Boy, I’d sure like to know more about this, and I suspect that we will in time. But for the moment, this is all we know, via AP:
“LUDOWICI, Ga. — Prosecutors say a murder case against four soldiers in Georgia has revealed they formed an anarchist militia within the U.S. military with plans to overthrow the federal government.
One of the accused troops, Pfc. Michael Burnett, pleaded guilty Monday to manslaughter and gang charges in the December slayings of former soldier Michael Roark and his girlfriend, 17-year-old Tiffany York.
Burnett told a Long County judge that Roark, who had just left the Army, knew of the militia group’s plans and was killed because he was “a loose end.”
Prosecutor Isabel Pauley says the group bought $87,000 worth of guns and bomb-making materials and plotted to take over Fort Stewart, bomb targets in nearby Savannah and Washington state, as well as assassinate the president.”
Sometimes these things get blown out of proportion, but $87,000 in weaponry suggests otherwise. And when you’re willing to murder two people to keep the plot secret, you’re pretty serious about it. The bodies of Roark and York were found by fishermen along a deserted rural road. They had apparently been executed.

My point exactly. If that’s true, there’s gotta be some incriminating evidence somewhere of the fundraising that was needed to get those weapons. Either that, or there should be inventory discrepancies that can possibly account for the weapons cache, if they are military issued.

Garbage in – garbage out. And there is so much garbage and hate rammed down the gullible throats of people who were taught nothing in history class but BS. WE are not allowed to teach that Lee had slave girls whipped, or that he boasted that God intended slavery to be painful. We are not allowed to teach that Davis ran away in a dress leaving his children behind in danger while bullets flew.
Truth matters, and we don’t teach it. WE should not teach history AT ALL in schools, if all th ey are gonna do is goofy distortions.

I was thinking that same thing. The only thing i could come up with is that the PFC worked in the armorey and had access to “dead” weapons, (weapons being replaced with newer models); and was selling them on the side.
But then, he’d have to have at least 8 accomplices inside the armorey to make that happen.

Call it like it is, I stand by my post. It’s too bad that you can’t stand up to the GOP and tell them to quit embracing radical types. Now let’s be clear….I have no idea if these accused are GOP members. I do know that when the GOP candidate suggests that the President is not born in this country (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) and when the constant harping is that “he is not American”, the GOP stands proud (see, Trump, Newt and the other members of the clown car parade speaking to the GOP this week, including
76 birthers)…but when the results of their encouragement bears fruit (whether actually affirmatively intended or merely because of their reckless behavior), the standard is of course to whine and claim “why we neva…..”John McCain stood tall when he stopped the crazy and said Obama is a US citizen….Mitt continues to go the low road and its a whistlecall to the fruitcakes and extremists.

No different than when the U.S. sought to freeze accounts that they suspected had been funding terrorist operations overseas, what makes you think our home grown terrorists and militias are not funded by simlar means?? People need to pull their heads out of their behinds! CNBC aired a documentary one time “Dangerously Rich:Billionaire Super Security”, and “Billionaire Security: Ultimate Protection Measures”.Check it out. It gives a lot of insight into the lengths that the rich and super rich are willing to go to to “protect” themselves, families and their “stuff”. Think it to be far fetched that the “rich” and “super rich” in this country could be funding these militia groups? Think it to be far-fetched that people like Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck, who use their platforms the way that the do could also somehow fund these types of people to give the ultimate support to the agenda? Think again.
Ron Paul had it right at his convention yesterday. The biggest threat to the U.S. is Fascism. All this big money and big money people have an agenda, and as long as there are “loners”, “nuts”, “lone wolves” and other brainwashed rubes who are out here to take their money filtered through whatever anonymous channels and arm themselves up and cause chaos and do their bidding, hey…what do they care? Terrorism in this country has almost always been by right-wing Americans. Ku Klux Klan anyone? I recently read an article about how skin-heads and other Nazi type groups were actively having their members volunteer for military service in order to receive taxpayer paid military training, that they had been forming cells and gangs, and that the Defense Dept. had started an investigation into this. It doesn’t surprise me that some could not wait to leave the military before using their new skills. Tea Partyers, what do you think about this development? You reap what you sow.

