actually, it is not. When one side has repeatedly expressed a willingness to compromise, and the other has repeatedly and loudly expressed a refusal to compromise, it is downright silly and willfully wrong to pretend that they’re both equally at fault.
That simply makes no sense whatsoever.

Charlotte Observer – what a metaphor for the Obama administration
Not that the whole “most open and accessible convention in history” had a leg to stand on anyway, but now that claim is officially dead.
But given this treatment, it might soon be.

Same old same old: unless you go along with Obama, you’re not a “patriot.” Bill Clinton actually did move to the center after the 94 mid-terms and together he and the Republican Congress got a lot done in those six years (of course it was all Clinton if you get your information from this site.)
Obama wants to add another major entitlement when we already can’t afford the ones we have. He wants to raise taxes on the rich when the revenue generated doesn’t even begin to cover the cost of current spending, much less his proposed spending. Sorry, that’s not something to compromise over. When you are selling a home, you sometimes make a counter-offer when you receive an offer that is reasonable but low. But if you get a ridiculous offer, you just reject it.
If Obama is re-elected, I will be counting on the Republicans to thwart his plans. His policies are just too far away from what we need in my opinion.

He dropped his own, more aggressive plan that he had campaigned upon and adopted one created by, marketed by and even implemented by Republicans, but it got him nothing. Dropping the public option from the plan was another outreach to conservatives. Making the stimulus roughly one-third tax cuts was another. Proposing the Bowles-Simpson plan was another. The al-Anfal Campaign:
The worst human rights abuses of Hussein’s tenure took place during the genocidal al-Anfal Campaign (1986-1989), in which Hussein’s administration called for the extermination of every living thing–human or animal–in certain regions of the Kurdish north. All told, some 182,000 people–men, women, and children–were slaughtered, many through use of chemical weapons. The Halabja poison gas massacre of 1988 alone killed over 5,000 people.
I guess Jay Bookman is ok with this type of behavior in the world.

Republicans fought the stimulus plan and refused to compromise; now calling it a total waste. Some guy who they did not nominate for the presidency last time said the following in December 2008 in National Review:
“”"”"”"”"”"”"”That being said, a stimulus plan is needed without further delay, and there are some things that Republicans should insist on.The first is that tax cuts are part of the solution. Harvard professor and economist Greg Mankiw points out that recent research confirms that tax cuts have a greater multiplier effect than new spending — more economic bang for the federal buck. We should lower tax rates for middle-income families and eliminate their tax on savings altogether — no tax on interest, dividends or capital gains. Let’s also align our corporate tax rate with those of competing nations. These actions will rapidly expand consumption and investment, and right now, time is of the essence.
On the spending front, infrastructure projects should be a high priority. But because infrastructure projects involve engineering, environmental studies, permitting and contracting, they can take a long time to actually boost the economy. Spending to refurbish and modernize our military equipment is urgently needed, and it has a more immediate impact on the economy. A great deal of our armament was damaged or lost in the Middle East, and the rest is long overdue for maintenance.
We should also invest to free us from our dependence on foreign oil, not by playing venture capitalist, but by funding basic research in renewables, material science, combustion, nuclear reprocessing, and the like. “”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”"”
Guess who??????????????
One third of this writers stimulus plan would go to tax reduction to satisfy his party. did Obama’s stimulus plan compromise??
What part of the above dis the stimulus plan not contain? Not enough money for Halliburton, Carlysle Group and other GOP biggies?
Could it be that the gang of twenty congressmen ( including Mr. Ryan)who met on inauguration day taking a vow to obstruct all of Obama’s proposals ignored their current leaders recommendations in the National Review ?
Whose to blame for that?????????

Since 2008 when Obama was first elected, the Democrats have pursued a far left wing agenda, out of touch with what Americans want. The current incarnation of the DNC is far more left wing, far more radical and far more socialistic than anything from the 80’s or 90’s in the US. This behemoth had absolute majorities in 2008 and openly rejected any input from anyone as they jammed Dodd Frank ( seen any economic growth lately) and Obamacare down the throats of an unwilling electorate. Not to mention the utter intransigence of the democrats in the final years of the Bush Administration.
For Bookman to now complain is either breathtakingly ignorant or a willful lie. I am betting that Jay is not that ignorant and is instead propping up the standard lie from the democrats. It is a posture that is becoming more and more familiar to Jay and his media buddies as more and more lies are needed to support the chosen party.

I suspect the Obama, if he gets re-elected, will be more willing to compromise, and we will see more get accomplished. He won’t have the pressures of worrying about a second term.
Also, the GOP will not be determined to see him fail, and will be more likely to work with him. During this term the GOP has been willing to let the country go down the drain if it makes Obama look bad. McConnell of Kentucky’s main priority has been for Obama to fail and not get a second term, which meant, by necessity, seeing the country fail also. Obama can’t fail unless the country did and visa versa.
The GOP was and stll is willing to see the country fail in order to win the next election.

