The CFA issue was never about freedom of speech or religion. It’s about them giving money to anti-gay/anti-same-sex-marriage groups. If you are a true friend of someone gay or supporter of same-sex marriage, you won’t spend another dollar at CFA.

While you were in the rapids, Jay, Mitt Romney said: “We ought to give whichever president is going to be elected at least 6 months to a year to get (his) policies in place.”
In other words according to Mitt, President Obama can only be credited for all the jobs GAINED during his administration — 4.5 million during 29 straight months of economic growth once his policies were in place – and not with all the jobs lost in the beginning that started under George W. Bush.
Thanks, Mitt, and may you also remember that President Obama has already created more jobs in the private sector during his few years in office than George and your supply-side economics did during all eight of his.
P.S. And with President Obama, we won’t have to wait up to a year for something to start happening. With a Congress that wants to help instead of obstruct, all we have to do is more of what we already know for sure works, not return to policies “on steroids” that we already know for sure WILL NOT!

Normal,
Its not about whining, its about subjectivity verses objectivity. Objectively, no creditable unbiased economist places blame for the great recession solely at the feet of George W. Bush. There was deserved blame on the part of both political parties in government and blame on many in the private financial sector. Blaming Bush policies is simply subjective rhetoric that hasn’t resonated with voters for sometime. Objectively, the Obama administrations economic record does not reflect a sufficient recovery and in fact we’re now seeing a regressing economy. Can’t hide from the reality of today by distorting the reality of yesterday.

Objectively, no one expects a business expansion to last more than about 3 years without a recession. We’re due. The politicians are playing around with financial toys to keep the party going a little longer, but we’re still going to have a typical business cycle recession (as opposed to a debt supercycle depression) at some point in the next 12 months. Bank on it.

“All the whining in the world doesn’t change the fact that the Bush policies did cause the collapse.”
The recession under W was caused by the housing meltdown. To say that the housing meltdown was the fault of one man or of only 1 of the 2 political parties is pure poppycock. The roots or beginning of the lax lending standards and govt coercion of lending to less qualified applicants goes all the way back to Bush 1.
And lets not forget. We’ve had recessions before- 7 of them I think just since WW2. This is the only one where the recovery has been so anemic. Typically the steeper the recession the stronger the recovery. Only under this president has that not been the trend. You can blame the recession of 07 and 08 on W. The anemic recovery? That’s all on Obama.

Certainly don’t disagree with the strong possibility of recession within the next 12 months but it won’t be typical because we haven’t really recovered from the last one. A typical economic cycle recession is followed by several months of strong economic growth this has not been the case during this untypical weak recovery that is once again slipping.

Agree, this is definitely not a typical economic cycle recession. This is something much worse.
I think caused by combination of global competition – our jobs going to Asia – and technology reducing the number of people required in production.

But we didn’t start with a typical economic recession, so expecting a strong economic recovery is faulty logic. However, the next recession will likely be followed by a typical recovery about 6 quarters later… unless the politicians figure out a way to screw it up.
My recommendation for the past year has been to wait until after the elections and then take away the punch bowl of unpaid-for tax cuts, let the recession happen, then we’ll be back in recovery just before the next election AND the deficit will start to come down in a hurry. But no one listens to me

How do you come to that conclusion? The overall economic climate was much more hospitable than say after the 81-82 recession where interest rates and inflation were in the double digits. Interest rates were near an all time low during this most recent recession and inflation was also in check. So upon what do you base this conclusion?

Oscar,
We’ve lost low end textile and low end mfg jobs to Asia but not much more. And that’s been going on for 30 years so its not a new phenomenon that all of a sudden hit in the last couple of years. As for technology replacing human jobs that’s been going on since the dawn of time and especially since the Industrial revolution. When the ice and milk delivery men lost their jobs due to automation did that slow down economic growth or employment? Nope. They just had to retrain and find new jobs in the new economic climate.

You are incorrect. Banks stopped lending during the 2008-2009 free-fall. That didn’t happen in 1981-82. When banks stop lending, the economy goes into a full-stop and then into reverse with the peddle on the gas. 81-82 was actually more like a typical recession, since the whole economy went from inflation to recession but the banks were functioning just fine, so when businesses needed money, money was available to them.
