One controversial ad by an Obama SuperPAC encapsulates so much that makes the 2012 presidential campaign distinctive:
– In its specifics, the ad is deceptive and brutally unfair. It suggests that by closing a Missouri steel plant and stripping its workers of health insurance, Mitt Romney and Bain Capital were in part responsible for the subsequent death of a worker’s wife by cancer. It’s the kind of gut-wrenching charge that — if made at all — at least ought to be strongly backed by facts. Instead, the implication that Romney is to blame is barely plausible at best, given the timelines involved. Those who condemn the ad as irresponsible are correct in that assessment.
– However, in a Citizens United world, in which quasi-independent groups raise and spend vast amounts of campaign cash, this type of ad will become more and more familiar. Candidates can claim to have no knowledge of or control over such advertisements, and thus no responsibility for it. The rich donors who paid for the ad are often anonymous, meaning they too cannot be held responsible. And if no one is responsible, irresponsibility results. This is not rocket science, even if the geniuses on the Supreme Court are unable to grasp it.
– Accuracy aside, the underlying theme of the ad is powerful and emotionally resonant. Outside predators such as Mitt Romney and Bain Capital can perform a useful function in a capitalist economy. They come into a company and make ruthless, heartless decisions without regard to the human cost, decisions that those with a longer history or commitment to the company perhaps cannot bring themselves to make. Over the long haul, in a macro-economic sense, that can be useful. But one of the primary questions of the 2012 race is whether the American people will be comfortable putting a person with that mentality and background in the Oval Office.
– Appearing on Fox News Wednesday, Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul denounced the ad in question as deceptive and unfair. However, she also noted that if the steelworkers in question had been working in Massachusetts instead of Missouri, their health coverage would have been protected by the health-insurance program created by Romney, a program that later served as the direct model for ObamaCare:
“To that point, you know, if people had been in Massachusetts under Governor Romney’s health care plan, they would have had health care,” Saul said. “There are a lot of people losing their jobs and their health care in President Obama’s economy.”
While Saul’s observation was valid, it caused a huge outrage among conservatives, with many calling for Saul’s firing for the outrageous act of actually telling the truth. Es ist verboten on the right to acknowledge even the existence of RomneyCare during this campaign, let alone that it actually might serve a useful function.
That brings us back once again to the central question of the 2012 campaign: If we are to live in an Bain-type economy in which brutish efficiency is the primary goal and the human impact is not to be considered in decision-making, what steps if any should government take to protect individual Americans from the worst vagaries of that process?
In an era of increasingly no-holds-barred capitalism, do we also slash unemployment insurance, job training, Medicaid benefits, Social Security and ObamaCare, so that individuals are even more fully exposed to the cruel caprices of free enterprise? Or do such programs become even more important in an era in which jobs, companies and indeed entire industries can disappear quickly?

Peadawg: From earlier: Obama isn’t upset that the military get three extra days to vote. He is filing against the law in Ohio that restricts early voting, when it was previously available to everyone 3 days before the election, is now ONLY available to active duty military AT POLLING PLACES. In other words, these active duty military have to be on Ohio soil living in Ohio districts while being active. Also, Veterans, reservists, etc do not get this same ability – their early voting privileges were taken away. None of this applies to mail in ballots either from within state or from overseas military.

Here is the truth as it is known. The worker was laid off 7 years before his wife was diagnosed with cancer. The worker was offered a cash buy out when he was laid off. The wife had health insurance. The worker obtained another job working for a school system where health insurance that would have covered his wife was offered. The worker refused the health insurance. Romney was not at Bain Capital when any of the above took place. The worker is a paid campaign worker for Obama and has made several campaign ads for Obama. The worker was captured on tape during a conference call with officials of the Obama white house which is now dishonestly claiming they didn’t know about the false, malicious slime throwing ad. The Obama campaign, a year ago, established a strategy of destroying Romney’s character because they cannot talk about the Obama acomplishments as president because there are none. This lie is part of that campaign of disinformation and character assasination. Had the worker’s wfe been covered by Obamacare, the death panel would probably have refused her treatment based on the plan’s cost vs. probability of success odds. Most likely, knowing the normal speed of a government agency, the panel would probably not have gotten around to authorizing her treatment in the twenty two days she lived after the cancer was discovered. The real shame is that Democrats are unable to face the fact that Obama is disperate, will exagerate and lie at evry oppotrunity. The man has no character.

Liberals are under the mistaken assumption that corporations exist for the sole reason to provide jobs for unemployed and to serve as some sort welfare system for those who are employed. Poorly managed companies do not make it in the real world. Bain Capital was not in the business of providing some kind of nirvana for those companies that it took over. If they are not making money, there is no reason for them to exist. That’s the way business works. That harsh reality is hard to accept but reality often is.

I guess I am more afraid of a “United Corporate States of America”, and I am of anything else in this world. Corporations do not base their business decisions on national concerns nor the concerns of their people. Bottom line is their goal and their God.
Mitt Romney represents a greater danger to the America I fought for, bled for and believe in than any Middle eastern group or nation could ever hope to be. I do not want to lose my rights to the Bottom Line of corporations. I certainly do not want to lose our ability to help those who needs it. Corporations are NOT people and Mitt Romney is NOT the answer for America.

Romney’s time as governor would give hope that’s not the direction he’d take as an elected official; however, the question is, has that Romney been eclipsed by the candidate we now see? If the answer is “I don’t know” then the next question is “do we want to gamble on what we now see?”

I heard about the above ad this morning on the news. I had not seen it until now. I watched it twice. I am an Obama supporter but I tried to look at this objectively. The republicans are saying the gentleman in this ad was blaming Romney for his wife’s death. I don’t agree. I do know most woman will suffer through pain at all cost when there is no health insurance. Anybody who has been in that position knows that. Heck, even if you have it you wait until you HAVE to go to the doctor, but woman will take their kids and husbands before going themselves. Very unfortunate situation, but I see this ad as an example of what Bain did, and continues to do. They make money but at what cost. So if elected, at what cost do we the people pay for Romney? I hope this ad will at least bring up the conversation that needs to take place.

