Atlanta’s Kasim Reed plays well on national scene

I didn’t see this at the time — Aug. 19 — because I haven’t watched the Sunday news shows in decades. But on Meet the Press, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed appeared with Ted Cruz, the Tea Party favorite who is now the GOP nominee for Senate in Texas, and conservative columnist Peggy Noonan.

Here’s what happened:

(h/t Peach Pundit)

UPDATE: For those unable to view the video, here’s a transcript of the two sections included above. The entire transcript is available here.

MR. REED: I want to push back on this notion of Paul Ryan as a serious man. He b– he voted for every budget b– busting measure under President Bush. He voted for TARP. He asked for money under the American Recovery and Investment Act. He voted for both wars. He put Medicare on a credit card, and then all of a sudden in last 24 months, he’s developing the stature as a serious guy, so I want to push back on that…

GREGORY: Well, so why…

MR. REED: …and then in terms of this week– and then in terms of this week, he has underperformed Sarah Palin. He’s contributed about a one percent bump, and according to Gallup, the Republican pick for Vice President typically performs at about five points.

GREGORY: So should that be– Mr. Cruz, should that be part of the record here? I mean, why is the Tea Party so supportive of a guy who is part of, what the Tea Party thinks, was profligate spending under his predecessor, under– under President Bush?

MR. CRUZ: Look I think the reason is simple. It’s because Paul Ryan has been serious about talking about these issues, about getting serious about solutions. You know, it’s ironic…

GREGORY: But votes– but votes matter.

MR. CRUZ: And– and I don’t– and I don’t agree with all of his votes. But– but…

GREGORY: Do we have…

MR. CRUZ: …let’s be– let’s be clear. Let’s contrast the leadership Paul Ryan

GREGORY: Sure.

MR. CRUZ: …with President Obama’s lack of leadership. The Senate for three years hasn’t had a budget. And so it’s very difficult for Democrats to complain, how dare the other side actually get serious about fixing these– these problems when they don’t even pretend to fix the problems.

MR. REED: He wasn’t serious under President Bush. Why wasn’t he serious when we were funding the war in Iraq? Why didn’t he say America should pay for the war in Afghanistan? Why didn’t he– why didn’t he say that when we have a TARP program, it needs to be available to folks on Main Street? He was for the automotive bailout.

MR. CRUZ: And, you know, I’m curious, did– did Barack Obama say any of that?

MR. REED: He– he was for that. No, no.

MR. CRUZ: Did the Democrats say any of that?

MR. REED: The Democrats did not. But I tell you what, we’re not walking around talking about a guy who has a career doing something completely different. He has a budget that doesn’t balance, and he’s– he claims that he’s a budget balancer. He’s using supply-side economics. They have a 20 percent tax policy that’s a five-trillion-dollar tax cut.

MR. CRUZ: And I agree with you.

MR. REED: That doesn’t make any sense.

MR. CRUZ: I agree with you but…

MR. REED: Doesn’t make any sense.

MR. CRUZ: …that Republicans spent too much…

MR. REED: And we’re sitting around here, acting and being polite and it doesn’t make sense.

And Reed’s comment on Joe Biden’s “chains” remark:

GREGORY: Kasim Reed, did you hear race in those remarks? Is there a racial appeal? Doug Wilder did as we showed the governors before.

MR. REED: I — I didn’t hear it. I mean, I watched the entire presentation, got a copy of the transcript. I didn’t hear it. I think that this is small ball. I think that he was talking about the Wall Street recovery, and– and that was the context of the message. When Mitt Romney or Paul Ryan stands up to Rush Limbaugh, when– when– when they’re disparaging a Georgetown law student or stands up to Ted Nugent, really stands up to anybody or stands up to Donald Trump, then I’ll be willing to have a conversation about a comment that the vice president made.

Not a big fan of Reed, but he does ask a legitimate question. Paul Ryan voted for every spending bill that hit the table and now wants prove that he’s a fiscal conservative.

Not until you admit I’m the king of asshattery. :D

Seriously, watch it when you get a chance. He basically questions the notion of Ryan being a “serious guy” and his hard line talk about the budget when under the Bush admin he voted FOR every budget busting policy. Two unfunded wars, TARP, unfunded medicare benefits, ect……..

I haven’t really taking Kasim Reed serious before, but he was awesome there. I’m going to have to pay more attention to him. He looks like he could become a major player in politics, unlike the scamster Bill Campbell. I also think he is looking beyond Mayor of Atlanta unlike Shirley Franklin.

