If you’ve ever tried to read an Ayn Rand novel — and Michael Kinsley clearly has — you’ll get a kick out of Kinsley’s piece in which he re-imagines Paul Ryan as the central figure in one of Rand’s “masterpieces”.
An introductory snippet:
“(Ryan) flexed his muscles, the result of hours spent in the House gymnasium. Look at these pathetic specimens, he thought. Not one of them could do a one-armed push-up if his life depended on it. Not one was worthy of so much as cosponsoring one of Ryan’s bills. Every single one of them had been elected by appealing to the average citizen in his (or her — Ryan snorted at the thought) district. It occurred to him, and not for the first time, that of all the men and women in this room, only he, Paul Ryan, had been selected for his current office by the president himself.
The president. Ryan’s mind wandered as he thought about the only man who stood between him and absolute power. Mitt Romney was a weakling, Ryan thought — and not for the first time. He’s a man whose views can change. The thought filled Ryan with disgust. His own views were as solid as granite. They were the views of the only clear-thinking woman he had ever met: Ayn Rand.”
And while I’m at it, you also MIGHT enjoy this piece by Kevin Williamson of National Review, written in tongue-in-cheek celebration of the macho powers of Mitt Romney. At least I hope it was written tongue-in-cheek.
Because otherwise ….
You want off-the-charts status? Check out the curriculum vitae of one Willard M. Romney: $200 million in the bank (and a hell of a lot more if he didn’t give so much away), apex alpha executive, CEO, chairman of the board, governor, bishop, boss of everything he’s ever touched. Son of the same, father of more. It is a curious scientific fact (explained in evolutionary biology by the Trivers-Willard hypothesis — Willard, notice) that high-status animals tend to have more male offspring than female offspring, which holds true across many species, from red deer to mink to Homo sap. The offspring of rich families are statistically biased in favor of sons — the children of the general population are 51 percent male and 49 percent female, but the children of the Forbes billionaire list are 60 percent male. Have a gander at that Romney family picture: five sons, zero daughters. Romney has 18 grandchildren, and they exceed a 2:1 ratio of grandsons to granddaughters (13:5). When they go to church at their summer-vacation home, the Romney clan makes up a third of the congregation. He is basically a tribal chieftain.
Professor Obama? Two daughters. May as well give the guy a cardigan. And fallopian tubes.
From an evolutionary point of view, Mitt Romney should get 100 percent of the female vote. All of it. He should get Michelle Obama’s vote. You can insert your own Mormon polygamy joke here, but the ladies do tend to flock to successful executives and entrepreneurs. Saleh al-Rajhi, billionaire banker, left behind 61 children when he cashed out last year. We don’t do harems here, of course, but Romney is exactly the kind of guy who in another time and place would have the option of maintaining one. He’s a boss.
Read. Enjoy. Discuss.

Of course, the reimagining of Paul Ryan overlooks the plain fact that he has been elected to represent a district for the past 14 years.
I think “the lighter side” is all liberals have left to make their case. Nibble the fringes.
As for K. Williamson, it is a black mark against NR that they still retain his services. I think I’d rather Kyle Wingfeld were there. At least with KW, you don’t get the pretentiousness everyone seems to have at NR, whether or not they are any good.

Good stuff. The GOP is imploding, so it looks like four more years of this financial ugliness will continue. We should all turn to the final chapter of Atlas Shrugged to see our course of action. It looks like some of the wealthy are already “withdrawing” the way she predicted.

More humor from the lamestream media:
“”"”"”"“”””””””””””Mitt Romney has had a tough couple of weeks on the campaign trail — and it shows in the latest Fox News poll. After a barrage of campaign ads, negative news coverage of his overseas trip and ongoing talk about his tax returns, Romney’s favorable rating and standing in the trial ballot have declined. As a result, President Obama has opened his biggest lead since Romney became the presumptive Republican nominee.
The president would take 49 percent of the vote compared to Romney’s 40 percent in a head-to-head matchup if the election were held today, the poll found. Last month, Obama had a four percentage-point edge of 45 percent to 41 percent. This marks the second time this year the president has had a lead outside the poll’s margin of sampling error.””””””””””””

