I agree with your assessment but after the rhetoric of both conventions fades into memory (most have attention span of a gnat when it comes to politics) we will go back to whether the individual is better off today and who competes more favorably in a Jerry Springer stage.

Yes, the idea that we have, and have shown the world that we have made historic favorable movement with our diversity and war on racism…I’m very concerned however that the DEMS spent most of their pre-convention rhetoric on how bad things are and will be for the middle class and minorities and the race card is beginning to be more common place..

Well, given that some on the far right want to return us to the limited government of the Articles of Confederation, you’re right, the choice is very clear. History told us how the Articles of Confederation turned out, and it wasn’t pretty. We don’t want that again. The Constitution suits us quite nicely. No need to water it down any more than has already been done under the guise of limited government.

I try to take my opinions on subjects by looking at it from both sides and am doing the same as i write this comment. I do agree with you when you say some conservatives see Obama as “un-american” but i do sincerely believe that the Republican Convention this year was based on a general disagreement on Obama as a policymaker, not a human being. I’d have to say from a policy-aside perspective that Obama is definetly the more likeable guy. However, i believe that there is nothing wrong with bringing up disagreements on his policies and his motives in where he wants to take this country. You dont have to believe them but thats the beauty of America; you have the freedom to believe what you want. This is the same as people voting for Obama just because he is black and not even looking to his policies.
As for people calling Obama “un-american” and bashing him through the media, can’t the same be said for Romney? The whole Obama campaign this year seems to be attacking and throwing mud on Romney’s name rather than attacking the main issues of the economy. I long for the day that reports both sides objectively rather than just pushing forward a higher agenda. I look forward to what you respond to this if you do have the time to respond.

Too bad the unemployment is up despite claims of all these jobs which have no valid evidence to support. Secondly, the healthcare bill as is will be the bain of our existence and needs to be re-thought…a single payor system is, despite the negative impact on my business, a more feasible alternative….the current plan will leave almost as many without insurance and allows the insurers to use adverse selection as a reason to double rates for those not subsidized.

I agree with gay issue athough I think they comprise less than 1-2% of the population. I also agree with GOP obstruction but are you suggesting the DEMs won’t do the same thing if GOP wins WH?

we are seeing projected insurer rates climb, by some estimates, by 50-75% over the next few years as more of this erroneous bill takes hold…

The projections won’t happen the way you think. It’s not the law’s fault that drugs are priced higher here than anywhere else in the world and that we consume more of them than anyone else. Even without the law, insurance rates were climbing too fast… but now insurance companies must spend a minimum percentage (85?) on medical care instead of on salaries and overhead and that’s a really really great thing to hold costs down.

Right now, we’re seeing 10% per year. So unless your “few years” means 5-7 years….

I think hospitals would buy into single-payer, just because that way they know they would always get paid.

Insurance companies would freak, especially the smaller ones that aren’t competitive. But I think a single-payer of basic coverage and insurance companies to augment is the best results. But for too many morons, that would be “socialism”.

I advise on insurer rate setting and I can tell you that 10% is a myth…adverse selection will cost us trillions over time…

Actually, we’re forcing people into the system who were healthy and going “naked” on coverage, so that offsets the pre-existing conditions issue. And hospitals were losing money serving those people, so the cost was already being paid somewhere in the current process.

There is zero chance the healthy will offset unhealthy….that’s actuarial fact. Here’s the problem. Anytime one obtains healthcare coverage for the first time, they have thru the roof utilization rates. In addition, the pre-existing (which is a good thing but not to be confused with insurance) will eclipse the “healthy’ folks in geometric proportions. Too may newly insured will have $800,000 preexisting conditions (diabetes, heart disease, obesity etceters) that a 12k premium will not offset….

The biggest immediate issue is that we have a scary shortage of doctors, particularly primary care and nurses, to accomodate new demand….and that number is getting worse not better….

Make your voice heard, and your vote count, in continuing the egalitarian ideals, upon which this nation was originally dedicated and upon which it was rededicated 150 years ago, into posterity.

The fact that both parties get piles of money from the same pools indicates that the outcome is known before the debate….at that time, GOP was the sand throwing child likely suggesting to it’s cash source that they would produce a more lucrative outcome for insurers and the like…they simply obstructed leglislation..much like the DEMs will do if they lose WH..we get the shaft either way..

Every time a negative comment is made about the President you always get “prove it” or “how so”? All I can go by my friends is my own personal experiance in the area I live in and what my friends and relatives are experianceing. I have a nephew (a college grad) that was laid off from his job 2 and 1/2 years ago. His roomate was laid off over 1 year ago. Both have been doing resumes and job applications daily. As of today 9-5 neither have found work. I have a son who has always done construction work. Can drive heavy equipment, No construction is going on. Been doing odd jobs for over a year. Can’t find anything steady. Which brings me to a policy decision made during the Bush administration by Mr. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. Both Democrats, They both pushed strongly for the mortage people to accept loan applications from people who had negative credit. They meant well, however most of these new homeowners never made one house payment. Mr. Frank and Mr. Dodd believed everyone should own a home. As a result of that thousands of home loans went under. And Fanny May, and Freddy Mac, went BROKE. And guess who’s left holding the bag? YOU AND ME. And yes G. “cowboy” Bush went along with it too.. I’m no fan of his. I stated in a comment last week I thought Romney would be better choce in this election. Then I get HOW SO? He’s a business man, been very sucessful, his running mate has a degree in economics. Yea, he’s a rich man, so was F.D.R. so was J.F.K. Hell they’re all rich. Both parties.Then you hear Romney is Morman, what will the morman church tell him to do? Most don’t remember when J.F. K. was running. I do. Then it was “He’s a Catholic” “whatever that POPE tells him to do He’s gonna do”. I voted for J.F.K.. And still beleive he would have been a great president if he’d have lived longer. I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat. Democrat or Republican we better wise up and vote for the best educated, experianced, person. Forget race, gender, party, how nice looking they are. Mr. Obama is clean cut, has a beautiful wife and children. Makes a great speech. But thats it. I’m going for Romney.