It’s really strange, Jay, for we know what works and what doesn’t. What doesn’t is Bush’s failed economic principles being offered (times 2) by Republicans this election. But what does is what has given us 29 straight months of growth and 4.4 million jobs added to the private sector, thank you Dems and President Obama.
I mean, if not for all the police, teachers, and firefighters Republicans fired the last few years, our unemployment rate would be down around 7 percent, and whose fault is this? I’m sure if they had tried a little, they could have found a way, especially if it meant keeping Americans employed until the economy’s roaring again.
Oh right, I forgot: They’re not trying to keep us employed. They’re trying to destroy our president in favor of even more tax cuts for their rich. God how I wish that created jobs, for we’d be swimming in them by now!

BTW, fact check on 4 million jobs.
However, CNN fact-checked that claim and found it to be “not the whole picture.” Instead, CNN found that there has been a net increase of just 300,000 nonfarm payroll jobs since Obama took office. And if you count government jobs, there are actually 400,000 fewer people working today than in January 2009.
When Democrats use the 4.5 million jobs number, they’re referring to jobs created after the economy bottomed out in January 2010, one year after Obama took office. That time frame excludes the worst job losses, which took place in 2009, and which many Democrats argue were the result of Bush policies.
CNN concludes: “The figure of 4.5 million jobs is accurate if you look at the most favorable period and category for the administration. But overall, there are still fewer people working now than when Obama took office at the height of the recession.”

Hmmm.. so the DNC took “God” out? Why I do believe the DNC’s platform regarding Faith provided: Faith has always been a central part of the American story, and it has been a driving force of progress and justice throughout our history. We know that our nation, our communities, and our lives are made vastly stronger and richer by faith and the countless acts of justice and mercy it inspires. Faithbased organizations will always be critical allies in meeting the challenges that face our nation and our world – from domestic and global poverty, to climate change and human trafficking. People of faith and religious organizations do amazing work in communities across this country and the world, and we believe in lifting up and valuing that good work, and finding ways to support it where possible. We believe in constitutionally sound, evidence-based partnerships with faith-based and other non-profit organizations to serve those in need and advance our shared interests. There is no conflict between supporting faith-based institutions and respecting our Constitution, and a full commitment to both principles is essential for the continued flourishing of both faith and country.
Is the problem that certain people don’t recognize a faith discussion that is broad based unless is includes God (and leaves out any other variation or faith)?

Whatever: BTW, fact check on 4 million jobs.
At least you didn’t trot out all the other ones that are obvious stretches. Well done.
To recap:
Of the so called “fact checking” lists, I found only ONE fact check to have any real merit: the 4.5 million jobs claim.
It is actually TRUE that women make 77% of what men do. The fact checkers would have us believe that this FACT isn’t real because not everyone who pays women less INTENDS to pay women less. That’s absurd.
It is TRUE that during Romney’s tenure as governor MA was 47th in job creation, but a focus on wordsmithing and semantics makes it somehow not true and intentionally makes Romney look better as a governor than he actually was (in his last year MA was 28th, let’s forget where he was before that).
FURTHER:
-Democrats say Romney will increase taxes on middle class families, based on a Tax Policy Center report that said it is one of his possible choices if he is to keep his impossible promise, but since Romney PROMISED that he wouldn’t do that, we take him at his word and Democrats are lying.
-”Gutting” Pell Grants, mentioned only once, we take Ryan at his word that he wouldn’t reduce the max amount even though he has also said he would leave it up to Congress to work out the details and THEN CBO could score it, but not before. We are also to believe that the word “gutting” when used by Democrats is different than the word “gutting” when used by Republicans to describe Medicare cuts and defense sequestering. What I’m trying to say is that the media fact checking on this particular thing seems like a reach based on their handling of similar statements from the Republican side, in which they basically agree that “gutting” is accurate for them, but not for Democrats.
-Romney’s government bailout – not speaking to it. Requires more research. But probably not worth much as a talking point and unlikely to remain as a major force anyway.
-$6,400, an accurate “up to” amount based on Ryan’s 2011 plan, which he and Romney SAY they have redone and have made “more generous.” No evidence exists to support their counter to this, and playing word semantics on whether or not we mean the current plan or Ryan’s last plan which is also basically the same as his 2010 plan seems like a deliberate “benefit of the doubt” argument again, leading us to believe that somehow, after two solid plans that show this exact figure, Ryan changed his mind and Romney/Ryan are totally with you all now.
-Democrats vs Republicans in historical references to racism and social issues – more semantics. Attempting to pick this one apart is an attempt to make it seem as though the Democratic Party of now is the KKK embracing party of old, while simultaneously giving the Republican party of now credit for ending slavery and a few votes on the Voting Rights Act. It blurs the line between conservative and liberal ideals. Liberals intend to include more people in voting and citizenry and conservatives, historically and some today, seek to exclude or diminish voting rights and citizenry.