You became a liberal because you couldn’t live with yourself otherwise? Did you know that top ten states that donate most to charity are red states, and the bottom ten are blue states? This has been proven in study after study, even by researchers who admittedly EXPECTED the opposite result. Even self-fulfilling prophecy isn’t enough to change the results. You won’t hear about it on the nightly news, though. It doesn’t fit their narrative…..

It reminds me of a story. I do not know if you have read it. A young lad stopped by while I was working in the yard. He said, when I grow up I want to be President and give all the homeless a new home. His parents beamed with pride[they were liberal democrats]. I said, why wait, go to work and clean up my yard and I will give you $50.00 and you can go down to the corner and give it to a homeless guy and he can start saving for a new home. The boy replied, “why can’t he come over and work for the money.” I said, “welcome to the Republican party.”

I agreed with you on that about conservatives and giving…poor people do, too…Mississippi, highly religious, the most conservative and the poorest state of the 50, has citizens who donate the highest percentage of their income to charitable causes of the 50
On the other hand, as I said, the Yids highly secular, fairly well fixed financially, and probably the group most wedded to liberalism in the country are top of the heap in charitable giving,
It’s a weak argument to promote”Liberals are generous…. with other people’s money,” just the same as liberals who claim that conservatives don’t care about other people…it just doesn’t hold up either…

to Independent thinker at 5:58 PM — yes it’s true that the last Fox News poll you reference had Obama ahead 49% – 40%. But that’s now old news. A new Fox News poll was released at 6 PM tonight and it now shows Romney ahead 45% – 44%. The new poll is now just among likely voters. Obama is in a lot of trouble. The dishonest liberal msm may still pull it out for Obama as they have an unmatched ability to control the narrative by focusing attention on anything negative regarding Republicans and ignoring or minimizing anything negative about Obama and Democrats . Nonetheless, the election is trending away from Obama. It’s Romney’s election to win. If he’s able to make a connection with his convention speech and then during the 3 debates, Obama will be toast. Those are the 4 opportunities Romney will have to talk directly to large swaths of the electorate unfiltered by the liberal msm.

The portrait of Romney is interesting and rather accurate. And possibly why so many are trying to discredit him. He may/may not make a good president and we may/may not ever find out. But no amount of political ‘narrative’ revisions can change his CV. And it does make a stark contrast to Pres Obama’s. Pres Obama is cool, metrosexual, aloof, a hipster kind of guy. You might want to hit the clubs with him, but you don’t think of the portrayal above when thinking of him.
The truly funny thing is that the Ayn Rand piece is that it fits Obama’s political ‘narrative’ must better than Paul Ryan’s. I guess Michael Kinsley was getting such a kick out his re-imagination, that he failed to see the irony.

Views of the political parties have soured. For the first time at this point in at least six elections, voters are inclined to see both the Republican and Democratic parties unfavorably.
Obama gets more blame for negative attacks than he did in 2008. Then, 30% accused him of attacking his Republican opponent unfairly; now 44% do. In contrast, 40% say Romney is attacking Obama unfairly, compared with 48% who said that of McCain four years ago.
In 2008, 25% said both candidates would make good presidents. Now, just 12% do

Seems like most every election since the 70s has focused on the economy….. a subject that the left is unwilling to confront. If people are employed, making money, enjoying the fruits of their labor, they seem to vote for the person that is making that happen. As much as the left is trying to dodge that bullet, the voters know and will not forget that in the voting booth. Bozo has failed….. miserably. And anyone with a single synapse in their brain knows this. He was not cut out to be a president. Yup. That’s why we need to get back to the old system, where we sock it to the currently insured to pay for the people who don’t have health insurance. And let’s allow insurance companies to cancel the policies of people who get sick and maybe establish a pretty low lifetime cap on benefits. Insurance companies are people too, my friend. As for “pathetic specimens” I rather believe that Obama is the most likely candidate to to have said that characterization–his comment “clinging to their guns and religion” sounds so much alike.
As for the most “pathetic specimen” in the race, well, that goes to Joe Biden.

