The teleprompter is only an issue if you suspect the speaker is a stuffed shirt who has no thoughts of his own to express. It’s probably unfair to paint Obama that way. It’s completely ridiculous to paint Ryan that way. Whatever you want to say about Ryan – agree or disagree with him. You can’t paint him as someone without substance.

Adam, a press conference where he actually takes questions about something other than the NCAA basketball tournament would be nice.

Don’t know if you know this, but Hussein has had exactly ONE press conference in the last four months in which he took questions. The presser was the day after Todd Akin made his asinine comments about rape.

In the meantime, he has done “interviews” with such hard-hitting media outlets such as Entertainment Tonight, People Magazine, Glamour Magazine, and several pop music and sports talk radio stations.

He thinks we are stupid. And liberals prove him right.

On that day President Obama and Secretary Duncan answered questions posed by some 6th graders (without teleprompters), then moved into another classroom where the president spoke to the assembled press pool (with teleprompters) about the “Race to the Top” program. The photo displayed below shows President Obama and Secretary Duncan during the “student chat” portion of their visit (no teleprompters in sight), and the video clip below that shows President Obama using teleprompters in a different classroom while speaking to the press:

The problem isn’t that a public speaker has a prompter. Speakers have always had notes or whatever to joy their memory. The problem begins when the speaker can’t do without one without either making a fool of himself because of his ignorance or without revealing his true political motives as Obama has done again and again (”You didn’t build this, the Government did!”) . Ryan has proven he can make great speeches without losing the message and making mistakes. As for Obama, Axlerod and Jarrett know that they cannot afford to have Obama speaking without total control of what the man is saying via the prompter because it would be too damaging. To that I only have to say it is too late. Obama and his two loonies (Pelosi and Reid) in Congress have already made very plain what their vision of America is and that is a citizenry totally dependent upon and totally controlled by the government. Entitlements are the avenue that liberals use to seek to control the people and in just 3.5 years under Obama far too many Americans who have just given up their self respect and dignity in return for for dependence upon the government. What Obama does not tell them is that this gravy train cannot go on forever and the time is growing really, really short when we can no longer function as a country because of our debt and that they will very soon be faced with an entitlement “Cold turkey”. And that is going to be far more painful than if they would have had leaders that would have given it to them straight up without making promises they could not possibly deliver such as Obama and the Democrats have done. Of course all Obama cares about is making another four years and after that it won’t matter to him (or Pelosi or Reid for that matter). They will have their cushy retirements with their cushy unlimited healthcare plans because they won’t have to live under Obama’s “Signature Legislation”, Obamacare. The rest of you idiot supporters of them will.

I refer to him as Hussein, or Barry Soetoro. It is / was his name. I didn’t / don’t call Bush Walker, but i did / do refer to him as W (dubya). What about Kasim? His full name is Mohammad Kasim Reed. It’s not so much that Barry uses a teleprompter. It is that without it, he speaks his mind, uses his own words, and gives his game away. He is a great orator using his writer’s words, but contemporaneous speaking is not his strong suit.

The whole idea of Bookman’s column is to draw hits to the site. This is easily done by casting blood into the water. All of us rise to the bait. It is immature at best, but it works to drum up business. Much like circulation numbers used to to be used to set advertising rates, hit numbers are now used for the same purpose. Mr. Bookman has been working very hard at this since Cynthia left for UGA. Now, that Cindy, she was an expert at chumming the waters. She could write a piece that would evoke a response. I miss her.

I seem to recall a visit President Obama made to Congress early in his term, where he literally gave them the mother of all rhetorical smackdowns in a policy debate, completely teleprompter free. I also recall the regrets the Republicans had over insisting there be cameras present to record the anticipated humiliation, never suspecting it would be their own.

Why can’t the right wingers just admit that in this particular case, they are sheep, mindlessly repeating a stupid, hypocritical, meaningless meme, provided for them by the dear leaders of their party, Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh, and then, just stop doing it.