IMO, these are exactly the points Democrats need to be pushing between now and Election Day. Showing that Republicans were against reining in spending before they were for it will put them in an uncomfortable and defensive position.

I had posted, earlier, that Ryan was chosen for Romney’s VP to build a leadership role for him in the future of the Republican Party, as much as for his present VP role. Noonan is perpetuating that Republican agenda for Ryan through attempting to enhance his image for the future. It’s political spin.

Kasim Reed is having none of it. He is going for truth, just as Chris Matthews was going for truth, on “Morning Joe” in the past week, relative to Republican spin regarding President Obama.

The last thread on this blog dealt with the Republican Party’s duplicity. Perhaps some will begin to realize what that party is about. Remember the Swift Boat ads. I predict a climbing political career for Kasim Reed’s future, and I compliment him for speaking truth, with passion, on Meet the Press.

If Artur Davis were a true conservative, he would not have ran from a Conservative state to switch parties. Instead, he turned tail because he saw what happened to Parker Griffith in Alabama. In the eyes of the Alabama GOP, the expiration date of party switching has passed. If Davis wants to impress me, he’d run for any statewide position under the GOP in Alabama.

I don’t think Kasim has done a terrible job, Just not a great job either. Atl. still has a lot of problems and I really can’t think of anything impressive that he’s done. At least Franklin fixed the sewers which while not glamorous was a huge project.

Bottom line is that its hard to respect a man who seems to be playing the same old typical Democratic corruption and with the favorite tool of corruption in Atl- the airport. Some here are apparently VERY confused about being a liberal or Independent and being a Democrat.

I am a devoted John F Kennedy/Ralph Nader liberal but in no way shape or form, a Democrat.

Why?

The Democratic Party is anything but liberal. They are basically another pro-war, pro-corporatocracy and pro-plutocracy criminal organziation like the Con Party.

They have moved to the political right so much that they are now nothing more than Republican-lites.

And the diseased. Lily White fake conservatives/Tea Party?

They have lurched a million light years from the political center. And in many cases have returned to their perverted, demented, McCarthyesque, quasi-fascist and racist roots…

Good for Mayor Reed for pushing back on the false notion that Ryan is a serious person. He proposed and passed budgets in the House that privatizes Medicare, privatizes Social Security, slashes Medicaid, cuts taxes for the rich, and raises taxes on the middle class…all without balancing the budget.

He’s not serious about growing the economy or balancing the budget. He’s serious about enriching the rich (that is, when he’s not busy working to take away women’s access to IVF, contraception, and health care).

Oh. By the way. Paul Ryan has “never seen the inside of a lemonade stand.” That seems to be important to Republicans…at least when they’re talking about Democrats.

I’ve been watching Kasim Reed on the Sunday morning talk shows the last few months, and have been struck and surprised by how good he is. In this clip he is great, following up those stupid comments by Peggy Noonan about what a “serious man” Paul Ryan, by pointing out some of the contradictions and bs in Ryan’s voting record (under Bush) and his make believe budgets. Even Ted Cruz had to acknowledge what Reed was saying about Ryan. Peggy Noonan looked a little “taken aback”, and David Gregory, while he seemed to like it, also almost seemed to be looking at Reed a little like “what are you doing? We’re supposed to polite to the conservative bs on these shows.” Reed was absolutely right to push back and not “be polite”. Way to go Kasim — he actually makes me a little proud to be from Atlanta.

Not sure if Reed is getting any personal gain from the airport, however he sort of overlooked a few things in regards to the vendors or at least his office did. Granted not all of those who contributed to his campaign and bid on those contracts were awarded one, but several were. The way several of the vendors were designated in their bid alarms me more than the fact that they gave to his campaign.

You can at least be encouraged by the fact that Governor Jindal has already asked for Obama’s help with the hurricane. In fact Jindal has even criticized Obama for not giving him enough federal tax dollars yet. So, Jindal may like to put on a Republican facade for the camera but he knows that in reality, his ability to pull on those bootstraps depends on the fed’s delivery of a couple of really big helping hands.

“I see it a little differently Doomy. I see it as the libs bring up TARP as a “bad” thing whenever the Pubs try to say that all the debt is Obama’s fault.”

Cons aren’t saying the debt is all Obama’s. Only about 6 trillion of it occurred under his administration. And if I’m not mistaken tarp or at least part of it was attributed to W and his debt numbers.