And how long do you think that Hospitals will be able to absorb being “fined” if they admit sick patients on medicare or medicaid twice in one month because of Obamacare? The answer? Not long. This is just another one of those nasty details that Pelosi alluded to that would be found out after the bill was passed. Get used to this. Obamacare hasn’t even started in its nastiness and won’t come into full bloom until 2014 (unless repealed or redone). The old will be the first to be sacrificed under this piece of garbage. Innovation in medical technology will now be stymied because of its severe taxes on medical devices. The medicare cuts will be felt immediately in 2014 and even with all of this, the cost of medical care will continue to rise beyond sustainable limits. Another words, Obamacare was an ill conceived and hastily passed piece of garbage legilstation and the Democrats for years to come will not be able to hide from their support of it. Of course Pelosi, Obama and Reid will be living in luxury not having to live under the rules of the act and they will be laughing at all of you fools that supported it.

A Simple Man,
The GOP is imploding??? Really? You’re falling for the big media lie of the month.
The media would have you believe that a racist (GOP) dog-catcher or a congressman from Missouri is the harbinger revelation of a national trend. If you want to take that at face value, fine. That’s your business.
But remember, we have a coercive federal government, exploding debt, the potential for runaway inflation, rising energy prices, rising healthcare prices, rising food prices, the growing potential for “stagflation”, an increasingly hostile Middle East, a chest-thumping Iran, a growing number of American cities declaring bankruptcy, 8% unemployment, triple that if you include the underemployed and long-term unemployed.
I think the American people, given the issues, will show enough smarts, if only by a thin margin, to focus on at least one or two of these issues that Obama has made much worse and thereby realize that he needs to be doing something else in 2013 besides trying to ruin the country.

LIGHT WEIGHTS
People who lie a lot also tend to whine a lot, particularly when their prevarications are exposed. As a presidential candidate, MYTH ROBME gives the impression of never having been in a fair fight. He’s remarkably thin-skinned for somebody in public life.
Everybody expects politicians to embellish the truth, but Romney’s epic misrepresentations continue to astonish.
************************************************************
From the moment that Rep. Todd Akin shared his outrageous opinion on “legitimate rape,” Democrats have eagerly tried to connect the Missouri senate candidate to his congressional colleague, RYAN. It’s not a particularly hard case to make, considering that Ryan has co-sponsored 38 anti-abortion measures during his time in the House, including joint efforts with Akin to ban federal funding for any abortion that wasn’t caused by “forcible rape.” In fact, Ryan has a higher lifetime voting score from the National Right to Life Committee than Akin does.
Sensing his vulnerability on the issue, RYAN attempted to distance himself from Akin.

I posted the below on Kyle’s board this afternoon and not one lib wanted to dispute it. I know some of you have to be braver to take on the below:
LIBERALS:
Fact: After we (The USA) used all the money we collected in taxes this year we were still $1.1 trillion short.
Fact: The top 10% of taxpayers in this country only made $1.3 trillion dollars last year.
Fact: If the Bush/Obama tax cuts for the top 1% are repealed then it will only bring in $80 billion dollars per year or two weeks of Federal government spending.

Its simple if you like bought and paid for Politicians who take from you and give to those who are wealthy, vote Republican. If you like a political party that has to suppress the vote to get elected, like they do in places like Syria, where they have a Dictatorship, then vote Republican. If you like a political party that has to lie, cheat, fabricate to get elected to a public office, then vote Republican. If you like a Presidential Candidate that avoids paying Taxes by hiding his money offshore, then vote for that Republican. If you like Politician’s who started a War on Women, by taking their rights away, then vote Republican. If you like the two Political Candidates, Romney/Ryan who will destroy Medicare as we know it, then vote for them, they’re Republicans. If you do not like the Affordable Care Act that has helped Millions upon Millions of American citizens, then Vote Republican. If you are happy with Politicians that want to throw Granny off the cliff, then vote Republican. If your Happy with this 112th congress, who has done nothing for 3+years except obstruct everything President Obama has tried to do, plus take Rights away from Women, then vote Republican. If you are a Woman and you like your Politicians telling you what you can and cannot do with your body, then vote Republican. If you like your Politicians owing to Wall Street and their Corporate Masters, then vote Republican. If you like your Politicians leaning Religious tootie fruity and Right Wing Extremist, then vote for Republicans.

