Earlier this month, the conservative base of the Republican Party went nuts, demanding the head of Romney spokesperson Andrea Saul. Why?
Because in discussing the fate of steelworkers laid off when Bain Capital closed their Missouri plant, Saul had had the audacity to note:
“To that point, you know, if people had been in Massachusetts under Governor Romney’s health care plan, they would have had health care. There are a lot of people losing their jobs and their health care in President Obama’s economy.”
Rush Limbaugh erupted. Erick Erickson suggested that Saul’s statement might be the moment in which Romney lost the campaign and the trust of conservatives. “Consider the scab picked, the wound opened, and the distrust trickling out again,” he wrote.
And Ann Coulter went on the Hannity show to fume:
“Anyone who donates to Mitt Romney — and I mean the big donors — ought to call Mitt Romney and say if Andrea Saul isn’t fired and off the campaign tomorrow, they are not giving another dime. Because it is not worth fighting for this man if this is the kind of spokesman he has to respond to this by citing health care in Massachusetts.”
Saul was not fired, and over the weekend, Romney himself told Fox News:
“I’m the guy who was able to get all the health care for all the women and men for my state. They were talking about it at the federal level. We actually did something, and we did it without cutting Medicare and without raising taxes.”
For the record, Romney did it without a state tax hike thanks to hundreds of millions of dollars in additional federal Medicaid subsidies for Massachusetts. In fact, a year ago the Beacon Hill Institute, a Massachusetts think tank, estimated that since 2006, the “federal government has spent an additional $2.418 billion on Medicaid for Massachusetts,” and that overall, “The state has been able to shift the majority of the costs to the federal government.”
But the larger point is, what are conservatives are going to do now? Demand a new nominee, on the eve of the GOP convention? What’s Rush going to say, just hours before the coronation begins? My guess is that he will say nothing. They’ll attack the young female spokesperson, but not the candidate himself.

It also once again betrays the fundamental emptiness at the core of the Romney campaign for president. He has shown himself willing to read any script given to him, and to try unconvincingly to spout the principles of others as if they were his own. The ability to lead implies the ability to first be yourself, and I see no sign of that in the man.
He does not merely bend in the wind, he is a veritable dandelion seed, carried lightly hither and yon on the slightest bit of breeze, landing we know not where. The Republicans see that about him, and fear it, even if they dare not acknowledge it.

In Romney’s defense, you can’t peg him with the dependence on Uncle Sugar since 2006. One can say he led the horse to the water, but he didn’t make the horse drink the entire lake.
That said, I’m kinda looking forward to Joe Isuzu’s acceptance speech. I’m sure it will be filled with grandeur vagueness and such. I’m just hoping for a semblance of a coherent plan with specifics.

Couple of other observations; jeb bush was trotted out this weekend, he really started the regression of the florida budget with many tax cuts tilted toward the wealthy, same old republican game plan. The people eventually catch on and ask what happened to all our services? He wants obama to stop blaming his brother, sorry but we just can’t forget he was there for eight years leading to economic calamity. Obama’s policies have failed? Errr…how’s about the do nothing congress we have, all they say is no and then have the gaul to criticize the stimulus, and gladly cash the checks (paul ryan,) It’s amazing to me that repubs could garner any middle class votes but the plain truth is once again their skill at messaging will make it close when it should be nowhere near it…

Additionally, the last poll I saw when I dug into the crosstabs still has Obama with a better favorable rating on Healthcare issues than Romney. If Obamacare is the albatross that the GOP thinks it is, then why do more Americans trust Obama on Health policy?
The answer, from this very experienced pollster, was that there were some things that people liked about Obamacare, like keeping “kids” on the plans ’til age 26 and that folks with pre-existing conditions can actually find coverage.
Romney should embrace those things, stop talking about Obamacare and stop listening to fly-by-nights like Erick Erikson. Talk about someone who hasn’t done anything in life but sit behind a laptop and whine.

Maybe Romney has a split personality. He takes credit for Massachusetts healthcare and later in the day he denounces it. He claims to be pro-choice then he claims to be pro-life. He’s an empty suit, thinking that taking off his tie and rolling up his sleeves to mimic a “common man” will help him politically. He’s a glossy white mannequin with plastic Ken doll hair and his handlers reprogram his message with the flip of a switch if polls show he’s being damaged; then if that doesn’t work, they flip a switch and he goes back. While he’s being erased like an etch a sketch, Paul Ryan’s eyes are darting around the room sizing up his chances of being cast as the male version of Marie Antoinette.

