I was 12 years old at the time. As I recall it, Dad was away on TDY (temporary duty) in the Air Force, and my younger brother and sister were tucked in bed asleep. So Mom and I sat together in our darkened living room, watching on our little black-and-white television while Neil Armstrong made history.
Afterward, we went outside and looked up at the moon and marveled that human beings at that very moment were walking around up there. In a very strange time in our nation’s history, replete with assassinations and riots and turmoil, it served as a reminder that almost unimaginable feats could still be accomplished.
It was a moment that, sadly, cannot be explained to those who were not there to experience it, in large part because we cannot replicate the genuine sense of awe and wonder felt worldwide.
Rest in peace, Neil Armstrong.

The American spirit or any human spirit to me is an act of Godliness. To get off one’s couch for no other reason than to just do something no one has ever done before and to take a nation with him is one of those defining moments of inspiration that sticks to the bones of fellow Americans and the world. This country has that spirit it was built on it, you see it in the interest of the recent Olympics, the whole country right, left and in the middle pulling for fellow Americans in a event that has no higher result than the pure joy of competition. And for you dull of memory or not there at all, John F. Kennedy started this quest and because of his charisma we followed through. For people who think a flat lined personality can lead us back to these days or save an England from the Germans in World War II need to think again. It ain’t the jobs we are losing in this country it is the human individual spirit and we need it back.

Flat lined personality? Classic!!
Well, in his defense, he really, really tries to be like one of the “little people”. But it’s just so dang hard!! I mean its one thing to tell them to clean your houses for a pittance; but its quite another to actually have to touch them to shake their hands! Eeeeww!

And remember all the talk from Romney’s supporters whenever his involvement with Bain after 1999 was mentioned. “Oh No,” they proclaimed. Mitt had no active role at Bain during the time of those plant closures and outsourcings and destruction of lives for a buck. Now we find out from newly disclosed documents that some of the tax breaks he claimed in 2010 (the one tax return Mitt has released a part of) were only allowable for active investors, not passive. More lies from Mitt. Maybe Mitt should have refused to release even one return.
Release those tax returns, Mitt. Show us what you’ve MadeOff with over the years.

I think the reason Mitt won`t release his taxes is that he has not given the Mormon Church their 10%.

i change my “name” quite often on blogs; i find it intereting how some people react to a name with precoceived ideas of whom is posting. For instance — sometimes I call myself Bluto The Blue Boy — it’s just a shout out to all those Popeye cartoons or I may call myself J. Wellington Wimpy (my favorite — another shout out to Popeye); it’s amazing how everyone assumes that I’m male.
If I call myself “I Like Ike” – people assume I’m a republican, not because of anything i do or don’t post, but because I put “Ike’ in the name.
The blogs/cyberspace/blogging/posting – is really the greatest social experiment of all time. People feel free to assume things just by a name, without actually going any deeper than that.
Its like when Cynthia Tucker had a blog — no matter what she wrote, no matter if she even AGREED with the right; there were cons on the blog who screeched at her for being a lib, who called her every filthy name they could get away with; and who never ONCE read a word she had to say. Just because it came from her, it was automatically denounced. Very interesting.
Also, I’d like to add, i can’t change my URL nor do i change my email address; so Jay or Colin, or whomever know who I am and I guess as long as I don’t have arguments and/or agreements with myself, (like that poor unfortunate mentally unhinged woman in North Georgia), nor do i try to “out” any other blogger, all is well.

Anti-Obama voters will bend themselves into pretzels to justify this. When it is no different from what the financial system has done – to them, to the country. Elective cognitive dissonance. That fact is extremely disturbing to me. Blind allegiance to a rich, indifferent man just to get the black man out.