The WSJ has an interesting article today interviewing several promenent Democratic leaders on what Obama should do if re-elected. I found the comments of Harold Ford, Jr to actually make a lot of sense. He suggested:
1)Embrace Simpson-Bowles as a template for long term defecit reduction and tax reform
2) Place a moratorium on new regulation. The business community is poised to dramatically expand with new technology but Washington is creating uncertainty through regulations.
3) establish a public-private infrastructure bank to tap private intellectual capital to combine with government taxpayer funds to create jobs and
The realistic chances of Obama taking advice from a member of his own party and accepting any sense of fiscal responsibility -ZERO. He didn’t even accept questions on the three college campuses he spoke to last week. I guess he is scared about that 50% unemployment stat for recent grads.
Obama has spent the past three years campaigning on a divisive message of tax the rich and business is evil. After watching him point fingers for the past 3 years, no one wants to work with him. His ego prevents him from ever working on bipartisan legislation. The truly sad part about all of this is that regardless of what the Dems say in Charlotte, the employment number Friday is going to be another disappointment. Apparantly, the Dems would rather focus on social issues than how to encourage growth in the economy. It has become painfully obvious that Obama doesn’t want to talk about the economy because he simply doesn’t know what to do.

One reason to re-elect Obama is that it will free the president from running for re-election and he can say some things that need to be said that leaders of neither of the major political parties have yet said.
One good reason to not elect Romney is that he will spend the next four years just as he has the last eight -running for re-election; however, if in office, he will have the power to select jurists for the US Supreme Court –bet they will be of the zealot or moneychanger variety in light of the odd “deal with the devil” that the current GOP is.

They can never win the bulk of moderate whites, not to mention women, Latinos, and other minorities with the right wing populated by the Todd Akins and Rick Santorums of the world. The neanderthal social views of the right scare the hell out of most of this country.

Willingness to compromise? REALLY? How about negotiating the spending cuts AND passing them THEN working on the revenue side? You see Jay, the GOP will not compromise on the revenue side of the equation because the spending is never cut. Heck, when the growth of a program is slowed, Democrats call those cuts.
If they really want to get serious about spending in Washington DC the first thing they will do is end baseline budgeting and make each and every department justify their expenditures. Both sides of the aisle would probably be surprised how much is cut just making that simple change. Then everything else needs to be on the table. Entitlements, defense, everything! If the GOP thinks they can cut over $1 trillion from the budget they are mistaken. If the Democrats think they can raise taxes on the so-called rich by over $1 trillion they are mistaken.
Look, both sides of the aisle know what needs to be done to get the country’s fiscal house in order. Their real problem is that they can’t figure out how to get re-elected once they do those things. Maybe it’s time for term limits?

Stevie Ray, ObamaCare was itself an outreach to conservatives. And each and every time all it got him was nothing.
+++++
Ok. He made the stimulus bill 1/3 tax cuts to get Republican votes but very few Republicans(3)voted for it. Think about it. Would you want this guy negioting for you?
Also, he did not drop the public option to reach out to Republicans. He droped the public option because Dems were getting hammered.
Also, the 1/3 figure is technically true but in reallity not. Tax cuts were more like 28% of the stimulus bill according to politfact.

The press acts as if the problem is on both sides. The Republicans put out outrageous lies and the press searches for a balance in lying by both sides not debating the merit of the subject lied about. “Willingness to compromise? REALLY? How about negotiating the spending cuts AND passing them THEN working on the revenue side? You see Jay, the GOP will not compromise on the revenue side of the equation because the spending is never cut. ”
Who did you borrow that concept from? It’s silly.
If one doesn’t think the cuts will come, or the revenue increases will come, if one has a bill to pass, all one need do is include both the cuts and the revenue changes.
But as we saw from Bowles-Simpson, Republicans will negotiate on cuts but not on revenue.
As far as the other, zero-based budgeting was tried during the Carter administration. It flopped. The administrative costs were astronomical.
“Look, both sides of the aisle know what needs to be done to get the country’s fiscal house in order. Their real problem is that they can’t figure out how to get re-elected once they do those things”
Are you saying Democrats can get reelected if the compromise on cuts but Republicans can’t if they compromise on revenue? Because that’s what we have and that’s the crux of the problem.

Jay,
Nancy Pelosi (just like Al Gore) is NOT the face of the democratic party that should be put forward if one wants compromise (or anything else.) Like the old Greek habit of “Killing the messenger” if he brought bad news from the front, Pelosi is held in much disdain by even moderates and independants. Unfortunately, the human factor does enter. I realize countless folks will post later, pointing out conservatives with likewise snotty personalities, etc. but we forget….the human factor, regardless of the rhetoric, does enter the fray. Pelosi is so snide and snotty she could offend somebody while presenting them with their winning lottery ticket. Point in case; she is not the one to put forward as a source, and NO it is not because she is a she! Its because she is Pelosi….’nuff said!