Regardless though even if you attributed the fact that the 09 fiscal budget went into effect 3 months before O took office he still has a staggering amount of debt to show for the other years in office. And if we give W credit for the 2009 deficit then we should likewise give O credit for the 2013 deficit should he lose re-election. Just being consistent and all.

“Or when the politico’s try to posture as “fiscal conservatives” like Ryan did.”

Perhaps he is being labeled as a “fiscal conservative” because he is actually now trying to come up with a plan to save Medicare and to get our fiscal house in order. What matters is what we are doing right now in the present to get our fiscal house in order.

Dems can rightly criticize him for not being exactly frugal regarding spending on the wars and other spending under W. But that doesn’t have anything to do with taking action on our nation’s finances now that we have reached a staggering 16 trillion in debt. Spending back then was a problem. But we weren’t at 16 trillion in debt back then. We are now.

And as I mentioned TARP was supported by both parties so Reed’s criticism of TARP rings hollow to me. He can justly criticize spending on the wars also but rightly or wrongly the Rs felt the wars were a necessary evil. And lest we forget a lot of Dems agreed- particularly on Afghanistan. A fact that Dems quickly seem to forget.

And last on that matter the Dem talking point nonsense about 2 unfunded wars is utter nonsense. They were off the books and while they didn’t show up in W’s deficit numbers they damn sure showed up in his debt numbers.

My point is simple. That anything that can be done by private enterprise as opposed to being done by govt should be done by private enterprise in the name of having a more efficient allocation of resources. And the taxpayer getting more bang for his buck. There are examples of market failure where we do indeed require and need the services of govt. Roads, bridges, national defense, dams, etc. All govt is not bad. Some of it is quite necessary.

The N. Korea and Soviet Union example conveys one simple and obvious point to all. A market solution is almost always going to be better and more efficient than a centralized, top down big gubment approach. And if someone doesn’t believe and understand that then they have a mind that is simply beyond help.

Sorry, Mr. Bookman, but this “logic” won’t play anywhere. Your liberal blog pretending that it can provide information on a conservative is a bit like Fidel Castro being fair and balanced about Cuban dissidents in prison, quoting them verbatim for the public good.

I doubt very seriously that any private company that was seriously trying to build parking would sit idly by while a city government led by a Democrat in a Conservative State stymied their attempts at starting/expanding their business.

—————————-

Bro, the dems can’t come up with any Bush policies that caused the housing collapse either, but that hasn’t stopped anybody from blaming him even still today has it?

Other than attempting to tie two different things into one, I don’t see much to agree with. I have seen many people blame Bush policies for our economic collapse. I have seen many people blame the housing collapse for our economic issues. I don’t recall, however, anybody saying that Bush’s housing policies cause the collapse of the housing market. It could be simply that I have not seen that argument made with my own eyes, so I can’t say whether that’s the case or not.

Either way, anybody who’s willing to state their argument for either one of those should have proof to back up their claims. If someone blames Bush for the housing collapse, then they should have proof to support their claim just as anybody blaming Obama for running up $6 Trillion in debt should have proof to show where he’s responsible other than the fact that he’s occupying the WH.

“profit motivated”? Hmmm. Something wrong with being motivated by profit? It is after all what made this country great. Only in the world of the kook left is “profit motivated” bad.

“And temptations to use unfair means?” I believe what we need is a Judicial review board to monitor “temptations to use unfair means”. Probably need a thought police force to back them up. Just more kook left gobbledeegook based on kook left utopianism and worldview of what constitutes “fairness”.

Thomas Friedman has praised Reed in the New York Times for balancing the city’s budget by limiting the pensions of city employees. This money was instead spent on the police force, as well as on community centers in poor neighborhoods (rather than on reversing the 42% increase in property taxes passed in 2009).

Bet he made a lot of friends with that move.

Like all politicians, he flows in whatever direction the public opinion waters flow. Maybe Obama could call him for some advice on how to run a govt without all the stupidity.

Too bad Reed has the stink of Obama bundler Mack Wilbourn associated with him. I had high hopes for Reed until he awarded Wilbourn airport concessions worth $300mm under Atlanta’s minority business program. WSB has reported that audits confirmed that Wilbourn’s application did not conform to the minority business development program because he is worth in excess of $50mm- but he was awarded the franchise anyway. Reed clearly has higher political ambitions and hopes that by taking care of an Obama bundler today, he will be remembered tomorrow. That’s how it works in Chicago and that’s how Bill Campbell did it. The sad part is that other eligible minority business people were screwed because they didn’t host a fund raiser for Obama. To continue your Orwellian theme, in Obamaland, some people (Obama bundlers) are more equal than others.