PD, about military voting? Please read this.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/story/2012-08-07/fact-check-obama-ohio-military-voting/56859922/1
Conservative blogs and opinion pieces have also misrepresentedthe case, claiming in headlines that President Obama was suing to “restrict military voting.” A fundraising email appeal from a group called Special Operations Speaks — which wants to “remove Barack Obama from the White House” — wrongly says that Obama “deploys army of lawyers to suppress military’s voting rights,” claiming that “Obama needs the American military to not vote, so he has set out to make it as difficult as possible for them to do so.” But that’s not what the Obama lawsuit aims to do at all.
The lawsuit, filed by the Obama campaign, Democratic National Committee and Ohio Democratic Party in July against Ohio’s secretary of state and attorney general, asks for an injunction to block implementation of state laws that modified in-person early voting regulations. In the last presidential election, all Ohio residents — military and otherwise — could cast their votes in-person early up through the Monday before Election Day. But contentious legislation passed by Ohio’s GOP-controlled Legislature in 2011 limited early voting for nonmilitary residents, giving them a deadline of 6 p.m. Friday before the election. Military members and overseas civilians could still vote through Monday. Both parties have squabbled, with Democrats saying the law is a suppression of nonmilitary votes and Republicans arguing that they are just easing a burden on polling places and guarding against fraud. (Mail-in absentee ballots are not affected; the new regulations affect in-person early voting.)
Contrary to conservative claims, the Democratic lawsuit seeks to restore early voting “for all Ohio voters.”
You still want to call this a “hissy fit”? I hope not.

When you Jay express your thought on the SCOTUS ruling (granted, as most people do) your political beliefs are used to determine if the ruling was just/unjust thus an attempt to void the non-political establishment that is supposed to be a bedrock of the republic known as the USA.

As the coffers of political action committees overflow with election swaying dollars, many Americans continue to point accusatory fingers at the Supreme Court. But the “Citizens United” ruling is no more to blame for the continued corruption of electoral politics than Madison Avenue is to blame for America’s massive consumer debt.
America is the land of the free, but unfortunately, freedom and intelligence are often mutually exclusive. The housing crisis didn’t just happen because of banks’ predatory lending; it happened because millions of Americans were such foolish prey. The average American doesn’t carry over $10,000 in credit card debt because of emergency expenses incurred after losing his job; he carries the debt because the house he couldn’t afford to begin with wouldn’t have been complete without the HDTV and new furniture. When given the freedom to make important decisions, the half of Americans with below average intelligence will consistently make below average choices.
If you need less anecdotal proof of America’s intellectual shortcomings, take the National Assessment of Adult Literacy’s 2003 study which found that 43% of Americans cannot successfully “perform moderately challenging literacy activities.” This failure to make sense of moderately challenging literature is indicative of our country’s real political problem: many Americans cannot comprehend moderately challenging civic issues. If 43% of the electorate cannot form policy opinions based on the latest articles and literature by experts in their respective fields, they are destined to bite at the baited lines of thirty-second television ads funded by super PACs.
The current lack of civic aptitude among Americans is further evidenced by simpleminded folks taking hold of far-fetched, yet elementary ideas they can understand, like “Romney hates dogs,” or “Obama is a foreigner.” Prodigal super PACs are now free to exploit this kind of logical deficiency, but only because the masses are too dim to inform themselves—not because five justices decided to make a mockery of The Constitution’s first amendment.
If the television ads and other media propaganda of super PACs are enough to persuade would-be voters, then it is not the court system that has failed; it is the educational system and society as a whole that is culpable.
It is not the Supreme Court’s job to protect Americans from their own ignorance.

” Poorly managed companies do not make it in the real world”
Perhaps you can tell us, based on your decades of experience, what management practices and funding mechanisms exist in the Department of Defense to make it a stellarly-managed ‘company’ whose business practices would allow it to thrive in the private sector?
You can begin with their health care business model. It’s an easy one. (hint: take total obligations for DoD health care divided by number of participants, then apply that number to, say, a company of your choosing or to the US as a whole).

Joe, 10:33,
Government regulation does not a profit make. You can regulate a company or a corporation until the moon turns blue and it does not ensure that the company will stay in business. And if a company fails, all of those benefits go up in smoke. That is unless you are like Government Motors where the unions vote themselves what they want because they own the controlling stock. The harsh reality is that if a company fails for any reason, that “general public” that you rail on about is a non starter. It won’t matter.

A couple of points about Bain. Bain largely bought troubled companies at discounted prices who had potential value if the problems could be turned around. No company turned around troubled companies better than Bain and Romney was a brilliant and visionary CEO of that company. Romney’s reputation as a uniquely talented problem-solver and turn-around artist was why he was turned to when severe problems arose with the 2002 Winter Olympics. Don’t know if those exceptional talents would translate into the presidency as I think Romney is a political stiff. Regardless, the truth is that Romney and Bain saved a heck of a lot more jobs than were lost. As well, Bain under Romney operated during a time when the U.S. economy was functioning on all cylinders. That means that in most cases, those who lost jobs could very easily find other jobs, a heck of lot easier than today after Obama’s policies have been in place for near 4 years.
The corrupt liberal msm, in clear conjunction with the Obama Campaign, has helped perpetuate the following 2 narratives. First, the economic problems of today are Bush’s fault. Then when that got tiring and started to lose traction, the narrative shifted to today’s economic problems being the fault of evil “predators” such as Bain and Romney. Obama is responsible for nothing. Just unbelievable dishonesty, but straight out of the Saul Alinsky playbook.

“1. There’s a well-established relationship between a nation’s prosperity and the lifespan of its people (see Figures 1 and 2 in my 1992 article in the Journal of Regulation and Social Cost).
2. Obama’s policies have dampened growth in the United States (according to data from the Congressional Budget Office and the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank, actual GDP (in today’s dollars) is $836.6 billion below potential GDP).
3. Based on these two simple facts, we can conclude that the foregone growth is causing needless premature deaths.”

K71 — “Government regulation does not a profit make.”
And the point goes WHOOSHing right over your head.
“You can regulate a company or a corporation until the moon turns blue and it does not ensure that the company will stay in business.”
Exactly my point. If corporations are going to f**k employees and say ‘well, that’s just business,’ then prepare for their employees to elect representatives who will change the way business is done.
“And if a company fails, all of those benefits go up in smoke.”
Given the corporate-driven cutbacks in employee benefits over the last 20 years, you can spare me this line of argument. It’s a sure loser for your argument.
“That is unless you are like Government Motors where the unions vote themselves what they want because they own the controlling stock. The harsh reality is that if a company fails for any reason, that “general public” that you rail on about is a non starter. It won’t matter.”
If a company screws its employees in order to get ahead, eventually the employees (read: the public) will figure it out and push back. You’re beginning to see this, post-2008. Business interests ignore this reality at their peril.

