Neil Armstrong, who took a giant leap for mankind

I was 12 years old at the time. As I recall it, Dad was away on TDY (temporary duty) in the Air Force, and my younger brother and sister were tucked in bed asleep. So Mom and I sat together in our darkened living room, watching on our little black-and-white television while Neil Armstrong made history.

Afterward, we went outside and looked up at the moon and marveled that human beings at that very moment were walking around up there. In a very strange time in our nation’s history, replete with assassinations and riots and turmoil, it served as a reminder that almost unimaginable feats could still be accomplished.

It was a moment that, sadly, cannot be explained to those who were not there to experience it, in large part because we cannot replicate the genuine sense of awe and wonder felt worldwide.

Rest in peace, Neil Armstrong.

Fred, “I feel your pain.” Am facing one of those ordeals in the next few weeks. I do not recall being restricted from white wine the last time I had to do this. My response is, “yeah, like that’s gonna’ happen.”. Good luck! I hope you will get the same diagnosis I did then: It’s a virus. My response, “Seriously? You put me thru this FOR A VIRUS?” I hope your’s is just a virus, too.

Well, it looks like we just spent 2+ pages discussing whether or not the New York Times is liberal/left leaning and whether or not Focked News is conservative/right leaning.

Bro’
Yes it is, but I declared myself an alcoholic a year ago this coming month. Been sober ever since.

I was a friendly, happy drunk, but I was still a drunk. Never wanted to talk about it before, but what the hell, Life in still good…boring, but good and I still have reasons to continue being sober.

The thing is…that sometimes…no, all the time it sucks giving things up because you are getting old. First cigarettes, then fried foods, then sugar, then alcohol…if I have to give up sex, just shoot me! But I told my doctor I would do everything he says up until I reached my 70th birthday…then EFF him and my last years are going to be happy ones!

It’s at the park by the Ridge Mansion downtown. It’s not that big, but it makes up for that with the diversity of what they bring in. While it’s a Cherokee event, they bring performers and artisans from all over including South and Central America. It’s worth checking out if for no other reason than to get a little of that “we’re still here” feeling. For us, though, the fun is gawking at the Indians gawking at the Indians!

Well, I just got done watching a 60 minutes repeat segment on Norquist. The problem with that guy is not that people shouldn’t pledge to do things but that he think one should always say never. I bet he thinks his marriage vows are for life. But I wonder if that would change were his wife to commit adultery one, two, or a dozen times. Even God Almighty is not bound by His promises under any and all circumstances.

Liberals are right about him – he has done a lot of harm to the GOP. Not because he opposes tax increases but because he apparently thinks the taxpayer pledge is the one pledge that should never be broken for any reason for all time. And I have already shown how he likely would not have the same attitude toward his marriage vows.

Towncrier

The problem I have with Norquist and his pledge is that there seems to be vapor lock in the brain of anybody who signs it. I can understand the idea of not raising taxes on people. At the same time, the very people signing to never raise taxes both want to increase military spending and complain about the amount of debt we’re adding. I can’t grasp how most every citizen doesn’t automatically see the disconnect between those two positions.

You can’t possibly cut enough from the fed budget to lower the debt while still wanting to increase defense spending. Anybody who thinks that is possible is seriously brain cell deficient. The fact that we have over $15 trillion in deficit that’s gaining interest means that we will have to address revenues if there is any attempt, serious or not, at lowering that debt.