This election is, acc. to Jonathan Chait and others, one final go-for-broke attempt by the GOP to run the tables before their ticking demographic time bomb goes off.
Chait: ““This is the last time anyone will try to do this” – “this” being a near total reliance on white votes to win a presidential election.
It’s one of the most cynical, diabolical appeals to identity politics we’ve seen in American politics. Romney will try to present himself as the candidate who will return to 55 years olds and up their “stolen” tax subsidies taken through Obamacare in a thoroughly cynical ploy to divide demographic groups against others, all the while as his side whines that Obama wants to “divide” Americans against each other.

The Republican voter will turn aside, puke, and then vote for Romney anyway because of the absolute hatred for President Obama. They take very literally what one of the true leaders of the party said – Grover, and I’m paraphrasing – we only need someone with enough digits to sign all the laws the Republicans present to that person. They made it clear from the beginning that they would block any potential success for President Obama. There’s not a man alive who could overcome that crap. You missed it?
Let me repeat it then:
Mitt Romney:
“I’m the guy who was able to get all the health care for all the women and men for my state. They were talking about it at the federal level. We actually did something, and we did it without cutting Medicare and without raising taxes.”
+++
Obama replied that his plan was universal (a claim we rated Barely True ) and explained why he was against a mandate: “A mandate means that in some fashion, everybody will be forced to buy health insurance. … But I believe the problem is not that folks are trying to avoid getting health care. The problem is they can’t afford it. And that’s why my plan emphasizes lowering costs.”
“Hillary Clinton’s attacking, but what’s she not telling you about her health care plan? It forces everyone to buy insurance, even if you can’t afford it, and you pay a penalty if you don’t,” said one of his television ads .
What is interesting is up until 2008 Obama was against mandates along with Republicans. Up until 2012 he was against gay marriage just like Republicans. Now, if you disagree with him you are an extremist even though Obama was against these until recently.

First mistake Andrea Saul made is referring to Willard as former governor of Mass. That has become a taboo experience for discussion. .Let’s also not forget that Mass. has borrowed 8.5 billion in excess Medicaid from all of us to achieve universal care.Obamacare covers it. But the two Wanabees want to cut it. You won’t hear about that either from these jokers.
Credible information to believe the GOP is about to elect a serious tax dodger and of course a draft dodger who cannot mention one person in his entire extended family that served in the military. I guess Ryan’s love, Ayn Rand would be proud
Glad the hurricane and Todd Aiken have disrupted the GOP’s little party for second convention in a row. Heard they p[icked the hurricane state to pick up Florida swing votes. With the GOP’s voter suppression in full swing down there the numbskulls didn’t need to bother.

So, the claim is that Mitt was not in charge during the outsourcings, not that the outsourcings did not happen.
Yet, Mitt’s single tax return that he has been willing to share supports the claim that Mitt was indeed active at Bain as late as 2010:
But according to his 2010 tax return, when the Internal Revenue Service comes calling in April, Romney has a different answer: The presumptive GOP nominee reaps lucrative tax breaks for “active” participation in the private equity firm he founded, as well as a host of other investments.

Does it matter what Romney says? The Republicans have these off the radar lobbyist that hold all the power Grover Norquist is one of them. They don’t even know who funds this guy Norquiest yet he holds Romney’s every move in his hands. The Republican Party through Newt Gingrich types have cleverly learned how to control this country as a minority. Part of it is a iron fist control by the money over the party who then becomes out of control with the welfare of the citizens who foolishly elected them. If government is their enemy, we don’t even know the identity of our enemy that controls this group of radical and may control this country. What Newt and his kind have learned is most of this country is illiterate to the real facts and can be told anything irrelevant and be controlled by a group that has no interest in them. Let me have a half million dollar charge account at Sax’s drink champagne and get about as fat as one can get off rich living while I explain to you how the people from the middle class work ethic are your enemies. Mitt’s MA healthcare was a state issue. So, the Feds pay more to MA because of it. But Barrack’s answer is Federal Control, the nanny state, grow the Federal Government more, raid Medicare, underestimate the cost, ram the bill through Congress without one Republican vote.

There is no functional difference between RomneyCare and ObamaCare, JohnnyReb, and the feebleness of your attempted smokescreen confirms it.
Both are government-funded programs to extend health insurance to all citizens, using a government mandate to get people to buy insurance or face a fine and using government-run insurance exchanges. Both also include a panel of experts to recommend ways to lower government costs.
And you know it, which is part of what makes your attempted denial come across as almost sad.