What is it with people hoping and wishing for a hurricane to hit Tampa during the RNC convention?
Hurricanes KILL people (dem and repub).
Hurricanes destroys homes and places of work.
Hurricanes shatters lives.
Have you ever survived a hurricane? I have.
Hurricanes don’t just drop into an area (say a convention hall), do damage, and then disappear.
Hurricanes leave a path of death and destruction where ever they go.
Why would anyone hope and wish that kind of hardship and heartache on their fellow Americans just because they don’t like the politics of a group holding a convention?
People who wish the death and devastation that a hurricane brings on other Americans for political “jollies” are sick.

I have read some of the liberal articles you have linked and often read articles from sites like the Huffington Post, the New Republic and others. In my epistemology there is nothing that can be absolutely known to be true.

Sounds like a way to avoid facts. Is the earth round? Does it revolve around the Sun? Is there an asteroid belt? Does gravity exist and allow us to have a calculation for terminal velocity?

I don’t know why anyone would care about elected officials using teleprompters… Republican or Democrat. Very few individuals are gifted with the ability to just speak to large audiences completely unscripted and the flack Obama has received seems a little silly to me. That said, pointing out hypocrisy or double standards isn’t going to enlighten debate in this election by much. : /

Both political parties seem to be run by those at the extremes rather than those in the middle. Take a good look at the posters on this blog. “The first reason I like Marines: They set high standards for themselves and those around them, and will accept nothing less.

I like the way Marines march.

I like the way Marines do their basic training whether it’s Quantico, San Diego, or Parris Island.

I like the idea that Marines cultivate an ethos conductive of producing hard people in a soft age.

I like the fact that Marines stay in shape.

I like the fact that the Marines only have one boss – The Commandant.

And I like the directness of the Commandant.

I like the fact that Marines are stubborn.

I like the way Marines obey orders.

I like the way Marines make the most of the press.

I like the wholehearted professionalism of the Marines.

It occurred to me that the services could be characterized by different breeds of dogs.

The Air Force reminded me of a French Poodle. The poodle always looks perfect…sometimes a bit pampered and always travels first class. But don’t ever forget that the poodle was bred as a hunting dog and in a fight it’s very dangerous.

The Army is kind of like a St. Bernard. It’s big and heavy and sometimes seems a bit clumsy. But it’s very powerful and has lots of stamina. So you want it for the long haul.

The Navy, God bless us, is a Golden Retriever. They’re good natured and great around the house. The kids love ‘em. Sometimes their hair is a bit long….they go wandering off for long periods of time, and they love water.

Marines I see as two breeds, Rottweilers or Dobermans, because Marines come in two varieties: big and mean or skinny and mean. They’re aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense. They’ve got really short hair and they always go for the throat. That sounds like a Marine to me!

So what I really like about Marines is that first to fight isn’t just a motto, it’s a way of life.

From the day they were formed at Tun Tavern 200 plus years ago, Marines have distinguished themselves on battlefields around the world. From the fighting tops of the Bonhomme Richard, to the sands of Barbary Coast, from the swamps of New Orleans to the halls of Montezuma, from Belleau Wood, to the Argonne Forest, to Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima, and Okinawa and Inchon, and Chosin Reservoir and Hue City and , Quang Tri and Dong Ha and Beirut, and Grenada, and Panama, and Somalia and Bosnia and (Iraq and Afghanistan) a thousand unnamed battlefields in godforsaken parts of the globe, Marines have distinguished themselves by their bravery, and stubbornness and aggressive spirit, and sacrifice, and love of country, and loyalty to one another. They’ve done it for you and me, and this country we all love so dearly.

They asked for nothing more than the honor of being a United States Marine.”

You might want to review your history. Blacks voted for the R party right up until ww2. The shift began in the 30s I think but up until WW2 they still voted majority for the GOP. And lets not forget which party fought a war to end slavery and which party fought to preserve slavery.