One thing to remember about Ayn Rand was the fact that she was Russian. With the Czars, Russia was very much a top down society. As westerners, our democratic traditions go back at least as far as the Magna Charta. It’s really hard for me to understand why so many of our fellow Americans buy into this nonsense of society owing it’s existence to a select group of elites, fully deserving the lions share of what the society produces, while generously allowing the rest of us to bask in the glory of their radiance. Give us a break.
As for this nonsense about our wealthy benefactors leaving us because we didn’t appreciate them, or were too stupid to understand the true depth of their genius, Isn’t that what they did when the Titanic went down. The first class passengers were given access to the life boats while the riff raff were locked in the lower levels. A good con man always stays one step ahead of the suckers.
however, If you really enjoy reading bizarre works of fantasy, why stop with Atlas Shrugged? Why don’t you check out the Book of Mormon.

The sadness is that Mormons have had most, if not all, of their powers of critical thinking taken away, transferring them to the local religious authorities. In this respect they are not much different than the strictest forms of Islam, Catholicism, Unification Church or what ever form of cult that uses the same techniques to create the illusion of a “heaven on earth is us” approach. When leaders are given the authority to tell you what God says, be prepared for a long Dark Age of Spiritual enterprise. The good news is that the enterprise of making money will not be a problem.

Mick – you are correct. However, it is very apparent, not only on this blog, but within the elite of the Left that they only find political humor when disparaging the Right.

The way I see it, bookman it a very clever columnist. People like me agree with him pretty much across the board which is kind of cool to find someone to read with similar perspective. People that hate his columns and come here to denounce and argue with him is fine too. Nice to get the other side but some just get too carried away with it. I certainly don’t go over to kyle’s to cause a ruckus just because I disagree with most of his analysis…

A shining testament ladies and gentlemen to the hypocrisy of the Left.
They cringe and point if you tell a Polack or Amos and Andy joke, but when it suits their purpose Political Correctness is thrown aside to get a “kick” out of belittling the next President and Vice President.

Class ‘98 “You became a liberal because you couldn’t live with yourself otherwise? Did you know that top ten states that donate most to charity are red states, and the bottom ten are blue states?”
Yeah, you guys are real princes. Conservatives are known for: Cutting school lunch programs. Cutting education. Cutting unemployment benefits. Cutting preventive care initiatives. Cutting Pell grants. Obstructing bills and allowing student loan interest rates to double. Cut Medicaid to children. Cut Medicaid to the remaining poor. Promised to repeal Obamacare, which is the only way people with pre-exisitng conditions can get healthcare. Promised to cut Medicare, making it a voucher system. And…all the while….cut taxes on the wealthiest. Yeah, you conservatives are real givers. We are forever in your debt.

Somebody explain to the bigoted 2, that countries don’t love people.
Or that religions don’t love people.
Or that corporations don’t love people.
People love people.
But then he would have to actually indict individual people instead of countries or religions.
Which would require some intellectual honesty and moral courage…

It is like Republican candidates watch the film, study their weaknesses and then try to perfect themselves to a non human standard. The problem with these guys are they are not real, too much makeup, like a too cheery sorority girl. It is not the rich part as much as it is the Bush awkwardness, the trying too hard to please, or as John Kennedy said of Richard Nixon it takes a lot more energy to remember who you are trying to be each day, than just waking up being yourself. American greatness comes from its grassroots. Teddy Roosevelt went to be a cowboy in the Dakota territory before he ran for president. It changed his life, his view on the world and his personality. Bain ain’t going to get this man where he needs to be, or a gentleman farmer or ranger, he needs to go to bed with dirty hands and not notice it, never going to happen.