The latest Barry ad has him accussing Romney of being “extreme.” It’s laughable. If there is an extremeist, it is Obama, his supporters, and party.
The Democratic party is itself a coalition of extremists. Take the objectives of the various factions. I will list a few.
Unions – are inheriently extreme. They push every issue to the extreme, then compromise to gain their original objective. They own a large part of manufacturing moving overseas. They have created pension obligations that cannot be paid. And, they are violent.
Environmentalists – the treehuggers are largely responsible for high energy costs which is holding down economic recovery. Have you looked at your electric bill lately? How about the cost of gasoline when you fill up? “Under my policies, electric bills will necessarily skyrocket.” Who stated that?
Gays – DADT went away, but that was not enough. Despite over thirty states voting to define marriage as between a man and a woman, the drive continues to have gay marriage. Since the beginning of mankind, marriage has been between a man and a woman. Changing that is extreme in any one’s book but theirs.
Nannies – these are either tied with or just below the Treehuggers in being the most dangerous to America. The above groups are included, but this category encompasses most all Democrats. They are Statists to the core who want to “fundamentaly” change America and the Constitution. Their extreme position is no personal responsibility; to have a guarantee someone will take care of them if they fail; and to transfer wealth from the successful. They are socialists.
Other than the above, they are loveable lot who fit right in with the rest of us.

The issues, my friends, the issues. You liberals can hoot and holler about old Mitt and his tax returns, his dog, how his health care plan is so similar to Bozo’s, his Mormon underwear, his wife not working, his wife’s $500 dollar shirt, Sandra Flucke’s BC pills, who’s going to show up in Tampa and who they are going to give speeches to……. it’s all fluff to anyway with half a brain. To quote a famous liberal, ‘It’s the economy stupid”. The only people who are gullible enough to bite on these fluff issues are going to vote for Bozo anyway. We have a projection by GAO of 8.7% unemployment well into next year. How many months will that make it?…… something like 55 or so? STRAIGHT!!! Growth at a monumental 1.5% and falling. It ain’t working, libs. It just ain’t working. And you and Bookman are just too damned ignorant to see it.

The only difference that I am aware of is one is run by the state and one is run by the Federal government. If you don’t like one you can move to another state if you don’t like the other you have to move to another country.

Obama used to enjoy a significant lead in Ohio according to polling data, but…
The closest Dispatch Poll in modern history shows the races for president and U.S. Senate in a dead heat in battleground Ohio.
For the record, Republican Mitt Romney holds a “lead” of 0.22 percentage point over President Barack Obama. That’s a mere 2 votes out of more than 1,730 cast for president in the mail poll.
By comparison, Sen. Sherrod Brown has a landslide going over GOP state Treasurer Josh Mandel with a margin of 0.87 point. That’s a whopping 15-ballot bulge.
The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 2.1 percentage points, so the takeaway is that the presidential matchup is tied at 45 percent and the Senate struggle at 44 percent among likely voters.

If I’m Romney, my retort to the ObamaCare/RomneyCare similarities is a moot point. My feeling is that what works for an individual state is not the same formula for the nation in toto. From an actuarial perspective from the insurers, this deal is gonna be like night of the living dead and keep screwing taxpayers for decades to come.
Here’s on example…I am all for coverage for pre-existing conditions no longer being excluded from policies. The problem is the cost. Say an insurer has to write a policy on formerly uninsured individual. The top premium the insurer can get is 12K per annum. The new insured has a pre-existing heart condition and needs a 850K heart transplant..math doesn’t work does it…who will pick up the delta?

That is precisely why, in both RomneyCare and ObamaCare, a mandate to purchase is included. Healthy people will pick up the cost, and then when they too become ill — as we all do eventually — they too will be covered.
Without the mandate, there is no way to cover the cost of pre-existing conditions other than creation of a single-payer system. That’s why the GOP has repeatedly refused to carry through on their “replace” promise, because they know there is no other way to do it.
They know because they came up with the mandate idea in the first place.

What a horrible rah-rah speech from the AJC Democrat cheerleader. And the cheerleader’s myrmidons carp along like pull-string dolls. Pathetic!
Just to get the picture straight, Massachusetts is a state comprised of liberals who depend on government handouts, government direction, and government rules. I was born there, but learned very early in life I couldn’t live there, based on the herd mentality much like California’s culture. For some strange reason Massachusetts likes to have Republican governors who seem to delight the legion of liberal voters. Funny how his character wasn’t assassinated by the Democrat establishment back then.
Mitt Romney ran a successful term of lowering the unemployment, shrinking the State’s budget, and giving the State’s entitlement seekers a huge plum. That plum was his signature on the legislature’s health proposal. It won’t work for the country, but it was a masterful stroke of the pen for a state that relishes liberal entitlements.
What’s wrong with the picture that Bookman paints today? It’s fairly simple to understand. Bookman is a liberal Democrat preaching to a liberal audience. Mitt Romney is a Republican running for POTUS. The Democrat nation is scared of Romney because he is the better choice of candidates, based on his credentials and his successes. Bookman, his liberal myrmidons, and the Democrat Party know that they have nothing to offer, other than a no-name failure, worse than Jimmy Carter.
The obvious picture they paint is a collage of childish distractions which never address the economic issues of the day. And, as we all know, those economic issues were created by their mismanagement. Yeah, let’s re-elect the same bunch for 4 more years of the same.

