The folks at Gallup have completed their post-GOP convention polling duties, and the reviews are not complimentary. Mitt Romney has enjoyed little or no post-convention bump, and his acceptance speech was rated excellent or good by just 38 percent of those who saw it.
While that may not sound terrible, Gallup reports that it is easily the worst rating given to any of the last eight convention acceptance speeches.

A Reuters-Ipsos poll also reports no sustained bump for Romney, and puts the race at essentially tied headed into the DNC convention in Charlotte.
“Ipsos pollster Julia Clark said she was confident Obama’s numbers would improve during his convention.
“The fact that Obama and Romney are still tied signals to me that we’re not going to see any sort of sustained bump for Romney,” Clark said. “As we go into next week’s convention, Romney will struggle to maintain even footing with the president – we’ll likely see a shift back towards Obama.”
While each candidate won overwhelming support from voters in his own political party, Romney was leading Obama among all-important independent voters by 33 percent to 28 percent, the poll found.”
Rasmussen reports what it calls a “modest” bounce for Romney, whom it has leading 48-to-44 percent.

(The guy irrationally denigrates honorable veterans. You figure it out!)
Oh! Another reason why the fake cons loathe President Carter so much! He came from a progressive family that didn’t hate black people like most southern white conservatives, then and now, do.
His mother, Bessie Lillian Gordy, was a registered nurse who in the 1920s had crossed racial divides to counsel black women on health care issues.
Despite this pervasive segregation, two of Carter’s closest childhood friends were African American, as were two of the most influential adults in his life, his nanny Annie Mae Hollis and his father’s worker Jack Clark.
And Oscar, you are correct about their financial status. Mea culpa…

DDR,
Good point. I’m also confused by how my Congressman blathered on for years about how it’s not government’s job to create jobs; it’s the private sector’s job to do that. But then election year rolls around and he’s blaming the President for the unemployment rate. Never mind that he was one of the “We’re gonna focus on jobs jobs jobs” congressmen who then focused obsessively on uteri and vajayjays instead.
Trying to connect the dots: Big business is enjoying record profits, but nobody is hiring, and it’s the President’s fault Congress and Republican legislatures are obsessed with private lady parts? That’s one big sribbledy mess!

Going to take a few days off from work and go home to Mom’s and stay with her, see my nieces, and play with my brother’s 2 lab puppies. Was sweetness a dog or cat. Sounded almost like a human that you were talking about. Speaking of your diet plan that was one of the things I thought about this weekend when I was reflecting on myself. It made me reflect on all the pain and suffering there is in the world and my little part in promoting by the way I’ve treated many people on here. And I did get to know that gut wrenching hunger yesterday. I didn’t eat anything cause I just felt so sick over Marley’s passing. Barely ate anything earlier today. Tonight I actually sucked it up and finished a meal.
Jm,
Yeah. I drank a boatload Sat night after it happened.. It was the only thing that would get me to a few hours of sleep. I drank all day Sunday also trying to cope with it. I drank a 36 pack and an 18 pack in those 2 days. Still didn’t help. Didn’t drink at all today. Being hung over and hungry and dehydrated on top of just being sad was enough to sober me up for the day.

When Obama took office Democrats held:
• 58 Senate seats. It is 51 now (plus two independents who align mostly with the Democrats).
• 257 seats in the House of Representatives. It is 190 now (there are also three vacancies for seats last held by Democrats).
• 29 of the 50 governorships. It is 20 now.
• 4,073 state legislative seats. It is 3,319 now.

I went shopping this weekend for a new bike. I went to a large sporting goods store. They had a lot of bikes but none of them were accessible. I needed a sales person to help me. I looked around but there were no sales people around. As I was leaving the store I saw a few sales people hanging around the exit. They were probably there to make sure that no one was stealing anything.
I went to a big box store whose logo looks like a big red Target. They had a few bikes. I asked the sales guy if I could test drive a bike. He said no, that’s not allowed. I went to another big box store whose logo looks like a big red Target. There were a lot of employees on the sales floor but they were really busy rearranging the shelves and moving merchandise around. I asked a sales guy to help me. He broke away from his moving tasks and helped me access a couple of bikes. He allowed me to test drive the bike in the bike aisle. I decided to buy the bike but I wanted someone to check out the bike before purchasing it. I found the sales guy but he explained that he was on break and I would have to wait for him to finish his break if I wanted him to check out the bike. I decided to just fix the 15 year old bike that I own.
I said all of this to make the point that Obama is not to blame for a sluggish economy. This is not the first time that I have gone into a retail store and couldn’t find anyone that had the interest, the ability or the knowledge to sell me something that I really wanted to buy.