I saw the ad, and it is a highly decpetive if you choose to dissect it that way. People however are so dense that they don’t see the larger issue, and I think it was puposefully done to underscore the point. Opponents of the POTUS would love to throw this on Obama like hot grits, but the truth of the matter is, this came from a “SUPERPAC”! This is the VERY thing that Obama stood up in his first State of The Union and warned the American people about what the Supreme Court did in ruling the way it did in the Citizen’s United case. He told all of us that money was going to flood the system from “anonymous” sources to inlfuence (and basically BUY) elections of the future, no matter the cost (in cold hard cash ot trufh). But noooo.. his detractors only sought to mutter “not true” (Alito), and scream “you lie!”

I want you to seriously examine the amount of Mitt Romney signage you see around your area. Now, compare that to the number of McCain/Palin from 2008. The contrast is stunning, IMO, but feel free to disagree with that.
There isn’t a soul that is excited about Mitt Romney (which, how could you be…) and Republicans know it. I disagree with the gist of this article. There is a direct human impact from the greed that pervades the decisions made by companies in the name of MORE MORE MORE for the wealthy and to heck with the workers. How direct the link has to be before a degree of responsibility can be assigned is highly debatable. The debate cannot take place in a short TV ad. What the point is is that by a focus on number instead of taking into account the human impact of the obsession with MONEY, there are negative consequences for those who lose jobs and benefits. Could health insurance and getting medical care have helped this one person – who really knows. Buy I can assure you that that families income and protection is WAZY more important than the fat cats millions. The culture of greed that has pervaded the US since at least REAGAN IS responsible. Is Mitt Romney the best or evn nearly the best to lead a nation that is comprised of real people – I think not.

to Alex at 10:39 Am — With regard to the so-called “swiftboating” of John Kerry in 2004: President Bush never did anything but praise Kerry for his Vietnam Service. Bush was quite generous with his praise. Contrary to the dishonest narrative created by the liberal msm, The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth were not a Republican Party group nor part of the Bush Campaign. That group was comprised of Vietnam Vets of various political party affiliations who had one thing in common. They could not stand John Kerry and didn’t think Kerry had been honest in the past regarding the Vietnam War and they didn’t think he was fit to be president. The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth were people who lent their own names to their cause and made the charges under their own names. Every one of them faught in Vietnam and many were decorated veterans as well. People can decide for themselves whether they think the various charges they made about Kerry were true or not, such as them accusing Kerry of lying about being beyond Cambodian lines on Christmas Eve of 1968, or about them questioning whether Kerry deserved his medals.

Welcome ot the Occupation writes: Mark in Mid-town: “Regardless, the truth is that Romney and Bain saved a heck of a lot more jobs than were lost”
Got any stats on that rosy claim?
——————————————————————–
It’s not possible to come up with such stats. But let’s apply a little common sense. Romney ran Bain during a period of incredible job growth and low unemployment in the United States. Bain’s great skill was in fixing troubled companies who were floundering or failing but that had inherent underlying value if their problems could be fixed. In other words, companies that would have gone under ended up being saved by Romney and Bain. While plenty of jobs ended up being lost, plenty of others which would have been lost if not for Bain ended up being saved. Investers made tons of money. Those gains ended up creating capital that could then be used to make other investments which helped the economy grow further in the aggregate. Additional new jobs were then created in the aggregate in these other areas. Again, the economy and job creation was firing on all cylinders during the time Romney was running Bain. It’s beyond silly to believe that Bain during the time Romney ran it caused more jobs in the aggregate to be lost than created or saved.

You drank the Kool Ade! More lies by Obama! He claims to have created 4 million jobs. As of this A.M. there are 330 thousand fewer people employed in the United States than when Obama took office, so any jobs “he” created were replacement jobs that “he” lost. As far as the auto indusrty jobs he claims to have saved, his actions caused more job losses than Bani Capital ever lost. More than a thousand dealerships were closed and tens of thousands of those jobs were lost just to mentioned a few. Manwhile, GM continues to lose money(our money) hand over fist. The actual cost to we taxpayers will never be repaid, and was a gift of our money the the U.A.W. union and Chrysler was given to Fiat. I challenge anyone to look at the ad cited where mortage foreclosures continue at record rates (see todays news), the national debt has been more than doubled, the unemployment rate remains above 8% 3.7 yaers after Obama took office. There are no signs of economic recovery and the Obama quotes of him warning that we should not expect things to get better are well known in spite of the lies in the ad.

If people understood how Romney profited on the misery of others there’d be crowds with torches and pitchforks outside his house. You don’t need to be a Democrat to find what he did disgusting. Gingrich (one of the worst people ever elected to office) called it “Predatory Capitalism”. He gutted companies, paid himself off with borrowed money to the point that the companies he bought were forced to declare bankruptcy and then stuck US with the company’s pension obligations. And he did this more than once. A genuinely horrifying man.
And how does the media respond? Much like Jay here: it gets the vapors over a campaign ad.

Mighty Righty: As of this A.M. there are 330 thousand fewer people employed in the United States than when Obama took office,
Incorrect. That’s since ALL of January’s numbers were in. And here are more facts for you to digest on this issue:
The jobs report indicates that 163,000 new jobs were added in July, with 9,000 lost in the public sector, 172,000 gained in private. The change for May was revised upward from 77k to 87k new jobs, but June was revised downward from 80k to 64k.
Total Jobs in January 2009: 133,561,000
Total Jobs in February 2009 (first full month after Obama takes office): 132,837,000
Total Private Jobs in January
2009: 110,985,000
Total Private Jobs in February 2009 (first full month after Obama takes office): 110,260,000
Total Jobs for July 2009: 133,245,000
Total Private Jobs for July 2009: 111,317,000
Total Jobs Change since January 2009: -316,000
Total PRIVATE Jobs Change since January 2009: +332,000
Total Jobs Change since February 2009 (first full month after Obama takes office): +408,000
Total PRIVATE Jobs Change since February 2009 (first full month after Obama takes office): +1,057,000 (that’s 1 MILLION new private jobs since Obama’s first full month in office)
Let’s see what happens if I hold Obama responsible for an average number of jobs lost since day 1 in office. January 20, 2009. There are 31 days in January, and we are now assuming Obama is responsible for 11 of those days.
11/31*818,000 total jobs lost = 290,258 (rounding to 291,000)
11/31*839,000 private jobs lost = 297,709 (rounding to 298,000)
From the starting point using an average responsibility for January 2009, we subtract these numbers from the ones I noted as change from February:
Total jobs difference since January 20, 2009: +117,000
Total PRIVATE jobs difference since January 20,2009: +759,000

-New housing is up
-GDP is growing, not shrinking

The reality is that Romney’s company Bain Capital is part of a system that often consolidates losing businesses to save some jobs while others are lost. It is important to realize that without them even more jobs might be lost. (One can argue that Bain’s fees are excessive, but that is not my point.) My point is that we as a capitalist nation, and the richest nation in the world, ought to provide a safety net for the fallout of capitalism. The Saftey Net ought to include healthcare for all, reeducation programs for those that lose jobs, and a minimum standard of living.
One only need look at the unbelievable number of large homes and mansions across this country to realize that rich people would find a 2% tax increase to be “No Big Deal”. Can they really be that greedy that they want a tax decrease?