The fallacy in your argument is, well..let’s just say math is not one of your better subjects (no disrespect) the idea that this additional cost will be effectively spread amongst “healthy” insureds is obscenely naive. Insuring this 30 million under the traditional insurance model (pre existing conditions reimbursement is NOT insurance) and their above average pre-existing conditions exposure PLUS the not so insignificant pre existing exposure of currently insured will never be offset by government assistance or massive increases in current premiums for those currently insured…

Well, if you’re gonna lie, there’s no reason to do it half assed. You fail miserably with the fact that under Obama, deportations have set records year after year. If one is not enforcing immigration laws, that would not happen.
Then again, you and others b*tch and complain about Obama doing something, but you’ll advocate for Romney to do the very exact thing. It must really suck to have a gummi bear spined candidate to support for an election. You have to become a contortionist to support them.

Not exactly. The healthy ‘now’ people share the cost burden with the sick ‘now’ people. By broadening the pool of people paying in, the cost *per person* is held down to a bare minimum.
FWIW, most industrialized countries that have socialized health care also permit private add-on coverage. France is a good example; as much as 85% of the population has supplementary coverage that’s *not* government-provided.

My point here is that Bain portfolio companies did ship some jobs overseas to maximize shareholder value and keep US operations afloat in many instances but these “lost jobs”, which I submit is nowhere near what the rhetoric will suggest, pales in comparison to those…say of the tech industry…Example is APPLE who has shipped literally 100,000’s of jobs abroad in the past 20+ years…this combined with the fact that Steve Jobs paid ZERO taxes on his estate legally speaks volumes…he’s not running for president to be sure but he is an example of what it takes to compete in global economy..

The Saul woman should be fired. Yes, WE THE PEOPLE in the Tea Party KNOW that we will never forgive Gov. Romney for RomneyCare, but still, the Romney-Ryan ticket is a far better choice than what this current administration is doing to this once-free nation. Where’s the news about Bill Ayres, Rev. Wright, Father Pfleger, Fast and Furious, high taxe$, high regulation, expensive trips abroad, and all of the incompetence that we have been subjected to for almost four long years – which WILL become a blip in this once-free nation’s history.

And why are there no doctors 75 miles outside Atlanta, Stevie?
Could it be because so many of the residents there have no health insurance, and thus no ability to pay a doctor or hospital?
You’re not going to have decent medical care in those communities until there is a way to pay for it. Period.

Has anyone noticed that Romney’s VP pick has no business experience? Romney is predicating his entire value proposition on his purported business acumen. Here he comes to save the day! Yet, he picks as his running mate someone who has worked for the government pretty much straight out of college. What will happen to us if Ryan has to assume the presidency for some reason??? OMG! We will be at the mercy of someone with no business experience! ‘Cause, you know, only someone with business experience can run the country!

Yes, Stevie, we will honor those obligations because they are in fact obligations, and as one of the richest nations on the planet we have the means to honor those obligations.
The alternative is to deny retirement pay and medical coverage to millions of elderly Americans, just pushing them out into the cold without resources. Do you really think that’s going to happen in a nation as wealthy as this one?

I heard Romney’s plan for job creation is to create 12 million jobs during his first term. That amounts to adding 250,000 jobs per month for four years. I wonder if those will all be private sector U.S. jobs. Now, if only he could tell us how he plans to create all those jobs because even during the job growth boom during the Bush housing bubble, we only managed to eke out about 150,000 jobs per month in the private sector. I suspect Mitt must have some really powerful magic fairy dust or else he and Paul Ryan are just going to join forces and click their ruby red slippers together in unison.

Stevie Ray: “we are broke”
1. No, we’re not. The fact that our government is able to borrow money at record low interest rates substantiates that we’re not broke.
2. Stevie Ray doesn’t care about deficits. If he did, then he’d be advocating that we go back to the Clinton tax rates and eliminate corporate subsidies. He’s not.
3. Stevie Ray doesn’t care about deficits. If he did, he be advocating against repealing ObamaCare, since such a repeal would add to it. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/health-care-repeal-widen-deficit-109-billion-says-194408630.html
4. Stevie Ray doesn’t care about deficits. If he did, then he would have been railing against Medicare Part D while Bush was President–a program that is adding hundreds of billions to the deficit (unlike ObamaCare, which the CBO says will reduce the deficit).
5. Stevie Ray doesn’t care about deficits. If he did, then he wouldn’t vote for Romney/Ryan, both of whom have presented proposals that increase the deficits. They’re austerity plans for the poor and middle class are intended to finance tax cuts for the wealthy…not to reduce deficits.
The “deficits don’t matter” party isn’t fooling anybody with their “fiscal cliff” BS.

