The first time I saw the great Elvin Bishop, we were both younger men. It was back in the early ’70s, in Raleigh, N.C., right about the time he put out his excellent and underrated album “Let It Flow.” Looking through the song list from that album — “Travelin’ Shoes,” “Stealin’ Watermelons” — is like going back in time.
That album also included Elvin’s classic celebration of fishing, the aptly titled “Fishin’.” It’s a critically important theme, so important that Mr. Bishop felt obligated to revisit it at more length in a later song, the equally aptly titled “Gone Fishin’ Again,” as in “me and my no-good friends are gone fishin’ again.”
Which of course we are. See ya’ll back here in a couple of weeks. Be good, be cool and be wishin’ you were with us, ‘cuz we plan on having us a damn good time.

I’ve been watching Syria, too. They are now refugeeing in the tens of thousands. Lebanon and Jordan are still allowing them in, but we’re looking at millions who will need a place to go and we are very ill prepared to deal with that. It’s reaching the nasty stage.

Well, I still use BP gasoline. The employees and managers are alll local. I didn’t stop because if I did it would not have hurt those responsible for the oil spill. Just innocent people.
I feel the same about Chick. Local store is owned by a local man. He has dozens of employees. Only person hurt would be the local workers and store owner.

Earlier this week, Dave Mullins and Charlie Craig headed to Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colorado to order their wedding cake. The couple — who will take their official vows in Massachusetts — wanted a Masterpiece cake for a celebration with family and friends in October. But after listening to their request for a rainbow-layered cake, bakery owner Jack Phillips turned away their business. Apparently, Masterpiece Cakeshop doesn’t make cakes for gay weddings, but avoided answering questions about the discrimination accusations: “We don’t want to talk about that, so you’ll just have to make something up.” The cakeshop once boasted stellar reviews on Yelp, but Phillips’ discrimination has had consequences now that the story has spread: the restaurant’s average currently stands at a measly 1.5 stars.

Accaording to the tenets of your faith divorce and remarriage is a violation of the solemn promise made before G-d “til death do us part and forsaking all others.” It’s an open admission, publicly flaunted that you do not take oaths to the Alm-ghtly seriously. You are correct and it’s yours too in Malachi “God hates divorce”.
That said, the Bible condemns the “act” of divorce (with exceptions such as adultery) and the “act” of homosexuality. I know we disagree on that but so be it.
Remember, most men have the “desire” to sleep with women other than their wives. It’s something they fight constantly. To “act out” on those desires I believe is even worse.

Just an observation, for what it’s worth.
Every faith, secular or religious, that’s been around for any length of time is marked by an evolutionary nature, keeping abreast of the times. There have always been those amongst them who are opposed to the nature and reject any “change.” Others are proponents of such changes. Most, though, are somewhere in between, picking and choosing to suit their own ends and the conflict between the two “extremes.”

He had promised to protect him. The picture we have of them has him with his protectively on the Rose boy’s shoulder. According to all who knew them, he never got over the Rose boy’s death. SAN DIEGO — Some of the loudest cheers Saturday at San Diego’s gay pride parade were for active-duty troops marching in military dress, the first time that U.S. service members participated in such an event while in full uniform.
Dozens of soldiers, sailors, and Marines marched alongside an old Army truck decorated with a “Freedom to Serve” banner and a rainbow flag. They were joined by dozens more military personnel in civilian clothes, but the uniforms stood out among the flower-bedecked floats and scantily clad revelers.
I have no dog in that fight.

I think we disagree on the word “flaunting”. Making a heartrending decision to get divorced (as most people do) and then getting remarried is not “flaunting” per se. Leading an organization promoting divorce would be, sponsoring a “Divorce Pride Parade”, etc., etc. would be.
Now that said ……………….
If I had no other choices and the outwardly homosexual candidate supported all or most other conservative views, then they would get my vote. For example, radio talk show host Tammy Bruce is someone (a lesbian) who might be in that category although we differ on some other points (i.e., pro-choice).

I think what he meant was the “condition” of the uniforms. From my experience, we wore our combat fatigues until they litterally rotted off of us from dampness and filth. I enjoyed Paella once upon a time in Barcelona Spain and it was delicious. Same at a place in San Francisco and once again in Sarasota Florida. I have never been able to duplicate the taste either home made or from any other restaurants. Tried again today from a local place that advertised it as new on the menu but it was only semi passable. Anyone know of a restaurant or a recipe?

I saw Steven Raichlen cook a paella where everything was grilled and then added to the pan that was also on the grill. He claimed that grilling was the origin of the dish.
Of course his PBS shows have always been about grilling, so it might be the case of a man with a hammer seeing only nails.

Kam,
Thanks I’m going to Google him on that method. I don’t recall what I experienced in Spain many years ago was grilled but it really sounds interesting.

Does anyone on here agree with me that the 24 hr. coverage of the Colorado shooting incident only encourages the “copycat syndrome” among some out there with the same deranged minds?

It does. And it puts FAR more people on the alert to watch for such behavior too. You can’t warn potential victims without also warning potential perpetrators.