Take a typical Bain transaction involving an Indiana-based company called American Pad and Paper. Bain bought Ampad in 1992 for just $5 million, financing the rest of the deal with borrowed cash. Within three years, Ampad was paying $60 million in annual debt payments, plus an additional $7 million in management fees. A year later, Bain led Ampad to go public, cashed out about $50 million in stock for itself and its investors, charged the firm $2 million for arranging the IPO and pocketed another $5 million in “management” fees. Ampad wound up going bankrupt, and hundreds of workers lost their jobs, but Bain and Romney weren’t crying: They’d made more than $100 million on a $5 million investment.

To recap: Romney, who has compared the devilish federal debt to a “nightmare” home mortgage that is “adjustable, no-money down and assigned to our children,” took over Ampad with essentially no money down, saddled the firm with a nightmare debt and assigned the crushing interest payments not to Bain but to the children of Ampad’s workers, who would be left holding the note long after Romney fled the scene. The mortgage analogy is so obvious, in fact, that even Romney himself has made it. He once described Bain’s debt-fueled strategy as “using the equivalent of a mortgage to leverage up our investment.”

Please tell me this is not the Repub nominee………….

Fair? Hardly not.

Conservative voters complained about G.W.’s spending when he was in office but we weren’t heard by our political elites. However, we sent them a strong message in 2006 and 2008. With that message the Democrats got full control of all three branches of government. With that control, the Democrats didn’t even pretend to be concerned with the impending insolvency of America’s entitlement programs… they just tacked another one onto the future bill with the full support of their electorate

The Republican electorate sent a message to their elected leaders that a change in course is demanded. The democrat electorate simply sends the message to maintain course. We see the fiscal iceberg in the distance and America will choose a course this November, the iceberg isn’t moving or melting.

Democrat memory slots will delete the plain truth that Romney built a company called Bain, if the distortion is that he built nothing else. Whether or not he built other companies isn’t too clear (MSM).

What that means is that it is all too clear that he did, in fact, build companies much like Warren Buffet does with his much larger firm. I listened to the NPR leftist show, Fresh Air with Terri Gross last night, and in their discussion of the book, The Real Romney, even the authors admitted that he had.

Your dog simply won’t hunt or get out from under the porch.

But you might give Gross a call about your “new” information. She didn’t seem at all satisfied that the authors could find no pictures or first hand accounts of Mitt Romney pushing grandma off a cliff or wearing sheets and burning crosses.

What Reed fail to mention is that the government actually made money on the program. Yes, some institutions (banks specifically) have not paid it back as many went under. Thus far some 535 entities have failed to pay… Of those, around 350, received less than $100 million in relief. The profits made from Wall Street banks and the Car industry specifically are in the 10s of billions which far covers the losses. This, of course, is typical with any investments. You win some and you lose some. At the end you hope to have more wins than losses. In the case of TARP, we won!

The war in Afghnistan ultimately produced Bin Laden and sent countless numbers of his thugs to the afterlife where they are enjoying their harem of virgins (LOL!). None of this would have been possible had we not engaged the Taliban in various countries throughout the world.

Most of us who served in Iraq and Afghanistan realize that we made a difference for millions of people who were living under fear and without a fraction of freedoms that you and I enjoy! We paid a price for their newly found opportunity and very few of us regret it!!!

The sight was so disgusting that people everywhere were ready to drop an H-bomb on Lower Manhattan and bayonet the survivors. But today that same insane greed ethos, that same belief in the lunatic pursuit of instant borrowed millions – it’s dusted itself off, it’s had a shave and a shoeshine, and it’s back out there running for president.”