3 Republican Senators and no members of the Republicans House I believe.
Yet Sonny Perdue sent a letter to Obama asking for more stimulus dollars. Governor Perdue was representing every single Republican governor as head of the Republican Governor’s Association. Every single Republican governor signed the letter, including Rick Perry who would later campaign against it.
All but 3 Republican Congressmen voted against the stimulus yet every single Republican governor wanted more money. What was the goal of the Republican Congressmen?

Midori,
How many dozens of pieces of legislation have been passed by the House – only to go nowehere in the (led by Harry Reid) Senate ?
How long has it been since the (led by Harry Reid) Senate has passed a budget?
Wasn’t it the (led by Harry Reid) Senate that changed the rules in order to pass “ObamaCare” – against the wishes of the majority of the American public?
Wasn’t it Harry Reid (who leads the Senate) who said of the War in Iraq, “The war is lost. The Surge has failed.”)?
Or am I making those up?
Lets see if you can find anything wrong with those items other than a typo.

Corrupt, treasonous, administration; corrupt treasonous media: a little confirmation for ya from one who’s been there: “A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.” Cicero

If President Obama believes that Congress is going to be any more flexible during his second term, he is in for severe disappointment.
What I see is the likelihood of a Republican-controlled House and a Republican-controlled Senate. Even Real Clear Politics sees a 51-49 split in the Senate in favor of the Republicans—and that’s not even counting the Missouri seat, for which Akin is still ahead—and no one is projecting the likelihood of the Democrats’ regaining control of the House.
That’s a recipe for stalemate, with Republicans continually forwarding Republican budgets and bills to the Executive Branch and Obama vetoing them. And forget about filling those vacant seats in the judiciary. If the Republicans have been unwilling to confirm most of Obama’s nominees in the past four years, what makes anyone think they’ll change their spots in the next four years.
The next four years are likely to be a constant battle over health care legislation and tax cuts, with continual attempts to force changes in Social Security and Medicare, not to mention Medicaid. Congress has the purse and Obama has the veto pen. It ain’t lookin’ pretty.

What Barack is really saying is I did not compromise my first term because I knew that my radical leftist base would turn on me in the next election and that if you WHITE centrist people will just help re-elect me, there is nothing my base can do to me because after four more years I am done anyway. This is an admission from a gutless politician and incompetent leader. He had the first two years of his administration all to himself because his party controlled the House and the Senate and what did they do to create jobs? They bailed out GM and GM still owes the American taxpayers 30 billion dollars which will never be payed back. GM stock would have to go to $53.00 per share for us working taxpayers to even break even and where is GM stock right now? About $23.00. All Obama did his first term was spend taxpayer money and turn more and more people to entitlements, and America is much worse off for it. The big boned and towering Michelle Obama’s speech was tired and pathetic. She had the audacity to ask for people to support her husband to “move us forward”. In the last four years Obama has done nothing but move us backwards. Race relations are worse. The economy is much worse and our world standing is far, far weaker and Russia and China are laughing at us and cheering for Barack to be re-elected because they know weakness when they see it. What exactly was Michelle talking about when she says “moving forward”? I guess she means moving us forward into some kind of marxist/socialist nirvana she and her husband have created in their simplistic Chicago/Harvard trained minds.

You people just don’t get it, do you?
Bookman’s first paragraph reminds me of the Godfather movie where we heard the logic of intimidation, “I’ll have your signature on the contract or your brains all over it”. Unless Obama puts a gun to our head, why would we want to cooperate with him and you liberals? Look at his record. Are you people crazy?
Why would we want bigger government, government intrusion into our lives, huge taxes, unemployment of 8-12 percent, amnesty for illegal aliens, crippling debt, criminals running Treasury and the DOJ, bloated entitlement systems, a First Lady joy riding to free vacations, a Secretary of Defense joy riding to California every weekend, a former Speaker of the House joy riding everywhere in the world, a former chairman of the House & Ways Committee cheating on taxes, a Democrat Senate surreptitiously jamming legislation down America’s choking throat, and a inept president running our country into the ground? You people are crazy if you think that we need to be bi-partisan.
I must say that Bookman is right in his appraisal of the ill informed American public. They did vote for the Hope & Change idiot in the last election, but that was then. See you all at the polls.

From my perspective, Obama missed an opportunity with Simpson Bowles, it only needed a few more votes, but he either didn’t agree with the recommendations, or he couldn’t get it done. Shortly after that he set the tone for his presidency by ramming his healthcare legislation through. He once said one couldn’t govern with a 51% majority, yet he did anyway. Only he and his closest advisors know why. In my opinion, his actions then set the tone going forward, now he owns it and all he seems to do is complain.

Yes, half our country will reward the unpatriotic behavior of the gop with their votes. They will vote for a moderate that hides his taxes and details to his plans. The men who drew up the constitution made it so nothing could happen unless a majority of the house and a majority of the senate, and the president agreed, in which case the congress could overrule him with third’s vote.
Now its changed to require 60 votes in the senate instead of a majority.
But it’s still working as planned. ; Nothing happens unless there was agreement between congress and president, or if 2/3 of congress agreed with each other.
Don’t see a problem here. It’s working the way it was supposed to. Nothing changes until those agreements are made.

