Two quick peeks at the lighter side of politics

If you’ve ever tried to read an Ayn Rand novel — and Michael Kinsley clearly has — you’ll get a kick out of Kinsley’s piece in which he re-imagines Paul Ryan as the central figure in one of Rand’s “masterpieces”.

An introductory snippet:

“(Ryan) flexed his muscles, the result of hours spent in the House gymnasium. Look at these pathetic specimens, he thought. Not one of them could do a one-armed push-up if his life depended on it. Not one was worthy of so much as cosponsoring one of Ryan’s bills. Every single one of them had been elected by appealing to the average citizen in his (or her — Ryan snorted at the thought) district. It occurred to him, and not for the first time, that of all the men and women in this room, only he, Paul Ryan, had been selected for his current office by the president himself.

The president. Ryan’s mind wandered as he thought about the only man who stood between him and absolute power. Mitt Romney was a weakling, Ryan thought — and not for the first time. He’s a man whose views can change. The thought filled Ryan with disgust. His own views were as solid as granite. They were the views of the only clear-thinking woman he had ever met: Ayn Rand.”

And while I’m at it, you also MIGHT enjoy this piece by Kevin Williamson of National Review, written in tongue-in-cheek celebration of the macho powers of Mitt Romney. At least I hope it was written tongue-in-cheek.

Because otherwise ….

You want off-the-charts status? Check out the curriculum vitae of one Willard M. Romney: $200 million in the bank (and a hell of a lot more if he didn’t give so much away), apex alpha executive, CEO, chairman of the board, governor, bishop, boss of everything he’s ever touched. Son of the same, father of more. It is a curious scientific fact (explained in evolutionary biology by the Trivers-Willard hypothesis — Willard, notice) that high-status animals tend to have more male offspring than female offspring, which holds true across many species, from red deer to mink to Homo sap. The offspring of rich families are statistically biased in favor of sons — the children of the general population are 51 percent male and 49 percent female, but the children of the Forbes billionaire list are 60 percent male. Have a gander at that Romney family picture: five sons, zero daughters. Romney has 18 grandchildren, and they exceed a 2:1 ratio of grandsons to granddaughters (13:5). When they go to church at their summer-vacation home, the Romney clan makes up a third of the congregation. He is basically a tribal chieftain.

Professor Obama? Two daughters. May as well give the guy a cardigan. And fallopian tubes.

From an evolutionary point of view, Mitt Romney should get 100 percent of the female vote. All of it. He should get Michelle Obama’s vote. You can insert your own Mormon polygamy joke here, but the ladies do tend to flock to successful executives and entrepreneurs. Saleh al-Rajhi, billionaire banker, left behind 61 children when he cashed out last year. We don’t do harems here, of course, but Romney is exactly the kind of guy who in another time and place would have the option of maintaining one. He’s a boss.

Read. Enjoy. Discuss.

I posted the below on Kyle’s board this afternoon and not one lib wanted to dispute it. I know some of you have to be braver to take on the below:

LIBERALS:

Fact: After we (The USA) used all the money we collected in taxes this year we were still $1.1 trillion short.

Fact: The top 10% of taxpayers in this country only made $1.3 trillion dollars last year.

Fact: If the Bush/Obama tax cuts for the top 1% are repealed then it will only bring in $80 billion dollars per year or two weeks of Federal government spending.

Where is the H3LL is the rest of the money going to come from?

