The big mystery of the 2012 GOP convention
Can anybody identify that rectangular item in the upper left-hand corner of this AP photo, taken during Paul Ryan’s speech last night to the Republican National Convention?
The vice-presidential nominee seemed to be glancing at it quite a bit last night, almost as if he was reading from it. Anybody got any ideas? In fact, I believe that every single speaker at the convention with one exception — Condi Rice — has been staring at that thing during their speeches. It’s almost as if they needed somebody to tell them what to say.
I’m going to be watching Mitt Romney closely tonight, just to see if he too starts staring at that … whatever it is. Weird, huh?

George Bush had an Bachelor’s from Yale, an MBA from Harvard, was Governor of Texas, and elected President of the United States TWICE. He was stupid like a fox.
Let me guess the retort: He only got where he did because of nepotism. If so, why aren’t Jimmy Carter’s kids, Ronald Reagan’s sons, and about a dozen Kennedys next in line for the White House?
Bush was a very smart man who was humble enough to act dumb. Being underestimated is a valuable secret weaon. I think he got a kick out of saying “nucular” instead of “nuclear” just to watch smarty-pants liberals’ heads explode. He knew what he was doing, and did it on purpose. I thought it was funny as heck too.

Jay – You wanna know what’s really funny about the Regressive convention, and the whole Regressive campaign, for that matter. It/they are focused almost exclusively on Paul Ryan. Myth Robme would certainly get more attention if Wonder Boy Ryan put the Mittster in a cage and strapped him onto Wonder Boy’s P90X enhanced back. Ya know, like Mittens did to Seamus.

On that day President Obama and Secretary Duncan answered questions posed by some 6th graders (without teleprompters), then moved into another classroom where the president spoke to the assembled press pool (with teleprompters) about the “Race to the Top” program. The photo displayed below shows President Obama and Secretary Duncan during the “student chat” portion of their visit (no teleprompters in sight), and the video clip below that shows President Obama using teleprompters in a different classroom while speaking to the press:

The problem isn’t that a public speaker has a prompter. Speakers have always had notes or whatever to joy their memory. The problem begins when the speaker can’t do without one without either making a fool of himself because of his ignorance or without revealing his true political motives as Obama has done again and again (”You didn’t build this, the Government did!”) . Ryan has proven he can make great speeches without losing the message and making mistakes. As for Obama, Axlerod and Jarrett know that they cannot afford to have Obama speaking without total control of what the man is saying via the prompter because it would be too damaging. To that I only have to say it is too late. Obama and his two loonies (Pelosi and Reid) in Congress have already made very plain what their vision of America is and that is a citizenry totally dependent upon and totally controlled by the government. Entitlements are the avenue that liberals use to seek to control the people and in just 3.5 years under Obama far too many Americans who have just given up their self respect and dignity in return for for dependence upon the government. What Obama does not tell them is that this gravy train cannot go on forever and the time is growing really, really short when we can no longer function as a country because of our debt and that they will very soon be faced with an entitlement “Cold turkey”. And that is going to be far more painful than if they would have had leaders that would have given it to them straight up without making promises they could not possibly deliver such as Obama and the Democrats have done. Of course all Obama cares about is making another four years and after that it won’t matter to him (or Pelosi or Reid for that matter). They will have their cushy retirements with their cushy unlimited healthcare plans because they won’t have to live under Obama’s “Signature Legislation”, Obamacare. The rest of you idiot supporters of them will.

You know there’s lots and lots of lights. Lots. Really high-powered. They generate a lot of heat and make the speaker sweat, ruining the makeup. They also generate lots of…. light! In the face! In the eyes! Makes the speaker squint. Doesn’t look good. Makes’em look shifty.
That device? It’s a sunshield. Strategicallly angled so the person’s still illuminated but without the heat and the glare.
What Republicans know is they’re made a US company started with stimulus funds and loan guarantees. But they’re okay with it because the owners are making a mint while creating all those jobs…. outsourced to China!

JamVet, I know you’ve probably spent most of your adult life in the public sector, but in the private sector “A “students end up working for “C” students all the time. College grades have little to nothing to do with success in the real world.
And besides, Bush’s college GPA was nearly identical to John Kerry’s. Actually, it was a little bit higher.
As for Hussein’s grades…. well, I guess we’ll never know.
My guess is Obama got an “A” in Public Speaking and an “F” in Economics.

It’s not so much that Barry uses a teleprompter. It is that without it, he speaks his mind, uses his own words, and gives his game away. He is a great orator using his writer’s words, but contemporaneous speaking is not his strong suit.
The whole idea of Bookman’s column is to draw hits to the site. This is easily done by casting blood into the water. All of us rise to the bait. It is immature at best, but it works to drum up business. Much like circulation numbers used to to be used to set advertising rates, hit numbers are now used for the same purpose. Mr. Bookman has been working very hard at this since Cynthia left for UGA. Now, that Cindy, she was an expert at chumming the waters. She could write a piece that would evoke a response. I miss her.

Hussein’s college transcripts are locked in that vault because he attended college as a foreign student, and almost certainly got preferential acceptance consideration because of it.
If anyone can tell me of a better reason (other than poor grades) why he hasn’t released the transcripts, I am all ears.

I didn’t take offense at “W”. I was making the point that disparaging the president’s middle name did not originate with Republicans using “Hussein”. Again, if his name was Willard Mitt Gaddafi Romney, I suspect Rachel Maddow and Chris Matthews might just mention it. Heck, Jon Stewart makes fun of Romney’s name anyway.

My guess is Obama got an “A” in Public Speaking and an “F” in Economics.
And was able to get into Colombia and Harvard as a foreign exchange student.
Zero evidence to support either. In fact evidence actually points to Obama entering as a U.S. citizen, and that all of his grades were good enough to get him magna cum laude.

I don’t know if what you claim if true or not but ……………… I do want to know how is education was funded/paid for (I couldn’t care less about his grades).
I don’t even care if he got “preferential treatment” regarding acceptance.
However, if as an American citizen he did receive scholarship money based on foreign student status then that very well may have been fraud.
The statue of limitations has long run ……….. but that would certainly go to his character.
I agree that hiding all of this certainly raises speculation.
He could provide the answer(s) very easily ……….. but I doubt he will.

Saw a story on it, can’t find it now. I wish I had had the foresight to save it, seeing as I should have known others would not have seen it and erroneously assume I was making it up.
Also, do you have any response over people hoping and wishing that Issac would hit Tampa during the convention? I don’t think those people were repubs.