Really? You care? Then why do you give a free pass to the super rich raping American companies, closing them down and sending all the jobs to China? Obama didn’t do that, Romney did. The Koch brothers did and do. I paid 9% income tax last year, how about you?
I would vneture to guess my household income is at least 3 (if not 4) times yours, yet I only paid 9% income tax. What percentage did YOU pay?
While I love the cash, I’m not going to sit here and say it’s equitable or that I’m “paying my fair share” as opposed to those who pay their full 25-27% while making a fraction of what we do. That is becasue it’s NOT right. And I’m a small fry.
YOU are the one engaging in class warfare, you are sucking up to the “upper class” and toting thei mail for them. Of COURSE they want to continue to pay small percentages of their income in taxes. They are IMPORTANT, let the little people pay. Let them eat cake. I understand THEIR thinking, what I don’t understand is YOURS. Why do you allow them to screw you and all you do is say thank you?

I was being a bit sarcastic, in reference to those who get gov’t freebies supporting Pres Obama.
Actually, I know of no data that show those in the top n% are directly engaged in hiring people. Seems to me many make $$ off investments, or are top officers of corporations – and that does not mean, just because they’re filling the position, say of VP over IT services, that they are ‘creating jobs.” They may be making decisions that show they can make money if they expand and for that they need to hire people, but they aren’t creating those jobs.
I’ll venture the reason you haven’t heard about the class warfare stuff in the past is because it’s been done quietly, largely out of the public eye. Here’s what I mean by that.
You take a job with a $600K job. You (as a group) restructure the tax code to give preferential treatment to certain kinds of income, so you then get a comp package of $100K salary and the rest in options and stocks and other gimmicks, which drives taxes waaaaay down.
So along comes Pres Obama who says “y’know, things are out of whack. The top tier has advantages for making money and saving on taxes the middle class doesn’t. Let’s get things more in balance.”
And for that he’s accused of engaging in class warfare.

Pres. O has evidently forgotten that the last time a Democratic president won reelection, the Republicans were so outraged they demanded $46M in oppo paid for out of taxpayer funds, an impeachment trial, and several government shutdowns. It’s hard for the Rs to imagine how an election that doesn’t go their way can possibly be legitimate, and why would they want to cooperate with an illegitimate president? They don’t have any particular motivation to be productive at the people’s business because they are ideologically opposed to having government do anything for the people. In their eyes, government should work only to help Wall Street and the military.

Remember when President Obama extended the Bush tax cuts? What was the deal there? No don’t ask Rush or Neal or Sean, they know but they obviously have lied to you today when they were talking about it or else you would know.
Obama extended the Bush Tax cuts in order for the Republicans to extend the the unemployment benefits. It was a COMPROMISE.
See how easy that was?

Re: Ponnuru’s statement. I said months ago that I wished a kook like Santorum would get nominated by the GOP because he would get such a beat-down that the far-right wing of the GOP would be put in their place and a true conservative, small government GOP would return. Romney is likely to lose (when you have more Americans on the dole than ever before, they are going to vote for the EBT President) and the right wing whackos will claim it is because Romney was not conservative enough.
All I can say is that next spring is going to be a great time to be a FOM (friend of Michelle’s) because there are going to be some awesome globe-trotting excursions lined up. It might take every plane in the USAF and Delta Airlines to haul the entourage.

Ok Fred, I’ll play. If your income is 3 or 4 times what the average(like mine is), either you were successful in your business or inherited wealth. Perhaps you are college educated and it payed off for you, I am not one bit jealous of your success. good for you. that should be what this country is all about. I appauld your success but just because a person is wealthy does not make him a good person, especially if he has a habit of being crude and attempting to talk down to others!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So what has this to do with you spouting the talk radio bumper sticker lies? Or YOU a slackard? Did you sit around and cheat YOUR employer out of money because you were a loser?
Apparently you were because you call OTHER “high achievers.” I mean by saying that you are saying you didn’t work hard. You didn’t achieve. and I’M talking down to YOU? YOU are talking down to yourself. The amount of money you make pal is not a measure of your hard work. Mother Theresa lived a life of poverty, ye tI would call HER a high achiever. Your hero Neal Boortz makes a crap load of money since he sold out to the Republican party, I would merely call him an asshat. A hundred years from now, hell 10, who will be remembered? Neal? Or Mother Theresa.
At 60 years old, one would have thought you would be wiser. I don’t have a boot in your neck, Boortz does. He LOVES you toting the mail for him, keep it up he’s gonna give you……… nothing but disdain. He MAY sya thanks if you park his car but don’t count on it. He’s important and you are a peon. I however see you as a person. A DELUDED person, but a person nonetheless.