Its simple if you like bought and paid for Politicians who take from you and give to those who are wealthy, vote Republican. If you like a political party that has to suppress the vote to get elected, like they do in places like Syria, where they have a Dictatorship, then vote Republican. If you like a political party that has to lie, cheat, fabricate to get elected to a public office, then vote Republican. If you like a Presidential Candidate that avoids paying Taxes by hiding his money offshore, then vote for that Republican. If you like Politician’s who started a War on Women, by taking their rights away, then vote Republican. If you like the two Political Candidates, Romney/Ryan who will destroy Medicare as we know it, then vote for them, they’re Republicans. If you do not like the Affordable Care Act that has helped Millions upon Millions of American citizens, then Vote Republican. If you are happy with Politicians that want to throw Granny off the cliff, then vote Republican. If your Happy with this 112th congress, who has done nothing for 3+years except obstruct everything President Obama has tried to do, plus take Rights away from Women, then vote Republican. If you are a Woman and you like your Politicians telling you what you can and cannot do with your body, then vote Republican. If you like your Politicians owing to Wall Street and their Corporate Masters, then vote Republican. If you like your Politicians leaning Religious tootie fruity and Right Wing Extremist, then vote for Republicans.
These are not all by any means of the Republican antic’s we’ve seen and are seeing, but some of the most outlandish ones. Get registered and Happy Voting.

One thing to remember about Ayn Rand was the fact that she was Russian. With the Czars, Russia was very much a top down society. As westerners, our democratic traditions go back at least as far as the Magna Charta. It’s really hard for me to understand why so many of our fellow Americans buy into this nonsense of society owing it’s existence to a select group of elites, fully deserving the lions share of what the society produces, while generously allowing the rest of us to bask in the glory of their radiance. Give us a break.

As for this nonsense about our wealthy benefactors leaving us because we didn’t appreciate them, or were too stupid to understand the true depth of their genius, Isn’t that what they did when the Titanic went down. The first class passengers were given access to the life boats while the riff raff were locked in the lower levels. A good con man always stays one step ahead of the suckers.

however, If you really enjoy reading bizarre works of fantasy, why stop with Atlas Shrugged? Why don’t you check out the Book of Mormon.

The sadness is that Mormons have had most, if not all, of their powers of critical thinking taken away, transferring them to the local religious authorities. In this respect they are not much different than the strictest forms of Islam, Catholicism, Unification Church or what ever form of cult that uses the same techniques to create the illusion of a “heaven on earth is us” approach. When leaders are given the authority to tell you what God says, be prepared for a long Dark Age of Spiritual enterprise. The good news is that the enterprise of making money will not be a problem.

C. 98 — “Yeah, I’ll keep in mind how mature liberals are when I watch Stewart and Colbert tonight.”

I look forward to you taking your tough-guy act on the road by enlisting with either the US Army or US Marine Corps.

It is like Republican candidates watch the film, study their weaknesses and then try to perfect themselves to a non human standard. The problem with these guys are they are not real, too much makeup, like a too cheery sorority girl. It is not the rich part as much as it is the Bush awkwardness, the trying too hard to please, or as John Kennedy said of Richard Nixon it takes a lot more energy to remember who you are trying to be each day, than just waking up being yourself. American greatness comes from its grassroots. Teddy Roosevelt went to be a cowboy in the Dakota territory before he ran for president. It changed his life, his view on the world and his personality. Bain ain’t going to get this man where he needs to be, or a gentleman farmer or ranger, he needs to go to bed with dirty hands and not notice it, never going to happen.

I guess my point is, you can CHOOSE to learn how to shoot a gun for $9.00 an hour or learn how to screw 2 pieces of pipe together for $100 and hour.
We are in the same foxhole.

“Where is the H3LL is the rest of the money going to come from?”

So this means what, exactly? That since we don’t have a comprehensive solution, we simply don’t need to make any effort at all?

If nothing else you citizen’s united and the ensuing super PAC’s should show you that the “job creators” aren’t interested in your pain, they only want to create ONE job, and they’ll expect quite a lot in return for their billions.

Duh. See previous comment.

Nothing like charging $250k to build a $20k building because it’s in Afghanistan. We know all those engineers in the military are incapable of doing those jobs at 1/3 the salary and 1/10 the cost.

Ayn Rand would not have written something like those two Kinsley paragraphs. But it’s supposed to be a joke, so maybe we shouldn’t make a big deal of it.

There is a mature way to appreciate Ayn Rand. Too bad some people never progressed beyond the 14 year old level.

To what extent is Mitt Romney a man whose views can change, and to what extent is he a politician whose statements can change?