The one issue I have with this ad is how the banking crisis and stimulus destroyed many more jobs and businesses than Bain did. Those jobs were lost not to improve the business or provide a better product or service at a better value to the customer or public.
The president received very large campaign contributions from Goldman Sachs and Wallt Street in 2008. Societe Generale, the French Bank, and Goldman Sachs received the most money from the AIG bailout; however, more importantly, the government raised the capital requirement on the banks, which is the ratio of cash or government bonds on hand to the loans outstanding. The banks couldn’t get cash in such a short period because borrowing adds cash and liabilities, so the banks canceled loans. There was political pressure to not foreclose on mortgage bonds so they canceled business loans. The banks increased lending to the Federal government by $700B and decreased loans to businesses by $500B, since leading to the government is the same as cash. Nice trick if you are the borrower. My father had his revolving line of credit canceled. His customers canceled orders because they didn’t think the business would survive. He couldn’t sell the business so it went bankrupt, and he lost his entire life savings. He had to sell his house for the amount outstanding on the mortgage because housing prices went down. All the people who worked for him, the majority of which were minorities, lost their jobs, health insurance, etc. Although, the presidents changed, the priorities remained the same, which is why the economy has been so poor. It was really disappointing that the financial regulation was named after someone who took bribes from Countrywide, which was the bank that stole from investors and their poor customers in California. Both the health care bill and the stimulous bill were poorly designed. They should have spent the time to design them right. If the government didn’t force these business out of business there would be less need to cover the unemployed and uninsured. I am so disappointed both by the performance and by the propaganda and mud. If I go to a hotel and get bad service, I don’t want to hear about how every other hotel is horrible. If I hear that, I think I will keep trying new hotels until I find a descent one.

Jay, I worked for a family owned company that was steadily losing market share over a period of years. The owner held on to employees he knew were a drag on the company. Eventually, he sold the company and the new CEO came in and cleaned house. There were hard decisions that had to be made but today that company is thriving and has since added more employees than were employed there before the acquistion. This is what happens sometimes in business Jay. Some businesses thrive and some fail. To sit around feeling sorry for oneself is a waste of time.

It is tough to run as Candidate Romney when your signature piece of legislation at state level is ruining the state quickly (read scary article in WSJ a couple days ago and you see our future, if anyone really wants to be a doctor) . Real spending on education down 15% in last 10 years, real road spending down 23% in same time frame, and Gubmint spending on health care up from 21% of budget to 52% in ten years. Ouch. And now the state will dictate HOW doctors operate their practices. Shucks, that’s not rationing at all.

“Outside predators such as Mitt Romney and Bain Capital can perform a useful function in a capitalist economy. They come into a company and make ruthless, heartless decisions without regard to the human cost, decisions that those with a longer history or commitment to the company perhaps cannot bring themselves to make.”
Outside “predators”? “Ruthless”? “heartless decisions without regard to human cost”?
Lay off the tear jerking rhetoric and take a look at what they did at Bain. It many cases they took a company that was on its way to complete failure and attempted to turn it around. If they don’t step in the company just goes under and everyone is out of work. If they do step in and lay off people or close a plant or 2 to keep the company afloat then its a helluva lot better than the alternative of everyone losing their job.
Part of the problem here is when you make rather sweeping judgements such as calling these people predators or ruthless. That kind of jackassery doesn’t add to the debate.
But thanks for acknowledging the sliminess of the Obama lie regarding this man’s completely BS story.

Print media is dying with each passing day. How will Jay feels when NO venture capital group chooses to invest any money into the AJC. If they did invest and could save 60% of the jobs is that good? or ruthless capitalists putting 40% of the people out of work. The steelworkers in KC kept jobs and paychecks for nearly 6 years after Bain jumped in, they would have had less than one year without them.
How about Staples, they survived and prospered under Bain and are now the kingpin of office supply stores. Funny we never hear about that!

Your point is a fair one, but I think the signage is more telling in a national election — specifically a presidential election. People are supposed to be ‘excited’ about their candidate. At least to some degree. And I mean, good heavens…is ANYONE inspired by this guy at all?

How about Staples, they survived and prospered under Bain and are now the kingpin of office supply stores. Funny we never hear about that!
Because it’s nothing to boast about. Staples displaced almost as many jobs as were “created”.
Mitt Romney, ‘welfare queen’
Romney’s wealth is based on the private equity business model, founded on tax-payer subsidies.

Why Romney can’t defend capitalism
Rick Perry describes what Bain does as “vulture capitalism,” picking the flesh off the bones of corporate corpses, while New Gingrich’s dark charge was that Bain was no more than “rich people figuring out clever legal ways to loot a company.”

Was on a conference call and had to actually “listen” to what they had to say…….anyway, just read Jay’s article.
He speaks of SuperPac’s for Obama being “unfair to Mitt”; however the SuperPac’s for Mitt are trying to start their own little race war in order to get their candidate hired.
So, what’s worse? Yeah, I know it’s more of “He did it too!!”; but there has to be a sense of proportion to this thing. You can say that tadpole is “big” and it’s a problem. Or you can look at that 20 ft. gator and see what a “big” problem really is.
Proportion is the key.

Lost in this hubub, bub, emphasis mine…
Priorities’ ad, released Tuesday but yet to actually air in a paid commercial time slot, ties Mitt Romney to the death of a former GST Steel worker’s wife
It’s something I’ve been saying for awhile now about the Citizens United decision and I’ll say it again–what’s most insidious about shadowy superPACs wielding this kind of money and power, is not so much what they spend their money on, but what they can credibly THREATEN to spend their money on.
I guarantee that this is being played out in scores of podunk districts, where some slick representative of a Koch- or suchlike-funded outfit is telling some underpaid representative that it’d really be in his interest to play ball on this bill. Or else.

Could the appeal that Romney holds for some people be because as a businessman, he had to know how to solve problems? Maybe, just maybe, the “make a profit” aspect of a businessperson is because they (some) have experience at identifying, isolating, and correcting the problem.