Before Kasim jumps in on national “profligate spending” he should pay attention to his own. Again, small to the national debate and even small in comparison to dirt deals but in his own backyard Kasim paid a political contributor more than a million dollars to clear snow from 146 intersections. No competitive bids. No itemization of the actual work done other than the number of intersections. It works out to nearly $7k per intersection and the contractor originally billed at $10k per. We’re not talking about building intersections or even paving them, just clearing the snow and ice. In the next rare snow event I would like a piece of that action. Reed’s aspirations for higher office are so painfully evident. He can’t even keep his own house in order; how does he expect anyone to take him seriously? Reed is involved in the airport food-server contracts with some sort of reward expected. Reminds me of the time when Mayor Franklin’s husband was given some plum contracts at the airport and then he died owing thousands of dollars due in taxes to the feds, the state and the city. Jay, I agree with you 100% that Mayor Reed plays well on the National scene. However as Mayor there is a Lot to be desired. Mayor Reed is a policy maker and a Legislator first. You can easily see, that is where his Heart is. The citizens of Atlanta NEED & DESIRE so much more than that. We need a Mayor that does not mind getting down to the nuts and bolts of things that make this city operate. Like protecting our children from being forced to walk a mile to school in such a very dangerous city. We need a Mayor that will LEAD on the parking and panhandling issues we are faced with. We also need a Mayor to convince a stubborn Governor that his denial of the Medicaid expansion program is not good for the citizens of Atlanta and Georgia. Unfortunately, Mayor Reed has other interests of lobbying for for his upcoming re-election campaign that will certainly be hard pressed for community support for a second Term!

Why didn’t he– why didn’t he say that when we have a TARP program, it needs to be available to folks on Main Street? He was for the automotive bailout.”

These comments come off as jibber jabber if you are trying to say Ryan isn’t a serious minded person. You can be for the auto bailout and be serious. He should say that America should pay for the war in Afghanistan? Not serious when we were funding the war in Iraq? A TARP for individuals?

President Bush routinely funded both wars via “Emergency Supplemental Spending Measures” each year he was in office (and this continued through most of 2009), and Congress let it happen. Don’t you suppose that Congress realized that the wars were going to have to be funded? Why then, didn’t they insist on having those items in the budget instead of funded by some damnfool “emergency” measure. Pretty good I guess, but I do not watch either convention so I will be missing all of the speakers.

To me Davis is a scorned lover, just like Christie from FL, who ran from the Republicans when he didn’t get the support they felt they deserved from their respective parties.

Both now claim to see the light after losing elections.

Coincidence?

What I’m saying is that neither one of those guys is going to move the polls one iota. However they do have the right to feign outrage after the fact and run to the other side to speak at the conventions.

Pretty silly on both accounts in my opinion.

I would thing different of either or both had they left after winning an election.

Compromise, countless hard working, tax paying, play by the rules, patriotic American citizens – some of them veterans who were also Occupy protesters – asked the question, “Why a bailout for Wall Street? When they CAUSED the meltdown. And where is the bailout for the people on main street and the victims of those crimes?”

As for the not serious part, it was pretty obvious that Reed was damning Paul and his willfully ignorant acolytes for NOT being serious about fiscal responsibility.

The GOP’s disgraceful, documented track record over the past thirty years or more speaks for itself.

And it is much louder that the endlessly echoed claptrap contending otherwise.

Okay, we all remember Todd Akin making the stupid comments and many on the left declaring that his comments defined the Republican Party and conservatives in general. So I ask those same people if they agree that the hack job on Wikipedia of this young black woman’s profile is indicative of the left? If not, why not?

Tuesday night after rising GOP star Mia Love brought down the house with her inspiring convention speech, the stomach-turning Left labeled the black conservative a “token” and an “Aunt Tom.”

Meanwhile, revoltingly racist, woman-hating Wikipedia vandals were hard at work updating her entry with disgusting slurs like “House N**ger” and “dirty, worthless wh*re.” The page called her a “total sell-out to the Right Wing Hate machine and the greedy bigots who control the GOP.”

I ask because I was listening to him this morning. He was talking about Cardinal Dolan who will be speaking at the convention.

He wasn’t to keen on the Cardinal speaking before the Democrats because many Catholic Democrats are pro choice, which of course is against the teaching of the Catholic Church.

I can understand his concern, however he didn’t mention that many of the Catholics at the Republican convention are for the death penalty (for the record I am as well). That is also against the teachings of the Catholic Church.

His selective condemnation and feigned outrage was actually comical.

After 15 minutes or so, I had more than my fill for at least a month.

I hear you but I believe they leave an opening for extreme cases:

“Paul J. Surlis writes that Church teaching on the death penalty has been in transition.[1] The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that the death penalty is permissible in cases of extreme gravity. The Church teaches that capital punishment is allowed if the “guilty party’s identity and responsibility have been fully determined” and if the death penalty is the only way to defend others against the guilty party.