More good stuff from Huffington:
“The New York Times has reported that after Bain bought the toy company in 2000, KB Toys filed for bankruptcy, laying off more than 3,000 workers. Bain’s aggressive financial maneuvering, however, scored a 370 percent return on its investment.”
This is something that should be highlighted as well. Romney did not build his business without government assistance. Last time I checked, bankruptcy was going to the government and asking them to forgive some, or all, of one’s debt owed to another person or corporation.
Romney knows that these issues are complex and over the head of the average voter.
Most of the claims involving Romney’s tax shenanigans cannot be distilled into a 25-word Hollywood pitch with a copy of a return with a big red circle around it.
This one could stick but unless there’s a headline “Romney paid 2% in taxes in 2009!”, it is very hard to explain what is often arcane or technical language.
“Romney’s foreign income was high based on his foreign tax credit carry-forwards”
Not really going to fly.
And if you over-simplify it, Romney replies that it’s handled by his accountants and he doesn’t understand it either.

Unfortunately I have such a sick, twisted sense of humor:
Every outbreak has a patient zero.
Porn actor Mr. Marcus has come out and identified himself as the performer responsible for the current syphilis outbreak that has shut down production in the San Fernando Valley.
“I tried to cover it up… Because I said it was like the scarlet letter. It’s the word. Syphilis, whoa,” Marcus said to XBiz. “Mr. Marcus, syphilis? Mr. Marcus, the one I worked with? The one that everybody works with? The one that’s been in this industry forever?”
As many as nine syphilis cases have been identified among porn performers, and more are expected, according to the Associated Press. Marcus said that the three women he performed with after his diagnosis have all tested negative for syphilis.
The porn moratorium comes days after the California Department of Public Health released a report finding that syphilis cases in the Golden State have jumped by 18 percent from 2010 to 2011.
Whats so funny about this you may ask? Well, THIS for one….:
Los Angeles County officials have approved a ballot initiative that will ask voters to decide whether porn actors should be required to wear condoms in sex scenes
OMG!! I’d LOVE to hear the debates about this ^^ in the local townhalls! Imagine, mom and pop debating on whether porn actors should wear condons right alongside deciding on whether to fund the yearly City wide picnic!!
In honor of the “Great Porn Moratorium of 2012″ — I’ll be adding Mr. Marcus to my various aliases!

Q: What do republicans do after successfully getting Obama to abdicate because his “real birth certificate” was found in Kenya?
A: They turn over and go back to sleep — it was all a dream.

Q: What can the Romney’s do the better their chances of winning over a general populace in order to secure the Presidency?

In his final column for the Times, Brisbane wrote that his fellow staffers “share a kind of political and cultural progressivism” that “virtually bleeds through the fabric of The Times.” Brisbane even argued that Times reporters approached some liberal issues, like gay marriage and the Occupy movement, “more like causes than news subjects.”
“Keywords: final column. Don’t suppose he’s a mite upset they didn’t want his services for an optional 3rd year…..? tip: Not the best source of info, someone who’s just been let go from a job.”

Here’s another for the road – As seen on the web [paraphrased for politics]:
Republican Party, USA:
No Bid Contracts, No viable way to pay for 2 wars, No “exist strategy” from said wars = No one says a word;
Obama wants to save the Auto Industry = all Hell breaks loose.
Jeb Bush: It's Time For Obama 'To Move On' From Blaming George W. Bush
August 26th, 2012
1:19 pm
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) said Sunday that it’s time for President Barack Obama to stop blaming his brother, former President George W. Bush, for the country’s economic troubles and accept responsibility.
“I think it is time for him to move on,” he told host David Gregory on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “I mean — look, the guy was dealt a difficult hand, no question about it. But he’s had three years. His policies have failed, and rather than blame others — which I know we were taught that that was kind of unbecoming over time — you just can’t keep doing that. Maybe offer some fresh new solutions to the problems that we face.”
Bush added he doesn’t expect that to “happen between now and election day.”
He later talked about his family’s legacy in the Republican Party, including both his father George H.W. Bush and brother’s presidencies and his own time as governor.