“Creative destruction does enhance productivity and for an economy to thrive as our does, there are a lot of people who will suffer as a result of that.” – Mitt Romney, Emory University, April 2010.
Mitt Romney’s corporate raider tactics included buying up companies. selling off valuable assets, loading them down with debt, selling shares to gullible investors and then dumping his own shares of stock while leaving the new investors holding the bag while the shell of the company that once existed was left to wither in bankruptcy with the PBGC picking up any pension obligations that may have survived the process.

Jay: In an era of increasingly no-holds-barred capitalism, do we also slash unemployment insurance, job training, Medicaid benefits, Social Security and ObamaCare, so that individuals are even more fully exposed to the cruel caprices of free enterprise?
If you are of the belief that the stockholder is GOD then the answer is “Yes”. Companies are driven by profit — if we run the country like a business, as some republicans want, then the US’s main goal would be to make a profit.
First thing we’d need to do is liquidate holdings into cash to pay down the national debt.
We’d go after things like our National Parks first, sell them to the highest bidder; let’s say China. There are a lot of geological treasures in our National parks so China would now own the land that may have oil running through it.
In looking at China’s business acumen and the way they’ve previously destroyed their own country’s atmosphere, water and sickened their own countryment – expect pollution and sickness to go up.
Next we’d probably sell some all of oil on our coastlines to big oil companies. This would bring in immediate cash.
Next, being a business, we’d take all of our infrastructure off shore because workers offshore will work much cheaper than american workers — they’ll work for pennies a day and be happy with it.
We’d offshore our Defense Department, NASA, USMail, basically anything that the government owns / regulates to the highest bidder. We’d probably get a super power like Russia or even Saudia Arabia, who has losts of ready cash, to go for it.
Now U.S.A. INc.; is out of debt and solvent. Just like a good business should be.

Does anyone here think that it’s a bad thing if people lose jobs because of corporate restructuring, industries moving overseas, whatever the reason – that it’s a bad thing that laid-off workers still have health care coverage?
Or do people who think that’s a bad idea think it better that the laid-off workers use emergency room services so people with jobs can pay for their care?
Or do they think it’s okay to gamble that no life-threatening diseases would occur that would result in death?

Calling Romney heartless, are you Jay? Well, from my perspective YOU are heartless, in terms of the programs you advocate stripping moral fiber from the fabric of our nation and citizens.
It’s harsh on either count to call someone “heartless”. Artificially sustaining institutions and employment which is economically unsustainable on its own merits has an impact on the broad population providing the economic sustenance. Providing social welfare benefits can have a detrimental impact on social and moral fabric (and liberty), heck, even mainstream Democrats and the Clintons have acknowledged that. Corporate “raiders” (if you prefer) and social welfare programs have a place in our life. Taken to an extreme each is dangerous.
The facts underlying the ad do not indicate ANYONE was “heartless”. Implying they were (and you do) is “heartless” at face value.

Interesting I was thinking this very question this morning about the heart and soul of the USA. Many of those on the right claim the USA is a Christian country. Well, then, if this is a Christian country the heartlessness of business goes against that completely. Even the Bible which many Christians…many of the same who will vote for Romney….claim is what we should be ruled by says in 2 Cor 8:13 to 8:15 says
Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality.14 At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality,
15 as it is written: “He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little.”
It saddens that many who think we are a Christian country founded on Christian principles according to the unerrant Word of God don’t have a freakin’ clue what the Book really says.

He gutted companies, paid himself off with borrowed money to the point that the companies he bought were forced to declare bankruptcy and then stuck US with the company’s pension obligations. – Do you have a list of companies he (Romney) did this to from an UNBIASED source?
And he did this more than once. – Do you have a list of companies he (Romney) did this to from an UNBIASED source?
A genuinely horrifying man. – Were there ANY companies that Bain purchased the were on the verge of going out of business that were saved and are still operating today. Jay, if Mitt manages to get himself elected in November, you can pretty much bet that the gov’t will take NO steps to protect individual Americans — Mitt has made it clear that the “business experience” that he brings to the table is all about making profit$ for himself and his corporate buddies and nothing more than that… he’s not even campaigning based on the good policies he supported for the people of Massachusetts just 10 years ago. Why should anyone believe that he will do anything to “promote the general welfare” of the American people — the general welfare he and the Repubs believe in is for corporations only!

WASHINGTON — Newt Gingrich admitted Wednesday evening that Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign has no evidence the Obama administration dropped work requirements from the nation’s welfare law, contradicting a Romney TV ad released a day earlier.
“We have no proof today, but I would say to you under Obama’s ideology it is absolutely true that he would be comfortable sending a lot of people checks for doing nothing,” Gingrich told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. “I believe that totally.”
It’s getting pretty bad when Mitt cannot even rely on Newt to lie for him.

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Sales of new houses fell 8.4% in June after reaching a two-year high in May, suggesting that the slowdown in the U.S. economy might be making buyers more cautious.
Sales declined to an annual rate of 350,000 in June and median prices of new homes also fell to the lowest level since January, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday.

DawgDad — “What was “atrocious” about that?”
Historical record and *eyewitness* accounts disagree with most of the Swiftboaters’ claims regarding Kerry’s service and decorations. In fact, one Swiftboater who has previously defended Kerry’s Silver Star and who had previously officially rated Kerry’s performance highly, changed his mind after being approached by the Swiftboaters and began criticizing Kerry’s performance and award.
One of the physicians who treated Kerry for a wound for which he received a Purple Heart criticized Kerry’s receipt of that reward, despite multiple claims from Navy administrators that PHs received under the same circumstances as Kerry’s award were “routine.”
One of the Swiftboaters even put Kerry *in* for one of the awards the organization later criticized him for receiving.
I don’t begrudge political mudslinging, but IMO veterans shouldn’t diss other veterans’ service, and I take a very dim view of veterans who do that. They should have found something else to criticize Kerry on.

kitty: Your interpretation of the Bible (ahem) leaves quite a bit to be desired. In 2 Corinthians 8 Paul is discussing the work of the Churches and believers in spreading the Word of the Lord.
Paul’s call to “excel in this grace of giving” is an admonishment to give yourself unto the Lord and share the Word of his Grace with others, as this had comforted Paul by example. Back up and read 2 Corinthians 7.

In the book, O’Neill argued that a Swift boat commander would have been “seriously disciplined or court-martialed” for crossing the Cambodian border. Critics point out the inconsistency between this description and O’Neill’s own claims documented in a conversation with President Nixon in 1971:
“ O’Neill: I was in Cambodia, sir. I worked along the border on the water.