Compare the trend you’re talking about with the trend in union power and membership numbers. You will notice that unions have been in decline for the same time period you’re talking about. Unions represent 12% of the current workforce, and that’s including public sector workers too. So, you’re probably looking at maybe 5% of the private sector workforce as unionized. And you’re gonna blame that small segment for the issues at hand today?
I’m not saying that unions are blameless, so don’t even try to put those words in my mouth. The thing is, it takes two to tango, and unions were not the only dancers at the negotiation tables.

If you are suggesting that UNIONS have nothing to do with the trends in the last 20-35 years of inability to compete globally? We will agree to disagree on this..in private industry..
In 2011, the union membership rate–the percent of wage and salary workers who
were members of a union–was 11.8 percent, essentially unchanged from 11.9
percent in 2010, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The number
of wage and salary workers belonging to unions, at 14.8 million, also showed
little movement over the year. In 1983, the first year for which comparable union
data are available, the union membership rate was 20.1 percent and there were
17.7 million union workers.
[...]
Highlights from the 2011 data:
–Public-sector workers had a union membership rate (37.0 percent) more
than five times higher than that of private-sector workers (6.9
percent).
Union representation in this country has fallen dramatically since 1983.

Why hasn’t the Obama administration caught on to the standard operating procedure of Romney-the-omni-politician who is all things to everybody in fact and in principle. Provide universal health insurance in Massachusetts by federalizing the costs; make companies profitable by canceling pension funds and federalizing the costs; manage the Olympics by federalizing the deficits; then in situations that require a 90-degree turn…women’s rights issues, Planned Parenthood funding, free choice, etc.–just say, well, now that I am a candidate for President of the fanatical right-wing, Tea Party segment of the GOP, funded by Koch money, I have changed my mind to get your vote. Thats why many will no longer accept medicaid…you’d laugh as how much they get paid for services from this dry well…heck, nursing homes in most states only offer reimbursement less than 200$ per day..heck you can’t get a decent room for that much less get 3 meals, you arse wiped and the other needs…

My mistake. Your willingness to cut defense and raise taxes demonstrate some authentic concern on the topic. On the other hand, your false assertions that the Affordable Care Act will add to the deficits demonstrate the opposite.
If you truly care about the deficit, then you should get your facts straight about what reduces it and what increases it (repeal). In addition, you might observe that we balanced the budget in the nineties without spending cuts. Rather we balanced the budget with economic growth. So if you really care about deficits, then rather than following a European-style austerity plan (spending cuts causing higher unemployment causing lower revenues causing higher deficits), you should be advocating for programs specifically intended to put people back to work.

Obama is actually very much in the middle, the GOP with lots of carry from the Tea Party have maxed the right wing out and then some. So the middle looks like left to the misinformed or manipulators of the truth. It is like living in the world of ugly people and making average look beautiful, or buying a Volkswagen to make your house look larger, it is a distortion a lot of us want to be the truth so bad the perception becomes the reality. Minority rule is hidden in all of this, just like it was from the 60s back. Our democracy is in open conflict with hijackers who think they and only they can save a world, they broke in the first place. They have done what marching armies have failed to do, without a gun being fired, they have sold our democracy to the highest bidder, and we the properly being sold don’t even know who bought us.

One huge benefit of unions is their apprenticeship programs.
30 years ago the only way a southern youngster could learn to be a pipe fitter, electrician, or carpenter for Industrial construction was to work for one of the few big construction outfits in the south (Daniel or Brown and Root). They would get upfront training money from companies like P&G & Dupont for a big project.
That dried up 20 years ago, so there are not many avenues for a southern youngster to get into Industrial Construction.
Up north the unions are training youngsters like they have always done. I have worked all over the US and there is NO comparison between southern Industrial construction labor forces and northern Industrial labor forces. Give me 1 union trained union pipe fitter over 3 southern trained fitters.
If a southern youngster wants to get into Industrial Construction they have to move north.
Sad but, true.

JAY,
You continue to amaze with your “insight” into the world of healthcare and insurer rate setting. That average is skewed by the vastly higher numbers of metropolitan physicians…….many exburban or rural docs struggle to make a 100K…Your comparison is flawed because (1)the European docs get all their medical insurance and they are taxes to the hilt…they don’t have much in way of malpractice costs (including cost of unneccesary test et al in addition to premiums and self insured claims)….realize doc’s run a practice where they basically take expenses out the pay themselves what’s left…
This compensation issue and material shortage issue are at the heart of this…but perhaps more of an issue is that most doc’s want to take care of people..the imbalance in the system makes this difficult and they are stepping out or medicaid or going to concierge medicine..