This is a disgrace to all the armed forces personnel who’re faithfully, lawfully, and professionally discharging their duties of loyalty to their Commander in Chief, even if they disagree with his politics. These plotters ought to be charged with and prosecuted for high treason. But it didn’t start with them– oh, no. All these right-wing pundits masquerading as journalists & talk radio blubberbutts who’re constantly frothing at the mouth about Obama have helped to create this atmosphere of hatred, this pervasive mentality of “us vs. Them”, and I’m sick of these bloviators getting away with it. You can’t wink your eye & advocate for anarchy whilst hiding behind the 1st Amendment, and expect a certain segment of the population not to take you seriously. Those who want to claim the left is equally as bad as the right with such sheninigans are just flat-out WRONG– you didn’t hear about left-leaning folk plotting to overthrow the government when Dubya was in office, nor did you see the left-leaning press tacitly encouraging such antics, either. If it goes to the local DA; she’d be burderned with a lot of “rights” for the accused. In a military court, that burden is greatly lifted.

You can make it tougher and you can stand up when someone talks about “second amendment remedies” and that the President is not legitimate for whatever made up reason and say: He is our duly elected President. If you don’t like his policies, then you have representation to try to change that and you have a vote in elections. We do not have any violent remedies against lawfully and peacefully elected officials and NO ONE should advocate or even suggest that such violent remedies are an option
Again, its a shame that many extreme GOPpers (including those like Ted Nugent) cannot do that. I hope that moderate GOPpers will stand up and say enough is enough. Frankly, it does not matter whether the crazies are on the right or left….. enough is enough.

I think that any reasonable American who viewed what was supposedly done at Ft. Stewart, if it is true, would never condone that kind of behavior. We are a nation of laws, or at least we used to be, and this kind of behavior, again, if true, has no place in the spectra of what is considered truly American. Unfortunately, when one political party or persuasion cherry picks an incident like this and ignores all of the myriad of events that have happened over the years by others of a different persuasion, the hypocrisy is just too much to ignore. We all have our skeletons which we hide in closets and are very hesitant to reveal. And the Tea Party had nothing to do with this charade. Why they are just a bunch of old white haired brown shirted Nazis with lawn chairs….. nome, sayin’?

For all of those who talk about right wing talk radio as being the problem: There is more “hate talk” from the left on this site than there is in a year’s worth of listening to all the right wing radio show hosts combined. It must be a very scary world to you.
___________________________________________________
The “hate” comes from BOTH sides.
But BOTH sides blame the other because they agree with “hate” coming from *their* side.
Kinda like football. They never complain when a offensive tackle on *our* team holds a defensive player on *their* team because “Hey, it’s *us* doing it to *them*, so it’s ok.”
What they don’t get is BOTH teams are f**king up the game.

Ahh, Ludowici
The town gained notoriety during the 1950s and 1960s for its aggressive traffic enforcement policies. The AAA went so far as to specifically label Ludowici as a speed trap.[citation needed] Before interstate highways were constructed, all motorists traveled on regular U.S. highways. Ludowici was at the crossroads of three U.S. highways, Routes 25, 82 and 301.[5]
Members of the local police force were allegedly engaging in manipulation of the timing of the traffic signal downtown so as to catch unsuspecting out-of-area motorists ‘running’ a suddenly changed red light. The switch for the stop light was located in the barber shop. This activity subsequently came to an end when then-Governor Lester Maddox stated that the practices of the Ludowici police were giving the entire state a bad reputation.[citation needed] Word of mouth and media exposure caused many motorists to detour around Ludowici.[5] A 1970 TIME article said that Ludowici was “one of the last remaining speed traps in the country.”[4] The traffic light was at an intersection that was bypassed by a shortcut (Main Street – see a local map) so that local residents would not even come to the light when making the turn at the light. Thus, all the tickets went to nonresidents without the police having to be selective since no locals would be at the light.