However, if there are other means available to defend people from the “unjust aggressor”, these means are preferred to the death penalty because they are considered to be more respectful of the dignity of the person and in keeping with the common good.[2](2267)

Because today’s society makes possible effective means for preventing crime without execution, the Catechism declares that “the cases in which execution of the offender is an absolute necessity ‘are very rare, if practically nonexistent.’”[2]

In his encyclical Evangelium Vitae published in 1995, Pope John Paul II removed this public safety qualification and declared that, in today’s modern society, capital punishment can scarcely ever be condoned.[1]”

NEWSFLASH–NEWSFLASH–NEWSFLASH

Another Libtard chokes to death on filet of sole. The bodies stack up as these loons come unhinged at the prospect of Obama’s defeat and the rise of a more conservative America. And as we know from statisical data; more Americans identify with being conservative than any other ilk.

David Chalian, the Yahoo News Washington Bureau chief, has been fired after getting caught claiming that “they” — Mitt Romney and his fellow Republicans — “are happy to have a party with black people drowning.”

The implication: that Republicans’ decision to continue with their convention despite the hurricane hitting New Orleans means they don’t care about black people.

Chalian’s words were first caught by the conservative media criticism site Newsbusters. Yahoo! has released a statement apologizing for the comment and announcing that Chalian had been terminated.

“David Chalian’s statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!. He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters and anyone who was offended.”

But as we all know from the Todd Akin episode, this is clear proof that the entire Yahoo organization feels exactly the same as the idiot that made the remark, which Yahoo is trying to pass off as an off color joke.

Today on CBS’s morning show, former Bush administration Secretary of State and top Mitt Romney surrogate Condoleezza Rice could not offer any specific foreign policy failures made by President Obama. Romney’s allies, led by Rice and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), are expected to attack Obama on national security grounds tonight in at the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

But when asked to offer specifics this morning on CBS, all Rice could come up with was some vague attack on Obama’s Syria policy, which, host Norah O’Donnell noted, the president himself might agree with

So despite the fact that the GOP plans to attack Obama’s foreign policy, Rice has no interest in “looking back.” Instead, she said, she wants to “look forward,” yet she doesn’t have any idea what Romney’s international agenda is either. And on Syria, it turns out that the policy Romney has articulated thus far isn’t much different from the Obama administration’s.

But as far as attacking Obama on foreign policy grounds goes, the Republicans are going to have a tough time. Poll after poll shows that Americans favor Obama over Romney in handling international issues. And the Wall Street Journal noted today that their recent poll “found 54% of voters approve of Mr. Obama’s handling of foreign policy, his highest score in more than a year and far better than what either George W. Bush or Bill Clinton fetched as they sought re-election.”

During Tuesday’s trial [SC trial regarding voting right act], critics who charge that [SC] voter ID is designed to disenfranchise minority voters appeared to have scored an important victory when they presented the law’s author state Rep. Alan Clemmons (R), with racist emails he received while drafting the legislation:

Garrard Beeney, who represented the civil rights groups, presented emails sent to and from Clemmons’ personal account between 2009 and 2011, when he was working on the law.

One, from a man named Ed Koziol, used racially charged rhetoric to denounce the idea that poor, black voters might lack transportation or other resources necessary to obtain photo ID. If the legislature offered a reward for identification cards, “it would be like a swarm of bees going after a watermelon,” Koziol wrote.

Beeney asked Clemmons how he had replied to this email. Clemmons hesitated a moment before answering, “It was a poorly considered response when I said, ‘Amen, Ed, thank you for your support.’”

I hope the Repubs are more gracious to Michelle Obama than the Democrats were to Ann Romney but I guess we already know which side has more class!

You have seen what has been said about FLOTUS by some of the GOP correct?

You’ll have to show us a link where Mrs Romney has had to deal with
that same level of treatment or your just blowin’ smoke.

Since you seem to be running a little more slowly than usual today, RB, I’m going to do you a big favor and break it down for you. Here’s what actually happened.

What RB said (see @ 12:09 PM on page 3 of this thread) – “Bro, the dems can’t come up with any Bush policies that caused the housing collapse either, but that hasn’t stopped anybody from blaming him even still today has it?”

My reply (see @ 12:15 PM on page 3 of this thread) – “I do wish that he hadn’t intervened when states tried to implement tougher mortgage documentation policies before the meltdown.”