The result of this crappy missive will be the historic (except for Medicare and SS) imbalance of premium to losses….taxpayers will get screwed.
I suggest you get your nose into some of the SEC filings of the major health insurers and look under “Risks and Uncertainties” Rate will explode and they are already advising that even the projected rate increases they will be allowed won’t be enough..

it be nice to hear Obama suggest why we should re-elect him
* Closed the prescription drug doughnut hole for seniors.
* Eliminated the risk for people with health insurance to run out of health insurance (and go bankrupt) by eliminating lifetime limits and caps.
* Prevents insurers from charging more or denying coverage for pre-existing conditions.
* No co-pays for check-ups and preventive care.
* Eliminated significant waste, fraud, abuse in Medicare…adding to its life while reducing deficits.
* Stopped the economy from losing 800,000 jobs per month, and saved or added millions of jobs.
* Brought the American auto industry back to life.
* Created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
* Appointed two good female justices to the Supreme Court
* Commander-in-chief responsible for finding and killing Osama bin Laden.
* Commander-in-chief responsible for decimating al Queda.
* Commander-in-chief responsible for the death of Moammar Gadhafi (by leading from behind).

Mitt Romney has no more moral core as a person than the ruthless, predatory capitalism he personifies.
That brings to mind something I read a while back:
USA, Inc.:
– Board of Directors – the 1%
– CEO – Whatever puppet we put in charge commonly called the “President of the USA”.
– CFO – Another puppet that has to have military defense companies in his back pocket in order to give out a couple of no bid contracts.
– Stockholders – China (since we owe them),Middle East, (Why else did we send thousands to die on their shores if they weren’t stockholders?)
Ukraine, Russia, and anyone else we can sell off pieces of America to.
– Workforce — China, India, Any poor 3rd world country in South America, Somalia, etc. As long as we can make a buck we don’t care.
– The American People – Patsies who foot the bill.

Sure, Stevie Ray, I’d be glad to do so: Medicare Part D.
As the Kaiser Family Foundation noted in May, citing the CBO:
“The cost of the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit has been of interest since the program was enacted into law as the centerpiece of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 (MMA). The most recent numbers show that actual net Part D spending has been about 30 percent lower than the initial projections made by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) in 2003 during legislative consideration of the MMA.”

I wonder if the ghost of New Orleans has taken offense to this charade and in some spiritual way unlocked a hurricane in memory of a low point in American history that won’t be mentioned in this convention hall. In some sort of strange only-Nixon-could-have-gone-to-China way, it could very well be that only Romney could bring us the single-payer national healthcare system that begs to be put into place. I agree, he keeps his real thoughts to himself, and that makes buying Romney like buying a pig-in-a-poke. Bad example..I think, correct me if i’m wrong that SS and Medicare where to be cost neutral at inception..look at them now…what do you suppose Medicare D will financially look like when recipients increase by 40% or so in coming years…Medicare D will be another unsustainable ponzi scheme like others and to boot, the incoming revenue will pale to benefits paid so we are looking at several trillion additional unfunded liabilty..
Bear in mind the reason they toss around numbers that suggests 85% of Medicare dollars go to claims payments is a flawed comparison to private insurers who are paying perhaps 65-70%…this is because insurers have to remain solvent as tested by ratios established by the states..(folks that work for your close personal freind DEAL)…in other words, insurer accounting has to balance assets and liabilities otherwise they lose license…the government can maintain unfunded liabilities til the end of time..

Who on earth can rely on SS projection in 25 years…the only certainty, like those opinions i provide, is that the number will be wrong…how wrong no one knows..the reason all these projections are for the most part bogus is that the data doesn’t take into effect the politics at hand.

But even though Mitt is a spineless willy-nilly when it comes to his politics, he’ll still have to govern as a “severe conservative” to avoid his base turning on him like they did over Andrea Saul. And as we know all too well, they are dictators, Jay, who care little to nothing about what the most of us want and care about the most for those we love.
Rather it’s all about the wealthy and giving them more and more money at the expense of the poor and middle class, and for what, jobs? Giving the wealthy more money doesn’t create jobs, it creates higher deficits; and probably the biggest reason they don’t want to talk about the Bush years, especially now, is that he proved this, as did Reagan, beyond a reasonable doubt!
And what’s the difference between Presidents Reagan and Bush? Reagan raised taxes 11 times to try and cover his gross mistakes, but the extreme-conservative Neocons, formed in reaction to what Reagan did, like Dick “deficits don’t matter” Cheney and Grover ”anti-tax pledge” Norquist, prevented Bush from raising taxes to try and cover his.
We the People know what works, Jay, and it’s empowering the middle class to become once again the primary economic engine of a flourishing capitalist economy, not continuing to feed the rich even more of what they do not need, like Mitt Romney would certainly be forced to do!