I was wondering how long it was going to take for someone to claim the ridiculous notion that conservative talk radio is to blame. And follow that up whining about ‘hate’. First of all, disagreeing with a political philosophy and those who espouse it is not ‘hate’ even if it is done for 3 or 4 hours every day and even if the host is frequently considered obnoxious. Secondly, the only reason that talk radio is so overwhelmingly conservative is because the so called mainstream media is so liberal.

If it’s Federal Proscecutors…………I wouldn’t really worry about it, considering their “affirmative action for tards’ program.
What a joke.
A former Justice Department lawyer, who publishes at PJ Tatler, has
obtained documents from the Justice Department detailing efforts to recruit attorneys and staff . . . who have “psychiatric disabilities” or “severe intellectual disabilities.” On May 31, 2012, Assistant Attorney General Tom Perez issued a directive to affirmatively recruit people with these “targeted disabilities.”
This DOJ policy does not merely involve prohibitions against discrimination, but rather the documents reveal deliberate recruitment efforts to hire as attorneys and staff for the Department of Justice people suffering from psychiatric disorders and intellectual disabilities. Moreover, applicants can “self-identify” their disability by means of the “Standard Form 256, Self Identification Disability.”
Those with “targeted disabilities” may be hired through a “non-competitive” appointment. That means they don’t have to endure the regular civil service competition among applicants, but can be plucked from the stack of resumes and hired immediately instead.
According to the documents, those with these “targeted disabilities” may be hired “before the position is advertised” and even “before the position’s closing date.” Moreover, lawyers with psychiatric disabilities and “severe intellectual” disabilities receive a waiver from the requirement that a new DOJ employee have practiced law for one year before being hired.

Mark, do you always argue with absurd comments trying to put words in the mouths of others? Seems to show the weakness of your commentary.
If you go back, I have clearly referenced extremists. However let’s remember that the speakers and candidates speaking at the RNC convention are suppose to be representative of the party and its platform. Are you telling me that Ryan and Romney are extremists? Newt? Trump?

No argument from me on the game being messed up by both sides. Just get tired of hearing the same old tripe everytime a nut case shows up. And since I am a conservative and lean somewhat to the tea party side of the GOP, I get tired of some people distorting things and calling me names, even when I take into consideration the source of the name calling.
________________________________________________________
I understand, and I agree about the name calling.
Some of the nastiest things one American can call another American have been over politics.
BOTH SIDES!!!!!
I spent yesterday at the hospital with a friend. She has 2 aneurisms and they are going to operate on her brain today.
When they lifeflighted her to Emory, I don’t think she asked the pilot if he/she was a “dummycrat or a repukelican”
When the nurses and doctors were treating and stabilizing her I doubt she wondered if they were going to vote for “Mittens RobMe or Obozo”.
When they take her into surgery this afternoon she won’t be thinking about “Mormon Underpants or Muslim Marxist”.
What she was/will be thinking about is that she will get the best care from fellow AMERICANS who take their jobs seriously and care about other people.
And you can bet your AZZ they will be libs and cons, repubs and dems, left, right and center. And they will take GREAT care of her.
You know why?
Because they care about HER and couldn’t give a flying F**K about her politics.

“So what happens to these 4 soldiers if they are illegal immigrants trying to get papers by serving in the military?”
HAHAHAHA! There is so much wrong with that statement I don’t know where to start. If an illegal immigrant can be admitted into the military with a fake social security card then we have a lot more important problems. If I’m an illegal immigrant that wants to stay in the US, then the last thing I’m going to do is take myself down to the Army recruiting office and fill out an application. If I’m an illegal immigrant that is thinking about staying in the US but not quite sure, then why would I want to risk my life for a country that detests me so much that they might not even give me a green card after I served?