Thulsa, you have an extremely short memory, too:
THE OBAMA RECORD
Robert P. Watson, Ph.D.
Lynn University
I am always being asked to grade Obama’s presidency. In place of offering him a grade, I put together a list of his accomplishments thus far. I think you would agree that it is very impressive. His first six months have been even more active than FDRs or LBJs the two standards for such assessments. Yet, there is little media attention given to much of what he has done. Of late, the media is focusing almost exclusively on Obama’s critics, without holding them responsible for the uncivil, unconstructive tone of their disagreements or without holding the previous administration responsible for getting us in such a deep hole. The misinformation and venom that now passes for political reporting and civic debate is beyond description.
As such, there is a need to set the record straight. What most impresses me is the fact that Obama has accomplished so much not from a heavy-handed or top-down approach but from a style that has institutionalized efforts to reach across the aisle, encourage vigorous debate, and utilize town halls and panels of experts in the policy-making process. Beyond the accomplishments, the process is good for democracy and our democratic processes have been battered and bruised in recent years.
There is a lot of misinformation circulating on talk radio, at town hall meetings, in the blogosphere, and around office water coolers about President Barack Obama. For instance, Obama is criticized for allegedly doing nothing and for doing too much. While Obama, like all presidents, has made mistakes, his presidency has thus far been marked not just by bitter opposition but by an ambitious array of initiatives and numerous accomplishments. His is turning out to be one of the most active presidencies in history. Following is a list of initiatives that are either being pursued or have been achieved by the Obama Administration (through April 2010).
Let me know if I missed anything in the list (surely I did).

Components of the bill:
– Prevents insurance companies from denying coverage to individuals/family members with pre-existing health conditions; a temporary plan is being developed to cover high-risk individuals with pre-existing conditions until the full reforms go into effect in 2014
– Prevents insurance companies from placing lifetime limits on benefits
– Bans “rescission” so insurance companies can’t cancel coverage if individuals keep their policies current or if they become ill
– An individual’s out-of-pocket healthcare expenses are capped
– Closes the “donut hole” (Part D) for Medicare prescription drug coverage (under Bush, Medicare helped pay for drugs up to $2,600 and above $4,550, but individuals had to pay 100% of the costs in between these amounts); now Medicare helps cover costs irrespective of the amount – seniors will now pay only 25% of drug costs up to $4,550 and only 5% of drug costs above that amount
– In 2010, an emergency provision will offer seniors a $250 rebate on the costs incurred within the “donut hole”
– Individuals living at or below the poverty line were eligible for healthcare under Medicaid, but by 2014 individuals/families living slightly above (making up to $14,404/$29,327) the poverty line will also be eligible for benefits
– Individuals/families making less than $43,320/$88,200 per year will qualify for government subsidies to help purchase health insurance
– All individuals must have health insurance or face a government fine; all large (over 50 employees) employers must offer health insurance to employees or pay a fine
– Small businesses can get a tax credit if they offer health care
– There are hardship exemptions if individuals can’t afford health insurance
– Families can keep their children in college on their plans through age 26
– Promotes health insurance “exchanges” so consumers can buy “wholesale”
– Creates consumer assistance offices to help consumers file complaints or appeal decisions from insurance companies; beginning in 2011, insurance companies can no longer make excessive rate hikes without justification and approval, and those doing so may be barred from participating in new health insurance exchanges
Funding sources:
– Large employers (over 50 workers) that don’t offer health benefits will be charged a $2,000/worker fee; if the employer offers coverage but employees instead purchase federally subsidized insurance the fee is $3,000/worker receiving federal subsidies or $750/worker (whichever is lower)
– Annual fees on pharmaceutical companies ($27 billion), health insurance companies ($60 billion), and medical device-makers ($20 billion)
– Annual penalties on individuals who do not have health insurance (up to a maximum of $695/person)
– Increase in the Medicare payroll tax from 1.45% to 2.35% for individuals making $200,000+ and families making $250,000+
– 3.8% tax on unearned income for millionaires
– Insurance companies will be subject to a tax on each high-end insurance plan (so-called “Cadillac” plans) they offer
Miscellaneous:
– Illegal immigrants are not eligible for insurance or subsidies
– By Executive Order, such federal funding can’t be used for abortion
– The federal government will assist states by covering all of the increased expenses of expanding Medicaid coverage (90% of costs after 2020)

This is kinda fun watching some of the libs get their panties in a wad because Jay had to acknowledge this despicable LIE of Obama about the steelworker’s wife and cancer. No doubt. Obama and his campaign have descended into new frontiers of sliminess. Stay classy Obama. Stay classy.

they both suck,
Not sure what you’re asking for. Are all the superpacs bs. Well of course. But on the SBV I don’t have a problem with that because these are all men who came out of the woodwork that served alongside Kerry. I’ve no problem with their voices being heard. Are they all lying? 100 men or so? That is simply not plausible. Most rational people know that an entire group of men aren’t lying. Hard to coordinate that if not impossible.
And frankly I don’t have a problem with the the Obama superpacs but when they tell an outright provable LIE like on the steelworker’s wife you can be sure Doomy gonna lay his mighty hammer to that LIE. They can put up their wall of LIES as is their right. But Doomy gonna launch a conservative missile of truth and shatter that wall.
The only other issue I have is that it looks like there is coordination between that Stephanie Cutter and the superpacs. Still has to be proven of course but its mighty funny that she got caught lying about knowing that steelworker when she was in fact on a conference call with him months earlier.

You seem to split hairs when it suits you, but get all over Obama for a pac he doesn’t control.

“To be honest, it’s not Obama’s ad, it’s the Super PAC’s ad (anthough Obama has not rebuked it).”
Yeah. I know. You and they both suck got me there. I should have stated that it was Obama’s superpac and not his actual campaign although it looks to me like there might be some coordination there given the Stephanie Cutter situation. And that is against federal election law. We’ll see what happens there- maybe something. Maybe nothing.
“OTOH, Romney’s false “welfare” ad was put out by his camp.”
Not so fast as Lee Corso would say. The Washington post’s factcheck i think it was gave it 4 pinnochios. But I watched an interview with Dick Morris who worked for Clinton and Morris said the Romney ad is 100% true. He then pointed out that the Washington Post has a long history of being against Welfare reform and if its their “fact check” service I don’t think we can view them as credible. Interesting thing about these factcheck sources is that of the 3 main ones I think all 3 of them are run by 3 very liberal newspapers. How fair can they really be?
But I digress. Anyway Morris stated that he helped craft the legislation specifically so that the language regarding work cannot be changed. They went to great lengths to do that. And what Obama is doing is changing the language to include school, training, and other activities as “work”. So there is no question it has been changed.
The last point on that matter is that the politifact article just glosses over the fact that whether or not Obama can just scrap this law on his own will be decided in court. From what he understand from other readings is that he cannot simply change the law on his own and that his action was blatantly illegal. That its not even in question that its illegal and that its pretty clear cut on that issue. That remains to be seen but it does strike me as odd that a president can just arbitrarily strike down different pieces of law all by himself.
Last on that issue its pretty clear that there is disagreement on whether or not Obama abandoned the work requirement. It does seem though that there is no question he changed it or at least the language of it and of course there is the question of whether what he did was even legal. So there is room for disagreement as to whether or not its true.
On the lie regarding the steelworker and his wife’s cancer there is no room for discussion on whether or not its a lie. Its a cut and dried lie.