Yep, if the foo sh*Its, wear it.
The COMPROMISE that President Obama offered last Friday to Catholic leaders regarding the religious exemption for contraception coverage is not only a reasonable solution to the situation, it is also a political win for Obama.
Obama announced last Friday that he would make an “accommodation” to nonprofit religious-affiliated organizations such as hospitals and universities, permitting them to be exempt from the requirement in his health-care law that says contraception must be included in all health-insurance plans. Female employees could obtain it directly from the insurance companies, with no increase in their premium.

These old white men want war. They want to orchestrate chaos, death on a massive scale, endless rivers of blood. Every 30-50 years this social pathology of conquest and destruction erupts in war on a massive scale.
No rational being can stand up against the tide of unreason that is overtaking the U.S. It won’t stop until we wage war against Arab countries and China and reinstate the draft to do so.
Obama’s flaw is that he is a rational being. He tries to reason with men who are beyond reason and possessed by blood lust. They don’t hear him. All they hear is the siren song of war and death.

Something tells me that the buses that they sent to every hamlet in NC were not successful in bringing back enough people to hear the Annointed One speak. Me too F. Sinkwich, Willie is very popular, new Gallup has his favorability rating at 69%, an all time high for Clinton, he will help Obama get a bump in the polls.
George W Bush wasn’t allowed to speak at the Republican convention. Imagine if he did? Romney’s negative Gallup convention bump would’ve been worse. Btw, is it still called a bump when you lose support during a convention? Is the correct term dump?

Where did you get your info? Rush’s blog???
Andre Sayegh, a Paterson councilman, is literally lobbying, sitting in the lobby of a hotel here, making calls, talking to fellow conventioneers, trying to find a way to get to see President Obama on Thursday night. He is one of more than 60,000 who won’t get to see the president because his planned open-air appearance has been moved inside.
“I drove 10 hours to see him,” says Sayegh, whose wife Farhanna is a delegate and will get to see Obama’s acceptance speech. It was moved inside the Time Warner Cable Arena because of forecasts of severe thunderstorms.

Jamvet@6:22 – I am not a registered Republican, I am an Independent. Open to best choices from either party. I like Bill Clinton and John Kennedy and Reagan and Bush. I started liking Bush when he stood up at the site of 9-11 and stated we will get those responsible for that. I think his approval rating was about 95% that day. I was proud for him to be the POTUS that day. I almost re-enlisted but quicky came to my senses understanding my age.

12, I don’t write of it very often (for obvious reasons) but when I got to boot camp in San Antonio in October of 1972, I was the only guy picked out of my flight of 55 men to go to Colorado Springs. (I watched a movie (LOL!) about the USAFA and had to make a decision on the spot.) I was only 17 and I declined, and have agonized over that decision for forty years. But overall, I still think that it was the right choice for me.
Sure, I could have retired long ago, probably as a full bird colonel or higher, but I could also be dead in the sands of Iran. Who the hell knows, how things are gonna turn out?!

__________
Not even those in the same party agree. Just ask the Speaker of the House about the tea party that came to the house in 2010. The right wing has kept him awake at night, and forced him to recant of some of the agreements he had made with the President.

Democrats have changed their convention platform to add a mention of God and declare that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel.
The move came after criticism from Republicans.

When asked recently in a PBS interview what her mail goal was going to be in the second term, she stated, “We are going to take a good look at what foods are selling in grocery stores”. Does that mean that we are going have food police at the checkout line? Once again, it is none of this chicks business what I or anyone else buys at the grocery store. It is none of the government’s business what I buy, what I prefer or what I do not buy, as long as I am not breaking any laws. I have never bought a 32 ounce diet coke either but it is none of Mayor Doomberg’s business what I buy. If I want to smoke a cigar, walk in the rain, proposition a willing partner at a party it is no one’s business but mine, and, certainly not Michelle’s. Funny how Dem/Libs can dig in on things all they want, but it is always the Pub/Cons who are intransigent. Harry Reid’s Senate hasn’t passed a budget in three years because the Pub/Cons won’t do what he wants. Is it him who is instransigent or the Pub/Cons? And Reid and Pelosi brought a quick end to that Hopey-Changey thing when they twisted every arm, and more body parts than that, and held endless closed door meetings, made any and every dirty, slimey, back room deal that they could make to pass Obamacare, and also by using a procdural path never used to pass legislation as far reaching and expensive as that was — to avoid a vote with the “Kennedy Seat” now warmed by the wrong bottom — So that makes them great Dem/Lib compromising statesmen and women? While the Pub/Cons, who listened to 70% of the electorate against it, and tried to stop it are, instransigent?
I don’t know who is going to win this dead heat for president, but I am not going to be my ranch that the Dem/Libs running the Senate and working in the House are going to show the Pub/Cons how it’s done (real statesmanship, that is) if Mitt wins. In fact, the Dem/Libs will dig in and fight Romney and the Senate tooth and nail. And I think there is a very good chance of seeing “Taxmageddon” out of this lame duck Congress when it returns after the election, no matter who wins. So either guy may have the job of dealing with a second great recession before the first one has ended. But, of course, it will all be the fault of the always intransigent, as opposed to the always statesmanlike Dem/Libs.