BTW, note that I said nothing about President Clinton in my reply.

RB’s response (see @ 1 PM on page 5 of this thread) – “Joe, I don’t suppose you’d care to support your claim Bush blocked states attempts to tighten mortgage rules which were mostly put in place by Clinton would you?”

Now why would he bring President Clinton into the mix? I didn’t bring up President Clinton, and besides . . .

My response to RB (see @ 1:49 PM on page 6 of this thread) – “RB, this is what I’m speaking about.”

(2 links were included)

“I objected to your earlier construction because I didn’t bring up President Clinton in regards to this, and AFAIK, he wasn’t involved in it anyway.”

“In any event, I think you know that I didn’t vote for Clinton either time. I voted for Perot in ‘92 and Dole in ‘96, so bringing up Clinton won’t get you any traction with me.”

So, RB, I already spotted your misrepresentation, pointed it out AND had supported my claim about President Bush with evidentiary links – all before you came back to dishonestly call me a liar again. Maybe you *thought* I brought up President Clinton, but the fact of the matter is that I *didn’t* and that you falsely claimed that I had. And I already pointed that out to you before you started your obligatory complaining about me ‘lying’ to you.

News flash, guy. When the words I *actually* say don’t match up to the words you *wish* I had said, that’s not me lying. That’s *you* lying.

Now, if you want to refer back to my links and discuss the meat of the claim I presented to you, I’m all for that. But IMO you really need to sharpen up on your attention to detail and stop calling other posters liars.

I guess if Obama wins, more jobs building roads, bridges and govt work will be available. College degrees will not be necessary! If Romney wins, my guess is more jobs like IT positions, engineers, etc in private market requiring degrees. Which is the educated work-force of the future? I guess my biggest concern though, is that Cons think of the future of their children and grandkids and the National Debt. Libs(correct me if I am wrong) think of RIGHT NOW IT IS ABOUT ME) and no concern over our exploding National Debt?

Got news for you on the IT jobs (edumicated ones) have been offshored to the cheapest labor.

Kasim does very well in this type of format. Obviously, Mr. Ryan is being over touted as some kind of reformer when the proposals he is making in slashing the top tax bracket is utterly ridiculous in terms of fiscal responsibility. If you can’t balance the budget until 2040, then you can’t even begin to pay the debt; ironically, the Republicans have the stupid number increasing on a board during the convention; why don’t they just show the number if the Ryan budget were to pass, it’s astronomical! When is anybody going to give a truthful, honest proposal for any of these things. I could propose balanced budget rather quickly, but all of the interest groups would howl and the members of both parties would run for shelter. Remember, we not only need to balance the budget, but we actually have to pay the debt! That can’t even start until you balance the budget…Ryan’s some kind of hero for balancing the budget in 2040 and giving the fat cat supporters of the Rove fund a huge tax break in the process? That’s worthy of a two syllable PUH-LEEEEZE!

Kasim Reed has an unusual and unexpected solid punch in his debating posture. I first notice it when he would come to the television station to answer questions when most of us would have wanted to hide. O has a lot of this, let get it on spirit in him, he went to a Republican retreat, a few years ago, practically by himself to discuss the Congress passing some bills. Romney is a hider who takes his meals in a closet. Obama and Reed truly look like they enjoy the heat, not worried they are going to be trapped saying the wrong thing. I have said often this contest is over when O debates Romney, the contrast in mental ability of the two is way in the favor of Obama. Reed ain’t bad either. Seldom will you catch these nuvo politicians on the right taking on someone in the middle straight up, I think the “mayor” title fooled Ted Cruz and again after watching Perry debating doesn’t seem to be a Texans strong point. anyway

As has been pointed out repeatedly, he even has some of the (W)orst Ever’s “advisers” on his staff.

Yes, I see things from a conservative view, my children and grandchildren’s future is the most important thing to me. Next is the National Debt. I believe you should earn what you get in life, not expect someone to give it to you. I know these views are the opposite of what you Democratic liberals believe in. I was just kiddin about the foreign countries, someone else opened that can of worms. So what if Romney sent jobs overseas, Obama was nothing more than a Community Organizer and activist. At least Romney knew a little about jobs and did not spend most of his life in foreign countries growing up. This should be about Pres of the United States not the United Nations! Go ahead and elect your guy and see National Debt at 20 trillion when he leaves office in 4 yrs. LIVE FOR TODAY and don’t worry about the future is what you apparently are all-about!