Nate Silver is a great numbers person and he evaluates numbers in a strictly unemotional way. That is why I believe his odds of Obama winning re-election are way off-base. There is near no further up-side for Obama. He’s a known quantity and seems to have a ceiling of 47 or 48%. Romney has had everything including the kitchen sink thrown at him, and he seems to be about even in most of the polls that don’t substantially over-sample Democrats.
There is far more of a potential upside available for Romney than there is for Obama. Additionally, I suspect some Democrats are lying to polsters about intending to vote for Obama. While Silver’s analysis of current numbers show a 70% chance of Obama winning, I tend to think that the current data and environment is consistent with Romney winning by 4 – 6 points come November.
I also base that on how the individual campaigns are behaving. It seems to me that the Obama Campaign is acting in an increasingly desperate and negative way, which is what candidates who believe they are losing tend to do. Obama Campaign is burning through money a lot faster than Romney, while Romney seems to be raising more money than Obama for future expenditures. Romney seems content to absorb the blows because they don’t seem to be hurting him that much as Obama can’t get above the 47% or 48% ceiling.
The incredible negative nature of the Obama Campaign is consistent with a campaign that thinks the election is trending to Romney. Anything can still happen, but my view is that if Romney has a good convention and holds his own in the debates with Obama, that the late breakers will overwhelmingly go to Romney, just as they did to Reagan back in 1980.
People like to say that Romney is no Reagan. But neither was Reagan the beloved Reagan back in 1980. Reagan was the Republican Carter wanted to run against in 1980 as Reagan was considered near as unelectible as Barry Goldwater back in 1964. So Reagan wasn’t particularly popular among the electorate-at-large back in 1980 up until the point when almost all the late breaking went Reagan’s way once Reagan and Carter had their debate and Reagan showed that he was acceptable alternative.
While it’s possbile Romney will come across as a stiff in the debates, it’s also possible he will clean Obama’s clock. I’ve seen Romney have great debate performances, and I’ve seen him fall flat on his face as well. It may all depend on what he has for breakfast that day.

What absolute rubbish Bookman’s 10:04 posting was this morning. You Democrats have nothing credible to say about Obama’s record or accomplishments so you all are pathetically reduced to unending character assassination of an honorable opposition candidate.
Blaming Romney for the death of a woman with cancer now? How pathetic! Hiding behind PAC attacks, but taking no responsibility for their content? We’re not buying your disassociation with Democrat donor PAC’s. You are representative of its authors.
Bain Capital created more jobs, kept more jobs, and resurrected more companies than Obama’s inept administration could ever imagine. Your union playbook tactic of poisoning the well with misinformation about that nasty old Bain Capital is your low class calling card. The electorate will remember such low character attempts in November.
You liberals had nothing to offer in your choice of candidadtes in the last election so you fooled everyone into thinking an empty suit with Hope & Change would be good for America. Look at us now. What you see is what you get. You double down and offer this same left wing loser to represent America again. Only this time, you realize that in absence of Obama accomplishments, character assassination of his challenger is the only card to play. PATHETIC and LOW CLASS.
How do you defend against an administration of incompetent appointees, a corrupt DOJ, a cabinet comprised of individuals without private sector job experience, bureaucratic left wing czars, a corrupt Labor Dept., a political base of liberal kooks, and a hypocrite president who forgets earlier pronouncements? YOU CAN’T!
Sadly, you wretched Democrats resort to the only weapon in your playbook. Character assassination and misinformation. Next time you all see Harry Reid, ask him to supply you with his proof about those 10 years of tax dodging that Mitt was able to get away with. A fool leading fools. Had it not been for the union thug intercedings in Vegas, that old crank would be out to pasture by now.

Curious — “I didn’t you you could apply for a medal. No wonder I didn’t get any.”
IIRC, the Army reg states that anyone “having knowledge of the qualifying act or acts” can submit someone for a decoration, but that all procedures must be followed (so it would be best to have your commander put you in for it, assuming you actually want to *receive* the award). I had also read that there’s some document routinely filed by Army medics and docs that should *automatically* result in the awarding of a Purple Heart (but this would only happen in an active theater of combat).

I agree, and it’s sad. I am ticked that someone couldn’t go into the White House, do things different in a “radical” way, and actually make significant change in the political process. But now that my dream of that is shattered, I know better than to break the system up all at once but to vote for people who will eventually bring the system closer to the way I want it to be.

Nate Silver is a great numbers person and he evaluates numbers in a strictly unemotional way. That is why I believe his odds of Obama winning re-election are way off-base. There is near no further up-side for Obama. He’s a known quantity and seems to have a ceiling of 47 or 48%
Upon what do you base this “ceiling?” Gallup’s nationwide approval polling, perchance?
————————————————————-
I base it on lots of things. GALLUP’s and other approval ratings. The fact that 2008 was about as unelectable year the Republicans have had in decades, combined with incredible unprecedented excitemeent for Obama. Republican turnout was depressed while Democratic turnout was inspired. Yet Obama still only won 52.87% of the popular vote. Romney may be a poor candidate, but worse than McCain? I don’t think so. So hard to see it being even remotely plausible for Obama to match his 52.87% share of 2008. Then it’s just a matter of figuring out how much of that 52.87% he’ll lose. Based on every instinct and understanding of electoral history I have, I think a 47% – 48% ceiling will be hard for Obama to break, unless Romney can be completely destroyed. And I think Obama’s campaign is being conducted as if he knows that, which is why the unprecedented smear campaign being waged by a sitting president against his opponent.