Jay – I keep telling you that you just do not get the dangers lurking behind the second amendment crowd and what Scalia and the NRA have unleashed in their interpretation of that amendment. The gun toting crowd believe that they have a right to be heavily armed if the federal government takes away any of their rights and that they are the well regulated militia found in the amendment. All the white supremacists, xenophobes, Muslim haters etc. are ready to carry this to an extreme and look out if Obama gets reelected. Why do you think those Sikhs were killed.??? Same folks are volunteering for military training for their supposed day of reckoning. And they ain’t voting for Obama– thats for sure. I wasn’t aware that an employer hired an employee because he/she was disabled so much as if they were qualified to do the job and just happened to be disabled. The article mentions over 100K employees as a target. You might think that the government is in the business of giving away jobs to just anyone who shows up in a wheelchair but qualifications, ability to perform and background take the place of a disability any day.

I’m not the one with the knee-jerking issue. Anytime somebody mentions the ideology of the KKK, there’s an automatic knee jerk reaction to try to pin it on a political party in order to take the spotlight off the ideology. If that’s what helps you sleep at night as a modern-day conservative, who am I to rain on your parade? You seem to have more of a problem with it than I do.

The financing has been tracked down, at least. The founder and leader of the “militia” received an insurance settlement after the death of his wife. With this money, he could have spent 5 times the $87,000 and still had money left over. Whether the soldiers have any political leaning other than “anarchist” remains to be seen.

Probably determined that I didn’t have a concussion and that was the concern. Here’s hoping for a successful treatment and a speedy recovery.

I shake my head at the comments on this blog. I am ready to find a planet to which to move.
Jay suggests there is a POSSIBLE conspiracy among the members of the U.S. military (or recently separated) to take over military installations and assasinate the President and what is the result?
Why can’t we accept this is a POSSIBLE story that should be taken seriously by everyone? I think any conspiracy to attack government assets and the President or any other elected official (such as Giffords in AZ) is an affront to our democracy and our way of life. Why can’t we at least agree on that point?
95% of the postings today have nothing to do with the initial question around the possibility of this conspiracy. It devolved into Barry versus Magic Underwear. Is that the level of discource of which we are capable? Or is that the level of mentality ~ 2nd grade of those on this site?
Let’s raise the level of discourse to one of substance and meaning. I may rarely agree with those on the opposite side but I am going to treat them with respect (unless they are over the top).

Really? With four guys? Were they planning to do this all at one time or over an extended period? This is being left in the hands of the local prosecutors? The Army isn’t filing charges? Sounds like somebody in the prosecutors office is making stuff up or hoping more sticks.

Some plausible options, given the variability of human nature (pick one, and run with it):
- a love triangle with guns for windowdressing.
- some wild youngsters with big talk, exacerbated by FBI agents who had penetrated their club.
- a charismatic dude who is actually impotent, and all the guns are a proxy for… well, you know what. The takeover plans (with the guns) are just a proxy for… well, you know what.
- just the tip of the iceberg, this is a huge organization with members everywhere.
- a whole page of DSM V that didn’t get put in.

Makes me wonder what is happening the the Army. Over my eight years in, I have seen the discipline, honor and fidelity of the US Army take a shocking plummet. NCO’s are no longer allowed to maintain discipline, our Generals are more concerned about bowing to the Concerned Mothers of America than hammering our young soldiers into line.
This, massacres in Afghan villages and many other issues and problems are the end result. We need to take a good look at ourselves, slow down the promotion system and ensure that we are again promoting calm, competent, and professional individuals into leadership positions, and then give leaders back the tools to maintain discipline. I’m very anti-Obama, but this is disgusting and disgraceful to the Army. Stand them against a wall and shoot them.

This isn’t an isolated incident. Let a tea party supporter talk long enough and they will all mention taking matters into their own hands of Obama wins. Not alone but as a coordinated group that will require the rest of us to take sides. When desperate rich people embrace enemies of the state to cut their taxes something is really wrong.