Wisconsin — this reminds me of (dare i say it?) the year the Packers hired Ray Rhoades to take over as head coach. He lasted exactly one year before they fired him. Was his win/loss ratio worse than the person before him? Nope. Was his win/loss ration worse than the person AFTER him? Nope.

IMO I think they wanted Ray to turn the Packers around in one year — for some reason there are people in the U.S. who expect a black person to come in and make an IMMEDIATE change/improvement. If that doesn’t happen, then they are obviously UNFIT or unqualified for the job.

The cons always want to talk about business acumen. What president, VP, etc. of a company could come in and make an immediate impact in a company that’s been floundering for years? It took IBM 10 years to get back its prominence and Apple about the same amount of time too. It took Coke at least 5 years to regain it’s share of the market; but Obama, a black/white man (for you cons, you know you love it!); is supposed to do something that even Warren Buffet could not have done in the allotted time that cons have given.

I agree with the general interpretation of the significance of Obama’s election and his life story, but I completely disagree with this interpretation of the “mainstream”. What has radically changed the mainstream is the rise of the Tea Party, its complete stranglehold over one of the two major parties, and the fact that the other party currently has no will or ability to really counter the agenda, not to mention the radical tactics, of this radicalized GOP. Therefore the entire political ’spectrum’ gets dragged to the right, ‘mainstream’ and all.

Another 2.6 million people slipped into poverty in the United States last year, the U.S. Census Bureau recently reported, and the number of Americans living below the official poverty line, 46.2 million people, was the highest number in the 52 years the bureau has been publishing figures on it. Given his background, Romney IS the perfect man to over see the completion of the destruction of America. He can have us down to a nation of serf farmers tilling foreign owed land that used to be American owned in record time. He won;t need 2 terms, he’ll fire sell America in one.

@ FLOTUS I expect to see progress. I don’t expect to see more unemployed now than when he took office, $2 more for a gallon of gas, personal income drop by $4K and unbelievable budget deficits. You say it takes longer than 4 years but let’s use Obama’s own measuring stick. He vowed to cut the deficit in half and instead he tripled it. He said himself that this would be a ‘one term proposition’ if he failed to improve the economy. Well he failed. I think I’ll take his advice about that one term thingy.

At the top of their lungs.

Matti – you hit the nail on the head with your comment about what the Republicans are doing in Georgia. And Grasshopper, my thought is that this presidential election really doesn’t matter – every incumbent in either the House of Senate (even if they are good) should NOT be re-elected, and in 2 more years, we vote out the rest of them. If it takes 2 elections to get the attention of people serving in those elected bodies, so be it. The past four years has been the most devisive, road-blocking, do anything to get back (or retain) the White House that I have ever observed (and I’m old enough to have actually seen a lot of them). Both parties need to start representing their actual constituents, not working on the next campaign. They don’t work much at all anyhow. We need to hold the feet of Congress to the fire on having actual, helpful dialog and getting something accomplished that might actually solve some of our problems in a practical, if not perfect, way.

We could have had jobs by now, lowered the deficit, and balanced the budget, if only The GOP had honestly worked for the People instead of passing multiple anti abortion resolutions that aren’t worth the paper they are written on.

But this is why I say there are only two kinds of Republicans, the Rich and the Duped…and the Duped are mostly because of self inflected wounds.

The above statement is taken from the data you gave. Anyone who will look at truth knows that that loss of public sector jobs has been a direct result of Republican ideology. The stimulus money, authorized by Obama, acutally helped to sustain many teachers and other state workers in their jobs, when Republican-dominated state legislatures have been intent on laying off these “government” workers to “starve the beast of government” as part of their ideological agenda. Some analysts have even speculated that – if these state workers had not been laid off by Republican ideologues – that the current unemployment rate for the nation would be close to 7.2% presently. Furthermore, because Obama single-handedly decided to help save GM, those auto workers were able to keep their jobs and GM now turns a profit.

Tell that to some conscientious black male about 28 without a HS education who is trying to find a job. Tell that to all of those who file for unemployment compensation every month which will soon run out for most of them. I am sure that this outrage is very real for them. For all of this concern, those in the WH don’t seem to let that interfere with Hawaii vacations, fancy wardrobes and spending the taxpayer dime on themselves. Tell me how Michelle’s 7500 dollar jacket identifies her with the little guy.

A 28 year old without a HS diploma, regardless of race or gender, would have a difficult time finding a job period seeing as how manufacturing jobs began leaving the US long ago. Not sure why you had to mention race.

I think Republicans can sense what is happening. Last night was the turning point in the election.

After the very weak Republican convention that didn’t even produce a Romney bump, the Democrats came out swinging and produced a first inning home run. Tonight it is Bill Clinton’s turn. After Clinton’s speech we could be looking at a run rule. As I remember Clinton has been known to give to a good speech. Thursday when President Obama speaks the fat lady will have already sung, (and no Jm I don’t mean Michelle.) As in turn out the lights, the Republican Party is over.

President Obama’s budget suffered a second embarrassing defeat Wednesday, when senators voted 99-0 to reject it.

Coupled with the House’s rejection in March, 414-0, that means Mr. Obama’s budget has failed to win a single vote in support this year.