Rope A Dope definition: Rope-a-dope is a boxing strategy that involves taking hits repeatedly until the opponent is exhausted, and then taking advantage.
SIDENOTE: Rope a dope is said to have been one of the causes of Ali’s Parkinson’s disease.
There is nothing new in attacking Mitt Romney for his years at Bain or his uncaring mien. Mike Huckabee’s famous quip that voters would ultimately disdain Romney because he “looks like the guy that fired you” has become the essence of the Obama strategy to define Romney before the fall race begins.
The Romney campaign response to Democrat attacks seems to reflect either a lack of preparedness or a view that what happens now will not materially matter once the real race starts. It is simply inconceivable that the Romney camp did not anticipate the Bain attacks — after all, Romney has faced them before. Nor does it seem possible — despite Abby Huntsman’s suggestion that Romney would resign the campaign before releasing more tax returns — that the campaign does not ultimately plan to release all of Romney’s financial information. Therefore, one has to believe that we are watching a rope-a-dope strategy of letting the summer weeks go by, content to let Team Obama punch itself out.
But more than just violating his own political rule, by whining about attacks on Bain and outsourcing, Romney is missing an opportunity to take on the central issue that has been missing from this presidential race.
Mitt Romney had a front seat during this era of massive economic change. He sat in corporate boardrooms where decisions were made to reduce costs or otherwise seek strategic advantage. Reducing costs and seeking competitive advantage are part and parcel of corporate strategy in competitive markets. Companies do this, or they die. And seeing such companies survive rather than die was the work that Bain Capital specialized in. If Bain Capital advised its portfolio companies to outsource manufacturing or services — and it is inconceivable that it did not — this was not out of animus to workers, but just part of the job. That is the way it is in the real world.
And the way it is in the real world is what Mitt Romney and Barack Obama should be talking about. The American worker has been lied to for decades. Election year after election year, politicians pronounce the American worker the best in the world, as if this was meaningful. Rarely does a politician speak the truth: for decades now, American workers have been thrown to the wolves, first in the interest of Cold War foreign policy, and more recently in the interests of a political and corporate elites that profit mightily from globalization.

If the federal government had not stepped in, with “ObamaCare”, my wife and I would not have health insurance today. Georgia doesn’t give a lick about it’s people, anymore. We are one of the worst states in the nation when it comes to mortality rates, and those without insurance.
The federal high risk pool isn’t cheap by any stretch of the imagination ($600-$700 each), but we don’t fear losing our lives anymore from being formerly uninsurable, nor losing everything we have worked for, all our lives.
There are too many red states that have an Ayn Rand attitude when it comes to their caring for their neighbors. Leaving health care to the states would lead to unnecessary deaths in this country. Morality — “Those that don’t have an intelligent response resort to name calling.”
A quick review of your posts in this thread reveals that you frequently resort to same; ergo, you have no intelligent criticisms to make.
“Mindless Zombies for Obama have no logic.”
I will not cast my pearls before namecalling swine.
See that, everyone? “Morality” decries namecalling, yet eagerly engages in it. (laughing)

All of Obama’s “accomplishments” you listed are just more hand outs to buy your vote
His authorizing the killing of OBL was a handout for my vote? Wow! who knew? PS: Why didn’t Dubya do that too?

Experience is what you need in certain areas before you run for President. Foreign Policy for example
Oh so by your Own STATEMENT, how much “experience’ does Romney have? i mean be honest here a moment, the man almost got beeyootch slapped by the queen when he was in england for only a few days during the olympics! So, again, what’s Romney’s “experience” in foreign matters?
Heck you guys are too easy you take the fun out of this!

“NYTIMES..the ultimate in liberal rags no less… ”
The NY Times is the quintessentially slavish institution, absolutely prostrate to power, only outdone by its cousin the Washington Post.
The fact that the masses are deluded into thinking the NY Times is some sort of font of leftist radicalism is one of the crueler jokes for those of us in the know.
As Chris Hedges says, the NYT is virtually unparalleled in its slavish “subservience to authority and abject careerism”.
The NYT is “fear-ridden and oppressive place to work. The Times newsroom, like most corporate nerve centers, is a labyrinth of intrigue, gossip, back-biting, rumor, false piety, rampant ambition, betrayal and deception. Those who play this game well are repugnant.”
THAT is your ‘liberal’ bastion the New York Times.