I also had my qualms about his tepid “support” of gay rights. His record in his first administration on those counts have allayed my hesitancy. I have no idea what Iran has or doesn’t have. Of course their are conflicting reports from within Israel as well as the US.
While it might make for a good PR sales point for Mr Members Only jacket and the mullahs to talk big about Israel, imo I think it is mostly a bluff. They like LIVING. Believe me. I haven’t read where too many of the top mullahs and clerics carried suicide bombings.

There certainly is truth to what you are saying, however I highly doubt that the vast majority of those attending Baptist churches are affiliated or sympathizing with the KKK or anything close to it.
It has been sometime now, but the one’s I attended growing up didn’t fit that description you give them.
Are there some like that who attend Baptist churches? I’m sure there are, but by and large that isn’t who they are today.
There are certainly some social issues where they are stuck in the 1600s, but most have moved or are moving past racial issues of that magnitude.

You’re allowing your prejudices to color your opinions. The Southern Baptist CHURCH did no such thing. In a territory where the KKK is active and the majority of the population is at least titularly Southern Baptist, of course it would stand to reason that there would be a proportionate representation of that category. In the Midwest of the 1920s and 1930s when the KKK had millions of members, you could make the same argument that it was Lutherans or Methodists. Go back and look at the results from the Al Smith candidacy…precisely those states with the highest Baptist populations were the ones he carried. Thus, Baptists are “fed into” the Papiocracy…

Democrats Change Platform to Add God, Jerusalem
FLIP, meet FLOP
Tonight, the Democratic National Committee suspended the rules of the convention and inserted language regarding God and the State of Israel back to its platform. They had to vote three times to do it – and they had to lie to deem it passed, even though it was clear that the measure did not pass a voice vote in the chamber. The original 2012 Democratic Party platform had excised all mention of God and Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel.
Means, I justify thee. Ends
There were widespread boos in the convention hall to the renewed inclusion of God and language about Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

If only Redneck Convert was here, he could help us make sense of all of this.
Tonight’s Wednesday. Why, I’ll bet he’s down to the Church of Holiness listening to the Rev. Postlewaite rail against contraception and gays and “illegals.” What do you think!
Well, tonight the topic was the evils of birth control. The Rev. Postlewaite told us all there was a easy way to keep women from having kids and we all knew what it was. It sure escaped me, unless . . . naw, he wouldn’t be saying we shouldn’t . . . naw . . .
Anyhow, he let us go a half a hour early tonight. Said he wasn’t feeling too good. I looked at Jim Earl and we both knew what was bothering him. He didn’t want to miss any of the Giants-Cowboys game.
As for making sense of things for folks, I got to admit I ain’t made sense of much of anything ever since I found out as a kid that women had to set down to pee. So you’re kinda SOL there, Sooth.
Anyhow, I got to get my case of PBR out of the Fridgidaire and some pork rinds from the kitchen cabinet. I have to keep them there so old Ace won’t get into them. Just 3 minutes till the game comes on. Have a good night everybody.

The Ku Klux Klan, LLC. has been around a good long while, it was legally incorporated as a Limited Liability Corporation in the State of Arkansas in 2003. This historic accomplishment was made possible by deciding to stop following the lead of so many others who were accomplishing little if anything for White Christian America. We realized several important things:
1. There is no more time for foolishness America is in a desperate hour, our National sovereignty is at risk, the future of our children is at risk. No fraternal club, or violent gang has any real chance to make positive change.
2. The struggle will not be won with mob violence in the streets. We cannot persuade our white Christian brethren by standing on courthouse steps screaming racial epithets.
3. The struggle will be met in the courts and legislatures of our nation and this is where we must concentrate our efforts if we hope to accomplish positive change. To do so we must meet our detractors on a level playing field, we must have the same recognition as those groups we are in opposition to.
4. We must hire our own lawyers, accountants and other professionals. We must not depend on ACLU to represent our views. We must be legally recognized as the voice of White Christian America. This will cost more money, this will take more time, work and sacrifice but, it is the ONLY way we can succeed.
5. We must prove our case before the world openly, it is to these ends we strive.
What makes us better?
First we are not concerned with attacks on the many klan-styled clubs and organizations whether incorporated or not, we make no claim against any. We will state our qualification and willingness to work. We leave the choice to the public, they will decide if we are worthy of their support. They will decide based on what we say and what we do; even more they will decide by how, we accomplish our agenda. We simply state our qualifications and allow you to decide. With all this we have neither need or time to rundown other Klan type organizations, their leaders or members; such as do are likely “agent provocateurs” seeking to sew doubt and suspicion among our people.
If we thought for a moment, any other organization had a better agenda and any chance of success we assure you that is where we would be and who we would support unstintingly.
We believe in accountability especially in financial matters, our books are audited annually by an out side auditor, a firm with no ties to this organization. We pay both State and Federal taxes on any profits realized. We are NOT a non-profit therefore we are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act as all non-profits are.
The Ku Klux Klan, LLC. has a credit rating, we pay our bills. We are a legitimate business in every way. We have a real agenda, one not based on mindless hatred or anti-government rhetoric. We denounce violence as an acceptable means of accomplishing our agenda in every instance. We do not have members in prisons or jails, we cannot help our Nation or people from behind bars!
Most forms of public protest give our detractors evidence of a hateful motivation and engender sympathy for the opposition, ” see the bad Klan is picking on the poor black man”. We will not give the propagandist press more fodder for its campaign against white Christian America. We must work smarter. Most public rallies only give the media footage to over-voice or use out of context propagating fear, making those we need to reach afraid to listen to our message or even ask a question and when this happens the enemies of America win the psychological battle. Why should we aid them by doing what they expect and need? Again we must think smarter, this requires leadership, an agenda that makes sense and true patriots willing to stand up for our history, heritage and culture.
We know with certainty, the issues that face our Nation will not be settled by mobs in the streets. We know we cannot hope to accomplish a positive agenda standing on some courthouse steps screaming racial epithets, marching down streets or protesting even in the most peaceable demeanor. We know these issues must and will be decided inside the courts and legislatures of our land, this is the battle field on which we must engage. We must have and deserve the recognition necessary to file briefs before the courts. We must have the grass roots voting support that gets the attention of our law makers. This is accomplished by, being a legal law abiding entity with a reputation for paying our taxes and paying our bills. We must continue to build a grass roots constituency of voters until we can persuade legislators that we do indeed represent the voice of White Christian America and that our voice must be heard and recognized as legitimate.
This is a realistic agenda and we must be about it. We need not worry or concern ourselves with others or what they may claim to be doing, if they do well God be praised, if they fail, ( and most do) we must work all the harder to prove our case. What is essential is that IF we remain firm in our commitment, we have the ONLY certain chance to save our Nation and people.