I’m not surprised. The employees in the private sector know they are getting hosed, and their attitude towards their company, direct supervisor and job reflects that.
In the past year or so, I have noticed that those in the public sector — those govt. employees that were the butt of so many jokes for the past generation — are courteous, efficient, and happy to have their jobs.

Lying again.
The rest of (actually the beginning) the story.
Presidential campaigns are supposed to be the greatest show in American politics — infused with big ideas and historical import. Yet after 16 months enduring a Republican primary and then a two-man contest so far defined by gaffes, cynicism, knife fights, and rapid-fire news cycles, even the best political reporters want the whole thing over with.
Both campaigns, sport.

Sure doesn’t sound very efficient ……………………….
ABC News:
“Only days after Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel asked for federal agents and U.S. Marshals to help combat the city’s wave of violence, about 50 Chicago police officers have arrived in Charlotte to work perimeter security details for a week at the Democratic National Convention.
The Chicago officers, in their distinctive uniforms and checkerboard-brimmed hats, said they had been instructed not to talk with reporters about their out-of-town assignment.
“I would love to know the logic behind that decision to send them there given all that is happening here in Chicago,” the Rev. Ira Acree of the Greater St. John Bible Church in Chicago told ABC News Monday.
Chicago police union officials also questioned the use of officers in Charlotte.
“We had two homicides and dozens of shootings this weekend, and we’re sending offices out of the city?” said Pat Camden, a spokesperson for the Chicago Fraternal Order of Police. “I think the average person would shake his head over that.”

The “are you better off” question may have been an indictment of Jimmy Carter, but Republican hopes notwithstanding, 2012 isn’t 1980. The economy isn’t as bad, the world isn’t as unstable, and — most importantly —vthe public has a clear memory of four years ago, when Obama took office in the worst economic environment since the Great Depression. As Greg points out, voters seem to be grading Obama on a curve — how good are things relative to the Great Recession? By that measure, the country is better off, even if individuals are in a tougher spot than they were at the beginning of his term.
“Are you better off” isn’t the right way to evaluate this election, but that doesn’t mean the Obama campaign shouldn’t try to tackle it. After all, the facts are on their side. In the three months before Obama took office, the economic growth plunged. On Inauguration Day 2009, the economy had lost nearly 4 million jobs and was still hemorraging at an unprecedented rate.
With roughly 150,000 new jobs per month and GDP growth of 1.7 percent, there’s no question that we’re better off today than when Obama took office. It’s true that current conditions are on the bad side of mediocre. But that’s just a sign of how terrible things were four years ago. Voters aren’t sure that the recovery has been fast enough, and that’s why they are hesitating before granting Obama a second term. But it’s not enough for Romney to tell voters that their disappointment alone should lead them to fire the president. Romney has to show them that he could have made things better — and that he will make things better. Without that, the “are you better off” question may not be enough.

Sure we are better off than we were 4 years ago.
We are 4 years closer to seeing Dick Cheney`s worldly exit.

Do wooden stakes work on plutonium hearts? I know a cross would not have any effect on “the evil one”.

Do you have a monkey wrench I can borrow?

Charles Moncky story
The following story can be found in sundry publications from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries:
That handy tool, the “monkey-wrench”, is not so named because it is a handy thing to monkey with, or for any kindred reason. “Monkey” is not its name at all, but “Moncky.” Charles Moncky, the inventor of it, sold his patent for $2000, and invested the money in a house in Williamsburg, Kings County, where he now lives.[7][8]
However, this was refuted by historical and patent research in the late nineteenth century.[2]

Skydog .. .. We serve a bit of everything. I know someone here advised that you shouldn’t attempt it. But it sounds as if you are interested in a bar-type place. Live music/drinking … … that’s a different type of place. I’ve never done anything like that. But, if they’re coming for the music and drinks, the food part should be easy.