Romney may be a poor candidate, but worse than McCain?
Possibly. You say that Obama is a known entity, but Romney isn’t exactly unknown, either; he’s been running for President for about five years now. This is purely from the gut, but I think McCain had a lot of broad personal appeal, not just because he was a war hero, but because he seemed comfortable around people. Mitt isn’t quite as stiff as some make him out, but I don’t think he exudes a lot of warmth, and I don’t see that image likely to change much.

IIRC, the Purple Heart reg was changed at some point after I got out; there was a big blowup about some guys in the 82d Airborne actually getting the PH for heat-related injuries during Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989. Capitalism is by definition meant to be heartless. It is an invisible hand that guides investments to the most profitable enterprises. It has created most of the wealth in the world. The bottom line is: how much do we want to soften its edges? Healthcare is an area which can be treated in 2 ways. Eliminate govt. involvement entirely and let businesses decide whether it helps their profits to provide health insurance for their employees. In a world without unions or govt. influence on this decision, surely most businesses would choose to cast their employees adrift. But we don’t have that world. And the best way to help our businesses compete with those of other countries where the govt. pays for healthcare is to remove this as a cost item from their budgets by having a system of national healthcare. Obamacare isn’t perfect but it is a good starting point.

“My life ( IMO) if Obama wins a second term. Higher income taxes, Higher Capital gains taxes. Higher insurance premiums. High fuel cost. Higher power bills. overall, less money in my pocket.”
This has been going on at LEAST since Clinton left office, if not all of my adult life. All of the things have increased on average, each and every year, especially insurance premiums.
Why is this Obama’s fault? And what will Mittens do to stop it?
What, exactly has you so sure Mittens will stop all of these things from continuing to cost more?

They’re a beach to hunt out there. You can’t use firearms. So it’s spear, bow, knife and dogs.
http://www.honolulumagazine.com/Honolulu-Magazine/March-2012/Field-Guide-Urban-Pig-Hunting/
If you want to use firearms, you can go to the Big Island and pay beaucoup bucks to the Parker Ranch. You can even hunt for wild goat (even harder to get; think mountain goat) or feral cattle (I am not making this up).
http://hunt.parkerranch.com/hunts
The pigs like to hang out in this dense staghorn fern that grows all over the place in the hills and mountains; they make runs and warrens as if they were rabbits. The way it was explained to me, you have to send the dogs in to flush them out, then try to fix one with your spears. Then one guy gets to go in and finish the pig off with a knife. Alternately, you could try to nail them with your bow as they exit the ferns.
In short, game hunting in Hawaii is kind of rough if you’re used to just popping your prey with a rifle.

The pigs were tough enough to find and hunt, but the wild goats would be *incredibly* difficult to get. I only ever saw them a couple of times, leaping and capering about on scree-covered slopes that I’d need a rope and rock-climbing gear to even approach.
I don’t know much about the feral cattle, but I thought the guys were pulling my mainland leg. I did a little looking, and sure enough, there are wild cattle in the upcountry on Maui and the Big Island. Apparently, some were given to King Kamehameha as a gift in the late 1700s. and some of them subsequently escaped.

You should have watched more. One thing I found VERY interesting – being the dog person I am – was that they used rescued Great Danes as catch dogs. That was the Great Dane’s original job, boar hunting and their correct name translates to “German Boar Dog”
After watching them, compared to watching the pit bull types used in Florida (being catch dogs is one of their original jobs also) it was clear why the German’s wanted a taller dog. Those Danes would latch on to an ear and because of their height and leg length they could keep out of the say of those swinging tusks.

My buddy doesn’t even go hog hunting per say. It is usually when the deer hunting is slow and one happens to get close enough to kill it with a bow.

Romney is Gordon Gecko and a billionaire today. When you talk that way, somewhere along the way, you’ve been brainwashed.

Romney is Gordon Gecko and a billionaire today. When you talk that way, somewhere along the way, you’ve been brainwashed.
Michael Milken was the model used to create the character Gordon Gecko, so while gm might have missed the target, gm wasn’t too far off the mark.
It was at the height of the 1980s buyout boom when Mitt Romney went in search of $300 million to finance one of the most lucrative deals he would ever manage. The man who would help provide the money was none other than the famed junk-bond king Michael Milken.
[...]
But what distinguishes this deal from the nearly 100 others that Romney did over a 15-year period was his close work with Milken’s firm, Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc. At the time of the deal, it was widely known that Milken and his company were under federal investigation, yet Romney decided to go ahead with the deal because Drexel had a unique ability to sell high-risk, high-yield debt instruments, known as “junk bonds.”
Best to do some research before you ply the “brainwashed” card.

Romney isn’t Gecko and he doesn’t have billions. “brainwashed” is about as tame as it comes- around here anyway….

And so you are saying that even though the Manchurian Candidate has promulgated a bald-faced lie, since it has some instructional value (in your opinion), it is alright. What a crock.
Victor Davis Hanson covers this well in his latest post, “Obama in Never-Never Land”.
The “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy” take on this is that it is a sign of increasing desperation on the part of the Supreme Leader. I predict it will get crazier and crazier from Emperor Nero, as everybody starts to realize that he did not only fiddle while Rome burned, but he actually set all the fires. I would love to see his internal polling (not the propaganda the state-controlled media releases from time to time).

Wnat goes around comes around. Republicans and their right wing crazies have generally dismissed concerns regarding the Swift boating of John Kerry, Max Cleland and others, because well, it was done against Democrats. Now that a group has leveled the same kind of emotionally charged BS against THEIR guy, all of a sudden its an outrage. I for one no longer care that they might be outraged, or whether the ad contains truths, near truths or full blown lies, because I know that the second this ad is withdrawn, or disavowed by President Obama, the right wingers will yawn and dismiss, yet again, any similar attacks from the right which will inevitably appear.
Or, the shorter version: Suck on it, wingnuts.

They BOTH suck: More informed people would mean less lies, seeing as it would be less likely they would be able to get away with lying.

Lets get relevant – talk about the plant Bain is closing right now in Freeport Illinois and shipping the jobs to China. Bain gets tax a write off for relocation expenses. The workers appealed to Obama and Romney to come and meet them and do something. If Obama does go there and asks to end the outsourcing write off – now that would be news and a great ad. Why hasn;t he?????????????

Hardball politics, Obama has learned much in his time in office. I think ALL political offices should be limited a max of 8 yrs. Healthcare has been pushed forever and I’d like to see the baby. It won’t be perfect, children never are. With guidance, care, and love… it could grow into an affordable comfort for those in distress. Spoiler Alert.
I will be voting Obama.

If there is a legitimate need for hard decisions, those making them need not be predators, and ideally shouldn’t be. They can be more like givers of tough love or battlefield doctors performing triage.