The debt has increased approximately $5.4 trillion since President Obama took office on January 20, 2009.
===
Food-stamp use reached a record 46.7 million people in June, the government said, as Democrats prepare to nominate President Barack Obama for a second term with the economy as a chief issue in the campaign.
====
Barack Obama approaches his nomination for a second term with the lowest pre-convention personal popularity of an incumbent president in ABC News/Washington Post polls since the 1980s. He’s also at his lowest of the year among registered voters, with trouble among women.
Just 47 percent of registered voters in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll see Obama favorably overall, down 7 percentage points from his recent peak in April, while 49 percent rate him unfavorably. He’s numerically underwater in this group for the first time since February.

Glad you asked. Here’s the “proof”:
1) Chris Matthews Says “Chicago” Is Super-Secret GOP Racist Codeword
NYTimes: “McCain ad that likened Obama’s celebrity status to lightweight celebrities like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, Obama suggested three times on Wednesday that the McCain campaign was trying to scare voters with racial appeals.”
2) Actor Morgan Freeman calls tea party racist for its anger at President Barack Obama
3) John Rich Calls Clay Aiken’s GOP Tweet “Racist”
4) Wikipedia entry calls Mia Love ‘dirty, worthless whore’ and ‘House N****r’
5) MSNBC Panel Agrees: Republican’s Employ Racist Code To Mobilize ‘White Redemption 2.0′
6) Daily Beast’s Tomasky Calls 2012 RNC Convention Racist
7) Kansas City Star editorial columnist Lewis Diuguid wrote that by the GOP branding Obama a socialist claimed using the word was “an old code word for black.”
9) Democratic congressman from Georgia John Lewis drew a rhetorical line connecting McCain to the white segregationist Alabama governor George Wallace and, through Wallace, to the 1963 church bombing in Birmingham that killed four girls.
10) The Associated Press claimed, “Even mentioning the association with Ayers, as Sarah Palin did in a speech earlier in the week, signifies a hidden ‘racial tinge’.”
And so on AD INFINITUM. Unfortunately, I don’t have a “decoder ring” so I am unable to discern all of this hidden racism on the part of the GOP.
What ever happened to someone falsely claiming another did something wrong (like a woman falsely accusing a man of rape) and then paying the consequences?

Obama and is overwhelming majorities in both the house and senate must bear the responsiblliity for the disaster that was Obama’s first two years in office. He chose other priorities while jobs stayed on the back burner. I don’t understand why the media portrays either presidential candidate as someone who creates jobs. The president does not create jobs. He doesn’t even write the bills that go through Congress. Shouldn’t we be holding our “elected representatives” responsible for the recession? All spending starts in the House of Representatives. Shouldn’t we be looking at Georgia’s representatives in congress and replacing them for blowing up the budget? Make all congressional representatives State Employees with state pay and state benefits and start lowering the federal deficit – may only be by .001 percent, but it’s a start and puts these goobers back in touch with their constituents. Why should they escape any pains from the recession they brought on us?It’s an afront to all of us that no matter how poorly they perform, they still receive free health care and a salary of over $160,000.