Larry there is actually a lot of people exactly like you who vote the Republican ticket. In fact I can’t think of a state in America that needs to be Democrat more than Georgia. Our way of life is the millstone around our necks.
Mary Matalin mumbled something yesterday about how the red states have held up their economic responsibilities on one of those Sunday morning shows. I about dropped my cereal in my lap. Have you come to Georgia lately? If we have jobs it is because our bar of employment was not high to began with. Outside nuclear waste about everything goes here. And the quality of life employed or not is about the lowest in the country, in fact it is lower than many third world counties. What on this ,use to be, green earth can scare these terminally ill and lost people worse than what they suffer now?

Disability is the Obama welfare – tripled since Obama got in office. Lawyers on T.V. night and day trumpeting how it is your “right” to be on disability and for a small fee (25% of your check for the next two years) they can get you on disability. Another “right” endowed by the Zombie leader – Obama.

How odd that the Republican’s presidential candidate and platform are so pathetic that they won’t be able to unseat the current lame President, but will still win a mojority of the seats in Congress!
Here’s my summary of changes in our worst problems after 3 1/2 years of Obama.
Debt and deficits – significantly worse
Tens of trillions of unfunded entitlement programs – worse (see Obamacare)
Americans dying for nothing in the Middle East – better, but still happening
Unemployment – no progress
Illegal aliens – worse
Woe is us.

The only sector of the economy booming under the Obama Plan is Health Care. Listen carefully and try to comprehend. 2013 will be the year the Health Care “bubble” bursts because the gub’ment will send out that check but the banks won’t cover it for insufficient funds. Like Samuel L. Jackson said in “Ebony Magazine” I didn’t vote for Obama for no GD plan to save this country. Obama ain’t got no plan to save this country. I voted for Obama ‘ cause he’s black”. At least SLJ was honest.

Old people aren’t foolish. Most of them aren’t all that healthy, either.
Everyone should realize that if Republicans repeal “Obamacare” and Romney/Ryan went ahead with the voucher system than about 90% of Medicare eligible folks would be totally SCREWED!
Try going out at age 70 to buy yourself some health insurance with your stinking voucher. So you’ve got high blood pressure, prostate cancer, osteoporosis or heart disease. Sorry, that’s a pre-existing condition which WOULD have been covered under Obamacare, but no longer. We’re sorry, but your medications won’t be covered, either. And be happy because you didn’t have to go before any death panel to arrive at this sorry state.
I think we have to live with a fact about the GOP. The party cannot ever tell people, even their supporters, at least the ones that aren’t millionaires, what they will actually do if they have the chance. If they did, they would never elect another Republican to national office. They get away with it in some congressional districts – the ones gerrymandered to the point of idiocy. But, not with most Senate races and definitely not for President.
Consequently the GOP must lie, obfuscate and demonize the opponent to elect a President. We get lies about them wanting to preserve Medicare. They can’t tell the truth – they want to eliminate it, they always have. They can’t tell the truth about lowering taxes for the wealthy – it’s not about creating jobs, it’s about taking care of their big donors. They can’t tell the truth about global warming – they know it’s happening, they don’t care because any action to save the planet would hurt profits. They can’t tell the truth about spending – they are not against spending, they just want to spend on the military and their corporate sponsors. The can’t tell the truth about the size of government – they don’t want a small government, they want a government so big it can police every womb and ensure you only marry the “right” person.
To elect a President, Republicans have to lie because no one in their right mind would buy what they are actually selling.
And to the comment that their plan would only affect those under 55 (changed,as a “concession”), well, I’m under 55 (just) and after paying into the plan for the past 35 years, I object, and my parents are not that selfish to not object its effect on their children and grandchildren.

Gub’ment backed healthcare is just a giant Ponzi scheme. Gub’ment backed health care? Backed with what pray tell Jay? Haven’t you heard that the gub’ment is trillions in debt and getting deeper every day Obama’s in office? As long as Obama is in office you will get that check but it won’t cash at the bank. Bust goes the final health care “bubble”.

Moderate Line,
that he has released and the indication from it that he was an active investor as late as 2010.
I am not trying to make a rebuttal. I merely stated the facts. An independent analysis from Factcheck.org found the evidence that you point to be insufficent to prove the point.
We will need more physical evidence, in the form of many years of complete tax returns, in order to properly address that issue.
No matter how much evidence he tries it would never be enough. It is like the birth certificate issue no matter what Obama does the right will never be satisfied. Also, the burden of proof should be placed on the person make accusations not on the person having to prove his innocence. I thought the left believed in such things.