“Please don’t be angry, but the part of the article i quoted had nothing at all to do with people disrobing in public. Unless you were reading the article with your super, duper, extra loopier, reading glasses on – i just can’t see where you’ve gotten that interpretation from.”
It was a simple extrapolation. Porn stars are, in fact, disrobing in public – albeit for a limited (adult) public. Please provide all of us with a compelling argument from historical documents that such behavior was envisioned by those who drafted and ratified the Constitution when they incorporated the phrase “free speech”. Nothing new here folks …………. keep moving along:
“The executive editor of the New York Times is disputing an accusation of liberal bias made by her very own public editor, Arthur Brisbane”. (Of course she would)
In his final column for the Times, Brisbane wrote that his fellow staffers “share a kind of political and cultural progressivism” that “virtually bleeds through the fabric of The Times.” Brisbane even argued that Times reporters approached some liberal issues, like gay marriage and the Occupy movement, “more like causes than news subjects.”

that should be “exit” however “exist” does have a ring to it…
also honorable mention goes out to “Not caring wher Bin Laden is or how to stop him” — Not one republican outcry.
Obama orders BinLaden assasination – Republicans claim he’s spiking the ball and taking the credit away from the Navy Seals.

Good move !!
“Crime-ridden Camden, New Jersey – often referred to as the most dangerous city in the United States—is getting rid of its police department.
In the latest example of a cash-strapped municipality taking drastic measures to deal with swollen public sector liabilities and shrinking budgets, the city plans to disband its 460-member police department and replace it with a non-union “Metro Division” of the Camden County Police. Backers of the plan say it will save millions of dollars for taxpayers while ensuring public safety, but police unions say it is simply a way to get out of collective bargaining with the men and women in blue.”

“Obama orders Bin Laden assasination…”
Well, I give him credit for that. First, because it was very surprising to me given his position regarding those being held in Guantamano Bay – that they deserved due process. He basically decided to execute Bin Laden without a trial. Secondly, it was not small matter to invade the space of a sovereign nation to accomplish the mission – especially one as big as Pakistan. Thirdly, thanks for acknowledging that he ordered the hit, not actually carried it out.

“From where? Left field?”
Madge, has it ever occurred to you that you should probably stick to accounting?
“WTF? They’re on a MOVIE set!! Did you have this same stance when John Wayne took off his shirt in Rio Lobo? Did you go batty then too?”
Because you are an accountant, you probably have never heard a phrase like “the reading PUBLIC” (that pertains a book or article written written in private but read at large). Nor do you understand that doing something publicly does not necessarily mean you are in the same place or time as your audience. That’s why you probably imagine that if I, all alone in my office, posted something like “the president must be killed” on my Facebook page, I should and would encounter no restrictions on that exercise of “free speech.”
My point (which I suspect everyone but you gets) is this: pornography should NOT be protected from laws that prohibit it because it is NOT speech and therefore NOT protected by the Constitution.
“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?? Are you insane? What have you been drinking today? ”
Wow. So this is an example of a liberal being so off kilter in her thinking that she is unable to comprehend the gist of a conservative’s post (where everyone else can – you know, put two and two together). It is SO far from such a one’s comprehension that maybe, just maybe, pornography is NOT a good thing and is NOT really “speech” that she utterly cannot fathom an argument against it.

Well, I understand why you theoretically shouldn’t have any absolute morals, JamVet – you’re an atheist. What I don’t understand is why you actually seem to. You are so full of judgement of others that it’s amusing given the fact that, in the end, everything is inconsequential in a godless world. You will return to dust in just a relatively short time and in 100 years nothing you have said or done will be remembered by anyone else. Indeed, the world may not last another 100 years and all of mankind may be annihilated. Then (if you are right), we will have been like idiots strutting about on a stage, full of sound and fury but signifying nothing. But, hey, go ahead and watch Debbie Does Dallas for the thousandth time.
