Romney did just fine, but a game-changer? No

Meh.

Mitt Romney did a competent job of presenting himself as a competent candidate Thursday night. He humanized himself, presenting a side of himself that most Americans had not seen, and he competently delivered the standard conservative critique of the perceived shortcomings of Barack Obama in largely positive, unthreatening tones.

He also didn’t keep the fact-checkers busy deep into the night, as his running mate Paul Ryan had the evening before, largely because his speech lacked details or specifics. That’s fine; he and his speechwriters had clearly decided to hit on big themes and to stress the candidate’s softer, more humane side, and again, they succeeded in doing so. But I’m doubtful that the American people came away wowed by the performance or by Romney himself.

The talk of the night, instead, focused on Clint Eastwood and his empty chair. They were clearly the weirdest tandem of the evening, which is saying something when Newt and Callista are also on the bill.

Again, all you ragin’ Cons– for a guy who wants the Commander-in-chief job, how many times did Mitt express his concern for our fighting soldiers in Afghanistan and our need to bring them home from that cesspool as soon as possible? And how much concern did Mitt show for our fellow Americans suffering along the Gulf coast this week? These are real concerns that Americans have, and we need to know what Mitt is ready to do help us all… thanks for the update!

The RNC put on a good convention, most speakers did a good job in their roles, and all of the typical pomp and circumstance was on display. We will see a different version of the same when the DNC convenes their convention. The tone of the RNC’s convention was one of a promise of a better future than we have seen in the last four years put on with all of the gloss that millions of dollars can buy.

What will the tone of the DNC convention be? They certainly cannot point to the prosperity under the current administration. They cannot point to the realized dream of greater unity in our country. They cannot point to much of anything in the way of accomplishments except the most unpopular law being shoved down the throats of Americans that I can recall in my lifetime. What they will do is try to scare the dickens out of seniors by saying the GOP will take away their entitlements. They will try to convince young people that the GOP doesn’t care about them. They will try to convince minorities that the GOP is for old white men only. Basically, the DNC will showcase division and fear with all of the gloss that millions of dollars can buy.

In other words, politics as usual. Here’s the catch: no matter how much spin the DNC and RNC try to put on things the simple truth is that most Americans are not better off than they were four years ago. In fact, most of us are in worse shape. People will remember this when they step into the voting booth in November. The American people are tired of excuses.

Same as us watching libs turning on Arthur Davis, Black Congressman from Alabama who has left the Democratic party because as he say’s ” He just can’t stomach it any more”.

Obviously, you don’t are clueless as well. I’m from Alabama, and I’d say he got pissed off after he didn’t get what he wanted in that run for governor. If Artur (check the spelling of his name) Davis was a true conservative, he would have stayed in Alabama instead of running to Virginia. The truth is, however, he saw what happened to his fellow Rep. Parker Griffith. Alabama conservatives don’t deal with fake conservatives who try to use the party to further their political careers. If you’re true, you’ll get the support. If not, you won’t get elected dogcatcher.

As to the Gay marriage thing, I am Black 24/7, so I’d gather that I live it just a wee bit more than you realize. Many Blacks have gay family members, and if you think they’re going to openly discriminate against their own family, then I have some beachfront property in Omaha next to Warren Buffet that I’ll sell you for the cheap.

You can ply that crap with somebody who don’t know better, but I am far more informed to fall for that BS.

What was Bush suppose to do after 9/11. Shake his finger and say don’t do that again? Somebody had to pay….and we all did with dollars and emotion.

What is it with the outright lies being told. Is it because of the full moon? We didn’t pay with dollars and emotion. We borrowed money from China to wage wars without even putting the costs into the yearly budget plan. We didn’t use emotion very long either. Many people grew ambivalent towards Iraq and Afghanistan after a while. Even the previous administration focused more on Iraq than Afghanistan, even with the knowledge that the terrorists that actually attacked us trained in Afghanistan.

The bigger question should be why did we go after Iraq and Afghanistan in regards to 9/11 while not even questioning Saudi Arabia as to why most of the hijackers were traveling on Saudi Passports? Seems that a country would have an inkling of who is using their documents to travel. Seems that the US is pretty decent when it comes to tracking it’s own citizens who travel to countries of interest.

If 9/11 happened on Obama’s watch, just tell me what HE would of done different. Do nothing?

You don’t know, and all you can do is speculate. Obama has been more brawn than Bush when it comes to waging war. I don’t think Bush targeted or killed any Americans. I don’t think Bush authorized any raids into sovereign territories to capture and/or kill high level targets. Both presidents took the same oath to defend the Constitution, and I believe they have both done and authorized what they thought was necessary to fulfill that duty. Unlike your living persona, neither Bush nor Obama pulled personnel out of Iraq or Afghanistan after they were attacked. They’ve both left our military there to take names and kick ass, and they’re doing a damned good job at both.

Brosephus, if people did not hear Romney they surely see Obama’s economy. Trust me, they heard Romney and they see Obama’s record. Enjoy the next 64 days. It is his last as President. Don’t worry though, he can still do a lot of liberal social damage in his time left before and after the election. Can’t wait to see who he pardons.

Kramer – “Butch, get as cute as you want with your posts. Obama’s record trumps anything and everything you post. Lipstick on a pig, lipstick on a pig.”

True, but I have no dog in this fight. I don’t support Obama, and if you want to support a third string 6 year benchwarmer, have at it. As to the Obama plan vs. the Romney plan, I don’t really care. I’m retired, 90% of my investments are tied up in tax free shelters, and I’m not really interested in whether or not you get the money back on tour house or find a better job. So please, throw all the Obama and lioberal jabs you want at me. When the dust settles, I’ll be where I’ve always been. Just fine.

“Are you better off today than you were four years ago?”

ABSOLUTELY, UNEQUIVOCALLY YES.

The entire republic is. You “forgot” (LOL!!!) that it was on the verge of a complete collapse!

The Bush Depression is at least somewhat under control now.

Obama’s Afghanistan current policy: Hey guys, we’re leaving in 12 months. We’re done. Shoot us while you can. We’re sitting and not attacking and trying to win. Yes, we are in a combat zone, but we are just waiting. ” Mission accomplished”…… Get the F___ out of there TODAY if we aren’t spending every waking frigging minute with every bullet we have trying to kill bad guys.

Remember how the Right Wingers threw Clint under the bus when he did the Super Bowl commercial, calling him a liberal. Now they have taken him back with open arms.

Mary Elizabeth 3:08 – that was the worst, completely empty rebuttal I have ever read.

That said, it is better than what the liberals here usually conjure up.

“You don’t know, and all you can do is speculate”

That is exactly what you have been doing all along. Just saying it at college level writing does not make it any less speculative. You and JamVet must live within yourselves.
